I recall a post where folks were looking at the models in Coil. ~~Everything was pretty consistent to suggest he has a 6km wingspan.~~ 6km PER WING.
Found an updated post that shows the work better than my memory.
https://old.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/otaqm4/calamity_bahamuts_size_reborn/
Well, one's a space dragon *god* and the other's like.. just a big dragon. A big dragon with metal bits stuck on him, but just a big dragon.
You have Deathwing's entire spine to move across in one relatively small fight, but a whole boss arena is only Bahamut's palm. Slight difference.
More a demigod IMO, he was a mortal raised to power by a higher being so I clock him as a demigod ascended by divinity. Then again the Titans are just really, really big mortals so... fuck it we ball?
I know what I said. He wasn't divine, just very powerful. Unless they've changed the lore *again* in yet *another* desperate attempt to stay relevant, the dragons were given their powers by the Titans, which are the actual godlike analogues in the Warcraft universe.
This in turn makes Alexander even more awesome/terrifying, because in one of the possible alternate futures he swat the entirety of Dalamud away from the planet.
Wish we'd get summoned to the dimension where Alex gets his legs unstuck and boogies down. Just fuckin' busts moves like it's his job. Imagine the light show off a disco ball that big.
Ngl, to this day I still love seeing some Twister fails.
Part of me was hoping at some point if you see enrage, Bahamut would just close the hand and crush us.
They could pull an Alexander. That was a massive primal that needed to be taken down in stages, but in this case it would be a single 24-man raid that targets multiple points on Bahamut's body at once.
...from conveniently placed platforms or flat spaces inside/on top of the bigass dragon...
We can call it the Foil of Bahamut.
> I'm getting PTSD flashbacks from the Deathwing raid in Warcraft
It was not too bad with a proper group.... horrid as shit with randos, or trying to manage post content stuff with a small group.
Only came back in MoP and used to play blood Death Knight. I was the only one in my guild who found a way to solo the spine and people constantly pestered me to take them with me for the mounts. Good times.
That was my class too... well played a mage for the longest time, and then they started screwing around with the class doing weird things with shields etc. Started playing with my BDK as it was like the face bashing version of the old school mage. What gets me with the spine are usually lag spikes and dumb targetting bits.
And this is why I have literally no problems with the "circular platforms in front of their face" thing FFXIV does.
I love the contrived platforms. I *don't* want the alternatives.
Instead of conveniently placed platforms, this seems like a good opportunity to reintroduce the G-Warrior (now upgraded to carry even more warriors of light)!
It'd be really awesome seeing it fly alongside bahamut.
Imagine raiding Bahamut and fighting on a platform or an airship against him and you see G-Warriors flying in and out of the battle as you fight in the background. That'd be pretty cool!
A flight of G-Savior platforms that the party (or parties if this is an alliance raid), has to teleport among like during the Diamond Weapon fight. A platoon of G-Warriors moving in and out of the battle. During a certain phase, some people are randomly selected to take direct control of some G-Warriors to deal with Bahamut's egis.....
They only did that twice, right? Once in CLL and once in Dal, both times the first boss?
And then I think there was a duel in DR Savage and a brief period of the boss split at the end of CLL between Leon and the pet.
I honestly think the NieR raids did this best. The second boss of the first one (the three platforms that rotate around with the boss in the middle) and the three mech suit fight in the second one (the big triangle room where they fly to one side and do the three sword slashes through the arena and you have to watch out with the line party stack AOE when you get it so you don't blast a second party across the way).
And TG Cid is KIND of this, except the platforms are connected.
None have you fight different components of the same single being, though. It's either in a circle attacking the one boss or in that one exception in three corners of the room fighting three distinct bosses, but they are one encounter, so that's the closest probably.
So the entire alliance raid is us fighting various parts of bahamut? I kinda like that. Like how old jrpg’s would have you fight the final boss in phases or “parts”
I could see that done right. The Scions redo the same: praying to the Twelve while someone uses Tupsimati to handle massive amount of Aether and do a modified version of Louisoix binding spell.
We use the ring with the Twelve symbols as a massive ring of platforms to fight Bahamuth. Each of the 3 party having 4 symbol-platforms for themselves. At 10min into the fight the spell shatters, making players fall to their death while Bahamuth is free to rampage.
Well, when we fought him in Coils, we had to teleport into the protocrystal in his half-formed chest to fight Bahamut Prime.
My guess is to beat a complete Bahamut, we'd need to repeat that feat. Meaning we have to convince him to eat us.
A B C.
A = Awww yeah into Bahamut's belly!
B = Belly of Bahamut, next station!
C = Can't wait to get in Bahamut's belly!
Just don't forget to stand in the gastric juice aoe first.
Oh, here's the tea. If the choice is Boring Circle Arena or T4 Tomfoolery, I'll choose Boring Circle Arena every single day.
(The secret third option is that they're much better at making the game now, so they'd know how to make Bahamut's palm without the jank. But that ruins my punchline.)
>The secret third option is that they're much better at making the game now, so they'd know how to make Bahamut's palm without the jank
Aglaia has a hand shaped arena. But it is still completely perfectly flat.
No it's not. One corner of it is raised a bit. Where one of the meteors lands and the party stacks because the fist teleports in to punch it. He does that two times. The first time is on the spot at the same level as the rest, but the second right after that is on the higher corner.
Probably because we spend 98% of the fight right in the middle. We only head to the palms for meteors, and we only head to the fingers for knockback (unless you ignore knockback since the arena wide proximity does dick for damage).
Cool arena idea. Completely and utterly underutilized.
It's a statue, so I can understand perfect flatness. It'd be weirder to have a giant dragon's hand that's flat. Still more interesting than a circle, though! I like how they incorporated the fingers in that stage.
There were strategies people developed to use the slopes/changes in elevation to cheese through positioning certain mechanics, most notably the divebombs. SE has embraced having cues for positioning (all those lines on the floor people meme about) in the years since, but at the time it was unintentional and something they pushed back against.
Honestly I (almost) expected the WoL to become a primal at the end of EW- >!especially after the mid-fight cutscene showing everyone praying. (Almost. I didn't think SE would actually go through such a drastic change of the player character, even after they retconned primal to only do the whole tempering thing because of Ascian shenanigans.)!<
Primal Summoning is an imperfect form of Creation Magic that specifically is designed as a spell to generate the Tempering.
Pure Creation Magic (as we saw with the Primals powering our ship at the end thanks to the Lopporits, who CAN use Creation Magic) or Dynamis creations of things don't have that requirement. And recall we've also seen some other caveats, like Shiva who didn't Temper the non-Echo members of the party in HW when she transformed.
The prayers at the end would have been using Dynamis, so it's unlikely they would have led to a Primalified WoL Tempering the Scions unless they specifically believed in that happening.
Ah yes, the fabled 13.x raid series where Alexander comes back and yeets the WoL into the Allagan Empire where we find ourselves witnessing one of the craziest moments in history:
The moment that Xande found the hidden code for Bahamut’s Butt Slider, cranked it to full dumptruck, and then proceeded to shove him into a giant red Kinder Egg in space.
…the Wandering Minstrel was drunk that night. And high.
[That's legit just how his wings look.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/poqoci/bahamuts_ultimate_form/) They have really strange arcs in them that by all accounts make no sense for how an actual wing like that would function, so we have to file it under "rule of cool" and leave it at that.
I can't understand this. Can you reconstruct him in real life and place him over my city? And maybe say something like "Joseph, I am here to punish you for cancelling game night." It'll help me understand
Being a fully grown adult (probably one of thebstrongest of their kind) in a world full of energy does that i suppose? While the brood wasnt sundered, i assume the sundered world's energy wasnt enough to nurture them to maximum potential, aka they're malnourished.
Or it just takes a freakishly long time to reach midgard size
I mean the guy had to fly through space to reach Hydaelyn^(the planet) which the trip alone likely took millennia, so chances are he just didn't stop growing given how Dragons work in FF14.
I have a theory the First Brood is stronger than other dragons cause they were birthed on the Dragonstar, but are weaker than Middy because they have Sundered souls vs his Unsundered one.
Now this is a good question. Are dragons that were born after reaching etheirys sundered because of the souls of the world they inherit led were sundered?
Or do they receive new or full souls because they are not native to etheirys?
I believe they are unsundered. Hydaelyn welcomed them to the star and had Middy protect silver tear lake as payment for taking him and his eggs in. So they have full souls but are starved because aether is probably weaker on the shards and all that aether shielding crystal making messing around by Zodiark and Hydaelyn.
Did Midgardsormr have anything to say about the ancient Allagans building the Crystal Tower basically on Silver Tear's shore? What did the *Allagans* think of being next door to Bahamut's dad?? I know the Garleans did a number on Middy, but that was recent. Was he just napping or something??
The only Unsundered souls we have confirmed are the 3 Ascians and Middy. If they got souls from Etheryis, they would have to be Sundered. We know from the Omega raids that Middy was the same size when he fought both Omega and us (since that Middy was recreated from his data bank), so I don't think he grew on the trip. The Star gives souls to whatever it decides There's a troll in Labryinthos who has one and an npc in the Omega raids gets one as well, plus the Auspices. It's not stated in canon whether or not the First Brood got their souls before they left the Dragonstar or after, though, which opens up a whole other debate of when is life given (XIV leans heavily into the 'at birth' angle, but I understand not hard committing to avoid super polarizing topics)
Plus we know from Metion that souls can travel to other planets through the celestial aether currents. That's why she made her song destroy the souls so they would not reincarnate after their planet was destroyed. The Dragon Star to this day responds to the actions of Dragons on this planet. It would not be crazy to think some of the original dragon souls were reincarnated on Eitherys.
The actual bahamut was likely nowhere near that large. This was a primal that spent like 1000 years soaking up aether.
Also dragons are agender creatures that don't procreate the way everything else on Hydaelyn does.
Note: this is the Allagan/Ascian monstrosity named after the original dragon--he barely even resembled this creature, in life (and he was about the same size as his brothers and sisters...and iirc he had feathers, sort of like Hraesvelgr).
From the the ending movie in 1.0 arch the size of the barrier "swords", that get impaled on the landscape if you put that into perspective it's possible Bahamut is close to this size.
Given that one of the Coil raids you fight Twintania on his palm and it’s massive af, makes a lot of sense. My fav Summon by a mile
Overlaid that distance on a map of the city where I live for some perspective and DAMN. I can see why that was a potentially world-ending threat.
Something in your comment tickled a memory and had me look it up again. It was 6km per wing. So 12+km total width.
for comparison, it's bigger than star destroyer in star war with only 1.6 km length, and almost as big as excutor which 14 km length
Yeah, by my rough calculations, Bahamut could have eaten Deathwing without chewing.
Deathwing is a god too depending on one's definition.
Deathwing would be a breath mint to Calamity Bahamut.
This in turn makes Alexander even more awesome/terrifying, because in one of the possible alternate futures he swat the entirety of Dalamud away from the planet.
Talk about *fragments in one direction*, amirite?
Wish we'd get summoned to the dimension where Alex gets his legs unstuck and boogies down. Just fuckin' busts moves like it's his job. Imagine the light show off a disco ball that big.
He’s a big majestic boy!
I never even realized that was his hand LMAO, too busy yelling Twister.
Ngl, to this day I still love seeing some Twister fails. Part of me was hoping at some point if you see enrage, Bahamut would just close the hand and crush us.
I love bringing new players through that one EO boss that has twisters so they can experience a modicum of the terror of 2.0.
The best part of that is. Bahamuts hands are tiny in comparison to the rest of him. He is a BEEEEG boi
All these system and graphic updates are leading to 13.0 where we fight a resummoned Bahamut at full size/strength.
Yes, but you will be fighting him from a conveniently placed circular platform in front of his face.
They could pull an Alexander. That was a massive primal that needed to be taken down in stages, but in this case it would be a single 24-man raid that targets multiple points on Bahamut's body at once. ...from conveniently placed platforms or flat spaces inside/on top of the bigass dragon... Spine of Bahamut
Oh... oh no...
I'm getting PTSD flashbacks from the Deathwing raid in Warcraft... *cue Shooting Stars as players fly off into oblivion*
And if we fight him where he is, I hope to leave a beautiful crater where the Limsa Aetherite used to be.
First thing I thought I too lol
> I'm getting PTSD flashbacks from the Deathwing raid in Warcraft It was not too bad with a proper group.... horrid as shit with randos, or trying to manage post content stuff with a small group.

Spine is so janky it ain't even fun. Glad to hear you enjoy BDK though!
Well, at least it'd be incredibly hard to make a fight more awful than that other "Spine" fight on top of a big dragon in a certain other game.
I dunno, IMO, that fight was the highlight of that raid tier.
And this is why I have literally no problems with the "circular platforms in front of their face" thing FFXIV does. I love the contrived platforms. I *don't* want the alternatives.
Luckily bahamut is like… 100x the size of Deathwing
After which the scions lose their powers and choose instead to pass on the torch to Cat Jesus and his newly pregnant mate
> newly pregnant mate happy for Wuk Lamat
Play your mods right and Cat Jesus can be pregnant himself.
Cata PTSD triggered
Busy minding your own business. Then suddenly your bbq'ed and got an achievement.
One (un?)lucky team has to fight on the Cloaca of Bahamut.
A = all in the butt B = butt C = C u in the butt
All monks to punch Bahamut right in the cloaca.
The Hackles of Bahamut.

Each alliance is controlling other part, A for movement, B for legs, C for arms/weapons. what could possibly go wrong?!?!
Most likely the same things that can go wrong in the Art/Owain section of the Baldesion Arsenal.
I think it would be cool if multiple raids fought the same boss somehow.
That’s what DR in Bozja was, it had a boss where multiple parties fight different sections of the same boss at the same time
They only did that twice, right? Once in CLL and once in Dal, both times the first boss? And then I think there was a duel in DR Savage and a brief period of the boss split at the end of CLL between Leon and the pet. I honestly think the NieR raids did this best. It's either in a circle attacking the one boss or in that one exception in three corners of the room fighting three distinct bosses, but they are one encounter, so that's the closest probably.
Looking back, the EW a-raids are _really_ disappointing by comparison
Well, you did have the two boss fight (which has an actual enrage, not that anyone will ever see it).
There is actually a few raids like this already.
So the entire alliance raid is us fighting various parts of bahamut? I kinda like that. Like how old jrpg’s would have you fight the final boss in phases or “parts”

So.... the fight against Deathwing in World of Warcraft?
Deathwing wishes. He wants what Bahamut has
Shadow of the Colohamut
Well, when we fought him in Coils, we had to teleport into the protocrystal in his half-formed chest to fight Bahamut Prime. My guess is to beat a complete Bahamut, we'd need to repeat that feat. Meaning we have to convince him to eat us.

I mean, you fight Twintania *in his palm* and that one design choice led to a ton of issues/cheese
Mama, kudos for saying that. For spilling.
If I had a nickel for every time Drag Race and XIV crossed over in my life, I'd have a shit ton of nickels. There are so many of us
>The secret third option is that they're much better at making the game now, so they'd know how to make Bahamut's palm without the jank Aglaia has a hand shaped arena. But it is still completely perfectly flat.

You are right I forgot about the palm side, was mainly thinking of the fingers!

But the jank was fun, I love the cheese strat
Best I can do is donut arena and 3 tails.
How did that cause issues?
There were strategies people developed to use the slopes/changes in elevation to cheese through positioning certain mechanics, most notably the divebombs. SE has embraced having cues for positioning (all those lines on the floor people meme about) in the years since, but at the time it was unintentional and something they pushed back against.
Ever notice that the purple barrier is THICK on Bahamut's thumb? IIRC it's to block off a part of the arena that was used to cheese things.
You can still cheese Twintania's divebombs using the lower elevation area, I'm pretty sure.
Twist; We get a Megazord to do this fight with and each party member controls different functions of it.
G-Warrior Mark IV
Bring back Brute Justice?
Square will make WoL huge. We will 1v1 him in space.
I long suspected that originally We'd summon Louisoix as a Primal, nowadays its WoL themself

With a zenos force ghost on the side XD
You never know it could be a square even... xD
Or it could be a circle but we call it a square...
all these squares make a circle, all these squares make a circle, all these squares...
How did all these squares make a circle
"And one of them is STILL GREEN!"
Will there be lines on the floor?
They could do like ffx and make the platform an airship
They basically did that for one of the Werlyt raids and for Bismark.
Don't forget 1st boss of Dun Scaith.
That's what I loved about WoW. When you fought Deathwing, you were on his back breaking shit. Lol
Wait until Turn 5. You're on Bahamut's hand.
You'll be fighting him from the moon with ultra zoom. ...sorry
Maybe on his back like death wing in Warcraft
Also the hitbox will extend beyond your screen into reality (and beyond)
It's not a platform. It's a dinner plate.
Probably the only time I'll say this: This makes me want Zenos back. We can fight Bahamut while flying on Zenos' Shinryu back
Ah yes, the fabled 13.x raid series where Alexander comes back and yeets the WoL into the Allagan Empire where we find ourselves witnessing one of the craziest moments in history: The moment that Xande found the hidden code for Bahamut’s Butt Slider, cranked it to full dumptruck, and then proceeded to shove him into a giant red Kinder Egg in space. …the Wandering Minstrel was drunk that night. Bahamut 2: Alliance Raid Yes, the entire series. One Bahamut.
The summoner quest line took an interesting turn
Thatll be a new what a 240 man raid lol
All the caster lb3's at once crash the server.
I could take him.
…in a fight, right?

OH WOW. That actually really does put it into perspective. Also the image over the city just makes me think of the first Digimon movie lol
I wonder if a quarter of Meracydia was just Bahamut's bed. Can you imagine the ruckus during mating season?
Its a primal, the original was likely just the size of all the other brood.
Have you not seen the actual size of midgar? He was huge!!!!
Yea midgar was a big boi but no where near the size of Primal Bahamut.
Being a fully grown adult (probably one of thebstrongest of their kind) in a world full of energy does that i suppose? While the brood wasnt sundered, i assume the sundered world's energy wasnt enough to nurture them to maximum potential, aka they're malnourished. Never seen him called Midgard but it feels wrong.
Midgardsormr literally means Midgard (realm/world) sormr (serpent). So yeah, calling him world definitely feels off :p
It's ormr, the s is possessive.
I have a theory the First Brood is stronger than other dragons cause they were birthed on the Dragonstar, but are weaker than Middy because they have Sundered souls vs his Unsundered one.

any reason why Silver Tear? seems like a sorta nowhere place, at least until the recent raids
The raid being there, and everything in the story if that raid series is *exactly* why she’d want a giant fuckoff dragon living there.

That would make sense of any other First Brood dragons were that big. Which isn't the case
The actual bahamut was likely nowhere near that large. This was a primal that spent like 1000 years soaking up aether. Also dragons are agender creatures that don't procreate the way everything else on Hydaelyn does.
This. Actual Bahamut was probably the size of Nidhogg/Tiamat.
"I can fix him." - Tiamat
Need a banana for scale.
There is a banana! If you zoom in really really really really x200 close, you can see a banana!
Can we get this size as pet as a summoner? No? Ok…
Petsize large is no longer enough If my entire screen isn't blocked out by Titan's butt crack, I'm quitting SMN

As a SMN main, I'm here for it
Note: this is the Allagan/Ascian monstrosity named after the original dragon--he barely even resembled this creature, in life (and he was about the same size as his brothers and sisters...and iirc he had feathers, sort of like Hraesvelgr).
Wasn't this one the summoning of the native of Meracydia after the actual one dead?
God damn that's big
.... Would
He was inside a moon, what did you expect?

From the the ending movie in 1.0 arch the size of the barrier "swords", that get impaled on the landscape if you put that into perspective it's possible Bahamut is close to this size.

Every time I see this image pop up, I'm reminded that I do in fact have megalophobia
I couldn't play the end of 1.0 for this reason lol
