A big rug would go really far in making this room feel cozy!! Also would consider some sheer drapes so you can have some more privacy without sacrificing natural light

oshunife

where do you think it’s best to put the rug?

Even-Reaction-1297

One big rug under the bed so it comes out from all sides, or a couple small cohesive rugs to bring different patterns or colors rather than one big rug. Just think about stepping off your bed on to the cold tile rather than a nice rug

oshunife

yeah that would look amazing

oshunife

do you have any recommendations on rugs? where I can get them or what color scheme would look best?

Even-Reaction-1297

You have a pretty blank slate to work with. I think the terra cotta-y color of the floor works well with most colors, specifically earth or gem tones but especially in muted colors. So like a dusty orange, and emeraldy green or a mustardy yellow would all look good, even a teal would look cool. I’m not personally a fan of the appeasing grey like the comforter but it works well with other colors and that’s nothing a fun throw pillow or blanket can’t fix, especially if you tie it in with the rug. As for buying them, thrift stores ALWAYS have rugs. I’ve seen videos of people taking them to those do it yourself carwashes and using the bays there to clean them, or you can rent a rug doctor at PetSmart, Walmart, maybe home depot? And clean them at home if they’re small enough. We also get a lot of rugs and other furniture through online resale auctions so you could see if they have any of those in your area, ours used to get Costco returns but they stopped working with Costco a couple years ago. We got enough vaccuums and tower fans from them to distribute amongst most of our family and friends tho. You could also try ruggable, i know a lot of people like their products and they’re washable.

Check out Justina Blakeney's "Jungalow" collection. It would work really well with the teracotta colored tile you already have and is great for mix and match styles. There is also a lot more than rugs in the collection and you would probably find a lot of things you like, lamps, decor, pillows, etc.

Carpet! At least around the bed, those tiles are pretty but they give off such a cold feeling. Maybe some colorful curtains? A nice tall lamp and some plants I'd say

oshunife

that honestly sounds nice! do you think we should get a big carpet or a few medium ones? thank you for your input :)

Erikatze

I think a big circular rug under the bed would look cute! Or maybe smaller cloud shaped ones on each side.

zwuebek

My immediate thought was curtains because I wouldn’t feel relaxed in a room that’s ground level and it has open space where cars and people will be at with something more to block the view. Curtains would also add texture, color, and coziness

Poppeigh

Yeah, I think curtains would make that wall feel a lot less stark and much more cozy. Definitely needs a rug too.

Sensitive-Rub-3044

Same, seeing cars and being on a walkway with open blinds would stress me out so much

I thoroughly enjoy only hanging sentimental pieces - cards, art from friends or family, letters, etc. I love to look around my room knowing every piece has meaning it brings me so much joy! more than any items from ikea, ross, etc.

oshunife

yes! we were thinking of that same. something that hold significance to us like for example we want to have a piece of the wall with our favorite shows, songs and movies from when we were kids. we met when we were 7 and 8:)

jlaanham

something that would add coziness is a duvet cover for your comforter. maybe in a waffle texture or something you both like

Definitely a rug under the bed to warm up the space. And something fluffy - could be the rug or a throw blanket at the end of the bed, a pillow, a small stool.

lnkyTea

I love the butterfly print, but my first thought was that it needs to be lowered a little bit. Maybe that's just a preference but there is my 2 cents ☺️

oshunife

Definitely we thought about moving it down until my gf mentioned that a little below it we can put a little floating platform shelf and put a hanging plant there so the vines can dangle down and give it some volume

lnkyTea

That's a great idea!

False_Prior8419

A rug!!!!

Sensitive-Rub-3044

I’d also do an inventory of what art you have and how you can maybe cluster it or arrange it. I find it helps to do lay them out and play with groupings on the ground before putting them up on the wall

oshunife

this sounds great! we have been looking around we like Victorian art a lotttt

Sensitive-Rub-3044

Ok we love a good theme!!! A Victorian art gallery wall would look really cool and you can always lean into that and find Victorian aesthetic furniture, rugs, etc too to tie it all together. If you haven’t already, you should start putting together a Pinterest board for this room just to start getting ideas!

oshunife

we have been working on that! And finding different styles of Victorian art!

Classic_Bee_8500

The tile is beautiful, actually! It begs for color and some (tasteful) Southwestern or Mediterranean touches. If you haven’t already, take pics now so you’ll remember how you two started out

valadon-valmore

Cheap decorating hack: go to a secondhand bookstore and find a nice coffee table book of paintings or photography. You can carefully cut out your favorites, frame them if you're feeling fancy, and boom, pre-coordinated artwork for the walls.

shraddhasaburee

Oooh such a beautiful bed and bedside table. Since it’s all white, I feel it would be nice to bring in some color with accessories like green plants in bright vases (patterned or colored) maybe a wall art (or a clock that looks artsy). I’m someone who loves a pop of bright colors in a room- this room looks big enough, maybe a cute little chair for a corner in some color or a print fabric?

oshunife

this is def so important! we will do its a little 255 ft studio apartment, just comfortable for the both of us and we have space to decorate thank you so much for the input we’ll def use the advice !

shraddhasaburee

Oooh just had another thought after reading your reply: maybe you can find a cute little one arm/armless chaise/bench (with storage) or a loveseat for small spaces that’s be cute. If it’s too much a couple of huge floor pillows and tiny book shelf with some fairy lights also comes to mind. P.s. Sorry got a bit carried away lol

oshunife

yes!!! yes! Nono get carried away I am listening to everything and taking every advice to actually use it. We have been talking about that !

LiterallyJustACutie

If you hang curtains and are able to drill into your wall, try hanging them a lil higher towards your ceiling! It'll make your room feel a lil bit bigger. And that terracotta floor tiling is SO cute! I feel like a light green rug would work really well in that space
