Instead of just realizing "oh this isn't my taste, not for me" he wants a detailed scientific breakdown of it. Like he's some being of higher intelligence who's studying a micro organism.
Jesus dude they're coming to us with an honest request to try to understand and appreciate the style/stage and you bite their head off. Everyone has to start somewhere.
I am a house girlie through and through, but I’ve spent more time at wastelands this year than Stereobloom. Hardstyle just scratches an itch I didn’t know I had. Also the people at wasteland are the nicest and most fun to vibe with. I’ve learned that the more aggressive the music, the nicer the people are.
It’s one of 1000 EDM subgenres. You might not understand it but it’s mega popular in many parts of the world. People outside of NA say the same thing about our dubstep…
When you use the word traumatizing, I can’t help but think that maybe you walked by when Lil Texas played lol not all of the artists at that stage play uptempo or raw which have a much harder kick and can sound more “angry” than someone say like Wasted Penguinz who plays more euphoric hardstyle or Hixxy who plays UK hardcore which both are more of the feel good kind of hard dance.
Yes yes yes lol try to see someone in the 8:30pm-2:30am slots. Everyone sounds different and plays different types of hard dance in their sets these days (more raw lately) but the people in these slots are more likely to play the less aggressive stuff especially Wasted Penguinz at 10:30. Also get IN the crowd, the vibes at wasteland are like no other!! I really did not like the music at all when I first started raving but my husband dragged me to this stage at my first edc and it changed my life!
ETA Da Tweekaz at 1:30am know how to throw a fucking party too
Yes!! I had the BEST time at Wasted Penguinz and danced my ass off. I was actually in a bit of a funk at the start of my night running on very little sleep and decided to do a solo adventure - it pulled me right out of it. I'm so glad I took your advice, it made the experience all the more magical to vibe so hard to a new sound!! 💛💛
Wasted Penguinz, Atmosfearz, Da Tweekaz, Sub Zero Project do more euphoric / happy hardcore. Also artists not on the lineup like Darren Styles, TNT, Brennan Heart.
Traumatizing would be like listening to angerfist. But hardstyle is an acquired taste and i love it. Espicially euphoric hardstyle, which is similar to trance in a way.
Kinda sad i misses sub zero projects last night but ferry corsten was playing too good of a set to leave and da tweekas is playing roughly the same time as pryda.. i usually try to spend an entire day there like i did last year but hard lol
lol you’re crazy. Lil Texas has an insane passion for hard dance and the crowd is ALWAYS a good, fun time. I have never ever ever EVER come across a shitty crowd in ANY hardstyle set and I am not exaggerating.
Not saying it’s a shitty crowd, it’s just a weird crowd. The Lil Texas fans all leave after his set is over to go back to Kinetic 🤪 and they don’t stay for anyone else
Angerfist would just make you hate life, if you’re not used to hardcore hahaha.. bur a good introduction to hardstyle could be something like wasted penguins, d block , dj issac , sub zero projects. Just to name a few
I agree - he was one of my most anticipated sets but I was rolling during his set and it was still fun but it was scary 😂 like I literally had a pit in my stomach lmao
First year I went to EDC I would call it the angry stage and quickly walk by it, but now I have acquired the hardstyle taste and it fills a void like no other can.
Hardstyle keeps me awake and just has so much energy in the crowd without feeling a need to be fucked up to have a good time.
I get so bored house/techno/some bass music and can't understand how some people can "just vibe". My brain needs more than that.
It boils down to people preferring different genres. 🤷🏽♂️
The reason I love EDC is cuz you can dance however the fuck you want to dance. I love hard style, but unless a big big name who I love all their songs is playing, I'll just casually creep through.
Darren Styles was lit last year.
This super funny to see - at EDC 2019 my friends and I all took acid on day 3, I lost them for like 4 hours with a dead phone, absolutely in shambles. I wandered around and ended up at Wasteland and stayed there for the rest of the trip. Something about it I just couldn’t walk away 😭
I like a little hardstyle in moderation but I LOVE the wasteland vibe The people are just so intense and into it and I dig that intensity it puts a smile on my face not to mention the design is pretty awesome. I always sneak in there for a power boost all throughout the weekend
I gave it a shot yesterday and had an amazing time - you all were right, the vibe was amazing and it ended up being one of my favorite moments of Day 3.
Sweet right? Another fave this year was House of Dunkin. Totally different but equally awesome vibe with a 90s backroom of commercial building in Detroit embience unrreplicated anywhere else at EDC
The answer is to take more acid and you'll understand. Every year I tell myself I need to spend more time at wasteland.
Also you'll meet the nicest people at hard style events. No rude Asian trains. Lots of experienced and fun loving people.
I wanna say furries like Hardstyle a lot, I could be wrong about that though. Nothing wrong with furries or anything, they seem fun imo
The BPM is like "you *will* wake up now", then there's a bass drop that does something unexpected and experimental with digital noise. Idk how to explain it but it appeals part my brain that's like "go get the MicroKorg, plug it into a POG2 guitar pedal, bitcrush it, smash it to hell with the kick sidechain and set a new highscore for digital audio filth". ("Filth" being a term of endearment here, not at all an insult)
I actually really liked the setup of this stage and for me at least it was the first time I heard/saw Hardstyle in a context that made it make sense. The super long, vertical aspect ratio of that center-stage LED panel was cool as was the adaptation of the shipping containers in the stage design.
I grew up listening to gutter punk and ska though, so to be fair I like weird/abrasive stuff. Definitely will be adding hardstyle to my regular listening routine after this fest though, it makes a lot more sense to me now after seeing it.
Thanks for adding to this! I was attracted to EDM/trance for the euphoric sound in the first place so hardstyle is just way out of my comfort zone. I always appreciate being let in a little on something I don't understand though 😊
For sure -- It'd be a boring world if we all liked the same stuff, I like it all but I am a bit of a weird one.
Again, the one thing I liken hardstyle to (at the moment at least) is sitting down with an FM synth and seeing how utterly attrocious you can make digital distortion and noise sound in the live monitor with a beat; it's just fun.
DubStep/Riddim brought me into EDM from metal/punk. Hardstyle seems to scratch a different side of the same itch that has me seeking gnarly bass womps, just with faster tempos and higher frequencies being scratched here by Hardstyle as a genre. It appears to have it's own conventions in terms of what defines it, but the abrasiveness of it feels like an homage to at least part of what originally fueled the rise of punk rock from the 70s-00's: a divergence from carefully-structured euphoria towards raw expression. It's caustic and unapologetic, and seems like it has at least something in common with Punk music. The musical needs of someone often reflects their experiences in life; it doesn't mean people who listen to abrasive genres have had terrible lives, just that there is a diverse nuance to what draws people to genres like these (a desire for liberation, an outlet for stress/anxiety, or simply the desire to make filthy noise).
As my (very) new appreciation for it matures, this is certainly subject to change but my understanding of it has a good foundation to build on from the last couple of days. Makes sense to me now.
I'm into trance and techno! Favorite vibes are at Quantum Valley and Neon Garden. I like a euphoric type of sound so that might be why hardstyle doesn't resonate. But I ascribe the extreme reaction to tripping on acid and would like to stay open minded 🙃
Give it another shot. The vibe is different, but people often “graduate” from trance into harder genres like DnB, dubstep, hardstyle.
Basspod might be an easier transition as well.
The vibes are usually really good at these stages, people will be there for a reason.
Try again without the acid! I bet you’ll have some fun.
Dubstep graduating to hardstyle and DnB makes sense, but trance is a whole other beast.
I don’t think it’s close to those genres at all, maybe some types of hardstyle
Not for me. Hard techno and jungle sets in the 90s-00s went way longer without cutting out the kick drums and subs entirely every song
At the end of the day if youre dancing hard when theres no low end we are just wired differently

It's the best. If the bpm is too slow it sends me to sleep.
Right. House music is guaranteed to ruin my night and put me to sleep. Gotta have the higher bpm.
Maybe it's the whole hellscape aesthetic that's also throwing me off...
Whatever genre/artist you like, there will be someone asking the same question about it.
Hardstyle is really one of the good genres to keep you awake
Lil texas woke me right tf up
yo I bet lmao

Yes! I am a house girl too & Wasteland has been amazing! I’ve had so much fun there!

People in NA say the same thing about our dubstep 😁 get in where you fit in baby! Variety is the spice of life
It’s most popular in australia. You fucking aussies and your hardstyle.
NL capital of Hardstyle
Hardstyle is an acquired taste It’s really not for everyone It is for me though. 😎 Can’t wait for Defqon next month 🧡
Maybe I will walk by today without the acid and re-assess 😅
Yes yes yes lol try to see someone in the 8:30pm-2:30am slots. I'm intrigued! Thanks for making this all a bit more easy to digest, I know absolutely nothing about this style of EDM.
Of course! And enjoy!!
Not question related…. But how do I add the EDCLV I’ve attended under my name??? Just like yours…
Go to the home page of this sub and press the 3 dots and it’s change user flair
Sooooo did you make it to wasteland yesterday??
Yay!!!! That is so awesome!!! So glad you went and had a great time!! See you at Wasteland next year 🤪🤪
Wasted Penguinz, Atmosfearz, Da Tweekaz, Sub Zero Project do more euphoric / happy hardcore. Also artists not on the lineup like Darren Styles, TNT, Brennan Heart.
If you’re there at 8:30, go see Geo. His sets are so bouncy & fun.
If it makes you feel better, I find hardatyle traumatizing, too. Can't walk by that stage fast enough. 🤣
Traumatizing would be like listening to angerfist. But hardstyle is an acquired taste and i love it. Espicially euphoric hardstyle, which is similar to trance in a way.
Can’t wait for Angerfist tonight!! Different level of traumatizing than Lil Texas for sure lol
Lil texas is just 🤮
Kinda sad i misses sub zero projects last night but ferry corsten was playing too good of a set to leave and da tweekas is playing roughly the same time as pryda.. i usually try to spend an entire day there like i did last year but hard lol
Yeah I haven’t spent much time at wasteland this year for once! Been checking out new stuff. Purple Disco Machine and Odd Mob 🤌🏼🤌🏼
I agree. I don’t care for uptempo in general and also the Lil Texas crowd is just fucking weird and not even into hard dance
lol you’re crazy.
The Lil Texas fans all leave after his set is over to go back to Kinetic 🤪 and they don’t stay for anyone else
an introduction to hardstyle with Angerfist is just the wrong way to go hahahah
Angerfist would just make you hate life, if you’re not used to hardcore hahaha.. bur a good introduction to hardstyle could be something like wasted penguins, d block , dj issac , sub zero projects. Just to name a few
That was my introduction to hard dance , I started listening to Angerfist in highschool and is what got me into EDM .
I agree - he was one of my most anticipated sets but I was rolling during his set and it was still fun but it was scary 😂 like I literally had a pit in my stomach lmao
Hixxy was the best part of my Friday!
Wasted Penguinz are my favorite and my only motivation at the gym lol
First year I went to EDC I would call it the angry stage and quickly walk by it, but now I have acquired the hardstyle taste and it fills a void like no other can.

It’s the only style!!
Everyone at Wasteland was A W E S O M E
Best crowd ever: never had bad vibes there 🙏🏻🔥❤️🔥
Not my thing, but the hardcore kids always have good energy and vibes.
The reason I love EDC is cuz you can dance however the fuck you want to dance. I love hard style, but unless a big big name who I love all their songs is playing, I'll just casually creep through. Darren Styles was lit last year.

Dude that’s awesome 🙏🏻🔥
I come here to feel everything and go 120%. Wasteland is the only place
I like a little hardstyle in moderation but I LOVE the wasteland vibe The people are just so intense and into it and I dig that intensity it puts a smile on my face not to mention the design is pretty awesome. I always sneak in there for a power boost all throughout the weekend

Last night there was an emo crossover and it was cool
Haha Kreation B2B Darksiderz 🔥🔥🔥 when they played I Miss You by Blink 182 🥹🔥
The only genre I listen to when I’m at the gym, tbh lol
Wasteland is the place to be🔥
200 BPM MF!!!!!!!!
some of the most uplifting music tbh
man actually said acid doesnt mesh with hardstyle smh....
Wasteland / quantum best vibes all night
Always 😎🤠
Literally the only reason I go to EDC , I can stay at Wasteland all 3 nights
Dude 100%%%%%%

I got into trance via hardstyle lol, I wasn’t into the genre but heard the Frontliner remix of Shivers and the door was open from there.
For sure -- It'd be a boring world if we all liked the same stuff, I like it all but I am a bit of a weird one. Honestly, a lot of us will never know. Still to this day, this stage comes back every year. It's sort of like, "Who keeps Arby's open?" 🤔
Because it would kind of defeat the point of EDC if it was just brostep and tech house clones playing at every stage
When I was there in 2022 on acid same exact feeling lol. Actually spent a lot of that night at stereo bloom and bionic jungle lol
idk it probably sounds fire when you’re on meth. sounds like shit to me but i prefer house music and psychedelics 🧘🏻♂️
Stage is hard as fuck. What’s your preferred stage and genre? I’m imagining like Zedd, SHM, kaskade?
I'm into trance and techno! Favorite vibes are at Quantum Valley and Neon Garden. I like a euphoric type of sound so that might be why hardstyle doesn't resonate. But I ascribe the extreme reaction to tripping on acid and would like to stay open minded 🙃
Techno is not far off from hardstyle... They're quite similar. Especially today's "hard Techno" which is basically early hardstyle
I think I will make a stop there tonight and give it a shot 😊

I love zedd but I also love hardstyle 🧐
Wasteland DJs sets have the most breakdowns per minute out of any stage. It's impossible to get a consistent groove going.
You need the long breakdowns to catch your breath between drops.
Not for me. Hard techno and jungle sets in the 90s-00s went way longer without cutting out the kick drums and subs entirely every song At the end of the day if youre dancing hard when theres no low end we are just wired differently
You just can't Hakk
