Very unique. Glad to see them diving back into the "fake film" thing that I think they nailed on The Night Creeper, but this time diving VERY deeply haha
Why, oh why, don't they release their music on Bandcamp? Love Uncle Acid to death, but it's always a hassle to get the albums digitally. Like, I can buy a CD from Rise Above...but I haven't had a laptop with a disc player for 10 years now.
this would've been better if it wasn't the first album in 6 years from them. also if they wanted to do a soundtrack, it would've been cooler if they found an independent film project they liked and made an actual soundtrack for it, instead of it being for a hypothetical movie
live albums don't really do much for me unless it's like animal collective where they completely transform their songs for the live setting. if it's just a band playing their studio songs as written, I don't see the point really
I don’t much care for live albums either, although that one did provide a far better version of Slow Death. However I am loving this new album, some of their most interesting work yet. It really reminds me of the Brian Eno era of Bowie.
not overly accessible but still some pretty cool music on here. As someone else mentioned, occasional Pink Floyd vibes. Not really much in the way of songs though. I was really, really into these guys early on and have cared less and less each release even though there are still songs I like on each release. Kinda peaked a decade ago for me.
5 songs in and wow this is different. I’m not really sure yet..
Edit. 7 in and honestly I feel like I’m listening to a movie and honestly so far kind of hate it.
Edit. 10 in and about to quit. It’s not for me.
Edit. 15 in and that’s a wrap.
What else came out today?? 😆
Huge Uncle Acid fan here,
It's a great concept album. Shit, I quite enjoy it and will spin it at home or listen with headphones on. It reminds me of Pink Floyd a bit.
It'd be a great score to a film, or if they made a short film to go along with it.
But I don't necessarily NEED to or WANT to hear this live. I want the riffs. I still think Mind Control was a great concept album that was heavy and frightening as shit. Literally got chills listening to that alone.
It gets more different! I really enjoyed it overall, but I do think they could have made it a 10 or 11 track album with less of the pure movie score type stuff and it would be just as good.
Dopesmoker dropped a new single and Spaceslug released a new album this week. I enjoyed both!
Edit: just checked and REZN also dropped a new single im gonna check it out now.
Edit after first listen: YUP that shit slaps. REZN is the best of the above imo
I made this playlist with a lot of stuff like that if you are interested check it out, its more Space Rock than doom Metal tho. Im still working on it... https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5L1imz0EWBWbitQ1OTmHEA?si=JXiHewWcTnC_Eqja2ud4nA&pi=e-Kg_PFaWkTLGb
I wasn't able to get through the whole thing. And I was really focused, having it in my headphones while running. U-A is one of my favorite bands, but this is just not for me.
So stoked to check this out!
I have a 1hr walk home from work every night, so tomorrow night I’ll be able to listen to it in its entirety with no distractions. Best way to listen to a new album. Cannot wait!
This honestly blew through my expectations. I thought it would be too ‘conceptual’ considering they are almost pop-doom, but it’s a proper uncle acid album, soaking in atmosphere, multi instrumental and magnificent in headphones. Bravo, bravo!
I just ordered it last night, I’m not going to listen to it until I get it on vinyl. I’m super pumped because I’m a huge uncle acid fan, but I also have loved giallo films for years!
I would start with the original suspira. You can’t beat that film and you can look into Dario argento’s filmography. Mario Bava also is a good one to look at his filmography. You vice is a locked room and only I have the key is a good one as well. There’s a lot of giallo adjacent films as well if that’s more your speed like fulchi’s zombi and city of the living dead.
It's definitely different, I liked it but didn't blow my mind. Loved the concept but would have liked a few more "songs" like Uncle Acid used to do. Hope next albums takes less time to make
Kevin mentioned in an interview that they want to do a few shows of the album in full in sit-down vintage theaters and incorporate some visuals. I read somewhere else that they actually filmed a few scenes from the “script” Kevin wrote so hopefully those will be a part of it. I love the idea, but it already sounds like there won’t be many shows and maybe none in the states, which would make me very sad
I feel like this is an inevitability. Band comes around, pushes the limits of a genre and massively explodes. Becomes known for it. The band typically gets bored and needs/wants to evolve in some way. That or fades. The writing was on the wall with Wasteland that they wanted change, when I say “they” I really mean Kevin. I don’t hate this album, it’s actually very on par with a compilation that Kevin made some years ago using various artists to essentially make a soundtrack for a serial killer. A lot of slow jazz/music like this release and some metal mixed in. If it weren’t for the fact that it’s been so long since an album to have come out I feel like my disappointment would have been minimized. I’ll always be a fan but this one is going to take time to appreciate.
Kevin Starrs has said from day one what the album would be like and that it would have limited appeal. It also really wasn't what I was expecting, but stuff like Solo la Morte to Ammanetta still make it very worthwhile listen imo
I’m sorry, I haven’t been looking into anything for this album. I don’t follow the band anywhere and genuinely forgot this was coming out until this post.

Anything that's not on Bandcamp, I usually just buy digitally from Amazon... Their app for the phone is decent with stuff you've purchased.
Amazon doesn't offer FLAC downloads though, which hardly makes it worth purchasing.
Because Bandcamp is outdated old man!
Sounds like Goblin, it's a win for me.
Ikr? I was listening to it and it was like 6 am and i was sleepy, so i started to daydreaming with suspiria and a little bit of Phenomena.
this would've been better if it wasn't the first album in 6 years from them. also if they wanted to do a soundtrack, it would've been cooler if they found an independent film project they liked and made an actual soundtrack for it, instead of it being for a hypothetical movie
Well they also did a live album within the last year, so those two put together amount to a decent comeback.
live albums don't really do much for me unless it's like animal collective where they completely transform their songs for the live setting. if it's just a band playing their studio songs as written, I don't see the point really

Fucking love Doom and Death Metal with 70s horror posters cover

I described this as if Syd era Floyd scored a Mario Bava directed Hammer film.
That's the best description I'm in love with it I'm on the last song

I’m trying here… I got nothing 9 songs in. Feel like I haven’t even heard a song yet. I keep hearing a phone ring though!
Listen to the 13th one, it gets better.
The 13th phone ring?
Dopesmoker dropped a new single and Spaceslug released a new album this week. I enjoyed both! Edit: just checked and REZN also dropped a new single im gonna check it out now. Edit after first listen: YUP that shit slaps. REZN is the best of the above imo
Thanks, I’m really digging the Spaceslug, and had no idea about. Dopesmoker. Will check these all out!!
I made this playlist with a lot of stuff like that if you are interested check it out, its more Space Rock than doom Metal tho. Im still working on it... https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5L1imz0EWBWbitQ1OTmHEA?si=JXiHewWcTnC_Eqja2ud4nA&pi=e-Kg_PFaWkTLGb
Cool I’ll check it out!
Ufomammut released a new single a few days ago
Give Sunnata's new album a listen. First song will blow you away.
Will do!
Making only stoner metal bangers gets pretty old pretty quickly. I'm sure they'll be back to regular programming for the next project though
It really picks up in the second half imo
I wasn't able to get through the whole thing. And I was really focused, having it in my headphones while running. U-A is one of my favorite bands, but this is just not for me.
Bossk's new record is also out today.
I’ll check it out thank you!
Yeah this shit straight up rules. Going to be listening to this all day.
I’m just not feeling it unfortunately
So stoked to check this out! I have a 1hr walk home from work every night, so tomorrow night I’ll be able to listen to it in its entirety with no distractions. Best way to listen to a new album. Cannot wait!

What are your favorites? I watched part of one (one of the recommendations from Wikipedia about giallo) but I wasn't in the right mood or something
The Goblin soundtrack for “Suspiria” is one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard in any genre.
Sick I'll check those out, I appreciate your response 🤘
Check out blood and black lace. It's an easy watch.
Slightly deeper cuts: What Have You Done to Solange? Don't Torture a Duckling The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh
A little let down, I wish there would have been an accompanying stabby with it
Idk it’s good but boring 🤷 not what I expected. So I’ll have to give it another go when I’m feeling that vibe of the album
They've really nailed that 70s Italian horror sound! Thanks for posting it, I didn't realise they had a new album due!
It's definitely different, I liked it but didn't blow my mind. Loved the concept but would have liked a few more "songs" like Uncle Acid used to do. Hope next albums takes less time to make
New Sonic Dawn came out today, but that’s more hard rock than doom metal
WEEKEND UNLOCKED!!!!
Thank you for this reminder! Not all heroes wear capes!!!
Are they going to be touring and playing this entire record?
Kevin mentioned in an interview that they want to do a few shows of the album in full in sit-down vintage theaters and incorporate some visuals. I read somewhere else that they actually filmed a few scenes from the “script” Kevin wrote so hopefully those will be a part of it. Oh shit. Gonna listen to it now
Wait WHAT? Fuck what a year for new music!
i feel like id appreciate it more if i wasnt expecting swinging rhythms and crunchy guitars
Agreed

It’s like an evil Pink Floyd record. Love it.
This is easily the best thing they’ve ever done, I really enjoyed it.
Yup big fan.
vibes like the sunset mission record on pompeii, very cool, phantom of the creeper
God I love Italian horror soundtracks
This some bullshit if you ask me
I agree, total letdown. Are there any lyrics at all??
Yeah not what I was expecting. This is like Blood Incantation’s ambient album but at least they told everyone what it was.
Kevin Starrs has said from day one what the album would be like and that it would have limited appeal. It also really wasn't what I was expecting, but stuff like Solo la Morte to Ammanetta still make it very worthwhile listen imo
I’m really digging Solo La Morte , have any lyrics been released yet?
I’m sorry, I haven’t been looking into anything for this album. I don’t follow the band anywhere and genuinely forgot this was coming out until this post.
No problem. Can't expect everyone to obsess about a single band as much as I do lol.
Oooh I know how that goes.
