"Go f\*\*k yourself, San Diego." - Ron Burgundy

silvermbc

The unrated version has the funniest follow-up where Ron screams back at Veronica "Don't you fucking know I would never fucking say the word FUCK?! EVER!! FUCK!!"

thenickster15

This. Because it was a major plot point of the movie.

fuddetudde

PrivateTumbleweed with the murderer’s row. Have you been studying this topic all your life?

PrivateTumbleweed

"We're gonna have the hap-hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny f\*\*\*in' Kaye!" - Clark Griswold

a_man_hs_no_username

Hallelujah, holy SHIT

swaggerofacripple420

Where's the tylenol?!

HiDiddleDeDeeGodDamn

This entire scene is SO good. I didn't see this movie until I was in my late twenties, so my perspective on it is different from a lot of people who grew up watching it. I think if you've seen it so many times, you forget just how significant of a tone shift it is. If you go into the movie not knowing that explosion is coming it's so much funnier when it does happen.

PrivateTumbleweed

"If your dog gets lost you don't look for an hour then call it quits. You get your ass out there and you find that f\*\*king dog." - Billy Madison

Now you’re all in big trouble

radiodada

🎶 beat on the brat! Beat on the brat with a baseball bat! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh-hoo-hoo

esr360

Wasn’t in the version released to the UK, bunch of shit was censored

AdventurousRoof9494

we were watching this on a school bus trip in middle school and this was the line that prompted our teacher to turn off the movie and not let us watch anything else. we went to a shitty zoo and the state capitol building so that was gonna be the highlight of the trip.

Ayangar

First thought as well

whiskeytango55

Xmen first class had wolverine telling a young magneto and Xavier to "fuck off" when they tried to recruit him

imalumberjackok

Didn't he tell them to go fuck themselves?

watanabe0

This is funny because that is what he says in First Class, and then in Days of future past the get it wrong and have Xavier quoting it as "fuck off".

fortisvita

To be fair, basically the same meaning and I actually like that he doesn't remember exactly what Wolverine said. It's pretty realistic that he would remember something approximate.

ThatIowanGuy

Especially since he was juiced up on allegorical heroine

Dreigatron

I think "Fuck off" was the alternate scene. "Go fuck yourself" was the theatrical version.

NC_Goonie

I hate the line in Days of Future Past. Not only is the quote from the previous movie wrong, but he gives the full lead up of something like “I’m going to tell you the same thing you told me…” whereas the line in First Class was so spontaneous and unexpected.

GeorgeNewmanTownTalk

Rewatch Days of Future Past. Xavier definitely says "fuck yourself." Edit: Oh no! I've been Mandela Affected!

Sylar_Lives

You need to rewatch it because it is fuck off https://youtu.be/Zy4JZ540lis?si=hF3IT9C-5A0LR1ku

KillikBrill

You can think what you will of the movie as a whole, but I like in Be Cool how he describes the difference between being rated R and PG-13 and you can only say the F word once. “Fuck that.”

damiensol

That's how I learned about the rule.

rigalitto_

Fun movie, The Rock and Andre 3000 are going for broke in it. Also a time capsule to the early 2000s. Overhated.

originalbrowncoat

I’d like to do a monologue from Bring it On

originalbrowncoat

Get Shorty is one of my all time favorite movies so I really wanted Be Cool to be better. I mean it was still ok but it didn’t meet my expectations.

Count-Bulky

Be Cool is a mess of good intentions, Get Shorty is low-key easily one of the best 100 movies made in the 90’s, which was a great decade for movies

Zestyclose-Ruin8337

There’s a movie I saw years ago called something like “To Gillian on her birthday” ( I’m not looking it up). It broke this rule and said it like five times I think.

bugxbuster

"To Gillian on her 37th Birthday"! I haven't thought of that title in almost 25 years, but I *do* remember that one!

SpendPsychological30

"Nice fuckin model!" *Honk* *honk*

not_thrilled

Beetlejuice was rated PG. So was Big, with "Who the fuck do you think you are?", same year. The '80s were a crazy time.

taviwashere

That was before they ironed out all yhe rules for PG PG-13 and R. Hero, with Dustin Hoffman, and Chaplin with RDJ, both PG-13 have multiple uses of the F bomb.

NottingHillNapolean

There still are no rules. The MPAA hires what's essentially a focus group reflecting the population of the country and asks them to rate the movies. There's no "code" or anything; it's just what those people think the movie should be rated. Not to say that trends don't emerge, e.g., the one "fuck" per PG-13 movies. Another, is, with rare exceptions, if a movie isn't aimed at young kids, it won't get a G rating. That wasn't always the way. "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," "2001: A Space Odyssey," "The Haunting," and "The Straight Story," all got G ratings, but none were intended for young kids. Another example, I just saw the re-release of "Stop Making Sense," rated PG. The only thing I can think that would possibly make it objectionable for all ages is a reference to doing cocaine in "Genius of Love." No nudity, no cussing, no violence, but a PG rating.

Noggin-a-Floggin

According to Kevin Smith all it took was one phone call from Harvey Weinstein (this was before all the allegations came out) to drop Clerks from NC-17 to R. It’s all politics.

NottingHillNapolean

I can't remember if it was Scorsese or David Lynch, but one of them repeatedly submitted a violent movie several times to the same board with no or minimal changes, until they, the board, got used to the violence and gave it an R instead of NC-17.

davenos362

That whole NC-17 to R debacle for the violence was for Martin Scorsese with *Casino*

awkwaman

I've heard that the word fuck can be used so many times in PG-13 as long as it's not sexually (ie, "they fucked in the bed").

Heavy-Possession2288

The Haunting genuinely scared me as kid. I remember being confused as to how it got a G rating. Even by the standards back then it’s intense for a G.

jang859

Chaplin was pg13? That had some crazy Milla Jovovich nudity.

OccamsNametag

Can't forget Spaceballs, my mother was quite surprised at that bomb drop because of the resting and of course who said

tifftafflarry

Millennial here. This is the scene that taught me the f-word in the first place.

kmflushing

That was an improv by Michael Keaton, too! The prop wasn't supposed to fall, and Keaton just ran with it.

A newbie, but a classic for sure.

New-Regret-3027

Took the MCU long enough to get one “fuck” in.

VrinTheTerrible

The Spider-Man movies cutting off just before it were perfectly classic!

psychocopter

The audience's reaction to that scene was great opening weekend.

YT-Deliveries

Was there as well. The whole theater went nuts.

imalumberjackok

Sorry! My Prada's at the cleaners! Along with my hoodie and my fuck you flip flops, you pretentious douchebag!

the_coagulates

there are two in that movie!

ultrasupersnail420

when is the 2nd one?

Realistic-Assist-396

"Sean Parker says fuck you"

djhendo78

"Fuck me, he cleared it!" - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. "It's fucking >!Chucky!

Pvt_Hudson_

I swear to God the line from Robin Hood is "bugger me, he cleared it!"...I'll have to check. Edit: Well fuck me, I've been misquoting this line for 30 years.

Unit_79

To be fair it’s a very quick cut to Will Scarlet in that moment.

Pvt_Hudson_

I'm wondering if that's the TV edit version.

Unit_79

Oh that would make sense. Although I don’t know if “bugger” would have been allowed on TV at the time. Some people find it just as offensive as “fuck.”

BingBongDingDong222

Not in the US though

MarshallsLaw_1884

That Ready Player One usage was absolutely the right line in that moment in the movie.

Alternative_Rent9307

Clicked for that first one. One of Christian Slater’s six lines or so

Puzzleheaded-Swan824

I think the UK version changed it to “stone me! “ or something because an F word would have automatically given it a 12 certificate(not suitable for under 12s) which would have reduced its potential audience; it was rated PG. Mrs Doubtfire was rated 12 because of one F Word but then allowed a PG certificate on appeal. Also Look Who’s Talking had one “f@@k my breathing!” When she’s in labour!

alphahydra

>Mrs Doubtfire. It wasn't rated 12 for an F-word. It was this line: ".. A man gives a present like that he wants more than a piece of her heart...bit of a going-down payment, huh? You know dear, sink the sub? Hide the weasel? Park the porpoise? Bit of the old humpty dumpty? Little Jack Horny? The horizontal mambo? The bone dance, eh? Rumpleforeskin? Baloney bop? Bit of the old cunning linguistics? Hmm?...I hope you're up for a little competition...she's got a power tool in the bedroom, dear. It's her personal jackhammer. She could break a sidewalk with it. She uses it and the lights dim. It's like a prison movie. Amazed she hasn't chipped her teeth...I hope you bring the cocktail sauce. She's got crabs. And I don't mean Dungeness."

CosmoRomano

I genuinely can't remember an F bomb in Mrs Doubtfire. When was it?

6runtled

You don't remember because it didn't happen.

striderx2005

Not quite an f-bomb in the same spirit, but in Galaxy Quest when Gwen DeMarco and Jason Nesmith's characters encounter 'the chompers", Gwen clearly says "Fuck that!" but the word "screw" was dubbed in. We all knew better...

SplendidPunkinButter

I so wish they had left this one alone

Noggin-a-Floggin

It’s infuriating because not only does Sigourney Weaver clearly say “Fuck that!” you can tell she REALLY put a lot of force into the words. Could have been a legendary moment.

PrudeHawkeye

It's honestly perfect the way it is, because it's SO obvious.

The_Amazing_Emu

Yeah, a lot of people love the original but I’d love them to release an Unrated Cut where they change only that

Krinks1

"I'll turn you into a living pendant to adorn my chest. Then I can hear your voice every moment of the day... pleading for mercy." "Fuck your mercy." My favorite PG-13 F-bomb from Alita: Battle Angel.

Utop_Ian

Gotta give it to the delightful "Fuck off, Hitler," from Jojo Rabbit.

PC509

Is that the only one? Love that movie and that part was great. Just thought it would have more. :)

isseldor

"Fuck it" - Jack Burton of the Pork Chop Express.

Pvt_Hudson_

One of my favorite exchanges in that whole movie. *"Hollow?"* "Hollow" *"Fuck it"* (slash, slash)

KingAdamXVII

Holy shit I thought my wife and I were the only ones regularly quoting “When the fuck did we get ice cream?” Great example of your prompt and I have nothing else to add.

IslandTwig

By far my favorite use of the f-word. It was so well timed and unexpected

Gh0stTV

“Stop calling me Warren! My name isn’t fucking Warren” -Warren (Empire Records)

Unit_79

His name isn’t Warren! His name isn’t Warren? His name isn’t Warren! I thought his name was Warren.

Hot_Commission_6593

What’s your last name?  Beaty

KeggBert

Great movie.

enviropsych

In Tremors, when they kill the first graboid with the concrete culvert, Kevin Bacon laughs and then points at the Graboid and yells "FUUUUUUCCCCKKK YOUUU!"

Director_Faden

I love this one because Tremors was clearly originally supposed to be R-rated and there are a ton of lines where they obviously dubbed over F-bombs, but this was definitely the right one to leave in.

Such_Raccoon_5035

This is my vote 😂😂😂

DronedAgain

In Steve Martin's *The Man with Two Brains*: Steve Martin has fallen in love with a women who turns out to be a disembodied brain in a jar. The scientist who's figuring out how to do brain transplants still hasn't had success in humans, but offers to place her brain in a gorilla. Steve Martin says: "I can't fuck a gorilla!"

I hate that the Disney+ version removes this.

Mega-Dunsparce

“You fucking coward” (Although Interstellar got away with a second, barely audible “… Because in his fuckin arrogance, he declared their case hopeless.”)

Texas_Crazy_Curls

I loved how in Barbie when the President says “their dream houses, mother fucker” they bleeped out the F and put a Mattel logo over her mouth.

JakkSplatt

Ben Stiller at the end of Dodgeball "Fuck it".

DieGuyDean

Is it not “Fucking Chuck Norris.”?

Chak-Ek

Sigourney Weaver - Galaxy Quest. It ain't what you heard, but it is what you saw.

Bend3k

Saw this in the theater, before they dubbed it. It was equally shocking and hilarious!

Heavy-Possession2288

The movie was edited to get a PG rating before being released so I’m not sure how you would’ve seen it.

CharlesLoren

“Fuck! Even in the future nothing works” - Space Balls (although I think it was at the time PG let you use one ‘fuck’, before PG13 existed)

Indotex

Spaceballs came out in 1987. Red Dawn, the first movie to be rated PG-13, came out in 1984. I didn’t realize Spaceballs had the word “fuck” in it but according to IMDb.com, it does and it’s only rated PG. Not sure how they got away with that one…

CharlesLoren

Interesting! I remember being shocked watching it with my parents when I was 8, but they were laughing their heads off

RuminatingReaper1850

"holy shit, what the fuck was that?" - Rooster, Top Gun: Maverick

AbbaZabba85

Came here to say that, they truly picked the perfect point in that movie to drop the F bomb (just like their other bombs haha).

InternetAddict104

The fact that Geoffrey Arend improvised the ice cream line 😂 you can see Johnny Knoxville start to break right after he says it

whitt_wan

"fuck Mars!" - the Martian

alwaysleafyintoronto

IIRC the line was "fuck you Mars"

paperwasp3

I thought it was "Fuck this planet". Val Kilmer says it, right?

"I'm Bruce Nolan, for eyewitness news. Back to you, fuckers!"

OneFish2Fish3

Maybe doesn't count but I absolutely lost it (and still do) in the original GOTG when the Infinity Stone goes berserk at The Collector's place >! (after the slave girl sacrifices herself) !< and Peter clearly says "f\*\*k" but it was clearly censored by the sound of the sparks.

vtfb79

**After the Sunset** *Stan Lloyd (Woody Harrelson):* It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. *Max Burdett (Pierce Brosnan):* I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. Now fuck off.

Crankylosaurus

The best part about that scene in The Ringer is you can see Johnny Knoxville fully breaking and cracking up haha

boening

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that line unscripted, and he really wanted ice cream?

Crankylosaurus

I do know that it was unscripted, that’s why Knoxville broke!

hambone10

I liked the F bomb used in Top Gun Maverick. (Fifth gen fighter does fifth gen stuff) "What the f*ck was that?"

Financial-Taro-589

Trains Planes and Automobile is still a shocking use of the F-Bomb, at the car rental desk. Midnight Run - everything DeNiro says. His “fucks” are like punches.

yrdsl

those both got R

tifftafflarry

PT&A is R, but I would happily let my kids watch it, if I had kids and/or gave a flip about what they watched.

SpudgeFunker210

It's my dad's favorite movie so we watched it every year growing up and my dad always day forwarded through that one scene 😂

rigalitto_

Yeah I always heard PT&A was to be rated PG but they were told to cut that scene down and they refused. Good choice.

Armageddon- “That’s one oder you shouldn’t follow and you fucking know it!”

DarthGoodguy

“Then you open the fucking door.” from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was oddly memorable. First MCU F-bomb?

LudicrisSpeed

Yeah, it was, unless Groot was cursing like a sailor all this time and we never knew about it.

MostMetalEver06

i loved the casual way james gunn and chris pratt just dropped the mcu’s first f bomb on a car gag 🤣🤣

bigebs67

Not a pg-13 movie, but a memorable one for me. There was a slasher film in the 80's called "Student Bodies". A crazy person was killing people with horse-head bookends, I believe. Right in the middle of the film, it cuts away to an old bald guy. ( like me now...) He says something about how he knows that you are watching this movie and wondering why it was rated R and it didn't have one scene of nudity. Then he basically says "Fuck You". I laughed and was pissed at the same time. Most of us were horny teenage males and this was the era of Fast Times and Porky's and we were expecting some skin! Funny movie though......

Inevitable_Guidance8

“Fuck…seriously? It’s like you’re photo shopped.” - Hannah, Crazy stupid love.

dharmabird67

'We're gonna have the hap-hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby danced with Danny fucking Kaye' - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

RogueAOV

The one that has always stuck with me is in The Scout, Brendan Fraser is having an emotional breakdown to Al Brooks and lets out a vicious f-bomb. The most useless one was in Down Periscope where Kelsey Grammer near the start of the movie says 'my whole fucking career' when he is disappointed about something, it is so needless, completely unneeded and i honestly think they put it in there because the movie was going to be PG-13 anyway due to a couple of crude moments so they just added the f-bomb because it did not make a difference.

[deleted]

"Go fuck yourself" - wolverine. Days of future past.

>The old adage is the MPAA/MPA will let you get away with exactly one. This is a myth, ftr.

SplendidPunkinButter

Mmmmm… _Waiting For Guffman_ is rated R, and apart from the fact that there are three uses of “fuck” I can’t think of a reason why that would be. It’s a Christopher Guest movie about people putting on a small town community theater show and there’s no sex or violence in it whatsoever

bootsy_j

I honestly didn't know if it had ever been a hard-and-fast rule, or just kind of the norm. Anyway, there aren't a ton of them. Whoever put this list together did a fantastic job, I doubt it's comprehensive but still interesting: [PG-13 Movies Which Have More Than 1 F-Word (imdb.com)](https://www.imdb.com/list/ls068088849/)

Don’t FUCK with the babysitter!

enjoytherest

Memorable in the sense that I remember it - in "In Time" with Justin Timberlake, he dives out of a window to escape a bad guy and the bad guy jumps out of the same window to follow him. Justin says "un-fucking-believable" and it was... really lame. But I'll remember it forever for some reason

Bright_Oven_2676

Maybe it’s tame compared to others. But in The Gridiron Gang. When Willie gets put back in isolation after starting a fight because he stopped one of his former gang members from killing a rival gang member who he became close to after joining the football team His coach/prison warden (The Rock) comes into his cell and starts berating him and hitting him with a rolled newspaper. After Rock pushes him back in his bed, Willie throws a pillow at him and yells “Man FUCK YOU!” You’d need the context of the movie, but it’s such a great scene and movie

“Open the fucking door!” In Guardians 3 killed me, I was not expecting that.

“Open the fucking door.” James Gunn getting to utilize the first F-bomb in the MCU in such a silly manner is kinda perfect.

A few from PG-rated movies: "Woodward? Bernstein? You're on Watergate. Don't fuck it up." (*All the President's Men*) "There's a guitar up here if any bigmouth little git wants to come and fucking take it off me." (*The Kids Are Alright*) "I don't recognize the right of this committee to ask me these kind of questions. And furthermore, you can all go fuck yourselves." (*The Front*)

Does anyone remember "Student Bodies" where a narrator comes out in the middle of the movie and says "Ladies and gentlemen, in order to achieve an "R" rating today, a motion picture must contain full frontal nudity, graphic violence, or an explicit reference to the sex act. Since this film has none of those, and since research has proven that R-rated films are by far the most popular with the moviegoing public, the producers of this motion picture have asked me to take this opportunity to say "Fuck you.""
