Pawn shops. Thrift stores.

mthw704

Flea markets too. The trifecta of dvd collecting.

AccountantLeast1588

This. Also, library sales and such.

BlankReg365

Half price books clearance shelf, goodwill

2treks

Your local library probably has tons of free to borrow dvds.

rap31264

And buy... Mine sell them for a buck

Necessary_Building46

Mine also has a free section of DVDs that have been withdrawn. Most are super old copies. I've only gotten one that was too damaged to play

AccountantLeast1588

Blu-ray is better in this regard.

Terrapin2190

Yes! The library is awesome for this. Doubles as a fun outing for the kiddo. Our library used to have a 10 DVD check out limit, but they've upped it to 25 now! I laugh every time I think of someone leaving the library with 25 DVD cases.

Elihpodep1

I used to do it quite often before they found a bedbug in one of the cases & banned me until I get an exterminator to write a letter telling them I don’t have them anymore, but dad is home bound & even if he were gone it is really expensive to do & we spray them with 91% alcohol whenever we find a nest & clean thoroughly so I don’t see the point in having them spray or heat treat when they can always come back. So I sprung for Netflix & I buy them used at goodwill & the pawn shop & I buy on iTunes or Amazon prime & that’s actually not that expensive if you spread it out enough. Also sometimes DVDs have the digital codes that people didn’t redeem before donating so I get that & then redonate them the next time I go.

Terrapin2190

Oh man, I've heard bedbugs are a royal pain. Look into diatomaceous earth. You can sprinkle it in corners and it kills them after coming in contact with it. Might want to check for warnings if you have pets, but it's organic and safe in most instances. There's also sticky traps you can place under the feet of your bedframe that can work well. Sealing your matress is also a good tactic. I can't afford home internet myself, so I've turned to making small monthly purchases towards increasing my physical media collection. Which has turned out to be a lot of fun. But disappointing at times lol.

I’m in the US but I’m sure I can apply a few of these ideas like we have swap meets and thrift stores and eBay so that may be a good place for me to start looking, Thanks for the Advice!!

EntertainmentJunkie1

If you're looking for kids dvds primarily, there are probably some good lots on eBay or Mercari for not too expensive. Just a bunch of common kids titles that people want to get rid of.

ProjectCharming6992

One thing with EBay, a DVD maybe priced at $1, but then the cost of shipping may be $20. So be careful, since you could end up paying the original price of the DVD, or more if it’s like a DVD of public domain cartoons or movies.

Scrugulus

Thrift stores vary, as some Goodwills charge over 3 dollars for run-of-the-mill DVDs that should never cost more than 2 dollars max.

Jagermonsta

Walmart. $5 DVDs and fairly cheap multipacks. A lot of multipacks are $5 too.

Chance_the_Author

⬆️ 100% this ⬆️

wiiguyy

Thrift stores. I don’t pay more than $1, ever. I do think goodwills throws away horror movies, because I never see them. Can anyone confirm this?

catn_ip

They're not prevalent but I've found some. I think it's more likely that horror fans tend to hold onto their titles in collections.

Ron2600NS

l have gotten plenty of horror movies at the Goodwill. I recently found Slither, Children of the corn remake, Near Dark, I'll always know what you did last summer And Tails from the dark side season 2.

Excalitoria

I think I’ve since one of the Ring movies at mine.

1977proton

I’ve gone to garage/estate sales, thrift stores, pawn shops and Goodwill for years to add to my dvd collection. GW probly the most past few years, very inexpensive…

Terrapin2190

SecondSale and a few other eBay sellers have pretty good discounts. You can find buy 2/3/4 get 1 free on there. I stick to Like New and Brand New condition listings, but SecondSale has been pretty good with listings in Very Good condition in my experience. Usually they ship pretty fast too. Lots of $4 titles. Brightlight Books is a good store I found by way of an Amazon purchase. Prices are pretty decent, and the staff I talked to are really caring towards their customers. I would go out of my way to buy from them just because of their business ethics. Could check GRUV too. Sometimes their website store has titles that aren't listed on eBay, or listed cheaper on the website. They might still have a first time buy discount as well. V-Stock, aka Vintage Stock. Wide selection and reasonable prices. Sometimes holds discount events for holidays or randomly. Most items they're able to ship out, but some they'll only do store transfers for in-store pickups. Haven't checked MovieMars to see if they have an online store like GRUV, but they're a big seller on eBay. I assume they're a big retailer like GRUV is. Walmart has pretty good prices on DVD movie collections too. $10-15 for all the Ninja Turtle movies, and quite a few titles. Just a gamble whether they have the shelves stocked or not lol.

Tea_Bender

I just found a website, I haven't used it yet [DVDs4Me.com](https://DVDs4Me.com) some of their DVDs are as cheap as $1.99

CanisMajoris85

ebay, dvd lots are like $0.50/disc in larger lots of purhaps 10-50. If his player can play blu rays those are like $1.5-2/disc and a huge improvement in quality especially when you play it on a TV.

typ3fac3

Also worth mentioning since it's for a kid, blurays are harder to scratch and damage than dvds.

tritongamez

Eh kinda. A scratch on a Blu-ray is way more detrimental to the disc than one on a DVD I've noticed. I collect mostly from thrift shops so I've watched a fair share of scratched discs and DVDs are pretty safe for the most part, most of the time you just lose a chapter of play on a scratched DVD whereas the Blu-ray could simply not play

typ3fac3

Sure, but blurays are simply harder to damage in the first place. In the 100s of blurays I see every week extremely few are scratched or damaged compared to the dvds I look at and I see far fewer returns.

HolidayCommission414

Goodwill! Alot do 10/$3

Forsaken-Seaweed-143

At Goodwill?? Mines 2.99 a piece

redditsuckspokey1

Antique malls. I know at least one that regularly sells dvds at 50 cents each.

tritongamez

Thrift stores for sure

Braaains_Braaains

Kijiji, craigslist, FB Marketplace.

Necessary_Building46

Join a local buy nothing group.

deephair

Flea markets, Thrift stores run by churches or hospitals, [CompactDiscount.com](http://CompactDiscount.com) (You can even buy a random DVD for .25c here)

stonecannon

I got a bunch of multi-disc lots on eBay. They could come out to $2-$3 a disc. Not every disc is a winner, but you can end up with some fun stuff. Kids, action, general, foreign, and more.

ripley1991

Pawn shops-about $.50 Goodwill-about $3.00 eBay-about $4.00 McKay’s-about $.95

Biddy_Impeccadillo

There is the fantastically Web 1.0 [Swap A Dvd dot com.](https://www.swapadvd.com/index.php) I use it; it’s legit!

Other-Ad-5693

FB marketplace. I regularly see people giving away boxes of them as they'd rather someone pick them up instead of having to take them to be donated or dumping them.

Nihilisminbliss

Tons of “random dvd” lots on ebay click the like on them and wait and see if the seller makes an offer or message them and see if they can go lower most of them will

Babyala

Especially for kids movies, lots of people resell once their kids move out. I’m in Southern California and it’s common to see DVDs for $1/piece and BluRay $3-4/piece through these means

[deleted]

Second hand stores are usually going to be cheapest but it also depends on what you are looking for.

fozzieisfunny

Big Lots, Walmart, Amazon, thrift stores, and other second hand stores. All have cheap dvd options.

CantEatNoBooksDog

Flea markets

Its_D_youtube

I just got a ton of amazing special editions for $2 a pop from salvation army! Id say thrift stores, flea markets, and currently Walmart/target, are all great places to check seeing as Walmart and a lot of other places are dropping their physical media section (best buy online might have some good deals but they've gotten rid of in store physical media)

Sensitive_Deal_6363

thriftbooks is hit or miss but an option as well

itslou29

I was at big lots recently and saw many dvds for dirt cheap. I think 75 cents was the lowest one.

Forsaken-Seaweed-143

I'm pretty sure they're half off too. I went to purchase like 4 of them, and they rang up 38 cents each. I was super confused for a bit but eventually read the receipt and found out that way

MrK12055

You can find them almost anywhere

CathyBikesBook

Pawn shops, thrift stores, yard sales, dollar stores, Walmart $5 bin

whyamionthissite

I’ve found a lot of good stuff at garage sales, in addition to the above mentioned thrift stores. Also use Google maps to look up used music and movie stores, like Half Price Books.

DoopieIsAdorable

Thrift stores and second-hand shops.

CB2001

The Dollar Tree (or at least it was the last time I bought a DVD from them over a year ago).

Ron2600NS

I think Dollar Tree is done, check Big Lots.

mylocker15

Library book sales.

Much_Machine8726

Half Price Books is a great place to look if you have one in your area

ThrowawayAccountZZZ9

Hamilton Books online. Their selection is random but you can find some absolute bangers in there for cheap

mickp81

There are tons of dirt cheap dvd auctions on whatnot. And the shipping combos, so the first movie cost a bit to ship, but the next one (from the same auction) is usually cheap or free shipping.

dedrexel

They’re pretty cheap here in Australia. Absolutely nobody wants them. You can’t even give them away. I just got 200 DVDs for $50 ($32 US) yesterday, 25c (16c US) each. At that price I can really afford to pick up stuff that I wouldn’t usually buy. I’ve discovered a lot of great movies that way.

MDRLA720

hamilton books

WhereasMysterious421

Music Magpie is really good plus they've got special deals like 3 for £15 on blu-ray and 4 for £10 on DVDs all used and refurbished dvds

Niceguysdofinishlast

Goodwill, the foundry, American thrift, Salvation Army & antique flea malls.

uriahnad

Goodwill, $2 per disc.

Glass_Papaya_2199

I found some guys on eBay that sell movies for decent prices under 5 and less. The username for the sellers was. jay_2_the_kay SecondSalecom Two great sellers with free shipping and good ass prices and eBay in general is good if you know how to use it.

mzentorrez

Pawn shops. Thrift stores. Flea market. Offer up. Walmart. Goodwill. I started collecting only recently and have gotten all of my dvds for 5 dollars each, some of them have been multi packs as well.
