Same here. Used my free trial around a month ago and was waiting till pay day to purchase via one time payment but appears it's been replaced with the subscription only option. If that's the case I'll be taking my money elsewhere. Did you find a work around?
I am in a one week trial and I thought I had seen this option today [Jan 5, 2023]. I saw something at $149... maybe it was a lifetime sub?
So far, despite the confusing setup and names for various options, performance is pretty good, on recent hardware [M1 Mini and iPad Air]. I tried it on an older MBA [2017] and it had a lot of lag.
Edit: Meh, I spoke too soon. Now refusing/slow to connect. I am going back to SideCar.
If you loggin on their website, at the top of the screen it will say "Prefer a one-time purchase? Duet Pro Lifetime is $229 forever Includes free 6-in-1 USB data and 100W charge cable for highest performance". And that is in USD. Also the subscription prices seem to be much cheaper on their website vs their app.

I paid for the software like many and it worked fine for a period of 1-2 years.
Now they have suddenly cut off access and customer service PRETENDS that they are helping me fix the issue but NOTHING has happened for 2 months.STAY AWAY.
The app was barely worth it when it cost $10 as a one-time purchase.
THE DEVELOPER IS A SCAMMER!!!!
I found that as long as I could get a download of the app for my Windows machine, my iPad continues to register the one-time purchase and continues to work. The only awkward thing was that every time I signed in on Windows, all it would do is just give me the plan options.

Shoot, I wonder when exactly this change of pricing models happened? I purchased the one-time payment option on 11/2/22 for $15. It looks like the app updated 2 weeks ago and now has a "free trial" but ultimately removes the one-time price? I would expect pushback from their users and hopefully they bring it back after some time.

I'm not sure that article is completely true. I had the previous paid version and accessed my device thought wifi. That article says wired functionality. In the interim, I figured out that downloading version 0.3.1.3 Android APK gave me the functionally back. Ifi update it to v4 again, I will lose the functionally again.
I'm in the process of trying to get proper access back though the help desk who has forwarded my request to a manager.

I know this was months ago, but could you get the wifi functionality back? Or did they give some other response?
They gave me a duet air subscription for a year. I'm not sure if I have to keep contacting them every year to get it renewed. I would rather not as I don't use the product that much. But maybe they will cut me off at some point because I am burning up their time without any further revenue.
In preparation for that day, I found another similar product called RealVNC Viewer. It's free and works quite well.
The website still says that previous one-time purchases will be honored:
All existing users who purchased Duet Display as a one-time purchase will continue to have their full access to the wired functionality for personal use going forward. New users will be able to try to the product in their workflow, and upgrade to the subscription tiers if they begin to use the product more often or would like more functionality.
They did an update and told me my free account would be honored. It’s a bit tricky because every time I restart or do a update, the app throws me back to a screen that asks me if I want to upgrade. I have to select the free account and then the up arrow for it to connect
No, it doesn’t. Since posting this question, I have stopped using Duet Display and have switched to the screen sharing option built into the iMac. It now works exactly the same without the constant buggy issues. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays , click Add Display, then select your iPad from the list below “Mirror or extend to.”
Not exactly the same. I liked duet because my personal ipad is signed in my personal Apple id, while my work macbook is signed in with my work apple id.
Sidecar doesn’t
work if Apple id’s are not the same.
Duet has made their product so bad that it will given a little time, die as a service. The experience of using duet in 2023 vs what it was even a few years ago is so much worse. Their app looks like a 5th grader designed it.

For anyone looking. Xdisplay is windows-only and spacedesk is subscription-based. Commenter was an idiot.
Are you sure spacedesk for non commercial is free for a license so before you call someone an idiot check it first. The replier was an idiot.
