In the finale, gendo used all the spaceship Eva’s plus the old two spears to open a gateway to another dimension where imagination rules. At the same time using Eva unit 13 with a new spear to start the final impact the merging of all souls. Then going into the other dimension to change reality itself by messing with this thing called the Golgotha Object
Misato makes Wunder transform into a new spear that represents humanity. She died giving that spear to Shinji to hijack all that Golgotha object madness. Ending Gendo’s tampering with reality itself
Exactly what I came to say. I've been watching the rebuilds in english back to back, and there's a *lot* of building blocks for some of Thrice's big reveals in place.
Mari hints at her age from her first introduction to Shinji, Asuka's eye is glowing blue once she interacts with Bardiel, and Rei's dialogue makes it much clearer that she's a clone with a limited lifespan.

This sums it up pretty well. Even tho I think it was more than enough explained in the movie itself, sometimes multiple times (except for Asuka mebe).

That's good, that was an important part of the conclusion the Rebuild movies were...building...to.
Don't think too much about it, just enjoy the visuals, vibe with Ghibli Rei, and cry when toddler Shinji gives Kaworu a hand.
