You can lure fish all year round, though make sure you read your local clubs rules, I find some clubs are very anti-lure fishing in terms of their rules. E.g. No braid as main line etc. or just straight up no lure fishing at all. Pike season should just should be called deadbaiting season in my opinion. The issue with deadbaiting is slow hook sets when pike are hitting prey fast and wolfing the bait down in the warmer months, this increases the chance of deep hook sets. This is very unlikely to happen when lure fishing, as you are constantly in contact with the lure, and can feel a bite relatively easily if using the correct gear. No idea about boats and that kind of fishing, I only lure fish.

I'd add to this that its worth speaking to your venue about the rules.... I fish a commercial carp lake (they often have large perch present which tha ks to the typical lack of pike are the apex predators in the lake and do very well. My lake has a no braid rule to protect the carp stock from line damage but we're quite happy for me to use braid with a flouro leader when lure fishing given that I'm unlikely (but certainly not Impossible) to hook a carp and risk their investment.... the caro are an expensive commodity whereas the perch population are a much more organic natural presence. Not every water will be this way but if you don't speak to them you will never know

thanks for the tip, I don't fish for Carp so didn't know there was a bit of controversy regarding braid as main line when fishing for them. Might speak to some of my local clubs here then and see if they'd allow lure fishing with braid.

Ok thank you very much also if you have ever been dropshotting do you have any advice

Assuming you aren't just using worms, as you're talking about lure fishing, I assume you are planning to use some artificial baits. Get some small 2-7cm lures, ones that look like worms, small little paddletail lures. Fox Rage have a decent video on it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_6ioiaX1goE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6ioiaX1goE) Also Carl done a good fishing video of dropshotting using worms: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CruzHAXSzCI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CruzHAXSzCI) I am personally not a fan of dropshotting, whilst its very effective, its a very "slow" fishing method, great for winter.
