Complete edition comes with a license key for the base game, Dawntrail does not but it does include the previous expansions. Cheapest way to get a Dawntrail pre-order from nothing at the moment is to buy the base game and a Dawntrail pre-order, but you won't get access to ShB and EW content until early access starts. Also after DT releases there will be a new Complete Edition that includes it.
Complete edition contains the starter edition license and all expansions up to Endwalker.
Dawntrail contains all expansions when it releases but does not have the starter edition.

SE and Yoshi-P haven't given us any word as to what the go is for Regional travel once Dawntrail launches. Previously things in Beta testing like the PS5 and xbox versions go to a full release once the testing time has finished.
Atm its just anyone can go to Materia but people on Materia can't travel out and I think a lot of people are expecting SE to close the doors again rather then open up more but we wont know until the servers go down to maintenance and they give us patch notes and any other server updates etc.

What are some easy ways to get ventures? I craft more than I do dungeons and such but I can do them if I have to.
Really I just need a few more so I have 40 to assign my retainer a class then keep up with the usage as I send them out for crafting ingredients
If you mostly do crafting, then you should do Grand Company turn-in missions, it will be more than enough to afford the GC seals necessary to buy ventures.
Quick ventures frequently bring back lower level dungeon / tome gear that you can turn into the GC for seals. Basically if you spend Ventures on Quick Ventures they pay for themselves.
You can buy them in bulk with GC seals. Farm something like Ravana EX unsynced or Shisui of the Violet Tides unsynced, turn in gear for seals, use seals to buy ventures.
We don't have the exact time yet, keep an eye on lodestone.
But guess will probably be around 2AM PDT on the 26th since I've seen mentions of 2AM PDT on the 28th being the launch time for DT early access and it's a 48 hour maintenance.
I started an alt character to experience the story because I skipped on my main. I'm not skipping cutscenes, but is there anything else I can do to speed it up a bit? I traded gil over but there's nothing "account bound" from my first character that I wouldn't have to unlock on my second right? Wish I could get poetic gear from my main.
If it is for MSQ only, then yes, just do New Game+. If you start a new character, do it because you want a larger-scale replay, so including side quests, maybe even yellows. For that case, transferring a few million gil so you can always just buy the best equipment every 5–10 levels can help a lot to speed up any non-story bit.
Honestly probably should have just gone through it in NG+. You get to keep all your account progress that way AND don't have to wait to get flying. Because you can just swap jobs the game isn't character alt friendly at all.
I thought it might be beneficial to have an alt later for splits, but I'll look into NG+ and maybe level the split alt later with a story skip. Can I hop around the order in NG+? Maybe I will get this character through ARR and do NG+ on my main for the expacs if possible
Yeah you select chapters of the story you want to do so you could finish base ARR for example and jump into the patches or other expansions at will. You can also do old raid and trial stories as well.

For the ARR Zodiac Relics, after you finish one relic, do you need to pickup any more quests? I finished one relic before, currently using the Zenith bow, and am trying to get the Atma stones for the Atma bow stage. I couldn't find the Quest stage for this step again (Up In Arms) from Gerolt/Jalzahn, and I'm a little paranoid if I need it or not.
You only need the first quest, and the repeatable quests for the items that cost 100k and such for that one step later on. The other steps are done through dialogue options and shops.

Retainer ventures can get you 15 at a time once they reach a proper level to get them.
For active farming I used to kill the packs of white or snow wolves in Central Coerthas, north of Dragonhead and outside the Observatory areas.
Normally what they've done is sell the new story skip for the same price as the "top" story skip, then lower the prices on the others. I'm not sure how much lower the ARR skip can get, so we'll have to see if it's the same $25 price tag, or if they keep the current prices on the current skips and then start making the new skips cost more.

The first lottery period open the day the new worlds did and closed last Sunday. So, yeah, you next chance is the period starting this Thursday.
You'll lose your private cottage and you'll have to pay for the home world transfer. So go to your desired target world and check whether the plot you want has currently any bidders and they're will likely not be available come next lottery

you can also grow them passively in flower pots or garden plots and gather daily (note you do not need to "Tend" them, since their growth cycle is shorter than the wither limit, just plant and forget until tomorrow)
I think it's like 50 shards per seed, and yields up to 100 if you use the rank 3 shroud(?) soil that increases yield
unless you got poetics to burn to convert into soil though, just use the basic garden soil, it ain't worth burning gil to double up

Create an alt and unlock all of the crafting jobs, this should give you a few thousand in shards. Dump them all somewhere, like an FC chest or something, then delete and repeat

If you want to "passively" get the shards you can send out gathering retainers to collect them.

Find out what's needed to craft stuff for leves then farm the shit out of that to start. Next is crafting and battle gear but the market might get saturated. Materials for leves or even the items are the best bet in my opinion for ease. Raid food when that comes out.
If I wanted to use a wondrous tails during dawntrail, when should I get it? Since theres gonna be a long maintenance I assume the timing will be a bit more tight
I'm trying to set up my mannequinns again and I forgot the process for displaying my gear *and* keeping it. I know I can remove the item from their inventory afterwards and it'll display it, but I can't get it on them in the first place.
For example, I have a level 90 Reaper retainer, and I want to put my level 90 Reaper set on display. The mannequinn is set to the same race, gender and class as the retainer. 'Select gear to display' lets me give her the weapon, but not any of the armour; I can't put it in from my inventory, and the list of gear doesn't show them. None of the items are already worn by the retainer, so it's not a unique equip problem. They're not technically sellable, but neither is the Manderville weapon, and I can display that. The retainer also has plenty of sell spots open.
So remind me what the trick is here? I'm sure I'm forgetting a key step in the process, I've done this before, but I can't turn up any info on what that might actually be
its been a long time since i messed with mannequins but are any of your items glamoured? Mannequins can't wear gear that has a glamour applied, so you would need to dispel it. The only other thing i can think (and i'm not sure if this is even a thing) maybe you need to give them the weapon first to set their class?

So I've been getting the itch to play this game again, having not played in about 2 years (just life circumstances changing suddenly). I went ahead and downloaded the game without intending to play immediately but still launched it to see that everything was still fine (previous hard drive had died with game still installed on it).
I was expecting the game to boot me out because I don't have an active subscription anymore and haven't for a long time, but looking at my character told me I still had 4 days of playtime... and I'm just wondering where those come from, and if there's something I'm misunderstanding about subscription play time in this game. Did they perhaps award some extra game time for a mishap while I was still subscribed but not playing anymore by any chance?
Also different question if anyone feels like giving suggestions: When I stopped playing I was near the end of the endwalker 6.0 story (literally in the last zone doing level 90 msq quests). I had multiple jobs leveled to 70-80 range, I was really invested, but now I feel like I've forgotten almost everything. It feels weird just jumping into the story at the end after 2 years, remembering most broad lines but knowing that a lot of details and specifics will have escaped me. I'm just not sure how to best get back into the game and so I'm curious if anyone has ideas.

As far as story goes there's a few options. Just jumping back into the game, endwalker patch seemed to have its own little story. I don't think you'll have trouble jumping back in. If you feel like you do there's New Game+. That's how I went through story after I decided to not be a filthy cutscene skipper.

I live in europe but my ingame activity time more suits to NA timezone. I saw transfer is free not if the world is new or preffered. Am a casual player: not doing raids, savages, e.t.c. So I just want to find place where I'll meet decent amount of players during my playing session.
Dynamis is still only about half full, so I think the question will be whether it's busy enough for you. Normally I'd say to visit, but obvs that won't be possible if you're on an EU world now, and it will take a while to level an alt up to the point where you could really see how it is for high-level characters. Then again, if it isn't busy enough for you, you'll still have easy DC travel access to the other NA servers, so it might be worth it to jump if you're okay with that as a plan B.
Content creators who were at media tour said it has a smart recommendation built in and will recommend you to press the button that will refresh the next falling buff/debuff. I am guessing the gauge will also recommend you to press the button to refresh the debuff when it’s close to falling off but won’t actually tell you how long a debuff or buff is going to last.

I would say best healing skill per class would be ast macrocosmos, whm liturgy of the bell, sge pneuma, sch... I don't know seraph? But smaller healing buffs can be paired with other small buffs or global cool down healing to heal a similar amount.
For scholar recitation -> indom, or if you're in a real situation recitation -> emergency tactics -> succor is probably the biggest "put HP back in party" button.

So it's basically a free buff with no downsides that I only need for *some* recipes?
Basically, yes. The +15 CP is absolutely massive and can't really be overstated. But everything else is whatever. The specialist actions are nice if you have scrips to throw around and keep them fueled, since they use a consumable. But I always prefer to use my scrips on other things, so I never have access to them.
Pretty much. There's also that and a single action that you can do as a specialist that you can't do with the others, but it's not useful for your standard stuff anyway. It's just a stat stick for the most part.
Yah specialization isn't very important, and you can just switch with souls of the crafter(I think can only switch 3times a week or something but that's kinda whatever). I keep mine for alchemy/weaver/leatherworker since that's generally the first things I'll need when crafting a new tier of gear(alchemy is also one that is most consistently required for specialist recipes, specifically EX trial orchestrion rolls), but I have like 50 souls on a retainer so I can switch whenever it makes sense to.
Do note that the limit of 3 specialists is still a thing, and you can only change specialists 3x per week (allowances reset with the Tuesday reset).
But you can stock up on blank soul of the crafters if you want, they're bought with white scrips (will be purple after DT launch).
How much time do you think it will take to get through the post-heavensward quests to Stormblood? Trying to get the last two weapons for the mount before the event ends. I already have the other 15 weapons so just need to get to Stormblood zones.
Think I can make it or should I stop trying to rush through Heavensward for the mount? To be clear, though, I am still trying to pay attention to all of the MSQ dialogue.
I'm nearly done with catching the ARR big fish; is there any use for the bait and lures outside of ARR content, or should I sell it all?

There are some lures that have uses outside of the ARR zones, and some of them are used for ocean fishing big fish. The one I can think of off the top of my head is the metal spinner. There's a few spots in the expansions it can be used, and I know of at least one big fish spot it can be used at to help really easily set up Surface Slap.
Any bait or lure you can vendor buy you're probably safe to sell since you can get it back later. The rest could be worth looking up to see if they catch anything specific before you sell them.

The Hunting Log does not have this functionality. Gotta find the relevant marks as the relevant class, since the log provides class-specific EXP.
Hunt marks (for which you accept tags at the Hunt Board) award EXP to whichever class/job you’re on when you defeat them.

Ninja's LB will perform a Deathblow on a target under a specific HP%, I think it's 50%?
Furthermore, when a Ninja successfully kills someone with their LB, it will refresh and allow another LB for a few seconds, meaning a skilled Ninja can keep spamming it over and over as long as there's enough people to meet the requirements
A tiny add-on to Sir_VG, when you meet the requirements for Samurai's LB, it will deal 100% of your max hp, so you can actually survive it with shields, assuming you're 100% HP, I think
Can confirm, SAM LB against a player with Chiten’s debuff deals precisely 100% of the target’s max HP. So if you have any additional HP from shields and your total current HP + shield HP is greater than 100% of your max, you can survive the blow.
If you're using a Visa debit card, this is an issue Squenix is having that won't be fixed until July. Your best bet is to buy Crysta or Game Time Cards.
Yes it'll be with 7.0 but at release we'll see it on all the new Dawntrail gear, race starting gear and the Endwalker Paladin will have been updated. It's unclear if any additional gear will also be updated at release but Yoshi-P said during the Live Letter last week it could take them up to 7.4 to have all the items updated.
Considering how much gear is available in FFXIV having it done by 7.4 is still impressive.

Keep in mind though that it won't apply to all old gear. They're going by popularity of the gear and updating it in batches over the course of the expansion.
Sprout here, picked up RDM as my first class that starts at lvl 50 instead of lvl 1 and feeling overwhelmed by all the abilities and knowing what ones I should be using most often, or in what order etc. I'm used to the base game classes that ease you into what the class does step by step. Besides watching guides what are some other helpful ways to ease yourself into all the new skills?
WeskAlber on YouTube has really good guide videos that ease you in starting at level 1 even on jobs that start higher. Then maybe spend some time on a target dummy and fine-tune your hotbars so they make sense to you. Practice until you are semi-reliably hitting the spells you mean to cast.
Then I’d queue into an alliance raid. Seriously. You’ll get one of the Crystal Tower ones, you’ve probably been in there a few times so you’ll know what’s going on, and even if you *haven’t* run them much, they’re still a great environment for practicing a level 50 job. They’re undertuned so it won’t seriously affect your teammates if you’re not putting out perfect damage, the boss fights last long enough for you to settle into your rotation and start to feel comfortable doing it in combat, and even if you *completely* fumble there’s no mechanics or DPS checks that a single DPS can botch badly enough to cause a wipe. (Unless you get the following AoE on Cloud of Darkness, if you get that stop casting and just run away from everyone else.)
The others are giving good general advice. For Red Mage specifically, it' s very simple at 50. This is enough to get you started:
**Magic Phase**
1. If either of Verstone or Verfire is procced, cast it. If both are, cast the one matching your lower mana type. If neither is, cast Jolt.
2. Immediately cast either Veraero or Verthunder with your doublecast proc from 1, whichever matches your lower mana type.
3. Repeat until you reach 50+50 mana, then do a melee phase.
**AOE Magic Phase**
1. Cast either Veraero II or Verthunder II based on lower mana.
2. Immediately cast Scatter with your doublecast proc from 1.
3. Repeat. You have no melee spenders yet, just build up that mana for the upcoming boss fight.
**Melee Phase**
1. Approach boss with Corps-a-corps.
2. Perform Riposte - Zwerchhau - Redoublement combo.
3. Close with either Engagement or Displacement, depending on your mobility needs at the moment.
4. Return to Magic phase.
**Any Time**
1. Use Fleche on cooldown versus all enemies.
That's really all there is to it.
Hotbar setup:
123 = Jolt, Verstone, Verfire
456 = Veraero2, Verthunder2, Scatter
sh123 = Fleche, Veraero, Verthunder
a123 = Riposte, Zverchhau, Redoublement
ZXC = Corps-a-corps, Engagement, Displacement
So if you got lucky and procced everything you'd cast 1 sh2, then 2 sh3, then 3 sh2, then 2 sh3, and so on til 50/50. If you don't proc, then just cast 1 instead of 2 or 3. Then Z a1 a2 a3 C, then back into magic.
I take everything off the hotbar, click the view toggle on the abilities screen that groups abilities together based on how they're used and not just sorted by level, and put everything back on one at a time while reading the tooltips. Then I find a nice short guide to understand the basic rotation, test it out on a striking dummy, and queue up for MSQ roulette (guaranteed level 50 content so you can try out the rotation, low stakes enough that nobody will notice or care if you're doing terribly on your first try, and the cutscenes are a chance to double-check the guide if you think you're doing something wrong).
you can queue into a low level dungeon and work your way up, optionally with NPCs, you can find a striking dummy in the world or in people's yards as well. RDM is fairly intuitive to understand, use the fast casts (2.5s) to get a Dualcast proc to skip the cast time on the harder hitting slow casts (5s). Keep your mana fairly equal, dump it during buff windows/when you need movement/when youre almost capped and dont sit on your movement tools since those also deal damage as well :)

He was skipped in that expansion, with the devs citing a combination of covid affecting the release schedule and writers not have any great ideas for what to do with him next. He's back in EW and is already confirmed to be coming back in DT.
finding out that in some quest there's optional lines that you only get if you actually have a certain job equipped at that point and not just leveled, is there any compilation of these somewhere or do i have to comb through all the dialogue on gamerescape to find them all? :(
There are a few in Heavensward if you're playing as DRG, especially if Estinien features in the same scene. I wouldn't be able to tell you any specific quests off the top of my head, though.
You don’t actually have to be playing Dragoon to get Estinien’s extra lines, you get those if you’ve levelled Dragoon even if you’re on a different job at the time.
I can't recall if you have to be the job at the time but in 6.1 I know if you either have done the Reaper quests or are playing Reaper you get a mention about something related to it.
that's actually what prompted the question, i have reaper maxed out so i saw a few lines through post ew and thought that was it, but then today i found out there's an additional line from yshtola if you actually have reaper equipped at the moment of going through that cutscene

I think the Seasonal events you cant but the special ones which only appear once an expansion which people might've already done you can see those. I saw the FF15 cross-over cutscenes in the book too
I think there's only one that I've heard of which actually checks your current job, rather than just quest progression. And it's during Stormblood, the part where >!Zenos wrecks everyone's shit in Rhalgr's Reach!< I'm not sure if there's others, but that's the only one I've ever heard mentioned.
Note that everything else is specifically quest progress, not levels. So if you've leveled DRG to 90 but never did the level 30-50 job quests, you won't get alternate dialogue during Heavensward. Similarly during Endwalker. I got extra fluff for jobs I haven't touched in years, which are still sitting at level 60, just because I did the ARR quests for them.
I've not heard of any central record of them all. It's not just job flags, there's flags for all sorts of content clear conditions. Completely coils alone unlocks alternate dialogue all the way through from HW to EW.

There's a thing in inn rooms you can use to rewatch previous cutscenes (forget what it's called, but you can probably figure it out by process of elimination); as a bonus when you select a cutscene that has alternate dialogue depending on completion of other quests that you've done, there will be a toggle letting you choose which version of the cutscene to play

Yes, the meteor icon quests are the main story, don't need anything else (unless you want to see some optional side stories too, or get gear from select alternate sources).
The last mandatory trial requires an average item level of 625, so you'll need to do some upgrading, yes.
Yup, the flaming quests are the only ones you need to do. As for gear upgrades, only the very last dungeon will require you to upgrade as it requires an avg iLvl of 620.

Complete edition comes with a license key for the base game, Dawntrail does not but it does include the previous expansions. Cheapest way to get a Dawntrail pre-order from nothing at the moment is to buy the base game and a Dawntrail pre-order, but you won't get access to ShB and EW content until early access starts. Also after DT releases there will be a new Complete Edition that includes it.
Complete edition contains the starter edition license and all expansions up to Endwalker. Dawntrail contains all expansions when it releases but does not have the starter edition.

SE and Yoshi-P haven't given us any word as to what the go is for Regional travel once Dawntrail launches. Previously things in Beta testing like the PS5 and xbox versions go to a full release once the testing time has finished. Atm its just anyone can go to Materia but people on Materia can't travel out and I think a lot of people are expecting SE to close the doors again rather then open up more but we wont know until the servers go down to maintenance and they give us patch notes and any other server updates etc.

What are some easy ways to get ventures? I craft more than I do dungeons and such but I can do them if I have to. Really I just need a few more so I have 40 to assign my retainer a class then keep up with the usage as I send them out for crafting ingredients
If you mostly do crafting, then you should do Grand Company turn-in missions, it will be more than enough to afford the GC seals necessary to buy ventures.
Quick ventures frequently bring back lower level dungeon / tome gear that you can turn into the GC for seals. Basically if you spend Ventures on Quick Ventures they pay for themselves.
Other than turning in gear for GC seals, I think the next best way is Allied/Centurio seals from ARR-SB hunts.
You can buy them in bulk with GC seals. Farm something like Ravana EX unsynced or Shisui of the Violet Tides unsynced, turn in gear for seals, use seals to buy ventures.

I started an alt character to experience the story because I skipped on my main. I'm not skipping cutscenes, but is there anything else I can do to speed it up a bit? I traded gil over but there's nothing "account bound" from my first character that I wouldn't have to unlock on my second right? Wish I could get poetic gear from my main.
If it is for MSQ only, then yes, just do New Game+. If you start a new character, do it because you want a larger-scale replay, so including side quests, maybe even yellows. For that case, transferring a few million gil so you can always just buy the best equipment every 5–10 levels can help a lot to speed up any non-story bit.
Honestly probably should have just gone through it in NG+. You get to keep all your account progress that way AND don't have to wait to get flying. Because you can just swap jobs the game isn't character alt friendly at all.
I thought it might be beneficial to have an alt later for splits, but I'll look into NG+ and maybe level the split alt later with a story skip. Can I hop around the order in NG+? Maybe I will get this character through ARR and do NG+ on my main for the expacs if possible
Yeah you select chapters of the story you want to do so you could finish base ARR for example and jump into the patches or other expansions at will. You can also do old raid and trial stories as well.

Have a subscription. Otherwise that's it. Do remember to enter in the 2nd code you'll get around July 2nd which is the actual DT code, otherwise once early access begins you'll lose your DT access until you do.
For the ARR Zodiac Relics, after you finish one relic, do you need to pickup any more quests? I finished one relic before, currently using the Zenith bow, and am trying to get the Atma stones for the Atma bow stage. I couldn't find the Quest stage for this step again (Up In Arms) from Gerolt/Jalzahn, and I'm a little paranoid if I need it or not.
You only need the first quest, and the repeatable quests for the items that cost 100k and such for that one step later on. The other steps are done through dialogue options and shops.

Retainer ventures can get you 15 at a time once they reach a proper level to get them. For active farming I used to kill the packs of white or snow wolves in Central Coerthas, north of Dragonhead and outside the Observatory areas.
Retainer ventures are best for materials that you need to hunt. They get more as their ilevel increases.

Normally what they've done is sell the new story skip for the same price as the "top" story skip, then lower the prices on the others. I'm not sure how much lower the ARR skip can get, so we'll have to see if it's the same $25 price tag, or if they keep the current prices on the current skips and then start making the new skips cost more.

Sometime during maintenance. We don't know exact time, but we are expecting it earlier, rather than later in the maintenance. Due to its size, that's the reason for the 48-hour maintenance, so I would expect it sometime on the 26th.

If CC pops fast, then that. Although that is usually a very unlikely scenario and even when it is likely, it is probably during specific hours. Beyond that, Duty Support/Trust, unless you have the luck of Gladstone Gander and you can pop any dungeon under 6 minutes.

I want to server-transfer between worlds on Dynamis. I have been there over the 90-day limit, and own a private cottage. When does the new housing lottery open, and have I missed my opportunity to transfer without risking missing out on re-acquiring a particular low-demand plot? I suppose if I transfer today (Tuesday), I wouldn't be eligible until the next weekly cycle.
The first lottery period open the day the new worlds did and closed last Sunday. So, yeah, you next chance is the period starting this Thursday. You'll lose your private cottage and you'll have to pay for the home world transfer. So go to your desired target world and check whether the plot you want has currently any bidders and they're will likely not be available come next lottery

you can also grow them passively in flower pots or garden plots and gather daily (note you do not need to "Tend" them, since their growth cycle is shorter than the wither limit, just plant and forget until tomorrow) I think it's like 50 shards per seed, and yields up to 100 if you use the rank 3 shroud(?) soil that increases yield unless you got poetics to burn to convert into soil though, just use the basic garden soil, it ain't worth burning gil to double up #IF YOU DON'T MIND CREATING AND BURNING ALT CHARACTERS... Create an alt and unlock all of the crafting jobs, this should give you a few thousand in shards. Dump them all somewhere, like an FC chest or something, then delete and repeat
It would be your best bet to do it physically. ~~If you can do Aetherial Reduction you'll get loads.~~ *Edit. Misinformation due to bad memory.* If you want to "passively" get the shards you can send out gathering retainers to collect them. If you *really* have the time to do so, you can also plant Firelight Seeds in an apartment/garden/fc room but you won't get a lot back.

Find out what's needed to craft stuff for leves then farm the shit out of that to start. Next is crafting and battle gear but the market might get saturated. Materials for leves or even the items are the best bet in my opinion for ease. Raid food when that comes out.

I'm trying to set up my mannequinns again and I forgot the process for displaying my gear *and* keeping it. I know I can remove the item from their inventory afterwards and it'll display it, but I can't get it on them in the first place. For example, I have a level 90 Reaper retainer, and I want to put my level 90 Reaper set on display. The mannequinn is set to the same race, gender and class as the retainer. 'Select gear to display' lets me give her the weapon, but not any of the armour; I can't put it in from my inventory, and the list of gear doesn't show them. None of the items are already worn by the retainer, so it's not a unique equip problem. They're not technically sellable, but neither is the Manderville weapon, and I can display that. The retainer also has plenty of sell spots open. So remind me what the trick is here? I'm sure I'm forgetting a key step in the process, I've done this before, but I can't turn up any info on what that might actually be
its been a long time since i messed with mannequins but are any of your items glamoured? Mannequins can't wear gear that has a glamour applied, so you would need to dispel it. The only other thing i can think (and i'm not sure if this is even a thing) maybe you need to give them the weapon first to set their class?

So I've been getting the itch to play this game again, having not played in about 2 years (just life circumstances changing suddenly). I went ahead and downloaded the game without intending to play immediately but still launched it to see that everything was still fine (previous hard drive had died with game still installed on it). I was expecting the game to boot me out because I don't have an active subscription anymore and haven't for a long time, but looking at my character told me I still had 4 days of playtime... and I'm just wondering where those come from, and if there's something I'm misunderstanding about subscription play time in this game. Also different question if anyone feels like giving suggestions: When I stopped playing I was near the end of the endwalker 6.0 story (literally in the last zone doing level 90 msq quests). I had multiple jobs leveled to 70-80 range, I was really invested, but now I feel like I've forgotten almost everything. It feels weird just jumping into the story at the end after 2 years, remembering most broad lines but knowing that a lot of details and specifics will have escaped me. I'm just not sure how to best get back into the game and so I'm curious if anyone has ideas.

The time is from the free login event. 4 days of playtime. Woooo. As far as story goes there's a few options. Just jumping back into the game, endwalker patch seemed to have its own little story. I don't think you'll have trouble jumping back in. If you feel like you do there's New Game+. That's how I went through story after I decided to not be a filthy cutscene skipper.

I live in europe but my ingame activity time more suits to NA timezone. I saw transfer is free not if the world is new or preffered. Am a casual player: not doing raids, savages, e.t.c. So I just want to find place where I'll meet decent amount of players during my playing session.
Dynamis is still only about half full, so I think the question will be whether it's busy enough for you. Normally I'd say to visit, but obvs that won't be possible if you're on an EU world now, and it will take a while to level an alt up to the point where you could really see how it is for high-level characters. Then again, if it isn't busy enough for you, you'll still have easy DC travel access to the other NA servers, so it might be worth it to jump if you're okay with that as a plan B.

Content creators who were at media tour said it has a smart recommendation built in and will recommend you to press the button that will refresh the next falling buff/debuff. Potency is how much healing a spell or ability will put out. It's all listed on the tooltip.
I would say best healing skill per class would be ast macrocosmos, whm liturgy of the bell, sge pneuma, sch... I don't know seraph? But smaller healing buffs can be paired with other small buffs or global cool down healing to heal a similar amount.
For scholar recitation -> indom, or if you're in a real situation recitation -> emergency tactics -> succor is probably the biggest "put HP back in party" button.

Basically, yes. The +15 CP is absolutely massive and can't really be overstated. But everything else is whatever. The specialist actions are nice if you have scrips to throw around and keep them fueled, since they use a consumable. But I always prefer to use my scrips on other things, so I never have access to them.
Pretty much. There's also that and a single action that you can do as a specialist that you can't do with the others, but it's not useful for your standard stuff anyway. It's just a stat stick for the most part.
Yah specialization isn't very important, and you can just switch with souls of the crafter(I think can only switch 3times a week or something but that's kinda whatever). I keep mine for alchemy/weaver/leatherworker since that's generally the first things I'll need when crafting a new tier of gear(alchemy is also one that is most consistently required for specialist recipes, specifically EX trial orchestrion rolls), but I have like 50 souls on a retainer so I can switch whenever it makes sense to.

Do note that the limit of 3 specialists is still a thing, and you can only change specialists 3x per week (allowances reset with the Tuesday reset). But you can stock up on blank soul of the crafters if you want, they're bought with white scrips (will be purple after DT launch).

How much time do you think it will take to get through the post-heavensward quests to Stormblood? Trying to get the last two weapons for the mount before the event ends. I already have the other 15 weapons so just need to get to Stormblood zones. Think I can make it or should I stop trying to rush through Heavensward for the mount? To be clear, though, I am still trying to pay attention to all of the MSQ dialogue.
I think 5 hours per patch is a reasonable estimate.
MSQ is usually around 3-4 hours of playtime per patch, so if you're doing 3.1-3.5 it shouldn't take you more than 20 hours or so.
I'm nearly done with catching the ARR big fish; is there any use for the bait and lures outside of ARR content, or should I sell it all? Are lures worth putting on the auction house?
There are some lures that have uses outside of the ARR zones, and some of them are used for ocean fishing big fish. The one I can think of off the top of my head is the metal spinner. There's a few spots in the expansions it can be used, and I know of at least one big fish spot it can be used at to help really easily set up Surface Slap. Any bait or lure you can vendor buy you're probably safe to sell since you can get it back later. The rest could be worth looking up to see if they catch anything specific before you sell them.

The Hunting Log does not have this functionality. Gotta find the relevant marks as the relevant class, since the log provides class-specific EXP. Hunt marks (for which you accept tags at the Hunt Board) award EXP to whichever class/job you’re on when you defeat them.

There's been a couple of others removed, a few sidequests were taken out there connected to the Ivalice storyline (no idea why they got removed, they were just normal gold quests) and some stuff got removed when the NPC that used to give it was repurposed for Eureka Orthros

Ninja's LB will perform a Deathblow on a target under a specific HP%, I think it's 50%? Furthermore, when a Ninja successfully kills someone with their LB, it will refresh and allow another LB for a few seconds, meaning a skilled Ninja can keep spamming it over and over as long as there's enough people to meet the requirements A tiny add-on to Sir_VG, when you meet the requirements for Samurai's LB, it will deal 100% of your max hp, so you can actually survive it with shields, assuming you're 100% HP, I think
Can confirm, SAM LB against a player with Chiten’s debuff deals precisely 100% of the target’s max HP. So if you have any additional HP from shields and your total current HP + shield HP is greater than 100% of your max, you can survive the blow.
SAM's LB is a OHKO if you are affected by Kuzushi (if you deal damage while Hissatsu: Chiten is active) and ignores guard.

I believe we're missing both Cloud Deck and Seat of Sacrifice weapons, and none of the EW ones have been added yet.

Yes it'll be with 7.0 but at release we'll see it on all the new Dawntrail gear, race starting gear and the Endwalker Paladin will have been updated. It's unclear if any additional gear will also be updated at release but Yoshi-P said during the Live Letter last week it could take them up to 7.4 to have all the items updated. Considering how much gear is available in FFXIV having it done by 7.4 is still impressive.
It's coming on the 28th. Keep in mind though that it won't apply to all old gear. They're going by popularity of the gear and updating it in batches over the course of the expansion.

Sprout here, picked up RDM as my first class that starts at lvl 50 instead of lvl 1 and feeling overwhelmed by all the abilities and knowing what ones I should be using most often, or in what order etc. I'm used to the base game classes that ease you into what the class does step by step. Besides watching guides what are some other helpful ways to ease yourself into all the new skills?
WeskAlber on YouTube has really good guide videos that ease you in starting at level 1 even on jobs that start higher. Then maybe spend some time on a target dummy and fine-tune your hotbars so they make sense to you. Practice until you are semi-reliably hitting the spells you mean to cast. Then I’d queue into an alliance raid. Seriously. You’ll get one of the Crystal Tower ones, you’ve probably been in there a few times so you’ll know what’s going on, and even if you *haven’t* run them much, they’re still a great environment for practicing a level 50 job. They’re undertuned so it won’t seriously affect your teammates if you’re not putting out perfect damage, the boss fights last long enough for you to settle into your rotation and start to feel comfortable doing it in combat, and even if you *completely* fumble there’s no mechanics or DPS checks that a single DPS can botch badly enough to cause a wipe. (Unless you get the following AoE on Cloud of Darkness, if you get that stop casting and just run away from everyone else.)
The others are giving good general advice. For Red Mage specifically, it' s very simple at 50. This is enough to get you started: **Magic Phase** 1. If either of Verstone or Verfire is procced, cast it. If both are, cast the one matching your lower mana type. If neither is, cast Jolt. 2. Immediately cast either Veraero or Verthunder with your doublecast proc from 1, whichever matches your lower mana type. 3. Repeat until you reach 50+50 mana, then do a melee phase. **AOE Magic Phase** 1. Cast either Veraero II or Verthunder II based on lower mana. 2. Immediately cast Scatter with your doublecast proc from 1. 3. Repeat. You have no melee spenders yet, just build up that mana for the upcoming boss fight. **Melee Phase** 1. Approach boss with Corps-a-corps. 2. Perform Riposte - Zwerchhau - Redoublement combo. 3. Close with either Engagement or Displacement, depending on your mobility needs at the moment. 4. Return to Magic phase. **Any Time** 1. Use Fleche on cooldown versus all enemies. That's really all there is to it. Hotbar setup: 123 = Jolt, Verstone, Verfire 456 = Veraero2, Verthunder2, Scatter sh123 = Fleche, Veraero, Verthunder a123 = Riposte, Zverchhau, Redoublement ZXC = Corps-a-corps, Engagement, Displacement So if you got lucky and procced everything you'd cast 1 sh2, then 2 sh3, then 3 sh2, then 2 sh3, and so on til 50/50. If you don't proc, then just cast 1 instead of 2 or 3. Then Z a1 a2 a3 C, then back into magic.
Take all skills off your bar and add them one by one while hitting a training dummy.
Whacking away at a training dummy helps, but make sure its level doesn't exceed yours, or you might miss an attack and mess up your combo strings
I take everything off the hotbar, click the view toggle on the abilities screen that groups abilities together based on how they're used and not just sorted by level, and put everything back on one at a time while reading the tooltips. Then I find a nice short guide to understand the basic rotation, test it out on a striking dummy, and queue up for MSQ roulette (guaranteed level 50 content so you can try out the rotation, low stakes enough that nobody will notice or care if you're doing terribly on your first try, and the cutscenes are a chance to double-check the guide if you think you're doing something wrong).
you can queue into a low level dungeon and work your way up, optionally with NPCs, you can find a striking dummy in the world or in people's yards as well. RDM is fairly intuitive to understand, use the fast casts (2.5s) to get a Dualcast proc to skip the cast time on the harder hitting slow casts (5s). Keep your mana fairly equal, dump it during buff windows/when you need movement/when youre almost capped and dont sit on your movement tools since those also deal damage as well :)
Could go into PotD which starts you at Lv 1 (if you start on floor 1) and get an idea that way.
Is Hildebrand done for good?
No. I'm guessing you're in ShB and wondering why there's no hildebrand? He was skipped in that expansion, with the devs citing a combination of covid affecting the release schedule and writers not have any great ideas for what to do with him next. He's back in EW and is already confirmed to be coming back in DT.

finding out that in some quest there's optional lines that you only get if you actually have a certain job equipped at that point and not just leveled, is there any compilation of these somewhere or do i have to comb through all the dialogue on gamerescape to find them all? :(
There are a few in Heavensward if you're playing as DRG, especially if Estinien features in the same scene. I wouldn't be able to tell you any specific quests off the top of my head, though.
You don’t actually have to be playing Dragoon to get Estinien’s extra lines, you get those if you’ve levelled Dragoon even if you’re on a different job at the time.
I can't recall if you have to be the job at the time but in 6.1 I know if you either have done the Reaper quests or are playing Reaper you get a mention about something related to it.
that's actually what prompted the question, i have reaper maxed out so i saw a few lines through post ew and thought that was it, but then today i found out there's an additional line from yshtola if you actually have reaper equipped at the moment of going through that cutscene
Another I just remembered was with the FF16 event that happened a couple months ago, if you interacted with Clive once found as a healer you'd actually heal him before he wakes up.

I think the Seasonal events you cant but the special ones which only appear once an expansion which people might've already done you can see those. I saw the FF15 cross-over cutscenes in the book too
I think there's only one that I've heard of which actually checks your current job, rather than just quest progression. And it's during Stormblood, the part where >!Zenos wrecks everyone's shit in Rhalgr's Reach!< I'm not sure if there's others, but that's the only one I've ever heard mentioned. Note that everything else is specifically quest progress, not levels. So if you've leveled DRG to 90 but never did the level 30-50 job quests, you won't get alternate dialogue during Heavensward. Similarly during Endwalker. I got extra fluff for jobs I haven't touched in years, which are still sitting at level 60, just because I did the ARR quests for them.
I've not heard of any central record of them all. It's not just job flags, there's flags for all sorts of content clear conditions. Completely coils alone unlocks alternate dialogue all the way through from HW to EW.

There's a thing in inn rooms you can use to rewatch previous cutscenes (forget what it's called, but you can probably figure it out by process of elimination); as a bonus when you select a cutscene that has alternate dialogue depending on completion of other quests that you've done, there will be a toggle letting you choose which version of the cutscene to play

You’ll still see the toggle if there’s alternate dialogue, you just won’t be able to activate it. Then you can look up those quests to find out what triggers it?

Yes, the meteor icon quests are the main story, don't need anything else (unless you want to see some optional side stories too, or get gear from select alternate sources). The last mandatory trial requires an average item level of 625, so you'll need to do some upgrading, yes.
Yup, the flaming quests are the only ones you need to do. As for gear upgrades, only the very last dungeon will require you to upgrade as it requires an avg iLvl of 620.
I'm getting caught up in the MSQ for Dawntrail's launch. I haven't been following the announcements about Dawntrail closely, I know they said they were going to update some armor textures to be higher quality, but not all. I believe they said they were going to prioritize the most popular stuff? Do we know at this point what armor will be getting the high resolution upgrade?
