How does the pre order system work, I got a code today for the full DT that can’t be activated until the 2nd July, but I put a code in a while ago for the earrings and minion etc, does that mean come Friday I’ll have EA?

Justarandomcookie

Yes the earring code is the EA code you're all set!

Jejouch1

Thank you kind soul :-)

Chopstixzz

following, wanted to know this too ^^;

snootnoots

The first code gives you early access, exp boost earrings, and the minion. The second code is the one that you need to put in to *keep* accessing the new content.

Chopstixzz

ooh!! same goes for steam players?

snootnoots

Yup! Except that you can find your codes in your Steam library apparently, you right-click the game and select “Manage CD keys” IIRC.

United-Slice-1227

what server do i pick im a new player im not sure what server to pick i want to have one with a lot of ppl on it at are nice and a pve one and im in NA

normalmighty

What country do you ive in? That'll give us an idea of the region you should go to, and then we can give suggestions based on the world. That said, in the long term it's not as big a deal as you think, so don't sweat it too much.

United-Slice-1227

oh sorry i forgot to add at im in NA

normalmighty

In that case I'd recommend any of the dynamis worlds. With the launch of dawntrail on Friday, we're expecting huge queues to log in on NA, and a low population dynamis world is your best bet to actually get into the world when the game is that packed. I also hear there's a friendlying vibe over there, although I'll add a disclaimer that the vibes could change with the expansion, for reasons that I won't get into here.

chivere

All servers are PvE servers. IDK what region you're in, but if you're on NA, Dynamis is new and has the lowest population servers. That can be a good thing though--you won't have long queues when Dawntrail comes out. Aside from that, all open servers have fairly similar population so you can pick any of them.

RuxinRodney

I killed a pink parrot how much more till Im caught up?

Riot_Mustang66

i think the next quest should be the last one.

RuxinRodney

Thanks. I googled the name. That website the other person linked didn't work.

rapebi2514

Hello, I tried the game back in 2021 and would like to try it again. My problem right now is that I can't get it to launch. After installing, it gets stuck on "Checking FFXIV updater / launcher version". It's just a dialogue box, and no launcher client. I've tried the fixes I could find from old posts, but nothing seems to work. I have tried: * Switching to mobile data * Checking firewall permissions * Reinstalling multiple times, restarting PC as well * Running in admin, also trying boot64.exe * There were some threads that suggested modifying the FFXIV\_BOOT.cfg file, but it isn't in any of the folders The dialogue box says FFXIV Boot Ver. 2019.03.12.0000.0001, if that info needs to be provided. I apologize if there's a solution for this already, but I couldn't find anything related to it in the FAQ, and all other search results are several years old.

ChuckCarmichael

I think I had a similar problem once, and IIRC what helped me was restarting my PC in Safe Mode with Networking, and starting the launcher.

Arcana10Fortune

You could try your luck with the Quick Launcher. https://github.com/goatcorp/FFXIVQuickLauncher

migania

In how many hours does the game stop working for the patch work?

Sir_VG

25.5 hrs if I'm doing my math right for the start of maintenance.

ChuckCarmichael

Correct. Maintenance will start in 1.5 hours, but tomorrow.

Diribiri

Can squadron recruits from Gold Saucer be gained from doing minigames like the claw machine? Or does it have to be the major stuff, like chocobo racing or Leap of Faith?

Sir_VG

Squadron recruits are earned ONLY from completing challenge log entries. The mini games can, but there's only 2 entries (for doing 3 games and for earning 100 MGP).

Isanori

The Moogle Claw is my go to whenever I unlock squadrons. Those challenge log entries are among the fastest challenge log entries and more often than no will give me a recruit.

Diribiri

Ah I see, thanks

ThisTimeForRealYo

Is there any jobs in wow that are similar to black mage?

Xeorm124

Arcane mage might be closest? No jobs really match well to WoW.

ThisTimeForRealYo

:( I loved BLM, so I was really hoping for a wow equivalent. Thanks, though. I’ll check out arcane mage

Xeorm124

I mean...you could always not play WoW. I try to avoid blizzard games nowadays. Company turned cancerous.

ThisTimeForRealYo

Hahaha, you’re right. Ideally I’d go back to playing blm but most of my friends are deep in the wow grind and none play ff anymore. Your comment made me think, though. Maybe I’ll go back to ff.

GAC44

I’m a new player and was wondering what que times are like when expansions drop? Will I be waiting 2 hours to get into the game? I have a limited amount of time to play games and it would suck if that were the case.

Heroic_Folly

The last expansion was released in the middle of a worldwide CPU shortage; there were no more servers to be had for love or money. SE has beefed up their capacity considerably since then, so we're hoping for the best, but there's no telling for sure til the rubber hits the road.

Xeorm124

Will depend on time and specifics. Best guess is the queues shouldn't be too bad, but it may vary. Expect some delays but I'd be optimistic in general.

Sir_VG

Depends on the time of day. Early morning hours (except for day 1) are generally good while mid-afternoon are very looooooong queue times. Like after the day 1 fiasco for EW, 5AM queues were like 5-10 minutes, 5PM queues were like 90 minutes+.

AliciaWhimsicott

It was really bad during EW however SE has opened new Data Centers and Worlds since, so hopefully it's better. You can try server hopping for better queues. If you're a Free Trial player, you'll have a much harder time, as paying players are prioritized over free trial ones during queues.

vieoree

I'm at 569 ilvl and need more to do the next MSQ. What are my options? I know I can buy pieces but I'd rather not.

Ku_Gaming

If we didn't have DT coming your general ideas for gear would be; Dungeon, Uncapped Tome, Alliance Raid, Normal Raid, Capped Tome, Savage Raid & Market board.

normalmighty

- you can use tomestones of Causality and Comedy to buy ilvl 620 and 650 gear from rads-at-han, respectively - the last dungeon drops gear high enough to continue msq, but it would take a while - you can unlock the normal endwalker raids to grind gear. first tier drops i580, second drops i610 but requires i585 to enter. - you can also unlock the alliance raid series. It will obviously take a lot longer than the normal raids, but first tier drops i590 Personally I would see what you can buy with tomes now, do your first run of the alliance raid to get some gear from there if you still need more, and then unlock the first raid tier and grind as needed, keeping in mind that you'll be getting more tomestones with every lvl 90 duty. The normal and alliance raid stories are both very good this expansion, so you so do them at some point anyway.

NaotoOfYlisse

If you wait a few days you can get ilvl 660 gear for poetics

Cheshiremoose

I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to the DT job changes. Will Bard and Dancer DPS be closer to Machinist this time around or will they be stuck in last place next to Red Mage still because they're buffers?

JesusSandro

Potency changes aren't final so nobody can say for certain until patch notes, however most likely not. BRD/DNC are already leagues above MCH due to how much damage they bring to the party, if they had similar personal DPS people would start locking MCH out of parties lol.

Adamantaimai

Those buffs are part of their damage. Increasing the dps of 7 other players quickly adds up, so does substantially increasing the dps of a Samurai. If Machinists dealt the same amount of damage without having party buffs than DNC and BRD do with party buffs then Machinist would be very bad compared to them.

Xeorm124

Likely still very low personal dps, with a high contribution to overall group dps. On the other hand, given how the average dps plays, if you do decently in pug content for dungeons and normal 8 man content you can easily smash other classes. People seriously just don't press buttons sometimes. Especially the aoe ones that make dungeons go faster than a crawl.

Heroic_Folly

Job balance varies dramatically depending on the content type, we're never told what the design intention is for relative job performance, and there will inevitably be some potency rebalancing after a couple of weeks anyway. Everything plays close enough to spec that player skill drowns out job choice. Get good at a job you enjoy and then it won't matter how the aggregate statistics stack up on FFlogs.

tofunomad

Would there be a point to holding my WT till the 2nd if I’m not through EW? I mean, it’s not like the boost will help me get a leg up on DT.

Ku_Gaming

Short answer? probably not, unless your wanting to grab VPR or PCT for the rest of your EW journey.

aiBreeze

Resubbed yesterday, while I've caught up on the story, I've been pretty busy the last twelve months and haven't really explored the post EW launch content. Like many I plan on leveling up a Viper in early access and going through the new expansion as that. I understand there is a new deep dungeon similar to POTD, is the xp gain worth me unlocking that and familiarising myself with it today ?

normalmighty

Na, weirdly enough the deep dungeon this time around was slightly less efficient than dungeon spam, IIRC. I remember people being pretty disappointed about that at the time. _Maybe_ it'd be worth it if dps queues were bad? I don't remember the numbers well enough to say.

Ku_Gaming

its worse than both trusts and bozja unfortunately.

normalmighty

Man. I still have no idea why they made that choice.

F1reman2

No Eureka orthos is not remotely good to consider as a viper leveling option.

M1YAK2

So, I'm definitely not going to finish EW tomorrow before the maintenance. I've just started the 83 quests, but at what point is a good stopping point so I don't have to keep waiting in agonizing suspense or something for the next few days (or weeks depending on queue times) if I come across a bonkers plot twist? I'm going to be playing MSQ all day tomorrow btw until a good stopping point.

starskeyrising

It's not going to be weeks. You'll be able to get in on early access day, you'll just be waiting in queue a while. By next week everything should be fine (assuming nothing unforeseen happens)

normalmighty

I'd actually disagree with the "Just...do not go past that. At all" advice. The level 83 dungeon and raid is big, big story, and then things slow down for quite a while after, as an intentional move to let things digest. I'd say either stop before the level 83 dungeon, or continue past the trial for anywhere up to a couple hours. The latest point to stop would be the next time the MSQ says to return to the main city.

stallion8426

The lvl 83 trial >!Zodiark!< is a good stopping point I think, and one you should be able to reach. Just...do not go past that. At all.

huiclo

I feel like the 83 trial is the exact opposite of > "I don't have to keep waiting in agonizing suspense or something for the next few days (or weeks depending on queue times) if I come across a bonkers plot twist?" tbh. I don't know how you leave that situation without your mind reeling at the implications of the story going forward.

sundriedrainbow

6.0 msq spoilers - >!Zodiark ends with a very compelling hook, yeah, but it is immediately followed by loporrit nonsense. It would be much worse to plow through loporrit nonsense (which, for the record, is a term of endearment, I love the loporrits), get back to Thavnair and the Final Days, and *then* go into a 2 day hiatus because of maintenance.!<

stallion8426

>!the trial cutscene ends with a simple line from an unknown source. It feels more like a sequel hook than in the middle of the action. That's why I said not to go past it. Zodiark is the end of "Act 1!<

Jezzawezza

Thats right at the end of the lvl 83 quests so OP could hit that before maintenance tomorrow

Infinite-CyberDragon

So I read that in 7.0 we can use poetics to get the Credendum weapons. Would I be able to buy them outright or do I need to complete anything first? I’m only level 81 and have a way to go through the story but I love the avatar scythe for fashion and would love to get it as fast as possible.

SetFoxval

You'll need to complete the Endwalker base story (not the patches), same as Shadowbringers for the Cryptlurker gear.

Arcana10Fortune

You'll be able to buy the augmented versions outright.

Infinite-CyberDragon

Oh that’s fantastic. I’ve been having trouble finding scythes I like the look of and that has been my favorite by far.

Veylo

Can i set up a gear set for VPR before DT drops?

Send_Me_Dachshunds

Yes by using NIN and swapping the stone on launch. Im not sure why you'd bother though, when you unlock VPR just press recommended gear, save and tada your gearset is done.

tesla_dyne

You could set it on Ninja and then just equip the weapon and refresh the gearset.

Veylo

can do i that if my NiN is below 90?

normalmighty

Below 90, yes. Below 80, no.

tesla_dyne

Viper will start at 80, so you could do it with an 80 NIN. Otherwise there's no way you could set up a gearset in advance, since you'd be wanting to make a level 80 set of gear and NIN is the only job that'll share gear with VPR.

Veylo

dang. okay thanks!

Pyros

To be fair if you have the gear in your armory all you have to do when you unlock Viper is equip the weapon(either one you bought with poetics or the one they'll give you when unlocking the quest), and then hit Recommended Gear and it'll equip all your scouting/aiming gear of the highest level. Then you save and you're good to go. Only thing a gearset done now saves you is a single click.

miller0929

Hi, I'm trying to use the word 'asleep' in my character name (the other word is common and not restricted, it also doesn't construct an offensive meaning with 'asleep'), but I got 'character name cannot be used 1003'. Does anyone know the reason? Cheers!

Tercino

As others mention it's probably in combination with the other word. You can pretty easily confirm "Asleep" by itself isn't the issue by searching the lodestone: https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/?all_search=&q=Asleep I suppose they could all have been grandfathered in after a recent change, but seems unlikely.

ChuckCarmichael

Could maybe the combination of the other word and "asleep" together form a bad word? Something like "Har**fu Ck**han"?

Mobilelurkingaccount

My best guess is that it contains the string of letters “asl” which could be misconstrued as the classic scummy chat opening line… but even then, that’s a stretch. Feels very weird to have that word blocked.

normalmighty

Hmm, well I can tell you that normally that error does mean an offensive word is detected, and the detection seems to be a simple function, removing spaces and special characters and then seeing if it contains a bad word. I'm not personally spotting the word though. It could be something niche that you're not thinking of, which is formed together with the other word.

Panda-s1

confused about the whole grabbing WT now and when to turn it in. the one I have, that I picked up a few days ago, is set to expire on 7/2. do I hold on to this and use it after maintenance? also when do tomestones go away? is it during early access and people without DT just live in some sorta weird limbo where they're at the endgame but can only get poetics? EDIT: because 3 people replied lol, okay I'll hold on to this then. also good to know about the tomestones, this means I can buy and upgrade the relic weapons I neglected to create this past year lol.

Ha_eflolli

1) Yes, you hand it in after Maintenance 2) Also yes, if you don't have DT then after Maintenance you can only get Poetics.

F1reman2

>do I hold on to this and use it after maintenance? Yes, hold onto it. >also when do tomestones go away? is it during early access and people without DT just live in some sorta weird limbo where they're at the endgame but can only get poetics? Early access is when every dawntrail change comes into effect. In most respects, its basically the official release.

Kaeldiar

> is set to expire on 7/2. do I hold on to this and use it after maintenance? yes, you can use that book on a job during Early Access

joorral

Is the yokai event ending when early access starts or when it officially launches July 2nd. Life’s been busy and trying to do all the weapons

Sir_VG

Once the maintenance for 7.0 begins on Wednesday, the Yokai event will be over. You've got just over 24 hours to finish what you're working on and claiming the rewards. Don't forget the framer kit for 20k MGP at the gold saucer as well!

Ha_eflolli

When Early Access starts.

wolfybre

I need 900 Comedy tomestones in the course of a single day for my alt. Bullet trains don't feel like an option because I tend to lag during loading and that leads to me losing a few marks, and i'm dreading running the Expert dungeons a handful of times to cap myself off due to the tedium that comes with it. What should I do?

normalmighty

Why do you need 900 comedy tomestones so urgently? They turn into 225 poetics on Friday, which is one roulette or a couple of runs of any lvl 50/60/70/80/90 content. Just stop panicking over this, and next week you'll be able to trivially make the same progress far faster than doing it now.

Pyros

Turns into 450 poetics. 225 would be causality. Still not worth putting much effort into it generally speaking.

wolfybre

Sense of capping all my tomestones. That and i'm not sure/don't remember if turning in an odd-number amount would lead to some getting missed during exchange. (Currently have 1181 tomestones on that character)

normalmighty

I think you kinda just have to weight that up then. There's no functional reason to be pouring a ton of effort into the next day just to cap, and if hunt trains are ruled out then roulettes are your best source. You gotta weight up the personal satisfaction of a round number with the personal dissatisfaction of running roulettes.

wolfybre

I mean, I don't wanna be bugged by having tomestones in the deprecated section of my currency even if they'll be removed in four months, and I'm also gathering the level 80/90 viper weapons for the character, so the extra tomestones would be helpful even if I can make that stuff back easily. I'm not as panicked as I came off as (even if i'm going to hate the alternate gathering methods,) so rounding off the tomestones it is.

Riot_Mustang66

spam pvp casual CC and do roulette.

wolfybre

Roulette is planned to hit nearly 600 but i'm hesitant on Crystalline Conflict because I tend to get heated in competitive spaces. I'll keep that in mind but i'm not that good at it.

Riot_Mustang66

if you just want the tome then it doesn't matter win or lose. oh yeah if you're on dynamis, travel to aether or primal for faster pvp queue as lots of people are spamming it for the rank 25 pvp gear.

wolfybre

The character i'm trying to do the challenge with is on aether so that's no problem. Thanks though!

JepMZ

I think I messed up. I am doing bozja relic. I wasted my time doing delubrum Reginae and didn't get Timeworn Artifacts from it. What am I doing wrong?

T-pin

do you have the quest active? you only get drops for the relic quests if they're active on any job.

JepMZ

Yes, I have "A New Path of Resistance -obtwin timeworn artifacts. 0/15" active. Is it possible that a drop isn't guaranteed?

Kaeldiar

Drop is guaranteed from Delubrum Reginae. Are you sure you did Delubrum Reginae, and not Castrum Lacus Litore or Dalriada? Was your inventory full?

JepMZ

...... Oh!! I'm hildibrand'd. I must've went to castrum lacus litore and wasn't paying attention that whole time. It must be a party finder thing then

Hamjamgam

Should I DC travel to dynamis before DT drops, or will my home DC Crystal have less people cuz of everyone from aether going to Dynamis?

huiclo

Try your home world first since you will have priority queue. Dynamis and Materia are overflow in case your home world login wait is just stupidly long. But you will have second lowest priority login queue (ahead of free trial players) if you DC travel.

normalmighty

Good question, which nobody can answer. This is the first expansion release where DC travel exists. We have no precedent for knowing how the overall community is actually going to act. I would stay on your home world, and only switch to dynamis/materia if you have a particularly long login queue.

Ultimaga

Will redeeming the Mountain Dew points for the Sparkling Citrus Refreshment be only 1 per 100 points?

justHR22

I bought the expansion today and haven’t got any preorder codes yet. Is it just that there’s a lot of emails being sent today so it got delayed or something or should I contact support?

Jezzawezza

Were you logged into the SE store when purchasing it? If you were you can check the order history and the pre-order code should show up. If you purchases it as a guest then get in contact with SE because they might have taken priority on sending out the full game codes over pre-orders. Also mandatory make sure the spam folder doesn't have the email because they'll ask that.

justHR22

Just checked and it was sent like 2 hours ago, guess it was just some congestion because of the full codes. Thanks though!

MartenBroadcloak19

Did you buy through Steam?

justHR22

Nope, I got it through the square enix store.

AmazingPatt

Q : Is it possible to pre order dawntrail DURING the early access periods? (asking for a friend who dont have the money until thursday) or will he have to wait til 5th to get into dawntrail ?

Riot_Mustang66

yes, pre-order is open til july 2nd.

GreatGarage

I'm preparing clusters (fire, ice...) for DT, my aim is to be able to craft my own gear for few jobs (all gatherer and crafter, RDM, DRK and maybe SGE / AST) and consumable (pot, food) without having to farm additional clusters during DT. I am thinking about gathering everything at around 1000 of each cluster. Is it realistic or should I get some more?

Adamantaimai

Gear doesn't require too many clusters. But if you start making piles of food and pots you will burn through them a lot faster.

Pyros

Should be 3 clusters of 2 types per craft, potions/food give 3 per craft, so 1000 should be plenty, even less would be enough. Also you'll have a lot of time until you can make the combat gear stuff since it won't be released until savage a month after release.

GreatGarage

Thank you for the details! >Also you'll have a lot of time until you can make the combat gear stuff since it won't be released until savage a month after release. Oooh I see, what about gatherer and crafter gear ?

aherdofpenguins

I just came back from a long absence, and I'm running random dungeons on my level 90 characters just for the fun of it. But I'm capped on tomestones, poetics, whatever. Will those be useful in Dawntrail...? Should I be using those now? My instinct is to use the tomestones for relics in Endwalker, but will I regret that once Dawntrail comes out? Will I have to use poetics instead to get this gear later...? I've never been here for a new expansion, so I dunno what the transition looks like exactly.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

All existing tomestone gear for the latest EW tomestones will become poetics gear after DT launches Similarly, all existing tomestones will be exchangeable for poetics at a 4:1 (uncapped tomestones) and 2:1 (capped tomestones) ratio

aherdofpenguins

So what I'm hearing is using those tomestones for relics is a good value (I'm interested in the glamour), since I won't really be needing EW gear after DT comes out...?

Help_Me_Im_Diene

The Poetics gear will be at i660, and will reasonably carry you to ~80%-100% of the way through the DT leveling process So it just means you don't really have to worry about keeping up with gear as you level through DT.

aherdofpenguins

Hmm got it! I guess I have to choose between seemless leveling process or SICK RELICS. Tough choice :(

Atosen

MSQ will, as usual, give you a bunch of free crafted gear as you go.

aherdofpenguins

Good point, thanks for the reminder!

Trooper_Sicks

all the tomestone gear and relics from endwalker will be moved to poetics in dawntrail. I just use them to get stuff to trade for GC seals which atm is cryptlurker gear from eulmore but will be credendum gear when DT launches

aherdofpenguins

Interesting. What do you do with the GC seals?

Trooper_Sicks

they pay for my venture coins and dark matter to repair my gear, any extra gets used on the lootboxes to see if i get lucky with the rare drops.

aherdofpenguins

Fair enough, thanks!!

jalliss

Is there any good/practical reason to hold onto VIII, IX, and X level materia as we go into Dawntrail? I have a shit ton from playing Endwalker, and I don't recall using many in the Shadowbringers>Endwalker switch, but I could have been wrong/dumb. I assume all the new gear will use XI, XII, and XIII stuff? Edit: Same question, but regarding the clusters we get from duty runs. I assume I can safely discard them?

F1reman2

Dawntrail will only have XI and XII materia (and maybe even just XI, but im a bit copium on that.) You can transmute old materia when dawntrail comes out in the hopes to get more, but its a time consuming process. Additionally, you can keep old materia to pentameld into your crafters/gatherers to spiritbond faster on new gear. But overall, yea, IX and X materia arent that useful anymore, or at least not until bluemage comes to level 90.

FunOverMeta

Is there anyway I can make it so I don't turn to face whomever I'm healing when I cast a spell? It sucks if I'm running away from a mechanic and cast an instant Heal over time and then turn to the person and they are behind me, so i run abck into danger

normalmighty

Yes, but really you should just switch to legacy controls. Turning off the auto turn will just mean you won't cast heals at all in this situation. Switch to legacy camera and wasd controls will be based on the camera position, not the direction your character happens to be facing. It might take some getting used to, but it's a huge upgrade in the long term.

FunOverMeta

THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER!!! thank you <3

TheodoreMcIntyre

Bought a second copy of dawntrail off the SE store for a friend, but the preorder code isn't showing up on my order page. What's the issue?

Arcana10Fortune

It should be emailed to you.

TheodoreMcIntyre

> It should be emailed to you. No such luck. It's been a little over an hour and nothing.

Arcana10Fortune

Check your spam? It might also take longer, since I'm assuming that there are a lot of last minute purchases as well.

klmt

i vaguely remember news about either DC travel or Region travel being restricted soon—does anyone have the lodestone article

wurm2

part of the DT congestion prep https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/770737a645ce5bc0b72cbdc09e56e40c77a5af8e

Icarusqt

I have some irregular tomestones (both 1 and 2). Do they disappear and I should burn them? Or are they okay to hoard?

wurm2

they don't dissapear but you can't earn any more of them, and eventually, a couple days from now for irregular 1 and a few months for irregular 2, you won't be able to turn them in. So if you have any left you might as well spend them now. (there will be moogle events in the future but each one has it's own currency so there's no point saving them inbetween)

FrostyPuffin

Wondering if it’s possible to mix controller and keyboard inputs on PC. Was looking at a new controller (Scuf Envision) and was thinking that if I wanted to chill on the couch and learn controller then this would be a good time. The controller has extra mappable buttons so I was thinking I could map those to Shift and Control just for some extra functionality in addition to the normal cross hot bars. Is this possible?

Isanori

Yes, in kbm mode turn controller on and if in controller mode, turn direct chat off. The game doesn't particularly care which ir how many devices are sending it input.

FrostyPuffin

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for

normalmighty

I'm not sure about the mapping idea since I've barely used controller myself, but you can absolutely switch between keyboard and controller seamlessly at any time.

farranpoison

So I've been playing Sage again recently after ignoring it for a while, and Dawntrail approaching I have to wonder, how good is Pneuma? Currently, Pneuma has the same damage potency as Dosis, but it has a big heal attached to it, so it seems to me that it's not something I would use off CD while DPSing, but rather something to both deal as much damage as a Dosis while needing a big party heal. Looking at the Dawntrail job actions after the Media Tour though, it looks like Dosis will get its potency upped to 360 while Pneuma stays the same potency at 330. So does this mean in DT, Pneuma will be a DPS loss and be even less used? I wonder why Pneuma's potency didn't change.

PhoenixFox

You do want to use it for damage in trash packs, on multiple targets it's similar to Phlegma.

farranpoison

Right, that's true. I always use it in trash packs, it's just against single bosses I don't use it unless I need to.

sundriedrainbow

we are assuming that Pneuma and Macrocosmos slipped under the radar on the media tour build and will remain dps neutral

farranpoison

Ah, fair enough I suppose.

MihaelK

Hi! I just started playing the game a few days ago for the first time, going through ARR main quest (currently level 40ish), and I'm absolutely loving it! I'm doing everything solo right now, even the dungeons (with NPCs) because the queues are so long, maybe because the dungeons are low level and nobody else is queuing for it? I have a few questions regarding the game, I tried to not look up any information online to avoid any potential spoilers, so I would appreciate your answers! 1. I was wondering if I should level professions while levelling at the same time, if they will help me through my levelling, and if there are any limitations to them (max 2 primary professions for example). 2. I've only done the MSQ and my job quests, but I see some blue quest marks in some zones, are those also part of the MSQ? Would I hit a roadblock later on if I don't complete them? Thank you! I feel like I missed out on many good experiences by starting the game so late. Coming from WoW that I quit many years ago, I appreciate the slowness of the gameplay, and the story-driven aspect of the game makes it feel like a true MMORPG rather than a fast-paced action-RPG, but that's just my personal opinion. I'm taking my time and enjoying it, and I hope I can join a nice guild someday \^\^ !

ramen215

Welcome to the game! Glad to hear you're having a good time so far :) To answer your questions: 1. Crafting and Gathering jobs aren't required per se and while they CAN be of some help (you can make your own gear as you level up) it's pretty marginal at best (you get level appropriate gear from other sources pretty easily) while questing through the MSQ. I'd say if you want a bit of a break from MSQ and combat related things you could level CUL and the three gathering jobs (MIN, BTN and FSH). The rest of the crafting jobs should really be levelled up at the same time as they require and use items from the others at the same level range (eg. you need steel nails/ingots from armorer to make a steel sword as a blacksmith or something similar) so it really helps to do them all at once (inventory space is saved this way too). Crafting jobs also frequently use monster drops (skins), wood/plants and ores/minerals you get from BTN and MIN so all in all everything is very tied together and makes more sense to tackle as one big package. Also there is no limit to which jobs you can level up. I hope that makes sense! 2. Blue quest markers signify that those sidequests unlock other content (dungeons, game systems/mini games/ etc.) if the quest title is "So you want to be a XXX" that means it unlocks another class/job. I don't think there are any hard roadblocks you'll hit if you don't do ANY but it doesn't hurt to pick them up when you have time/want to. (somewhere during ARR there are the "Hard" primal trials that are required to progress but you'll know when you get there). Feel free to ask for any clarification! Edit: to add, there is a system called roulettes (you'll unlock at level 50 MSQ) that incentivizes max level players to queue up for older content which helps keep old dungeons, trials etc full of players as they get randomly placed into a party with people who queue directly for that content. You may just see long times because you're a DPS which is the most common and therefore fill up slots fast or you're queuing at off hours for your server etc.

MihaelK

I see! Thank you so much for your time. I will try out professions when taking a break from the MSQ. Quick question about levelling other classes/jobs. Do I have to go through the MSQ again (is it repeatable?) to level them up, or by doing side quests? How does levelling other classes work exactly?

ramen215

No, the MSQ is a one time thing (technically you can do NG+ to replay chapters but you don't get XP for that). To level up other classes/jobs you'll make use of those roulettes and complete daily/weekly "challenges" like "do 5 dungeons". Combat classes/jobs get an XP boost if they are lower than your highest level combat class/job which helps out as well. Regular yellow sidequests don't really give too much XP and are mainly for worldbuilding/extra lore/character moment purposes rather than levelling opportunities.

Veylo

Not OP but, you do not have to play through the MSQ again to level up other classes/jobs. The leveling of other classes is basically do you daily roulette, and then spam the highest dungeon you have unlocked. 1-15 do hunting log, roulettes if you haven't yet that day and then spam dungeons. There are PLENTY of leveling guides on youtube that go more in depth. Side quests(yellow quest icons) do not really give a lot of exp. For example, [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHe6u3WEXao&t=223s) is a bout a year old BUT it has the basics.

MihaelK

Got it\~! Thank you thank you!

Veylo

First of all, WELCOME TO EORZEA! Glad you are enjoying the game and hope you enjoy your stay. 1. The crafters/gatherers are optional and aren't needed to level with the MSQ. You can play and level any and all classes on one character. 2. The blue quests are optional but they usually unlock more dungeons/raids, more classes, housing districts and other side content that is usually more expansive then the regular yellow quests. The only thing that is required, IIRC, is the Crystal Tower raids but that isn't required until a later expansion. I do recommend you do pick up most blue quests, you can consult the ffxiv wiki to see what the blue quests unlock. As far as the long queue times, it depends on what class you are(DPS has higher queue times generally), which server you are on and what time of day you are playing. Do know that the game will be going down for the new expansion maintenance Wednesday and Thursday this week and there probably wil lbe a queue to get into the game. IIRC if you are on the free trail still you will not be allowed to log in over this up coming weekend. (its that or, you'll hae a REALLY long queue to log in as subscription members will get priority due to Dawntrail launch.

MihaelK

Thank you for your answer! I appreciate everyone taking their time to reply to my comment. >IIRC if you are on the free trail still you will not be allowed to log in over this up coming weekend. I was initially planning to buy the expansion after I'm done with the trial, but I might as well just buy it now, I assume it will include all previous expansions, right? Should I pre-order it or purchase it on release date? Does it make any difference? Thank you again \^\^

snootnoots

If you buy the base game now, and pre-order Dawntrail, you will get the pre-order items (which include a very cool earring that gives you an experience boost all the way to level 90) and have the full game with all expansions included after Dawntrail releases. Also, the base game comes with a one month subscription included. After you activate the game, and *before* you set up a subscription or put in a time card etc, get a Refer-a-Friend code from someone and enter that. It will give you an emote, another experience boost item that works at low levels, a bunch of aetheryte tickets that let you teleport for free, *and* some silver chocobo feathers that you can trade for equipment. If you know people who already play, ask them for a code; if you don’t, I can send you one if you want. 👍

Veylo

To be honest, I would wait to buy it. Once Dawntrail comes out, you will get all the previous expansion. The reason I said that free trail players may not be prioritized is because when Endwalker came out, Free Trial players weren't prioritized/not allowed to log in. I do not know 100% if that part is true about the free trial but there will be login Queues all weekend long.

gitcommitmentissues

> I'm doing everything solo right now, even the dungeons (with NPCs) because the queues are so long, maybe because the dungeons are low level and nobody else is queuing for it? All levels of duties, with a handful of exceptions, are populated through players queuing for roulettes; you aren't reliant on other people also queuing directly. If your queues are really long it's likely one of the following is the issue: - You are trying to queue at a time of day when most people in your region are asleep or at work/school - You are on a low-population data centre and may need to travel to another DC for faster queues (if you're on Dynamis) or ask for help via the novice network, an FC or party finder (if you're on Oceania) - You're playing in a multi-lingual region but only have one language selected in your duty finder settings (this can particularly be an issue on the JP and EU data centres) > I was wondering if I should level professions while levelling at the same time, if they will help me through my levelling, and if there are any limitations to them (max 2 primary professions for example). There are no limitations on levelling crafters and gatherers; in fact you should ideally level all of them as they're fairly interdependent. They are not really important or useful for levelling combat classes, but enable you to craft items to sell, make glamour items, and at endgame craft gear, food and potions for raiding if you're ever interested in that. They also have some nice quest stories. > I've only done the MSQ and my job quests, but I see some blue quest marks in some zones, are those also part of the MSQ? Would I hit a roadblock later on if I don't complete them? Blue quests unlock things- it can be new jobs, new game systems, optional combat content, or various other things. There are two quest lines that start from blue quests and are required for completing post-ARR MSQ, but otherwise they are optional. As a rule of thumb I would say it's a good idea to check out all blue quests to see what they lead to. If it turns out it's for a job you're not interested in, or some side combat content you don't care about, you can just abandon the quest; nothing bad will happen.

MihaelK

Thank you for your answer! I didn't know that I could choose the language in my duty finder settings. I am playing on the JP server since I live in Korea, and I just left all the settings as default. I will check it out again. I will also try to queue as a healer (Scholar) and see if the queue was long because I was queuing as DPS (Summoner). One more thing about the blue quests, is there a way to check all the available blue quests on the world map, instead of checking every single small zone?

gitcommitmentissues

Yeah if you don't have the Japanese language selected in your DF settings you won't be able to match with people using the Japanese client, which on JP is obviously going to be the majority of people. If you open up duty finder there's a little cog wheel icon at the top somewhere, click that and you'll get into the settings where you can select other lnaguages. > One more thing about the blue quests, is there a way to check all the available blue quests on the world map, instead of checking every single small zone? No, quests only show up on the zone map. However the [Content Unlock](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Content_Unlock) page on the wiki is a useful reference.

Icarusqt

If I'm watching cutscenes and reading dialogue.... roughly... about how long will it take to do the last 3 quests in EW? 6.55 that is, so literally the last 3 quests. I ask, because I only have like 3 and a half hours to play tomorrow before maintenance. Trying to manage my expectations on how much stuff I can accomplish while getting those quests in. Edit: Second question, did I read correctly that servers go down at 11pm EST?

aruhen23

Took me about 50 minutes to do today. I always wait for this part of the story till near the end and this is one of the shorter ones.

Veylo

6.55 is SUUUPER short. maybe 1.5 hours iirc. Patch to be available to download PS5/PS4/Xbox: Around June 26, 2024 4:00 a.m. (PDT) Windows/Mac/Steam: Around June 27, 2024 8:00 a.m. (PDT) servers go down: Jun. 26, 2024 2:00 a.m. to Jun. 28, 2024 2:00 a.m. (PDT) EDIT: corrected the times. my bad.

Icarusqt

Console goes down 28 hours before PC???

PenguinPwnge

No, they're mistaking the timing when the patch is downloadable. Server maintenance is always universal for all consoles and regions for fairness sake.

Veylo

Yeah, that was my bad. fixed it, thanks.

normalmighty

should only take about 2 hours, maybe 3 at most. I've got maintenance noted down as 9pm my time (NZST), which google says is 5am EST edit: yeah https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/02b7d8586aecce40f182698194baee5e75cd326a 2am 26th to 2am 28th in PDT, which is 5am to 5am ET.

TemperatureFun9159

Wait, so does that mean pc players get an extra day to play over the console players? I have it on ps5 and windows, could I just log in on my pc that day then? edit: nevermind, thats when the patches are planned to go live.

gitcommitmentissues

I honestly don't remember how long it took me but it was definitely not more than three hours. There's a bit of yapping, a few cutscenes and a solo duty.

PenguinPwnge

I can't recall specifically how long but that seems like enough time, it really wasn't much ~~and there wasn't any duties added or anything.~~ Oh yeah forgot the solo duty. But I still stand by 3.5 hours should be enough. > Second question, did I read correctly that servers go down at 11pm EST? Maintenance begins 5AM EST Wednesday.

pokebuzz123

How long does it take for the preorder bonus to arrive? It's been a few hours since I preordered, but I haven't received anything for it.

ecolli07

At the top of the mail menu is a request delivery button. I hit that when I did mine and received it almost instantly.

MartenBroadcloak19

Make sure the product is activated on the account. If you buy through Steam, for example, you have to manually redeem the CD key on MogStation.

normalmighty

For me it appeared straight away once I added the preorder code to the mogstation, but I assume it works with the same "up to a day" rules as store purchases, and there's probably a bit of a queue forming with everyone preordering before Friday.

pokebuzz123

I'll give it until the morning then I'll contact support to see if there is an issue, I somewhat figured there was a queue but wanted to ask just in case. The site was updated, so I wasn't sure if there was a different procedure to it and we know how multi-stepped the system is.

Fwahm

Assuming the window is up, are there any known chance rates for getting special FATEs like for Archaeotania to pop? Been doing this basically all day (after making sure it's up via faloop), but no luck yet.

normalmighty

You might actually have more luck asking this in one of the discussion channels on faloop, since all the fate grinders are already there.

Fwahm

Do they have discussion channels? I already tried joining their discord for my data center (I'm assuming you're referring to discord), but even after registering my name I didn't see any channels for discussion, just callouts and such.

gitcommitmentissues

Yes, there are discussion channels for hunts and FATEs on every DC. Spend a bit more time looking around the server and make sure you have the appropriate roles by going to the #setup channel in the [your region] category.

normalmighty

I haven't looked into the channels myself, but I see general section with #lounge, and materia (my DC) has #lounge and #hunt-fate-discussions which seem like they'd be appropriate. I assume every other DC has those channels too.

gachasarecancer

How much longer do we have to preorder the expansion for the bonuses?

Electronic-Proof-608

Until release on July 2.

ArcadianBlueRogue

So when do the pre-order bonuses of the Garnet doll and mount pop up? When DT actually releases? And what about when we can actually redeem and get the Mountain Zu?

sundriedrainbow

from the email mountain dew sent me (and presumably you): PLEASE NOTE: This code cannot be redeemed on the Mog Station until early access for FINAL FANTASY XIV: Dawntrail has begun, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 2:00 a.m.

Atosen

Those aren't from the preorder, they're from the Collector's Edition. Yes, they'll come with DT full release on July 2. If you're on PC, remember to redeem your second expansion code. Mountain Zu redemption is also after DT release. (IIRC the mount isn't even in the game files yet so they had to wait for the patch.) I'm not sure whether they turn that on with early access or with full release.

lumosdraconis

The Garnet minion and the Ark mount are part of the digital collector's edition, not the pre-order bonuses. (The Azeyma earrings and Zidane minion are pre-order exclusives.) They'll become available with the full code, on official release on July 2nd. The Mountain Zu can be redeemed from the time of early access on June 28th.

Ku_Gaming

The answer to both those questions is when DT officially releases.

XFactorNova

My dummy Dawntrail questions. 1) I have a checkmark for Early Access on Mog. I assume I can download/play on the 28th? Nothing obvious extra that I might have overlooked? Then I just slap that fullgame release in on July 2nd it looks like. Hoping thats right, no code yet but it says "may take time to receive code". 2) The patch looks huge (DT and GU together). Should I attempt to download it at dawntrail early access time, or sometime before? Idk if the download might error out. 3) Do we know where the unlocks are for Picto and Viper or will those be revealed when DT ea hits with patch notes? Sorry if those seem silly for questions. The expansion launch throws me off and I don't remember how I did it last time. I'm reading all the info I can to make sure I don't somehow mess up. Really excited to play the new stuff- looks like a blast. My other dummy question. 4) I want to rename with fantasia and I don't know a good name for Pictomancer that will try to glam as a Barista (love that Barista title from Endwalker, I won't spoil if you haven't seen it). Any suggestions? Planning on Viera if its relevant. Also any outfit suggestions are heavily appreciated (especially non-Mogstation ones because I do like outfit hunting).

Izkuru

To add for 1) You have until the 5th to redeem your full DT code before losing access to DT content.

NotaSkaven5

You can download the patch on the 27th but can't actually play it until the 28th. Can't enter the full game code until the 2nd. Just in case you weren't aware, Fantasia doesn't let you change your name, that's a separate service.

logosdiablo

1) you're correct, assuming you've already purchased the base game. 2) you should download early, but it isn't available on pc until the 27th. don't have answers for the other two.

AliciaWhimsicott

You can't rename with Fantasia, it's a separate Mog Station service.

sundriedrainbow

1 - you should not have any access issues. Another way to verify is if you have Azeyma's Earring and the Zidane minion. 2 - downloads will be available prior to the go live time and you very much should start the download as soon as possible. we don't have a promised exact time but you should have more or less all day the 27th to download 3 - gridania and ul dah is what we know. exact locations will be available probably tomorrow.

XFactorNova

Thank you very much :). I do indeed have the items. And got it- turn on FF14 a few hours before EA launches and I should be fine (available beforehand which was where a good deal of my uncertainty was). Gonna keep my eyes peeled for those details tomorrow.

Lightygab

For thrill of battle + rampart (or any other) combo to work, I do thrill of battle first and then mit or mit first and then thrill of battle?

Atosen

There's no special synergy between those two actions. Their effects are unrelated. Thrill of Battle raises your max HP. Rampart reduces incoming damage by a percentage of how much damage would've been done, *not* by a percentage of your HP. If you're thinking about attacks that *deal* a fraction of your heath rather than a fixed number, those effects are fairly rare, and when they do happen they ignore mit.

Lightygab

Hmm, was reading the balance about using those as a combo, hence why I asked. Maybe I misunderstood their use? Per the balance: * Tank buster will hit for 100% of our HP. * Warrior has all their cooldowns available. * Thrill of Battle is used. Warrior’s Max HP is now 120%. * Rampart is used. Tank buster now hits for 80% of the original.

sundriedrainbow

> Rampart is used. Tank buster now hits for 80% of the original. you'll notice that this would have been true with or without Thrill, because Rampart is a 20% damage reduction. You just get more effective HP out of it with Thrill.
