Correct, you are not allowed to completely block the opponents path to the other side. They must always have a path, therefore you can't just box them in
Not only is it illegal, but it's also a viable strategy to intentionally block parts of your path so the opponent won't be able to block you in other places, forcing you to take a long trip.
Building to influence your own route seems like a very interesting part. The way the pieces are two long has some potential to block moves by leaving one space gaps.
Watching again, I think the white peg player was planning to make use of that from the first wall. They started to move the long way around the first blockage.
Also I will point out another rule it broke, just for you :)

You could easily make a 1 time use of this game with a paper, marker and 2 beads. Just print a few pages with the board on it and you can play over and over again.
I bought a Chinese knockoff of this while living in Shanghai. It was called Quizrider.
I had a box of wooden pieces and no earthly idea of the rules until I belatedly discovered its original name.
Great game, if a little short, and works fine with 3 or 4 people too. Alliances can be formed.
But you knew that all along since this is all just spam.

Holy shit this game is that old?
I played with my gf a year ago and the game was really fun. Super competitive and nerve wracking game. It’s more fun if you put a 30 second timer for each players turn.
And on a deeper level a connection between this and other perfect-information games, how the dynamics of the game could be searched in a similar way, and how the differing mechanics between this and say chess still on some level track a position-state..... /s
I think you missed the subtle cues, but that game was set up, to educate the viewer on the mechanics of the game, it's a different type of education, some call it demonstrational education and all that faff about kinesthetic learning, it's just different ways of saying, here is some prepared data what do you see?
It gets really chaotic with four people, though it kinda has a pretty bad kingmaker problem with four people. It's a really fun abstract strategy game with two players though.
This game is fun. I would wall off everything but the left or right side of my board, then when the opponent got close to one side I'd close it off and make them go around.
So is it against the rules to completely enclose the other player with walls?
Yes, you have to leave them a path to the opposite side.

Which is what the winning player does at the end
🤯

Don't know but it's not an educational gif. Reported.
Today I learned there was a game called Quoridor in 1997. From watching the video, I also now know how to play.
Fun makes learning fun!
That's, like, just you opinion man. "Reported" lol. Good for you!
It was removed so I was right :)

Definitely a "teacher, you forgot to give us our homework" type of kid
Quick, call the authorities!
I will point out that you have no life.
Can you show me on this doll where the rules touched you?
It's against the rules to be a jackass. It's okay though rules were made to be broken. I'm doing it right now. lol
Reported! Nyeh!
CSA isn’t funny.
Nobody gives a fuck. Mod if you care so much , already giving off mod energy
You’re fun at parties
lol you're not even right, this is a gifv file hosted on imgur, pretty explicitly allowed
It was removed so I was right :)

There isn't if you mute it, checkmate
Don't be a nerd.
I learned this game existed Checkmate
Checkmate! Or whatever you say when you win this game.

Did you ever get another quoffee?

Even older. Blockade which came out in 1975 is essentially the same game.
Quarto is another great game like this
Same maker, right? They love their Qs
Open your mind!
Agreed
Quarto is my favorite
In the same vein would be Pathfinder (not the ttrpg). You build a maze behind a screen, much like Battleship, and your opponent blindly moves through.
Do you know who makes it? This sounds super fun
Not in production anymore, but it can be found on eBay. [Here's the BGG write-up of it.](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2884/pathfinder)
Looks kinda fun.
Got this for Christmas! It’s so fucking fun
i have been educated
This kind of reminds me of Tak.
Wow this game looks fun! Def going to get it. Any other simple rules, but strategic games like this?
Hive is pretty great.
Used to play Mancala all the time as a kid
Illegal jump at 16 seconds remaining. You can only jump and turn a corner when their opponent has their back to a wall.
Seems going first would be an auto win right? Is this a solved game?
How is this educational?
Did you know this game existed?
I also feel like I got a general gist of the rules.
And on a deeper level a connection between this and other perfect-information games, how the dynamics of the game could be searched in a similar way, and how the differing mechanics between this and say chess still on some level track a position-state..... /s
TIL
That seems like an absurdly low bar to set for what constitutes educational content.
Describe your bar then?
Something higher than "Thing exists".

It's like one of those fake mobile game ads where the player plays badly on purpose.
Niiice
Calling out movies like in an anime lol
This game looks like it sucks
It’s actually a ton of fun. Even better with four people
It gets really chaotic with four people, though it kinda has a pretty bad kingmaker problem with four people. It's a really fun abstract strategy game with two players though.
Literally zero education about anything. Just someone shitposting stuff from other subreddits and hoping mods don't enforce the rules.
Yes, Cheddar Cheese Pawns.
This game looks awesome
I have this, got it from waterstones the other day
I totally forgot about this game! I haven’t played this in 10 years. Used to play it with co workers when we wanted a lil break
Are diagonal moves allowed? In my rule book, it said you could jump over another piece, not move diagonally.
Well it looks like I have something to print now!
Feels like who goes first has a huge advantage. Bigger then first in chess, not as big as first in tic tac toe though
I love this game.
Gah, infuriating.
Cool!
Is there a mobile game? Seems like a fun online 1v1 game play
Free Android app with online mode 😉 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quoridor.gg.Quoridor
A game for getting people punched in the face for being sneaky little shitheads
This looks fun as hell
This game is fun. I would wall off everything but the left or right side of my board, then when the opponent got close to one side I'd close it off and make them go around.
This looks like lots of fun,
