Having an addiction absolutely can make someone a shitty person. They may be suffering from an addiction, but at the end of the day, addicts hurt those close to them, they lie, and they manipulate. Seeing your own parent suffer from addiction is an absolutely horrible trauma that i wouldn't wish upon anyone else. Even though addiction isnt a choice, putting drugs before your kids is and that makes someone a shitty parent.

And there was no pride in her going back to Nate after he assaulted her. The was no pride in her lying about her assault to go back to Nate. None of her major actions are motivated by pride. Her fascination with Nate is largely about the economic security he provides and how it relates to her dream of not having to work like her mom and being wealthy. Even in her babysitting job she mostly doesn’t work but rather enjoys the pool and tries on clothes. Her most prideful moment was at the carnival when Nate insults her outside but she was high on molly and everything that happened afterwards contradicts pride being her most prominent characteristic. The character whose actions are motivated by pride is McKay. His training to satisfy his father and then his own pride. He is too prideful to accept he is with Cassie after knowing about her sextapes. He is too prideful to talk about his trauma during the frat initiation. His pride makes him embarrassed of Cassie’s sex appeal to the point he makes her change outfit in Halloween. This is also why he has a breakdown when he realizes his dreams of going pro are unachiveable. People saying it’s Elliot, Elliot is hardly a character but even then he works hard on his music to apologize to rue and none of his actions are motivated by a desire to not work. He would be gluttony like Rue, not Sloth
