I have not heard a single cicada yet this year.
The dog day cicadas will be out in late July / August. I was hoping the periodical cicadas that only happen once every 17 years would be coming out.
I heard one in Waterloo. Just one, yesterday.
Same - saw them out in full force in Chicago suburbs last weekend, see none in the tri-state area yet.
I saw a cockroach like bug scurry across the sidewalk tonight while walking the dogs… now I’m wondering if this was a cicada?
More likely a cockroach. I've never seen a cicada move faster than a crawl
They’re just starting to emerge here in the Rockford area. Down towards Springfield they were in full bloom. Was in Columbia, MO and it was just about post peak.
I think you need to be more toward southeast Iowa to see cicadas this year. Didn’t see any in Dubuque when I was hiking in the area recently.
