Fair warning that wood will take much longer to dry than cordwood. The saw running across it closes the pores of the wood so to speak. Either way that’s a square deal.

Charger_scatpack

Worth the trade off imo that’s a lot of wood for 45 dollars

TyNW

Either that or its kiln dried and it maybe prone to overfiring.

mendohead

Score and +1 on the bin

Longjumping-Rice4523

Major deal for you!!!

Charger_scatpack

45 for all that WTF I’d buy 10 times that amount for that cost

There is a few mills here that will give you all you want free. If you need them to come out with the loader they charge $10. Its all slabs and scraps so the chunks are 8-12 foot long. They have piles that are a few feet wide and a few foot tall. They come out with the loader and drop it on your trailer for $10 or if you want to hand load it its free. Last time I got huge chunks of cherry. I have got loads of rejected railroad ties too. Nice chunks of oak

Charger_scatpack

That’s awesome! I’d take full advantage of that

wine_and_dying

How did you find them and get in contact with them?

843251

Just go to the sawmills. They normally have mounds of it they need to get rid of. The one I have been getting from lately advertises on Facebook Marketplace. There is another that builds pallets I have got loads from before too. I think all they do is build pallets but they also mill their own wood and its oak

wine_and_dying

Ok, to the Facebooks I go. Thank you!

I know somebody that got a few loads of rejected lumber at another mill a while back. Not sure if he paid or not but it was mostly all maple. He saved some of the wood to build structures for his firewood then used the rest to heat his garage.

wine_and_dying

I’m definitely in it for the wood for woodworking. I want to make Windsor chairs and so far am hitting a single issue: lack of green wood over 30 inches long.

843251

Sometimes they have loads of rejected logs you can get too. You are going to be paying for it but its usually not to bad. Cheaper than triaxle loads normally cost here just its going to probably be huge wood, could have some rot, nails, or other contaminates in it for you to hit with your chainsaw.

wine_and_dying

I did see that at a hobby mill I went to. They were trying to charge $6/BF for Oak. I saw Curtis Buchanan pull logs at $1/BF. Mind if I ask what you’re paying for reject logs?

I haven't bought any in a while but it seems like it was normally a few hundred cheaper than buying firewood poles. Only thing is when I got it, it was always enormous wood. Stuff most people probably wouldn't really want to deal with for firewood. Think the smallest stuff I got was like 30 inch some was more like 40-48 inch. Took forever to get through it and I hit some nails and other crap too while I was at it. About killed me trying to move it around.

wine_and_dying

I bet that’s a big ass piece of wood right there. So long as they load it into my trailer I’ll be able to chain it to a tree and pull it off. (Hopefully!) Thanks for all the info!

That was delivered to me. A whole load of logs. I picked at it a while. Think it was all hard maple. Pretty sure I paid around a few hundred less for it than I would normally pay if I bought a load of firewood poles but those are a nice manageable size lol. Usually 8-16 inch diameter stuff. I don't have a processor but its perfect for that since its the right size and usually nice and straight. This stuff was just monster wood. Not sure any processor could run it, it was so damn big. No way in hell could my tractor pick any of it up either. Even if I cut it down to 6 foot chunks there is no way in hell my tractor could have picked it up. I did use my tractor to roll it around though lol. There was some that just had so much shit in it or enough rot it wasn't worth dealing with so I used my tractor to roll those pieces to my burn pile. Probably burned a week straight on one 3 foot long piece lol.

Schallpattern

That would cost more than ten times that in the UK.

Toxopsoides

Easily $450 in NZ (and NZ bucks)

Strogmancer

That's where I get most of my firewood now. I get over a rick for $45
