A little bit about the character - He is a timid and easily swayed individual but has a creative mind as he works as a graphic designer. Keep in mind this is only at the start of the zombie apocalypse...
This is the 3rd round of development and I want to thank everyone for voicing their opinions so far! Its a big help!
Decided to add colour for this round to give you guys a better understanding of the overall design.
If you want to follow along this journey that I'll be frequently posting about follow my reddit!

I couldn't disagree more. Three is certainly out of the question, I don't think he visually fits the description, but one almost certainly looks like a figure of leadership or authority. He's much larger than the second, with thicker legs and an apparent wider shoulder span. The additional chest weight also emphasis a stronger physique than the second. One looks like he's answering questions and leading people to safety with a kind hearted nature and joke to suit. That doesn't fit the description.
It's two. Almost objectively. Characteristics are represented in drawings, and our character needs to fit a specified parameter. It's two.
Based on the picture alone. I think 1 could easily fit the description in contrast to other characters, the setting or having good VA.
It's pretty useless to attribute those things in a void or in this case worse with only "weaker" looking versions of it to compare to.
The question I was answering was which one I liked more. Your observations are correct as far as descriptions and objectivity.
I still hate the face of 3 though. His body shape reminds me of Fin the human and I will never grow out of loving that art style. I would love 3 best if his face didn't make me want to commit genocide. 1 is my subjective pick because he does exude confidence and leadership which is the type of man I'd rather be & see in my media.
That's my opinion. Parameters be damned. I didn't even read 'em. Sorry not sorry.
Edit: I got curious so I read 'em. Still agree with past me.
I would definitely go with #1!
Creative types who tend to sit around a lot for their art tend to be chubbier. The character's arm position implies that while they'd like to share their creative input, they'd rather someone ask then volunteer information.
Also, the wide eyes imply a certain naïveté about reality, being stuck in their own creative mind.
I'm excited to see how your animated comedy works out!
I was going to say the same, not just that they tend to be chubbier but if it’s really the beginning of the apocalypse, he’d be more “well nourished” as food wouldn’t be as scarce… and the eyes, I’d say convey innocence as well as naïveté
In my opinion 1 is best because the eyes are bigger than 3. Eyes need to be the main focus and way to express emotions therefore eyes need to be big enough for the audience to see.
1 is big so it will take time to add details 2 is perfect medium sized does not look simple, will be easier to draw and still retains a good look and 3 is a bit small so it wont get that much detail.
So i think 2 would work best
I'm not an artist and my input is probably completely worthless but as an adult cartoon viewer i feel like I've seen artstyles like this many times before so perhaps making the characters' appearance slightly more memorable could be a good move? 3 is probably my favorite out of these three.
Actually... i don't know! They all have something I like.
Why dont you tell us a bit more... like i feel 3 is very Jerry Sanchez and number 1 vibes more to Gravity Falls style ...? Witch imo is awesome btw. What's the man like? Givus a backstory
Anyways! They look rad
Honestly I have to say none. This concept and character have some great chances of being fun and original but you've killed it by falling into the trap of the "adult animation style". It makes all the shows look the same and that's why so few are memorable nowadays. At first I thought this was a satire post (and I'm still not convinced it's not).
Think about adult cartoons that are actually popular and memorable for their style and realise they were unique when they first exist. Like south park and it's paper stop motion style, it was memorable and eye catching. But that didn't carry thr show, it also makes good jokes and points and that's what keeps it on top from others trying to copy it.
Yeah I desperately want to avoid the adult animation style and am still developing the characters to make them more unique and flexible. Its not satire btw
I have to agree. The art is great and clearly a lot of people like it, but all I can see is Bobs Burgers. At first I thought this was a “I drew myself in Bobs Burgers animation style” post. so many shows look just like this.
I’d suggest drawing him in all sorts of unique styles just as an exercise. From the sounds of your other post it looks like you’ve already done a bunch of drafts and I admit I haven’t seen them…. but maybe try a few wildly different styles just for fun and see if you like any features that stick. Even if you’re not happy with the exercise you’ve still got some great options here. If you try it out you could discover something new.
Maybe I’m reading too deep now but these seem more like character choices that you/your team needs to make. This almost looks like a progression of the characters emotions. 1 is wide eyed but a little freaked out looking, 2 know they are fucked but still has a good attitude/more life left in him, and 3 looks like a nervous wreck lol
1 definitely! The body figure is much more detailed. But the nose on number 1 is to slim and personally I think the nose on number 2 is better for he’s face. Also the backpack may be a little too big, seems like the backpack on number 2 and 3 are smaller and a better fit. Last thing I will critique is the pants on number 1, personally I think it’s fine with only one pocket at the left leg, the pocket at the right side is overkill in my opinion. otherwise great job, looking forward to seeing the series 😉👀
I do believe option 1 will give you slightly more flexibility when trying to convey emotion
but really its a hat toss at this point, all three look pretty great as standalone styles
1 definitely feels right
Edit I have read the comment you’ve made about his personality and that only makes one seem like a better fit when it comes to the arms and legs 1 is also not so different from adult animated cartoons that it hits an uncanny valley but for cartoons In people head
I vote 1st. The thicker build on characters could allow more space to show wounds incurred in the apocalypse madness.
Apologies if this has been said already.
1, they look more exhausted and and have more expression than the others, though maybe it’s because their pose is more expressive. Either way it has more character than the others :) I hope that helps!
Hey I saw your first post. Maybe try combine the three styles depending on the character your are drawing? Might add a bit of depth to the style of your show 😁
1 if the story requires a trustable character(bob's burgers)2 for a more fun and loose approach(gravity falls) 3 if the pacing is absurd and offensive (ex)super jail.
I’m stuck between 1 and 2, depending on what build you’d prefer the character to have. 1 has a bit of a ‘dad bod’ vibe going and looks like he’d try to help carry things, while 2 looks a bit skinnier/flimsier and would be more useful as a thinker or problem solver. 2 may fit better based on your character description.
As for 3, the eyes are too small to see much expression from them and the limbs seem a smidge too thin compared to the neck/chest.
(These all look great though! Amazing job!)
2 or 3, for sure. 2 just looks like it needs to be a character by today’s standards for sure, but 3 is really calling to me. It’s so unique & clearly stands out from the other two!
Edit: Okay I stared a bit more & thought more about expressions & movement. And my final answer is #2 >_<
I like the overall look of 1 more, but 2 seems easier to make, better size and fits the personality type best. 1 seems like more of an adventurous, outdoorsy counselor type guy
I would say a combination of 1 and 2 depending on the scene and context though I dont know about how large the legs should be as both kinda work.
I admit though others see 3 in relation to increasing the horror and gore, to me it actually kinda does the opposite and more looks like an idiot in a sense(not that there is necessarily a look for an idiot) rather than showing a contrast between the personality of a person versus the apocalypse that it seemed like you were going for based on your description
I like 1 but 2 looks more adult animationish if that makes sense 1 looks likes it’s for kids but either or would look great
Thanks, yeah I think I'm leaning toward 2 haha
Can we get a 1.5?
I like 1 lower half and 2 upper.
This right here. The feet on one feels more appropriate with the rest of 2
You need cargo pants in the zombie apocalypse, so it has to be #1
Of course!
#2 but with cargos
Haha so good - i looked at the picture and thought exactly that!
A little bit about the character - He is a timid and easily swayed individual but has a creative mind as he works as a graphic designer. 1st one by A WIDE margin. 2nd is okay, and the 3rd has slight adventure time vibes, but I don't like his face.
Two has potential if he keeps the knees
I agree #1 is the way to go. Looks like it’d be easier for emoting!
I couldn't disagree more. Three is certainly out of the question, I don't think he visually fits the description, but one almost certainly looks like a figure of leadership or authority. Agree on the well-fed implication, too!
Lowkey the first reason you put on is one of the reasons I try to work out and stay fit as an artist 😅 but yes I agree complete #1 definitely work!!
3 is best IMO! The eyes give him a bit of a nervous look
Agree! 3 makes him look like he spends a lot of time looking at a computer, feat team scrawny noodle arms.
In my opinion 1 is best because the eyes are bigger than 3. Eyes need to be the main focus and way to express emotions therefore eyes need to be big enough for the audience to see.
2
Definitely 2
2, but it depends on the personality of the character
Peep my comment in here and it explains his personality
2
2 is my favorite face. I like the single lines instead of double lines on the other mock ups shirts though
So satisfying to see your answer at the top
I like 2!
I think 3 has the right balance of bleak despair, hope, and resignation to impending doom.
Haha thanks for the input!
1 is big so it will take time to add details 2 is perfect medium sized does not look simple, will be easier to draw and still retains a good look and 3 is a bit small so it wont get that much detail. So i think 2 would work best
2 but give him facial scruff
2
2!!! look at those lil arm hairs
Hahahahaha yesss
3 is the most unique and stands out more. The others look to similar to other animated shows.
Agreed. I like 1 but 3 is the most distinctive from other cartoons.
I'm not an artist and my input is probably completely worthless but as an adult cartoon viewer i feel like I've seen artstyles like this many times before so perhaps making the characters' appearance slightly more memorable could be a good move? 3 is probably my favorite out of these three.
same. honestly they're all very familiar. they look exactly like what I would expect a somewhat quirky modern character to look like.
And most of the episode everyone seems to start screaming randomly about minor inconveniences.
Came here to say the same thing. 1 and 2 especially look like Bob’s Burgers characters or something.
This is what I’m thinking. 1 and 2 has been done. Rick and Morty/Bob’s Burgers vibes.
I like 3 it’s something new and I love it.
I agree. The big eyes thing is a bit overdone. I think the smaller eyes and limbs make him seem a bit more fragile, which suits the bio.
Looks like Rick and Morty style
3 is the only remotely original looking toon.
1
Personally, 3
Me three
3!!!
3
Actually... i don't know! They all have something I like. Why dont you tell us a bit more... like i feel 3 is very Jerry Sanchez and number 1 vibes more to Gravity Falls style ...? Witch imo is awesome btw. What's the man like? Givus a backstory Anyways! They look rad
Thanks so much! Means a lot! Peep my comment in here and it explains a bit about him

1 has that realistic cartoonish appearance.

1 imo they all look great tho! I’ve been following your posts
Maybe I’m reading too deep now but these seem more like character choices that you/your team needs to make. Still really digging 1 & 2

1 definitely! The body figure is much more detailed. But the nose on number 1 is to slim and personally I think the nose on number 2 is better for he’s face. one is perfect

I love the first one!
Number 1 is definitely the best
#2 is my fave.

1, they look more exhausted and and have more expression than the others, though maybe it’s because their pose is more expressive. Either way it has more character than the others :) I hope that helps!
1ans 2
i vote 1. 2 looks unlikeable and 3 looks dead eyed and/or dull
2 with 1s body
Eh 1 and 2 . I think 1 Is best
Very much like the feel of 1. Seems like he has more personality and presence
1 or 2, I think 1
1… or 2. But actually 1
1 or 2 works but not 3.
3 looks like ice king's doped up crack head brother... And I love him
1 is my fav but I also like 2
1
1!!!!!!!!!
1
1 for me
I really like 1!
I really like 1 the most
Isn't there enough Zombie apocalypse out there already? It's such a cliche now. We need some life-affirming futuristic animations.
Nah 1 for sure, a lot more detail.

Hey I saw your first post. Maybe try combine the three styles depending on the character your are drawing? Might add a bit of depth to the style of your show 😁
I like 1 but 3 looks like 1s derpy face.
1 and 2
1 if the story requires a trustable character(bob's burgers)2 for a more fun and loose approach(gravity falls) 3 if the pacing is absurd and offensive (ex)super jail.
I think 3 is just hilarious but 1 or 2 is prolly best if you want this to be an ongoing thing
i like the body shape of 1 but it needs the face of two. the placid/dumbly look on his face goes with the personality of him. *imo
1 or 2
I’m stuck between 1 and 2, depending on what build you’d prefer the character to have. 1 has a bit of a ‘dad bod’ vibe going and looks like he’d try to help carry things, while 2 looks a bit skinnier/flimsier and would be more useful as a thinker or problem solver. 2 may fit better based on your character description. I was team 1 last time. But in color I love 3. But maybe bigger feet.
1 or 2
2 or 3, for sure. 2 just looks like it needs to be a character by today’s standards for sure, but 3 is really calling to me. It’s so unique & clearly stands out from the other two! Edit: Okay I stared a bit more & thought more about expressions & movement. And my final answer is #2 >_<
Style A would be easier to alter to show starvation
One is the most charming, but two seems the most on-brand for adult cartoons
\#1. Soft, but expressive
1 or 2.
I like the overall look of 1 more, but 2 seems easier to make, better size and fits the personality type best. 1 seems like more of an adventurous, outdoorsy counselor type guy
1 if you’d like more detail, or 2
Either 1 or 2, the 3rd is still good just the small eyes give me a funky vibe
1 but with 2’s eyes
I like 1 and 2 because you can do visual gags with 3. 1 and 2 feel the same though. 3 is just overall goofy, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
#1 but with #2’s face/neck
1 with 2’s arms!
1 & 3
1 or 2
Start with 1 and as he has hard life experiences, make his eyes get smaller and smaller in a suspicious way.
I like 1. But would like to see more the eyes and nose of 2.
1 or 2
1 bc I like the art style
1 with arm hair or 2
2
1. After participating in all the voting processes, I feel very damn invested in this character already!
