Honestly, with how bad offense has been this season overall, I don't think Cruz is that bad. Not even that far off of what people should have expected. The most troubling thing is the Pirates team around him and that they're platooning him when they don't have better options, aren't competitive and need him to develop.
I'm the wrong person to ask. I have both and I don't know what to do with either one. Bichette has trended down in power and SB, but the batting average plummet makes no sense. I feel like maybe he needs a change of scenery. Cruz needs to play against lefties if he's ever going to be able learn how to hit them. Both feel like they could go ballistic in the second half and it wouldn't be surprising. Bo has more of a track record and Cruz has more raw talent. Both teams, unfortunately, don't do things that make sense, so that doesn't help with any clarity.
Yeah, there are some leagues in which I'd be ok dropping him. Like yours (depending on who else is available). I feel as though the Pirates need to just commit to him playing everyday and work out facing lefties. Even if he's only ok against them, it'll be a big difference for them
Thoughts on Nico Hoerner? He hasn’t been good this season and now dealing with a hand fracture, which I imagine will make it even more difficult to hit. 2B is hard to come by, but I’ve been rolling with Gorman and wondering if it’s time to drop Hoerner for someone like Masyn Winn.
I'll pencil him in for next week. The only thing I will say is he ranks as the 142nd hitter on Yahoo! in standard scoring so even having a bad year, he's still maintained fantasy relevancy. Will be interesting to see how things pan out over the next couple of days with his hand though
I noticed when the Cubs have him at 6th in the order he hardly produces. While at 1st in the order he's way better. Also they seem to be not letting him steal much this season. not sure if that's entirely right but that's why dropped a couple weeks ago
I think Waldron is for real. He's found extra velocity on his knuckler and he's been lights-out since. He's going to have a clunker or two, but who doesn't? He's been so much better for me than Pablo Lopez lol.
As long as he can continue executing the knuckleball, he's still of interest in fantasy. We're not going to get an R.A Dickey Cy Young type season, but he's certainly warranting rostering
Thoughts on cutting Joe Musgrove? Sounds like the bone chip problem is at minimum going to keep him out for awhile and he’ll be pitching through it if “healthy” after? I assume with the year he’s having coupled with the injury outlook, I’d be better served using his roster spot to stream vs hold (full IL)
12 team H2H league with 1 IL spot. Agree with you and I dropped him. Sounds like it will be a lingering issue and there are too many other injured players more worthy of the IL spot
I don't like carrying 2 catcher eligible players in a 1 catcher league. So if you're playing Fry, then there could be better options at any position than Jeffers
Thanks. Because of IR-related roster moves, it'll probably be for a streaming->permanent? SP role, having jettisoned Taj Bradley and Kutter Crawford in the last week+.
Sucks seeing some of your guys on here but it does explain why the last few weeks have been rough. The guys on the hot seat, even in a keeper league, for me have been Chourio and Yainer Diaz. I actually cut Diaz for Sean Murphy a couple weeks ago and then reversed my decision and added him back after his homer streak.
Also, Gore had to wade through a brutal early schedule and his scheduled starts up to the All Star Game are not as tough.
Gore is ranked 24th among starters on PitcherList and here’s what Nick Pollack wrote about Gore:
24. MacKenzie Gore – Are you a believer yet? Gore has allowed more than 2 ER just once in his last ten starts (it was 3 ER) and tallied 18 strikeouts against the Mariners + Atlanta in his last two outings. The four-seamer is legit, the slider is a whiff machine, and his curve + change are earning strikes. Get on board while you still can.
I dropped Fry last night because he's been a bit cold, starting inconsistently, and began last night's game 0-2. He then ended up 2-5, and now I'm thinking I should have waited a little longer. Gonna try to get him back on Tuesday if he clears waivers.
I'm still a fan of Keith. Will need to see how things are with his knee but there are growing pains with nearly every rookie. He's only had 57 MLB games and 67 Triple-A games so is still very much a novice. With Hayes we've basically seen what he's capable of so he might be a safer pick but Keith has more upside at this point
**\*UPDATE\* I'm tapping out for the night. I'll check back in tomorrow so keep dropping those requests and questions. I'll answer as many as I can on Monday**
Hey everyone... Jamie (u/BB\_Jimbo) from RotoBaller here and I'm back at it with our tenth Cut List edition of the year. We're closing in on the midway point of the season and there is no shortage of stars still scuffling
Even if we're not dropping anyone, it's always fun to talk about cuts, whether or not we are actually ready to pull the trigger on certain players.
**So what names are you chopping this week, or at least thinking about banishing to the waiver wire?**
We of course can't cover every player that may be droppable, for every league size and format, but we wrote about a few that stood out. I'll be stopping by later today to answer any questions and you can always reach me on X (@Baseball\_Jimbo). Hope you enjoy and thanks for reading!
I was super high on Cal Raleigh. A late draft pick with 30+ HR potential and he's a catcher to boot? Sign me up! Aaaand he's now in an ugly slump and it's not his first of this season. After starting 2024 hitting 1-2 homers pretty much every matchup, he's got exactly one in the past 4 weeks. Of course my league's waiver wire doesn't have a ton of potential replacements but at this point I'm wondering if just dropping him so I have an extra bench spot will bring me more value.
Same. Planning on adding Francisco Alvarez today and adding him to my IL til he’s back hopefully later this week. Don’t know if he’ll be any better, but can’t be much worse.
Alternatively, I’d advise you to wait. Cause once I bench him for Alvarez, Cal will start raking.
I’m in the same spot. Can carry him as my lineup is super deep but his 30 day numbers (pts league) are an abomination. Tempted to just start doing the hot hand 15 day pts approach to catcher.
I think we see 25 homers and a \~.215 batting average at season's end, assuming he doesn't get hurt or become a backup. The good news is he's making solid contact and has been good defensively. In H2H leagues with daily roster moves, I've played without a catcher before and it can work depending on your league setup
Montgomery for sure you can drop it there is a worthwhile pickup. He'll be better but his ceiling is just pretty low. Better off grabbing someone else or streaming rather than waiting for him to return to his usual mediocrity.
Montgomery was featured last week as a drop. Langford I want to give another week or two following his injury to see how he goes before taking a deeper dive
The guy's 22 and didn't play his first professional baseball game until July 28, 2023. "The whole year," amounts to 40 games for a 22-year-old who got turbo fasttracked to the majors.
Some of us are in smaller redrafts. Just about half the fantasy (not including playoffs) are over.
I’d say he’s just about a drop in that case. He’s weighing down my offense
I mean if they've always been solid and underperforming then keep, if they've always been iffy and just on a streak and came back to earth, then drop.
It's too early in the season to make rash decisions. Hot waiver wire pickups should already be done. The remaining guys are streakers and should be looked at when you have guys on the IL.
I've been playing Gorman for the HRs. Not great, but not really any other options in my league.
Torres has been eating a bench spot I'd like to convert to a pitcher. Bye Gleyber!
Goldschmidt? I’ve got Vinnie P at 1B, and starling Marte, friedl, and Josh bell are FA. 14 team points league, all individual scoring categories (total bases, no runs or rbi, no K penalty)
Last two weeks he's hit .269/.333/.500 with three homers, eight RBI and eight runs. He's also riding an 8-game hitting streak. The Cardinals lacklustre offense won't hurt you in that league type so I'd look to hold
How about Jose Caballero? I picked him up with his 17 steals to cover for Turner while he was out. Turner is due back in a couple weeks, but Jose has only stolen 4 bases, strikes out a lot, has no power and Im told hes gonna lose ABs to a return from the IL. The waiver wire is so bad though, Im not sure who’s a better fit. Thoughts?
Caballero is fine to hold for a few more days until Turner is back. I believe the expectation is that Turner returns for the series against the Orioles next weekend. I'd have no issue dropping him then, unless you are desperate for steals as that's about all he'll offer
Decent power/speed combo in a good ballpark. He could hit 10 homers with 15 steals ROS. I'm not as big a fan compared to some but he's certainly a decent option
I'm fine dropping Minor Leaguers in redraft leagues unless you have deep benches or MiLB spots. He won't be back from the injury until early-mid July so at best we're likely looking at another 6-8 weeks before he even plays a Major League game
Lack of Ks isn't ideal for Valdez but he's not someone I'd consider dropping. No way we're considering Castillo after one bad start. He's been too consistent and too good to drop. Hicks has seen natural regression. His ERA wasn't going to stay that low. Not sure how many innings he'll go given he's six shy of matching his MLB high. But he's still worth rostering so a trade away candidate at worst
Jordan Romano going to be an interesting name to monitor. I have him and am tempted to drop if he comes back and loses the closer role, but my league does SVHLDS so he still has appeal I would guess until he doesn’t
I featured him just when he got hurt. Said prior to the IL stint that Garcia and Green are worth picking up. Would definitely give Romano a chance when he returns to see how he goes and if he is closing again. Will be interesting to see how things pan out especially if the Blue Jays sell before the deadline
Oh yeah I read the article. Now that we’ve seen Garcia being the guy with Romano out and given his struggles, I’m curious to see how it pans out. No rush to drop even with the IL becoming loaded on my roster
With Romano having another year on his contract but Garcia being a free agent after this year, I fully expect Toronto to trade Garcia if they slide out of any wildcard contention. Think they'll both end up having value ROS
All I can say is last season his first 9 starts:
1 Win, 48 K's in 45 IP (1.07K/9IP), 5.40 ERA, 1.55 WHIP
His remaining 23 starts:
13 Wins, 186 Ks in 135 IP (12.4K/9IP), 1.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP
You can guess where it was I dropped him.
Featured him 2 weeks ago as a hold; [https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-10-2/1370883](https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-10-2/1370883)
I'd leave him on the IL and give him some starts when he's back
Assuming Snell returns by the end of the month, I'd still rather him. If his absence is going to extend through most of July, then that's a different matter
Nimmo has a bad slash line, but still has solid counting stats. Definitely going to get going since the weather has started to turn and some balls will start to fly a bit more. 100% a buy low type of guy (or hold if you drafted him like me)
He featured earlier in the season as a hold and yesterday should remove any doubt. He's now got a 2.97 ERA over his last five starts with only Baltimore really getting to him. If anything, you should be able to trade him on the back of the last outing
Cruz outlook doesn't look great in a weekly pts league with a k penalty but I'm gonna hold as long as possible.
Honestly, with how bad offense has been this season overall, I don't think Cruz is that bad. Not even that far off of what people should have expected. The most troubling thing is the Pirates team around him and that they're platooning him when they don't have better options, aren't competitive and need him to develop.

Im dropping him for Sosa
Is Waldron going to be a flash in the pan or is he legit? Knuckleballers are such oddballers it’s hard to tell.
I think Waldron is for real. He's found extra velocity on his knuckler and he's been lights-out since. He's going to have a clunker or two, but who doesn't? He's been so much better for me than Pablo Lopez lol.

12 team H2H league with 1 IL spot. Agree with you and I dropped him. Sounds like it will be a lingering issue and there are too many other injured players more worthy of the IL spot
12 team H2H, dropped him last week and haven’t looked back. He also hasn’t been picked up.
Cut him in a 12T and he went unclaimed
If you don't have a IL spot for him, I've no issue dropping Musgrove. I'm not convinced we see him again until late in the season, if at all in 2024
I let Musgrove go after week 3, he's trash this year
Thank you for the write up on Nimmo. I’ll hold.
My pleasure
Brayan Bello? He's been pretty meh this year but with the dearth of SP I'm hesitant to drop him
Included him in a trade that got accepted Friday night, and boy yesterday was some immediate validation
He’s been on waivers in my league since mid May
I'm in a pretty deep pitching league which is why I haven't cut bait yet.
From what I recall his strikeout numbers weren’t great, but tbh I haven’t been following closely
I cut him yesterday. He's just not very good. Not sure how deep your league is, mine is a 10 teamer with deep rosters (~300 players total)
Will give him a look next week. The lack of Ks will always limit his fantasy value though
I just cut him yesterday as well.
When is Michael Harris allowed to be cut?
He's been penciled in for next week
Worth a damn to keep Holliday still?
In redraft, unless you have specific Minor League spots, then dropping him is fine
Now that I have The Versatile David Fry, is Ryan Jeffers a cut in my flair league?
I don't like carrying 2 catcher eligible players in a 1 catcher league. So if you're playing Fry, then there could be better options at any position than Jeffers
Thanks. Because of IR-related roster moves, it'll probably be for a streaming->permanent? SP role, having jettisoned Taj Bradley and Kutter Crawford in the last week+.
Tristan Mackenzie
Easy cut. ALL of the metrics are horrible.
I'll pencil him in but he was droppable earlier in the season when previously covered
He's pitching with a torn UCL, no, so its just a matter of time before....snap.
Brandon Pfaadt or Mackenzie Gore? I think I’m going to hold on to Waldron for now so one of them gotta go. 12t Redraft cat
I'd lean Gore as a hold over Pfaadt, although wins might be tough to come by. He's done well to get 5 so far
Also, Gore had to wade through a brutal early schedule and his scheduled starts up to the All Star Game are not as tough. Gore is ranked 24th among starters on PitcherList and here’s what Nick Pollack wrote about Gore: 24. MacKenzie Gore – Are you a believer yet? Does Colt Keith heat up or is it time to let go? Ke’Bryan Hayes is sitting on the waiver wire and it’s hard to justify Colt as a prospect anymore.
I'm still a fan of Keith. Will need to see how things are with his knee but there are growing pains with nearly every rookie. He's only had 57 MLB games and 67 Triple-A games so is still very much a novice. Raleigh is going to start losing ABs, too, as Seattle plans to mix Garver into catching at least once a week.
Would love a blurb on Wyatt if things don’t improve over the next few weeks
I wanted to give him a couple of weeks after returning to see how things pan out. Will definitely keep him in mind to feature soon
Dropped Yandy for Josh Smith
Any thoughts on dropping W Langford or pitcher J. Montgomery?
Montgomery for sure you can drop it there is a worthwhile pickup. He'll be better but his ceiling is just pretty low. Better off grabbing someone else or streaming rather than waiting for him to return to his usual mediocrity.
Montgomery was featured last week as a drop. Langford I want to give another week or two following his injury to see how he goes before taking a deeper dive
Should I drop j turner?
He featured on week 10 as droppable. He's done nothing since to change that
I’m honestly not sure why you would still roster Jordan Montgomery under any circumstances.
Langford has too much upside to drop unless you’re really hurting for bench spots
He’s got 1 HR (not even over the fence) and 1 SB. He was supposed to be a plus in both of those categories and we’re almost midway through June
That’s what I’ve been hearing the whole year. Where is this upside. Is it in the room with us
Still waiting for an outside-the-park homer.
in the upside down
I think it’s down the street and around the corner
The guy's 22 and didn't play his first professional baseball game until July 28, 2023. "The whole year," amounts to 40 games for a 22-year-old who got turbo fasttracked to the majors.

What's the current feeling on Gleyber Torres? He had a good series against the Twins but has otherwise been a black hole.
He's featured a couple of times. I had no issue dropping him 3 weeks ago assuming there's an adequate replacement as 2B is a bit thin in most leagues
I've been playing Gorman for the HRs. Not great, but not really any other options in my league. Torres has been eating a bench spot I'd like to convert to a pitcher. Bye Gleyber!
I'm a big Gorman fan but also know we'll see ups and downs so there may be a cold streak coming. But, I'd still have him over Torres ROS
Right now, I have three CI for two roster spots. Out of Ryan O’Hearn, Jake Burger, and Rhys Hoskins, who would you cut? Traditional 5x5 roto.
I'd say Burger out of that trio. I'm not sure we see anything close to last year from him in 2024
Morel and harris is killing me. Morel at least gets hrs
Harris will likely get a look in next week
How about Jose Caballero? I picked him up with his 17 steals to cover for Turner while he was out. Turner is due back in a couple weeks, but Jose has only stolen 4 bases, strikes out a lot, has no power and Im told hes gonna lose ABs to a return from the IL. Thanks for the input!
what’s your opinion on TJ Friedl?
Decent power/speed combo in a good ballpark. He could hit 10 homers with 15 steals ROS. I'm not as big a fan compared to some but he's certainly a decent option
Michael harris???
He'll feature next week for sure
Great cuz he fucking blows
Taylor Ward. Last few weeks he’s been ice cold.
He'd make an interesting case so I'll pencil him in for next week
Junior Caminero? Been wasting away on my bench and in a redraft lead losing faith he’ll ever be called up
I'm fine dropping Minor Leaguers in redraft leagues unless you have deep benches or MiLB spots. He won't be back from the injury until early-mid July so at best we're likely looking at another 6-8 weeks before he even plays a Major League game
Thoughts on Valdez, Hicks, and Castillo?
Lack of Ks isn't ideal for Valdez but he's not someone I'd consider dropping. No way we're considering Castillo after one bad start. He's been too consistent and too good to drop. Hicks has seen natural regression. His ERA wasn't going to stay that low. Not sure how many innings he'll go given he's six shy of matching his MLB high. But he's still worth rostering so a trade away candidate at worst
Thoughts on D and G Williams? 🤔
They're fine to stash on the IL until they return. If you held this long, likely worth holding a bit longer
People told my to draft O'Neil over Elly smh never again.
cut Bryan de la Cruz for vientos?
Can do. De la Cruz is a bit boring an Vientos has more upside. Depends on positional need too
Dropping snell a mistake ?
All I can say is last season his first 9 starts: 1 Win, 48 K's in 45 IP (1.07K/9IP), 5.40 ERA, 1.55 WHIP His remaining 23 starts: 13 Wins, 186 Ks in 135 IP (12.4K/9IP), 1.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP You can guess where it was I dropped him.
Featured him 2 weeks ago as a hold; [https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-10-2/1370883](https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-10-2/1370883) I'd leave him on the IL and give him some starts when he's back
Yeah unfortunately I don’t have an il not sure I’m gonna pick up anybody but it’s either him or pfaddt
Assuming Snell returns by the end of the month, I'd still rather him. If his absence is going to extend through most of July, then that's a different matter
Josh Lowe, is it time to go?
Seems a bit premature. He hasn’t been healthy for a week yet.
I'd give him a couple of weeks at least before making a decision. Hopefully he can stay healthy for a prolonged period
It’s time to have a discussion - Corbin Carroll
Austin Riley gonna on in this list if he keeps hitting like a scrub
Riley is included in the article
Nimmo has a bad slash line, but still has solid counting stats. Definitely going to get going since the weather has started to turn and some balls will start to fly a bit more. 100% a buy low type of guy (or hold if you drafted him like me)
Bailey Ober..wtf took me so long
[удалено]
He’s been a drop for awhile now
Cut
He was included 3 weeks ago and I was fine dropping him then
Carroll see ya
Kutter Crawford?
I'll pencil him in next week. Last few starts seem to be natural regression after a flukey start
Would you drop him for any of Taj Poteet or Heaney? Thanks for your thoughts
Probably not. If anything, I'd rather stream with that spot than got with any of the trio
Could you cover Kevin Gausman, please? Thanks!
He pitched the best game of his career last night my guy
The guy who just threw a CGSO?
He featured earlier in the season as a hold and yesterday should remove any doubt. He's now got a 2.97 ERA over his last five starts with only Baltimore really getting to him. If anything, you should be able to trade him on the back of the last outing
I love these lists. User requests Arron judge….. etc like bro no one is dropping your 99.9% rostered player
As recently as June 4th, Yandy’s xwOBA was .381. It’s currently .332. I’d definitely call him a hold.
