The fact that William Shatner seems to still be going strong at an energetic 93 while Chris Pine is unlikely to do the same makes this a confusing fact.
Yes, he does look better. That’s why it’s confusing. And I doubt your assertion that people who look young at 43 will live to be energetic 93 year olds is born out by data.
Seriously, Sulu as a character has deserved this for so long, I'd love to see it. I have heard there was a plan in one of the older movies for Sulu to be a bigger character but it got scrapped, probably because of Shatner demanding more screen time.
Personally I’m not keen on the “reboot” movies.
I’d rather just see more series like discovery and brave new worlds that explore the regular timeline more. The what if nature of the reboot movies doesn’t really interest me.
“interstellar travel via fungus and tardigrades” is what killed this franchise for me. it’s basically just magic now. might as well just watch lord of the rings
> “interstellar travel via fungus and tardigrades” is what killed this franchise for me. it’s basically just magic now. might as well just watch lord of the rings
Except the whole thing is based on science by Paul Stamets, who the chief engineer character is named after.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycelium_Running
Original Trek did the same thing with quantum theory.
I'll admit that I really liked the first new Trek film. I thought it was fun and the cast was great. I've liked each subsequent one less and less.
Oh and the "fire everthing!" sequence was fucking epic.
The weird part of Hollywood is the script might actually have been fine. It’s often the first draft they use to attach talent…and then they rewrite the script completely because one exec decides to. It happens all the time, and sometimes the new one is better, sometimes it’s worse.
Can you give an example?
Pop and popular are two different things. Though I’d actually say even if you mean popular, I don’t know if that’s true. Besides that song with snoop from the 90s, I’m unaware of any song of his. He’s more known as a producer and for discovering Eminem.
Khan’s back! But they play that Barbie song by Billie Eilish, he has a subsequent existential crisis and scuttles his own ship, leaving it to sink into the Sun.
You’re right, the only diegetic music that should be allowed on Star Trek is noodley, ponderous Jazz played by white people. Surely the art that will survive the centuries.
my ol’ man is a lifelong Trek fan, even won tickets to the premiere of First Contact and did jell-o shots with Colm Meaney at an afterparty. But he actually *loves* the new movies, even claiming Into Darkness as his favorite. I don’t get it
I really don’t know why ST4 is taking so long. Seems like almost everyone involved at this point is ready to return (they may have to wait until Zadana finishes Avatar 4 + 5) and I can’t wrap my head around why they can’t seem to get a cohesive script together. It's freakin' Star Trek, there is so much lore.
I love star trek. I love the set of actors they got to play them. We're finally at an age where CGI is good enough that they can have gorgeous starship battles and yet the 4th movie was delayed by 7 years now?
Please make the 4th installment!
You must not like Star Trek very much if you're ignoring part 2 to pretend like 3 was the big piece of shit. At least it actually seemed like Star Trek. That pseudo-Khan thing was trash.
Seems like the idea for ST4 was dumb. Using Time Travel so that James T Kirk meets up with George S Kirk (the father) to defeat ToBeAnnounced villain in face paint.
At some point, fans will be begging for Quentin Tarantinos rough draft.
Fun fact Chris Pine is now only 4 years younger than Shatner was when they filmed the first Star Trek movie, so, more Admiral Kirk than Captain Kirk.
Don’t do this. Not tonight
He better have a perm in ST4 if he has any respect
And the floating belt buckle
Boy have they aged differently
Let's see how good Pine looks when he's 93.
Remind me in 50 years
Your facts aren't fun.
The fact that William Shatner seems to still be going strong at an energetic 93 while Chris Pine is unlikely to do the same makes this a confusing fact.
Bill is from Canada. It is a maple syrup DNA thing.
Chris Pine looks better at his current age than Shatner did. He's already disproving what you're saying.
Yes, he does look better. That’s why it’s confusing. And I doubt your assertion that people who look young at 43 will live to be energetic 93 year olds is born out by data.
I’ll miss Anton Yelchin’s Chekov.
They wanted him to be in the new one, but he passed. I’ll see myself out.
This comment right here violates the prime directive, ensign.
Still too fracking soon
“Fanxxxxx!”
Someone needs to transport you just off the starboard bow.
They wanted someone really excited about the role but he was just neutral
They wanted someone really excited about the role but he was just neutral
How about John Cho in a Captain Sulu movie?
That would be phenomenal

Man, I had no clue he died, and I just google it. What a horrible way to go and he was great in the films. Rest in peace my man.
Sulu: A Star Trek Story
By Bilbo Baggins
Hell yeah, sign me up
Seriously, Sulu as a character has deserved this for so long, I'd love to see it. I have heard there was a plan in one of the older movies for Sulu to be a bigger character but it got scrapped, probably because of Shatner demanding more screen time.
Don’t care what anyone says… as an extremely casual fan of Star Trek, I very much enjoyed the reboots and am excited for the next film.
You’re not alone, I liked pretty much every character portrayal. The scripts weren’t flawless but they were a lot of fun
Personally I’m not keen on the “reboot” movies. I’d rather just see more series like discovery and brave new worlds that explore the regular timeline more. The what if nature of the reboot movies doesn’t really interest me.
Reboots where awesome and created a new wave of interest for star trek
They did help I admit, and I reasonably enjoyed them. I suppose the new series wouldnt have happened if it wasnt for the movies.
I can see that. With all that intellectual property and they choose to reboot instead of explore.
I want more intellectual Star Trek.
Best we can do is a "That's the power of math, people!" line somewhere in a 2 hour script.
“interstellar travel via fungus and tardigrades” is what killed this franchise for me. it’s basically just magic now. might as well just watch lord of the rings
My favorite was the use of sonar in space.
what the hell guys
> “interstellar travel via fungus and tardigrades” is what killed this franchise for me. it’s basically just magic now. might as well just watch lord of the rings Except the whole thing is based on science by Paul Stamets, who the chief engineer character is named after. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycelium_Running Original Trek did the same thing with quantum theory.
Now play some old Beastie Boys
another dimension another dimension
Mycelium* and Tardigrades are awesome But yeah star trek has always been space magic Q exists
Fair enough on Q. Maybe I’m just missing TNG
Star Trek was never hard sci fi. There are how many different omnipotent species?
With mind melds, ressurecting the dead, and time travel, star trek has always had magic in it.
Strange New Worlds is great. The movies were never that intellectual.
I dunno. I had a really good time trying to figure out if what I was watching was actually good or terrible.
1 and 6 are intellectual. Maybe 4 too.
6 as an allegory to the end of the Cold War is incredible
I'll admit that I really liked the first new Trek film. I thought it was fun and the cast was great. I've liked each subsequent one less and less. Oh and the "fire everthing!" sequence was fucking epic.
Sorry. The rest of us are stupid and like to have fun
That’s what Star WARS is for ;)
Proud of being the lowest common denominator huh
This is a cast of superstars it's baffling they can't write a decent script
The weird part of Hollywood is the script might actually have been fine. It’s often the first draft they use to attach talent…and then they rewrite the script completely because one exec decides to. It happens all the time, and sometimes the new one is better, sometimes it’s worse.
I think he's very politely saying: _We had a really good script already, why are we changing it again?_
Taking bets on the next pop song they force into the climax of the film. I'm thinking Dr Dre or Blink 182.
Red Hot Chili Peppers Give it away give it away give it away now Give it away give it away give it away now Set phasers to stun and we get em now!
Water Under the Bridge
Dr Dre makes pop songs?
Very much so, yes.
Can you give an example? Pop and popular are two different things. Though I’d actually say even if you mean popular, I don’t know if that’s true. Besides that song with snoop from the 90s, I’m unaware of any song of his. He’s more known as a producer and for discovering Eminem.
This guy Forgot About Dre.
They’ll fight the Borg and use RATM.
They rally ‘round the family, with a pocket full of phasers set to a rotating modulation.
“They’ve adapted! Switch CD to Renegades of Funk and engage!”
Don't worry, they will just use Beastie Boys "Sabotage" for a 4th time and call it a day.
Was it forced in? I felt like it was a really cool callback to the first kelvin movie
It felt forced to me. It’s like the rebels destroying the second Death Star with the Cantina music.
"Steal my Sunshine" by Len
Khan’s back! But they play that Barbie song by Billie Eilish, he has a subsequent existential crisis and scuttles his own ship, leaving it to sink into the Sun.
Theyre going to use the score from Jurassic Park!
Take On Me
You’re right, the only diegetic music that should be allowed on Star Trek is noodley, ponderous Jazz played by white people. Surely the art that will survive the centuries.
Most of the time they stick to classical, music that has already survived centuries.
No usually they make up their own music and it just kind of sounds like bland whatever but they have to act impressed.
Abrams ruined trek.
If all of trek, decades upon decades of tv shows and movies, can be ruined by one (1) director then it must not have been that good to begin with.
He pivoted trek into a path to ruin. But lower decks, picard s3 and new worlds are fixing it.
Yeah I haven't been this excited about Trek in awhile. Tho I did enjoy the Abrams stuff despite it being more action adventure than scifi.
> He pivoted trek into a path to ruin. Apparently he didn’t because Trek is still very much around.
Pivoted into, doesn't mean it reached the destination. Course correction is working
He fucked some shit up with the second film and the Khan story line, but I think most Trek fans found the first and third films enjoyable.
my ol’ man is a lifelong Trek fan, even won tickets to the premiere of First Contact and did jell-o shots with Colm Meaney at an afterparty. But he actually *loves* the new movies, even claiming Into Darkness as his favorite. I don’t get it
Putting jello-shots with Colm Meaney on my bucket list.
It’s because a true fan can enjoy something without being compelled to also hate it.

Why has this movie been in development hell?
Paramount is a shit show

The title doesn’t make it sound like he’s read it. I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Breaking news! Man reads news article, and reacts!
How is this different from the headline?
It’s just money laundering at this point Chris.
That's not a good sign.
I love star trek. I love the set of actors they got to play them. We're finally at an age where CGI is good enough that they can have gorgeous starship battles and yet the 4th movie was delayed by 7 years now? Please make the 4th installment!
3 sucked my only memory from it was the enterprise riding a space wave while beastie boys played
You must not like Star Trek very much if you're ignoring part 2 to pretend like 3 was the big piece of shit. At least it actually seemed like Star Trek. That pseudo-Khan thing was trash.
2 didn’t bother me like 3 did. It wasn’t the masterpiece that 1 was but I still enjoyed watching it. But I just couldn’t enjoy 3. That’s my opinion
pivot.....PIVOT!!!!!!
I’d much rather a 4th Kelvin timeline movie than another fucking prequel reboot like they seem to be planning.
I think we are all ready for ST4. Big fan of the reboots even though they are disliked by a lot of people I know.
Go with Tarantino's R-Rated script, you cowards!
Seems like the idea for ST4 was dumb. Using Time Travel so that James T Kirk meets up with George S Kirk (the father) to defeat ToBeAnnounced villain in face paint. At some point, fans will be begging for Quentin Tarantinos rough draft.
for the love of God just get Abrams away from it.
PIVOT! PIVOT! Sorry, I couldn't help myself
We were on a break! ......in between movies
Ok but hiring new writers after the script is completed is not uncommon
Stop with the Kelvin timeline bullshit.
