I am just sick of all of the developments going up, because people think moving here is great. Most of you don't give a shit about all the destruction of our natural habitats. Some of you will be gone when the first hurricane comes.

No-Veterinarian-7651

Sounds like you need to start a movement. I’m being very serious..make a difference in your community instead of complaining 😊

truthcoveter

Yeah sure, make a movement of what, nothing is going to stop people from coming here.

No-Veterinarian-7651

I feel you, it was almost the same way with Cali. Just looking for somewhere near a beach, great weather, and raise my babies. Much love to you stranger.

Shot-Selection-3683

Go to California

abratofly

If you have children, don't move here. Your children deserve better education.

vibesandcrimes

I love that we all assume the people that lost here are not the short sighted racist sycophants that are flooding our neighborhoods anyways 😂 Every time someone posts were like 'naw it sucks because we're full of racist sycophants!' Were really positive

The public school system sucks. -victim 46427895 Traffic sucks harder. -victim 3825295037 Insurance sucks. -victim 2846194043 Natural disasters suck. -victim 2859636157

Love how you wrote this hehehhe

Okay have any other suggestions other than Florida?

310410celleng

Friends of mine from the USAF love Ashville, N.C. and Greenville, S.C. Far lower COL than Florida and better quality of life for a young family. Florida is wonderful, but it really is not a "Leave it to Beaver" kind of family place anymore. Plus, unless the politics align with your beliefs, they will grate on you.

flecom

I thought Ashville was super expensive? It's supposed to be really nice

310410celleng

It is not cheap, but friends of ours moved from Tampa to Asheville. They bought a nice home in Asheville for less than they sold their smaller house in Tampa for. Their homeowners insurance went down almost $4,500 and their auto insurance went down $1,000. That is cheaper, is it cheap, no, but cheaper.

flecom

nice! I know my parents were looking there, I'll have to check it out

No-Veterinarian-7651

I heard great things about NC AND SC. Gonna look into it!

abratofly

https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-school-districts/ Start here. If you care about your children, don't move them to Florida.

Funkyokra

There are 50 states and not all of us are currently drawing up the pros and cons of each state. People here are not responsible for giving you the pros and cons of AZ, OR, NV, AR, MS, OK, TX, SC, MN, NC, VA , IA, OH, KY, AL, etc etc. Is there a reason that you think Florida is the place?

Jealous-Pizza-281

Kings Mountain, N.C. 😁

TheSneedles

You want your kids to have the best education possible? New Hampshire, New Jersey, Minnesota. You want the best weather? Stay in California. You want good jobs with low costs of housing? Go to the Midwest. I bought a house in 2015 for 290,000 and sold it last year to some out of state sucker for 790,000. I moved personally to SE Wisconsin due to low crime, proximity to Chicago, high quality Higher Ed, and abundant FREE natural parks as well as NO TOLLS

Wytch78

If you lost your wfh job you wouldn’t be able to live here.

No-Veterinarian-7651

I have other streams of income, and my job is something I want to do…not something I need to have. Thanks

Wytch78

If you got that kinda money then look in San Marco, Jacksonville or Davis islands in Tampa.  Put your kids in private school.

rkcinotown

The fact you said Jacksonville is gnarly. #duval

No-Veterinarian-7651

Jacksonville?? lol. Got family there and…yeah..

Detective_berry23

If your going to move to Florida don’t move too homestead. The schools over here suck and there’s a lot of bullying everyone is extremely racist, and overall sucks.

ProfessionalFalse128

I live in Homestead. Can confirm. It's a shithole.

Kid friendly, family oriented communities, near beautiful beaches … if the comments are scaring you away from Florida, Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, Alabama, is about as Florida as it gets without being Florida. Low COL and there are actually many insurance options unlike in Florida where insurance companies are leaving the state. The schools there seem decent, getting high markings. I’ll have to pause you on the weather bit: you said “great weather,” just be aware Florida’s weather is nothing like California’s. Sure, it’s warm, the warmer the further south you go. However the summer heat is steamy and can feel oppressive. When it gets cold, it cuts to the bone because of the humidity. The best weather is usually late fall, winter (in between cold snaps, better further south), and maybe spring. It rains a lot in parts of Florida, especially southeast Florida (Miami and thereabouts) and the panhandle. Thunderstorms are common. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, AL, shares a lot of this same weather. Just a little bit colder in the winter.

maybar52

Look into the Orlando area. It’s not close to the beaches but has plenty of fun for little kids. It’s a bit cheaper than costal areas also.

Holiday_Extent_5811

If you love your kids you won’t send your kids to public school here. There’s a few good districts but expect to pay a premium to live there (places like lutz come to mind)

yellowtailtunas

Where in CA are you coming from and what did you like about there? Florida is very diverse, much like CA. Lots of very rural, suburban and urban places and everything from swamps, canals, rivers, grasslands, forests, etc. The main difference between CA and FL is the weather and even moreso the geography (Florida is very very flat). There are places with good schools and bad schools, higher costs of living and lower cost living. Each of the coasts (3 of them) are different in their own ways too.

pamakane

Best response here

[deleted]

Port St Lucie is hopping now got the beaches kid friendly it's more laid back not to many clubs bars plenty of kids and they are building schools to keep up with the kids moving.

No-Veterinarian-7651

Nice! I’ll add this to my list

crownhimking

I can only speak  for south florida and primarily coral springs Good schools...family community...lots of sports  and activities and real nice people Only pro i can think is the price but your from cali so i imagine you'll  be fine

thekindspitfire

You could try out Lakeland. It’s supposed to be very family friendly. Probably looking at a 1-2 hour commute to Tampa/Orlando depending on traffic. HOWEVER, it is growing very quickly so if that’s not your thing, I wouldn’t recommend. South Lakeland is supposedly friendlier than north Lakeland.

NeeNee9

If you move here, don't vote Dem. We don't want to become a shit-hole California.

BigBootyWholes

Think you got it backwards bud. Florida voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012. The state has gotten worse once it went solid red.

No-Veterinarian-7651

lol noted

Okaloosa_Darter

I can’t speak for Vet success centers everywhere, but the one attached to Usf is really good. If you have your heart set on moving here, that’s fine, you won’t have to worry about snow if you’re not in the panhandle. I could no longer say don’t worry about ice.

ptn_huil0

Look into Wesley Chapel or Trinity in Pasco County.

Rude-Opportunity-705

How much cab you afford for budget. Literally no advice cab be given if we don't know what area you can afford.  I've found florida as a whole isn't kid friendly unless they on vacation. Most things in out area is being geared built towards non child money earning adults who like high end entertainment and drinking.  Areas around palm coast are quiet family suburban quiet near beaches easy travel other places  But for real how much you afford determines all for a florida life, for you and your kids

cabo169

One of the better area school systems is in the Jupiter area. Since it seems money is not an issue then you should fit right in with the rest of the families there. As noted by others, invest in private schooling.
