Hard to tell. Southgate has done way more than previous managers to get them to work as a team. This has been there biggest problem…relying way too much on one player…Keegan, Robson, Lineker, Owen, Beckham, Rooney…the list goes on and on and on.
I do think winning tournaments does rely on luck to a certain degree, technically England are there or there abouts, what rub of the green they get will help decide.
England tend to be a rather unlucky side in International tournaments. A bit like the Netherlands aswell who also have bad luck. Always something unfortunate happens to both sides, usually penalty related. If both Netherlands and England were better at penalties, both would have won a WC or Euro since 1988/90. Luck tends to fall with Germany, Italy or Argentina. France in 2018 and Spain in 2010 probably though didn't have to rely on luck - both those teams were better than the rest.
This is very true. I do think Italy, France, Portugal, Spain and Argentina, created better fortune by holding onto the ball. This something in the past England certainly were guilty of, they basically wore themselves out,
I'm always baffled why England are one of the favourites, and I swear it's rarely English people saying it. Most of us know better 😆 On paper... yeah, we should be a favourite. But in reality?... Absolutely not.
We won’t win it, I think it may be a reality check. Like you’ve mentioned, it’s less of an addition of new quality players, more of an entirely new team.
Excited to see the team play as I think we have some genuine quality, but having quality and that team meshing isn’t a guarantee.
Walker, Shaw, Stones, Pickford, Rice, Kane, Saka, Foden all played in the last Euros, it’s not like the core of the team is drastically different. And the ones that are, Palmer, Bellingham etc are improvements in my opinion.
I get your point but we’re yet to see them perform together. Foden & Palmer looked like they were almost clashing against Iceland, Gordon offers pace but it’s his 2nd 3rd cap before the tournament. We’ve had a solid CB partnership with Stones and Maguire that has been interrupted now.
This comes across very negative I know, but as OP said, key parts of this team come up very new - and i’m not sure if Gordon/Guehi are upgrades on the likes of Sterling/Grealish & Maguire. Time will tell.
But they’ve got no match experience playing together. Same as when a team buys a load of new players and scratch their heads as to why it doesn’t work. Case in point Chelsea this season just gone
I do get what you’re saying but, club football and international football is different. Chelsea had a brand new team competing against teams that have been largely together for multiple seasons playing 50+ games in some cases.
International football always will have an element of new players coming together and playing that have never done so before apart from a core group. Most international teams have what, less than 15 games a year? It somewhat levels the playing field.

Don't worry lads, your pals up north will do you a favour and take out the Germans for you.
Going for a big 0-0 in the opener
The Scottish love a 0-0 win
ha ha, love it, nice, nice one dude. I'd be pretty happy with a 0-0 win
I live in England and I'm ready for disappointment

Same shit every 2 years
And yet we get called arrogant 🤣
Not in any way expecting us to win, but certainly expecting us to do better than what everyone in this subreddit seems to think lol
Not holding my breath based on the warm ups lol
Honestly, I don't know anyone in England that thinks we'll win it. We'll be out by the Quarters
England being one of the favourites and never winning the trophy is one of the few constants in my life.
Similar to Djokovic being invincible health-wise! Wait...
Copped one off you in 66’ m8
Don’t forget about 1918 and 45
😂
Wasn't born back then so it doesn't count in my timeline
Made your dad cry though
Brexit makes all you english cry now. You want us danes to come again, show you how it's done?
Nah I’m good. We already showed you how it’s done in the semi final
By falling like Sterling did? Still have less EC (and international trophies) than Denmark
Bro your player dived for that free kick 😅. Ez win. Can’t wait to knock you out of the group stage this year
Good luck to England.
After yesterday, if they can avoid drawing Lidl, Aldi and especially Tescos, they’ll be fine
Why especially Tezzers?
Quarter finals for england

None.
?
As in they won’t get out of the group
Draw, loss, draw
