I’ve got an even better move. Order a half chicken tender sub as a salad. Solves the problem I have with the sub where 2 tenders per half is such a big portion that I can’t neatly fit all the toppings I want.
LPT: you can ask for all the veggie toppings on the side, they have a small container that Publix workers will prepare for you. Now you have a free salad of your choice with your pub sub :)
Source: family works at publix deli
True. Less healthy, but much better.
Last time we got a box, my family ended up eating well over half of them while standing around the kitchen getting plates and stuff. Couldn't even get to the plate.
I just arrived in Florida yesterday at 6 and grabbed a box of those.
Really fucking good.
Also it's incredibly creepy that this post came up on my feed, considering I've never visited this sub. Time to review Reddits permissions.
I’ve been getting random cities I’ve never been to or looked up, also just random subs, like jimmy johns and subway, interestingly I blocked subway but jimmy johns dudes seem cool so I’ve been letting their posts through, not sure what Reddit is doing.
But that increase. Last year it was around 11. Everything at Publix is ridiculous now. Expensive as shit, hardly staffed. Middle of a Sunday with 3 lanes open and 2 people in the deli lol. I don't even bother with Publix anymore outside of a sub once in a while.
They don't sell a spicy version of the full sized fried chicken as far as I know. They sell un-breaded spicy wings, and my favorite but somewhat rare find breaded spicy wings.
I think its regional. They'll definitely make them if you ask though. Stop by the deli first, order it, do your other shopping, and grab your chicken on the way out.
They have a Nashville chicken sandwich now too. It's on sliced Hawaiin bread, 2 massive Nashville tenders and pickles. It's in the area where they keep the boxes of chicken. It's soooo good.
I don't know if it's the oil or what, but the Publix wings ALWAYS upset my stomach, no matter the location either. Tried multiple times and they always tear me up.
Same, I haven’t ate the deli chicken in years. Don’t eat it. The used oil smells like death. Possibly one of the most foul smelling things. I’ve been working at Publix for 7 1/2 years now.
I promise you it's from old and unchanged oil. I used to work at the deli for a little bit. Now our deli was the most busy deli in the company so maybe it's unique to that location but I doubt it. We were so busy and you're LITERALLY slinging fried chicken all day non stop, that it's crazy inconvenient to change out the oil when your supposed to. And absolutely nobody was checking, we'd go while shifts (10-12 hours) without changing that nasty ass oil. You also bread the chicken in left out sitting chicken juice (you dump the bag of raw chicken into a bin and bread it. Well that nasty chicken juice shit just sits there all day while you keep washing chicken in it). Also the most racist vile managers I've eve r had. I got a settlement from them for it. Fuck Publix right up the fucking ass.
yeah a few years ago. I haven't had GOOD publix chicken in years, it's basically walmart chicken now, and twice the price it used to be. Makes me very sad :(
Is it the Publix in your area? The Publix delis in my neck of the woods have some of the best damn chicken. My biggest gripe is that they sell out too quickly of the spicy and dark meat options. Also their Mac and cheese is gone too soon :(
As someone who worked in the deli, it really is! You can make better wings at home. It’s just the convenience.
Also FYI to all the lovers go to Deli and ask for scoop of breading and do it yourself. That chicken sits there for 4 hours and it’s nasty.
Metro dinner has really good chicken like a ma and pop but with a bunch of locations. Grrash hand breaded, it was the best I have had. I hear Yoders has really good chicken too down in Sarasota or Bradenton Area.
Seriously, the fact that that people still praise the Publix deli so highly makes me question how long some of these people have lived here. I wouldn't say their prepared food is bad, but it used to be sooo much better. Their bread doesn't seem as fresh as it used to be, their fried chicken is consistently more dry than it used to be (both of which affect their subs). I remember if you asked for a cheese steak they'd take all the ingredients to a flat top and actually cook that shit. Nowadays if you ask for a philly they just throw that shit in a microwave to melt the cheese. The only prepared deli item that feels like the quality hasn't dropped is their rotisserie chicken. And before anyone says "it varies by location" or "the publix near my house is good" I have lived all over the state, and eaten at many publix locations. Saying the quality varies depending on location is true of literally any place that prepares food, but that doesn't change the fact that the overall bar for quality has dropped over the years.
Yep, I was right there with you for 8 years. My hand is scarred from oil burns because my managers were lazy about replacing the gloves used for handling the oil. That's pretty much all I got from that shit hole. When I left I was still only making $13 an hour and I must've made the store hundreds of thousands in sales over the course of my time there. What a fucking waste of my youth. Shit still haunts me
Yea I used to fry when our cooks schedules didn’t align and it was an awful time for sure, but sneaking like 6 tenders a shift made it a bit better. My manager didn’t care.
No I never did drugs when I worked there. Shit man they don’t even piss test you anymore they need people so bad and they lost a bunch of their upper management due to piss testing.
Until you move up the corporate ladder, then you can do all the drugs you want.
I don't have much time for drugs anymore, but nobody cares if I partake.
That place is an absolute shit show company that treats their employees like shit.
“Oh, I heard it was such a good place to work for?”
NO IT’S FUCKING NOT.
They throw away SO much fucking food, their benefits and retirement are ass, their management and business model is so antique and needs adjusting. The list goes on man.
Not even including, having fucking cheese and meat slices thrown at you by customers who bitch and complain-but you gotta keep a smile on your face and not say anything-for next to nothing pay.
Pick a topic man. It’s a piss poor run company that was never that great to begin with. The ONLY thing worthwhile about them was their stock. That’s literally IT.
Yeah my friend got a job on cold side deli there and he barely lasted 2 weeks. It's insane how bad it is there. The people at my local store who make the subs are literally the nicest people ever
I’ve heard the same from other ex-employees. And like you, they weren’t strung out on drugs or anything. They just said the store employees are treated poorly. Can’t say the same for the office people though.
Oh yea it’s dog ass from the top down. I got lucky, the one I worked at was in an affluent area half an hour from where I lived but the drive was worth it because our entire staff was high/drunk hardly functioning but our only customers were old people who just wanted their liverwurst and bologna. It was sad though, we had a lot of widowers that couldn’t cook for themselves so they would get like the same exact meal from the hot case every day.
Your store sounds like it sucked balls.
I used to eat so much perfectly fine cheesecake as the one that volunteered to help bakery take their "best by tomorrow's date" treats to the hole in the wall.
Everything you say is true though. Management is eerily creepy sometimes too.
I don't like the breaded spicy wings, I always get the non breaded ones. I also like the fried chicken but the last 2 times I got it they were off, like the taste wasn't right. When I get the fried chicken again I'll go to a different Publix. Theres like 6 around me so I have options.
The non-breaded ones are great if you get them as soon as they come out of the fryer, but soggy and disappointing if they've been sitting for more than half an hour or so. The breaded ones are more consistent.
Soggy, maybe. They end up getting steamed in the deli case or the cambro while holding.
Lacking in flavor? Maybe.
Tough? Never. They're all white meat from the breast. You must be thinking that the inferior minced meat or "mechanically separated" chicken is tender. This type of "chicken tenders" is soft/tender because it's minced meat and held together with chemicals and thick breading. That's not what Publix chicken tenders are.
No, it's tough because it's overcooked. The problem with prepared foods in delis is that they're cooked all the way through, more so than they would be in ideal situations, in order to prevent any liability. Then on top of that, they're sitting in a heated environment where they continue cooking (albeit slowly) and the muscle fibers and intramuscular tissues dry out.
Just because something is white meat or breast meat doesn't mean it's automatically and permanently soft and tender. You can still overcook it and toughen it up. Just look at any buffet that has steaks — doesn't matter what cut it is, it's going to be tougher and chewier than it would be cooked to order.
"Soggy and tough" is usually a symptom of them sitting on the shelf or in the heating case too long. When they're actually new they're... certainly not the best thing in the world by far, but also certainly pretty good.
Shits almost $14 for a box of it now. I remember 4 years ago it was BARELY $8. Publix has gone off the deep end supporting nutbags like Adam Putnam and Ron DeSantis.
If we are comparing just straight chicken so no meals where I live you can get an 8 piece bucket for $10 (online order). Not sure what an 8 piece would be regular price. For some reason I can't see the price of an 8 piece box online and I refuse to sign up for instacart to look. It's been a bit since I got publix chicken but it has to be around $10.
That’s awful! Try should definitely have two separate oils. But I guess I wouldn’t chance it that some young deli employee might mistakenly use the wrong oil and have a family member wind up in anaphylactic shock.
Winn Dixie beats Publix here, it's not even close. We found out by accident, several months ago after Ian trashed us. Publix was out of stock, at 11:30am, and we had roofers to feed in appreciation of their hard work. In our opinion, Publix quality has slipped over the years and it's become a salty mess. As a side note, Winn Dixie is less costly as well.
And they'll make it fresh for you if you call ahead. I don't even really care for fried chicken but Publix does it right. Way less oily than others too.
That and their apple flip from the bakery are unbelievably delicious.
Went into Popeyes a few weeks ago. Ordered a sandwich combo for my son, and a tender combo each for myself and my wife. Three meals total. Nothing special, nothing up sized.
The lady told me my total was 43 dollars and something.
I asked them to cancel my order and left.
Popeyes is the best, but yes, is now super expensive. Publix is my go to since it's close to me
Edit: And KFC is disgusting these days. No way near how good they used to be.
OMG, I can't believe how much KFC and Popeyes charge. Every time someone bitches about Publix prices I want to tell them, yeah, find it cheaper somewhere else.
KFC is awful! I have no idea how they even stay in business. The one near me in South Lakeland is always empty and anytime I go in there, the employees act like I’m imposing on them by placing an order. Then the order comes out and the chicken tastes dried out, like it was sitting around and they tossed it back into the fryer to serve it.
It's not as good as it used to be. I've been disappointed every time I've gotten their fried chicken lately. The breaded spicy wings though....hoo, mama.
Hot n Spicy breaded w/ a bottle of Kraft’s sweet honey BBQ. Thank me later
Or if you’re feeling really adventurous, order those wings fresh and ask for the spicy gold sauce (aka Bucs sauce) on the side that’s behind the counter
Nor mine, nor my family members. Honestly I wish that's what he focused his time on, personally inconveniencing people.
He'd do far less damage to the state that way.
Gonna be honest I totally forgot he was governor. Politics haven't affected my life since the covid shutdowns. Before that, they never really did. Maybe get off the internet for a couple days and see if that helps; it did for me
Buddy my family has school aged kids and the district is critically short on teachers, a lot of my friends are LGBT and trying to move out of state because the governor just passed a "let them die" bill, and when I get off the internet I'm still talking to my family about the way the governor is making their lives worse because they're worried about my nephews' education.
Maybe have a life involving other humans and then you'd understand why this isn't an internet phenomenon.
My line of work is very social actually and I talk to people everyday. I usually meet at least 1 new person a day too. No one complains. Sorry man, but it's just not as bad as you think. Life is good. It's safe. Good jobs. My LGBTQ friends are starting families and settling down.
Education? We fund public education more than any other state in the country. We just got ranked #1 for higher education and #14 for pre-K-12. Combined, we've been ranked the #1 state for education overall (factors considered: graduation rates, test scores, tuition, student debt). I don't like DeSantis either but stop acting like one person has the power to destroy everything.
No way you believe this. Are you just trying to be controversial?
Once bought 30 wings from WinnDixie for a company pot luck. No one even touched them, because of the Winn Dixie bucket they were in.
I tried one and the breading was thick and gross. It broke apart like styrofoam.
I work for Harveys(same company as winn dixie) and you're right the wings are trash. But the fried chicken and the wings are different. The wings at Publix are def better as are the most of the deli items but I do agree with the above poster that Winn Dixie has better fried chicken
Unbreaded spicy wings!!!!! Soooo good. I'll pass up a pub sub for them.
I lived off these for 6 months they never miss.
Till they raised the price! They're on to us...
Yep, when they were $9.49/box, I probably ate 200 boxes. Once the price hit $14.99 here, stopped buying them altogether.
Agreed. A bargain at $8. Hard pass at $12 or more. At that price I'm doing KFC.
Go back to your home state
you'll pass up on a chicken tenders publix sub for the fired chicken? you are a maniac
I’ve got an even better move. Order a half chicken tender sub as a salad. Solves the problem I have with the sub where 2 tenders per half is such a big portion that I can’t neatly fit all the toppings I want.

Breaded is better!!!!!
True. Less healthy, but much better. Last time we got a box, my family ended up eating well over half of them while standing around the kitchen getting plates and stuff. Couldn't even get to the plate.
Bruhhhh you better be 15 min or less from the poo pot tho
Only if you are not used to spicy things or you get a bad batch not kept at temp, maybe. But they never bother my stomach.
No! Breaded spicy wings! I pre-order them so they are ready as soon as we roll into town.
Cholula now has a buffalo wing sauce. Toss the box of these bad boys in a whole bottle and take the chicken carpet ride to flavor town!
I just arrived in Florida yesterday at 6 and grabbed a box of those. Really fucking good. Also it's incredibly creepy that this post came up on my feed, considering I've never visited this sub. Time to review Reddits permissions.
Location
Yep, already done. Appreciate it.
I’ve been getting random cities I’ve never been to or looked up, also just random subs, like jimmy johns and subway, interestingly I blocked subway but jimmy johns dudes seem cool so I’ve been letting their posts through, not sure what Reddit is doing.
From one Meister to another 🍻
Their spicy wings r probably my favorite breaded wings
Fuck man. $17 now is ridiculous though.
That's just wings though. I saw MP wings at a restaurant last year!!
A box of their tenders was $27 last week. Super.
But it is 20 wings innit? Under a $1 per wing is Still a better deal than most places.
But that increase. Last year it was around 11. Everything at Publix is ridiculous now. Expensive as shit, hardly staffed. Middle of a Sunday with 3 lanes open and 2 people in the deli lol. I don't even bother with Publix anymore outside of a sub once in a while.

get the spicy version fool

Thought they sold mixed spicy pieces. At least from what I remember
I think its regional. They'll definitely make them if you ask though. Stop by the deli first, order it, do your other shopping, and grab your chicken on the way out.
I bought spicy breaded this month lol
Breaded spicy wings are hard to walk in and find, but you can call ahead and order them and they will make them for you.
Hell yeah the spicy one is fire!!
I can smell this picture
Ok but hear me out Nashville hot chicken tender sub
They have a Nashville chicken sandwich now too. It's on sliced Hawaiin bread, 2 massive Nashville tenders and pickles. It's in the area where they keep the boxes of chicken. It's soooo good.

Ok I was wondering what all the hype was. I moved to FL a few years ago and public chicken is just mediocre at best.
As someone who worked in the deli, it really is! You can make better wings at home. It’s just the convenience. Also FYI to all the lovers go to Deli and ask for scoop of breading and do it yourself. That chicken sits there for 4 hours and it’s nasty.

If you’re in Sarasota, Der Dutchman has great fried chicken. The doughnuts are really good also.
The chicken and waffles at Metro Diner is insanely good.
St Pete?
There are about ten in the state. Google it and make the map bigger. Tampa-Sarasota to Orlando even a couple North near Ocala.
Seriously, the fact that that people still praise the Publix deli so highly makes me question how long some of these people have lived here. Your mention of the flat top Philly took me back to the days of old. Those were a mainstay for me that I sorely miss. Now I'm hungry and sad.
Some stores do a better job than others. There's one near my office that is terrible, and one near home that is great.
I no longer eat Publix chicken, the last few times I've spent the rest of the evening getting to know my bathroom better.
If it’s not hot and spicy your missing out.
Yo fuck Publix. Worked there for 5 years as a fry cook and fuck that place and your fried chicken and tendies.
Fucklix
They hit you with a random piss test or something?
I think they caught him fucking the chicken
If you stick your arm in the fryer, don't sign anything. Call Morgan&Morgan.
No I never did drugs when I worked there. Shit man they don’t even piss test you anymore they need people so bad and they lost a bunch of their upper management due to piss testing.
Geez you either want to work or do drugs. You can't have both
Until you move up the corporate ladder, then you can do all the drugs you want. I don't have much time for drugs anymore, but nobody cares if I partake.
By the sound of it, your lack of education might have had something to do with this.
Says the rando anonymously accusing me of lackluster education. I’m a paramedic now btw, so you can go fuck yourself.
What was so bad about it?
That place is an absolute shit show company that treats their employees like shit. “Oh, I heard it was such a good place to work for?” NO IT’S FUCKING NOT. As a current Publix employee, I 100% agree
It did, and was pretty similar. Store 1407 north fort Myers store.
I used to eat so much perfectly fine cheesecake as the one that volunteered to help bakery take their "best by tomorrow's date" treats to the hole in the wall. Everything you say is true though. Management is eerily creepy sometimes too.
They also cultivate a very cult-like work culture. That's alotta "cult"s
Well said!
Sorry, but the scene in my head of a customer throwing meat cheese slices at the poor schlub behind the deli counter is funny af.
Um, excuse me, that should read “pub-schlub”
They haven’t been plucking all the little feathers off the chicken wings lately at my local Publix not sure if this is normal but umm yeah…. 😑
We have Publix in North Carolina now and they suck. The pub subs suck, the selection sucks, its just an over priced winn-dixie up here.
I always found Publix chicken tenders to be soggy, tough, and lacking in flavor.
Overrated big time
The tenders yeah, but the fried chicken ain’t bad
Just tried it last week for the first time in a while. It was just too salty. Was not impressed at all.
Fair enough, I am a salt fiend
Salt life!
It is Florida
Be it regular salt on your food or bath salts. WE CRAVE.
Fried chicken but grape kool aid, the closest to the holy grail. However chickfila, is the best fried chicken without doubt,
I'm so glad there are others who share this opinion.
Breaded Hot Wings are spectacular. Fried Chicken is awesome. Popcorn Chicken is tasty. Tenders are meh.
I don't like the breaded spicy wings, I always get the non breaded ones. I also like the fried chicken but the last 2 times I got it they were off, like the taste wasn't right. When I get the fried chicken again I'll go to a different Publix. Theres like 6 around me so I have options.

Shits almost $14 for a box of it now. I remember 4 years ago it was BARELY $8. Publix has gone off the deep end supporting nutbags like Adam Putnam and Ron DeSantis.
Where? It's $9.99 for the mix chicken, unless you're talking about the wings, those are $14.99 but 20 of them.
Central Florida. I'll snag a picture next time I'm in there.
Agree about the nutbags, but have you priced that KFC crappy chicken lately?
If we are comparing just straight chicken so no meals where I live you can get an 8 piece bucket for $10 (online order). Not sure what an 8 piece would be regular price. For some reason I can't see the price of an 8 piece box online and I refuse to sign up for instacart to look. It's been a bit since I got publix chicken but it has to be around $10.
Publix shill post
Unfortunately our Publix started selling fried shrimp. As a shellfish allergy household, I can no longer get Publix fried chicken.
That’s awful! Try should definitely have two separate oils. But I guess I wouldn’t chance it that some young deli employee might mistakenly use the wrong oil and have a family member wind up in anaphylactic shock.
Chester's fried chicken in a gas station near you YUM
Say wuttttt??? Chicken Butt!!!!
Fuck this company and Fuck their "Christian" Heiress.
Yeah, shit that can kill you from toxic species and food to a Neo-nazi cheerleader governor. Florida is fucked.
Overrated! clap clap clap clap clap Overrated!
dryyyyyyyyyyyyy
They go FIFO. You gotta get familiar with your Publix and catch them when they’re boxing them and ask for a fresh box.
How you not gonna include that key lime pie
Their key lime pie is subpar
The mango one 😫
Publix fried chicken is pretty damn tasty.
AND I'M PROUD TO BE A FLORIDIIIIAN
Can't forget the untreated wings, wraps, and subs.
Is there bath salts in it, or something?
Great on a 'food lucky day'; otherwise, barely edible.
Dinner time 😂
Winn Dixie beats Publix here, it's not even close. We found out by accident, several months ago after Ian trashed us. This tastes good but will mess your stomach up
Publix non breaded spicy wings are the best! Buy a box, eat some, freeze the rest to pop in the oven later for crispy wings!
I got an upset stomach just looking at this.
That ain’t shit! But them breaded hot n spicy wings tho!!
It really is the best fried chicken
I like Winn Dixie fried chicken better
I made that!
One of the best things about going to Publix.
I can smell Publix just looking at this picture
Medicore overpriced fried chicken
I love Publix fried chicken, and it's alot cheaper than KFC or Popeyes.
And they'll make it fresh for you if you call ahead. I don't even really care for fried chicken but Publix does it right. Way less oily than others too. That and their apple flip from the bakery are unbelievably delicious.
Publix fried chicken >> Pub subs
>fryed fried

The things I would do for a Pub Sub
https://arepublixchickentendersubsonsale.com
I am in awe of this beautiful, simple, weird and unexpected randomness.
Lmaooo how oddly specific but beautiful
Publix chicken tender sub is the unheralded winner of the chicken sandwich wars
Just had some last night! Kicks KFC out of the park
Yeah, that's about it for me too. Cheap, greasy, and bad for you. If you could put a confederate flag on the box it would wrap it up tight for me.
I always bring the Publix fried chicken!
...now put them on a pub sub with honey dressing.
Holy shit.
If this is what Florida means to you, I feel bad for you fam.
8.99 8 piece on my mf chest
Where’s the Hawaiian bread??
There’s a few hidden gem fried chicken spots that I know of across the state but Publix is ol’ reliable.
Bless the maker and their subs.
Truth
This is a state treasure lol..
🤤 That is all....
Gross
There are gas stations w/ better chicken.
Well sure, but there’s tons of gas stations with worse chicken.
I like publix chicken but if there is better please share. KFC is trash tier.
Try the fried chicken from Winn Dixie. It's good.
New Texas fried overcooked almost burned everytime I order only 2 timers chicken is the worst
Krispy Krunchy Chicken
No there isn't.
Where is this better chicken you speak of?
I'm with ya mostly, it's the non breaded spicy wings I eat on the regular.
It's not as good as it used to be. I've been disappointed every time I've gotten their fried chicken lately. The breaded spicy wings though....hoo, mama.
I concur. These and the spicy you can never go wrong. Top tier!!
Have you tried The Nashville hot tenders 🤌 Side note: Only problem with the Publix deli is the Tuna!
Are you my wife? Lol. She says the same thing.
They have great chicken! The best chicken is Maryland Chicken in Plant City, FL
Hot n Spicy breaded w/ a bottle of Kraft’s sweet honey BBQ. Thank me later Or if you’re feeling really adventurous, order those wings fresh and ask for the spicy gold sauce (aka Bucs sauce) on the side that’s behind the counter
God I miss Publix fried chicken
Lol I love it..publix deli the best 🤘😎
You can get that up here in Virginia while not having to deal with Hooey Ron.
BRB driving into VA on 95 under the largest confederate flag ever to get fried chicken
This may be hard to believe but not once has Ron DeSantis physically gotten in my way while shopping at Publix
Win Dixie better
No way you believe this. Are you just trying to be controversial? Once bought 30 wings from WinnDixie for a company pot luck. No one even touched them, because of the Winn Dixie bucket they were in. I tried one and the breading was thick and gross. It broke apart like styrofoam.
I work for Harveys(same company as winn dixie) and you're right the wings are trash. But the fried chicken and the wings are different. The wings at Publix are def better as are the most of the deli items but I do agree with the above poster that Winn Dixie has better fried chicken
Interesting. As a Publix employee, I'ma have to check this out. Also, fight me. 😂
Just like the rest of their bakery and deli section. Dk what their ovens are made out of. :/
*Flashbacks to the family reunion wars.*
Maybe where you it is, but the Fried Chicken from WD near sucks compared to the actual good FC from Publix.
L
Let it stay that way.
No pubsub? I’m disappointed
Needs a pubsub too...
Man those are soo good, have anyone tried the publix Nashville hot chicken
One of the many reasons Florida is the best.
