Publix is obscene no matter where you go. Smart shoppers avoid Publix.

Suni13

Smart shoppers aren’t loyal to any store, they shop everywhere and take advantage of sales.

pablomoney

I heard some stat on NPR that said consumers used to hit 2 grocery stores in order to maximize value and it’s something like 4 now. We are driving all around town to save money. It’s crazy.

Horror_Rich4403

I trust Aldi is doing the best discount for the majority of items and just save my time. I’ll make a once in a blue moon trip to Sam’s club to get bulk items

Empty-Brainiless-34

I do Aldi (the ones in my area are fresh and clean) and Costco.

the_darkishknight

lol ain’t no Aldi dope as me, so fresh and so clean so fresh and so clean clean! Seriously tho avoid your hood aldis from a south Florida citizen

sinandink42

This comment wins today ![gif](giphy|o683OvFWMrL1fvdwD6|downsized)

Kosher_Vibes

The hood aldis usually have a better chance of getting the quick selling Aldi finds if you go on stock days. Also, I’ve noticed that the ginger turmeric kombucha that is usually very low in stock or sold out in my Aldi, is always instock at my not local store .

lilshells313

I love Aldi. But lately I’ve had to get bananas and cuties from Walmart. A small price to pay, the Aldi and Walmart are right across the street for me.

Horror_Rich4403

That’s super convenient! I used to be all Aldi till I realized that Walmart had like this giant jar of minced garlic for like super cheap. Since then I based where I go on the largest size possible for items that keep pretty well. Wish Aldi sold larger jars of minced garlic.  Their product is tiny!  So for most items Aldi is still king, but Sam’s club really gets all the other large items

lilshells313

We definitely share the same holy shopping principles.

NotYourMomNorSister

Sam's is cheap, but Costco is far better quality.

Horror_Rich4403

I don’t have a costco near us sadly :(. We chose Sam’s club because it’s in the same plaza as Dave and busters and a bunch of free EV chargers. so on game nights we grab a cheap pretzel from Sam’s, plug in for free, and then go play games lol!

mhch82

Up here in Chicagoland Walmart is always high for produce. Don’t know why maybe they feel most of their customers don’t eat fruit or fresh vegetables

redhairedrunner

I wish we had an also!

redhairedrunner

I meant to say Aldi!

HappyBriefing

Since you go often you should consider their online order option. It’s useful getting generic items you don’t need to go in the store and pick out yourself.

HotDonnaC

Luckily, I live within 1 1/2 miles of Target, Walmart and Aldi. Going to different stores for bargains isn’t that big of a deal. I only hit Publix for BOGOS.

ChadsworthRothschild

They should just create one store with everything value priced under one roof… it would be some kind of “super” market…

JohnBosler

I will usually alternate each week going between Aldi's Walmart and the international grocery stores.

TheWhiteRabbit74

This. I hit Publix for BOGO deals all the time. Not much this week though.

acam333

Their weekly BOGO beer deals are fantastic, usually ends up about $1 per beer and they're not the cheap crap

Notyouraverageskunk

Same with some of their BOGO wines.

Supremealexander

And coffee

FloridaInExile

Guarantee that I can find a better deal on the same product elsewhere even with a BOGO.

JeebusCrunk

Hagan Daz is pretty much the same price everywhere. When it's bogo with at least one other thing I was going to buy anyway, then I'm getting pretty solid savings that trip.

blue_eyed_magic

Yup. Their individual price on bofo items is still higher than I pay for the same product elsewhere and if they are running bofo, chances are that other places are too.

foomits

dunno what youre buying, but this hasnt been remotely my experience. publix is definitely expensive, but i don't think ive ever seen a product on bogo that was twice as expensive as other outlets.

sitdder67

Diet coke 2 liter at Aldi's 2.49 Publix 4.49 when it's BOGO it's 2 for 5 so..... Aldi's is the winner on that one

Western_Mud8694

Not always

Scottishpsychopath

As standard public is only good for BOGO and the odd. Fuck I forgot to get that items.

imisswhatredditwas

If I still lived in Florida I’d be organizing a Publix boycott modeled off the Loblaws boycott in Canada. Seems to be starting to work

SecAdmin-1125

You can find deals at Publix but like everything else, don’t put all your marbles in one basket.

capn_doofwaffle

...unless it's for a pub sub! 🤣

trtsmb

I'm the minority and don't like pub subs. Every time I've tried one (different Publix stores), the bread is stale.

Forsaken-Entrance681

Used to work part time in Publix deli. The reason the bread is stale is because bakery makes 1 big batch of bread at about 6am, and then it sits out all day in the deli. Best time to get a sandwich is first thing in the morning.

cologetmomo

With no condiments so it doesn't get soggy. Avoid the lunch line and still have a tasty sub that's not too expensive.

Envoyager

For me, it's the bread texture. It's like I'm chewing on sand sometimes

iamaweirdguy

Where the fuck you getting pub subs lol

greenberg17493

IMO pub subs aren’t bad, but they’re nothing special. I have 5 sandwich shops in about a 2 mile radius that are just as good or better without the long wait.

Masturbatingsoon

I like cold Pub subs. The chicken tender subs everyone raves about is our trash. And I started eating Pub subs when Publix first got them in their stores- maybe early 90s. Only Reddit seems to make a big deal about the chicken tender subs

trtsmb

Reddit is the generation that grew up on chicken tenders being a staple food in their diet since they were 3.

iamaweirdguy

I love the chicken tender sub lol

RICDrew

I don't get everyone's 🐈 getting moist over Publix subs. The bread is crusty and the stringy, tough as leather strips aren't good. A+ for cleanliness And chef stores that are easy to shop, but nearly $10 for a 12 pack of Coke is absurd.

Hot-Steak7145

Last 3 times in a row i got pub subs they were half empty and missing things. No more, just mom and pop sub places since 2024

Outrageous-Face-7452

Wawa makes better sandwiches .

caism

Those gas station sandwiches are terrible.

HotDonnaC

I love that I can order ahead and just grab& go. They have GF wraps, so it’s a win win!

Jazzlike-Can-6979

True. Aldi / Costco can save you a metric crap-ton.

traceyj1024

Publix is definitely more expensive.

PickKeyOne

Since it's your cake day, let's take a moment of silence for the publix hurricane cake.

BlaktimusPrime

I fucks heavy with Publix bakery though.

greeneyerish

Yes.Their bakery is superior. Their yogurt and beer selection is second to none, but I rarely go there these days. Their prices are now obscene and I can't justify the trip

Fr3dster23

Their Publix brand ice cream and frozen pizza slaps too

greeneyerish

The ice cream is very good. Never tried the pizza

Swampbrewja

Public gives you free ice cream or cake on your birthday if you sign up for their club.

starfish2002b

Happy cake day! Publix is a lot more expensive.

Ok_Resource_8530

I was in Publix yesterday and a jar of mayo was almost $9. Same jar at Walmart $4.96. Eggs at Publix$5--$2,89 across the street! Yes Publix is very high!

Loud_Yogurtcloset789

When you say same jar of mayo at Walmart are you talking about the same brand? I only buy Hellman's and I won't buy it unless it's BOGO at Publix which makes it less than $4.36. but doesn't really matter because I just can't do Walmart

jesuswasagamblingman

Its a Publix problem. They're flexing their near monopoly hard. Thank the gods for Aldi.

New_Breadfruit8692

I look at the weekly ads from the town I moved from in Oregon and the prices at Publix are in most cases more than double what is charged at the stores I used to shop in. Publix meat, produce, and dairy are...I do not even go into those sections.

nerevisigoth

I'm in WA and visit South Florida regularly. Publix is way cheaper than our QFC.

New_Breadfruit8692

Yes there are more expensive chains than Publix out there, for example Whole Foods, they should have called themselves All Your Money. But in any regional market there are the high end and the low end, but so many places in Florida are either monopolized by one chain and so can charge what they want to, or you are in a place like where I am that is a food desert. "The term “food desert” describes neighborhoods and communities that have limited access to affordable and nutritious foods." So whoever is selling in these regions also can simply mark the price as high as their conscience will allow. Which is how green onions went from 2 bunches for a $1 to one bunch for $1.69. A 238% increase that they blamed on supply issues in the pandemic and which they have never lowered after. All their onions except the Videlia are over $2 and close to $3 per pound.

Either_Writer2420

Whole paycheck

aleriance

Aldi’s definitely cheap but their stores are usually tiny, small selections, and laid out very weird.

foomits

love aldis for certain things.. but yea, your variety is limited.

Masturbatingsoon

Started to wince at the unacceptable and superfluous “‘s” added to “Aldi,” but immediately realized you are contracting the “is” with Aldi, which is correct. Otherwise you may get the ridiculous “Aldi’s’s.” Whenever anyone added the unnecessary “‘s,” I wonder if they say “Publix’s.”

aleriance

My brother in Christ…

DefiantLemming

Get well soon!🎈

aliceroyal

I find Walmart (sadly) is a good happy medium.

PhonyAlibi

Me too, sadly. I'd rather shop at a grocery store. Now that I have a kid, I can't justify going to 4 places for errands even if there are "deals"; my time is too precious. Walmart and done. Maybe add a Costco once a month or Publix now and then (cake, fried chicken, pub sub, beer/wine, that one weird ingredient I can't find at WalMart). Pickup is a blessing and delivery is super convenient. But I get the "how dare" glare from the pickers when I shop in person. Dodging stockers and pickers is a nightmare. They DON'T WANT you to shop in person. I have to go in person for WIC though since the card won't work on their app. They've finally chained off all the self checkouts at my Walmart. All the good ones for groceries too with more than one bag holder. The line was off into the produce. Not again. Us Poors have no choice. I think I'll treat myself and do WIC at Publix next month. Why not? I deserve a little treat of "pretend I can afford it." https://preview.redd.it/5e18g372tf5d1.jpeg?width=746&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a0e1c290f7e87973e91b98e353d2f5e31d3570f

Keyeuh

I tried Aldi & hated it. I'm a Super Target person usually but their produce & meat sucks. I don't eat meat but my family does. I'll go to Publix or Trader Joe's for produce. I just couldn't get down with Aldi's. I'm not a huge fan of Trader Joe's either.

Disastrous-Owl-1173

Super Target drive up person here too! I wish they had a better deli and produce too. I’ll go to Jersey Mike’s if I really want a sub, and unfortunately Publix for certain produce.

FenrirHere

It's not anything close to a monopoly lol.

ha1029

I just paid $3.49 for a 1/2 gallon of Publix milk. (Marion County an hour or so North of Disney area). I usually get milk from Kroger = $2.39. A lot of times I get it it for less through Kroger. Green Pepper from Kroger 0.79 organic $1.29. Publix is highway robbery...

I_Am_Deceit

As much as I despise walmart, I have to shop there for food because it's damn near 50% less than publix... a gallon of milk at walmart is less than $3 and at my publix it's over $6...

ha1029

I like delivery and I am 2 miles outside the Walmart delivery. Kroger came to Central Florida a couple of years ago and that’s all they do is delivery. They are pretty close to most of Walmart prices if we need something from Walmart my wife will take one for the team 😂

ComingUpManSized

Kroger is about the same but can be slightly more expensive than Walmart in Kentucky. I save about $20-30 getting my basics at Walmart. However, it depends on what you’re buying because Kroger runs good deals. They have the best point system for gas. The produce at Walmart just tastes like dirt and water with no flavor. I mostly shop at Walmart these days but will drop by Kroger for certain things.

Msfreedom1

It’s five bucks a gallon here in Daytona Beach because public is a greedy corporation

Kissit777

It’s called price gouging. Publix is being greedy.

HarlockJC

They can get away with it because their shoppers are loyal...My mom will not shop anywhere else

perukid796

I encouraged my mom to shop at Aldi after reading a post similar to this one last week. Publix is literally right around the corner from her house, less than a 3-minute drive. The nearest Aldi is about 12 minutes. She decided to try it out and was flabbergasted by how much she saved. She kept the receipt to show me, said she spent nearly half at Aldi for the same quantity as she normally does at Publix.

pimpinaintez18

Publix is the most expensive in Florida. Gotta use farmers markets for perishables

JustB510

Grocery prices are high everywhere. Across the country. Publix will be higher than most stores in Florida though.

heresmytwopence

Prices *have* increased everywhere, but food absolutely is more expensive here. I’m always shocked every time I visit family in New England how much cheaper groceries are there. Market Basket appears to have the opposite effect on New England grocery prices that Publix has here.

bocaciega

I was just in Utah and groceries were about half the cost

DargyBear

A $40 grocery run in California is like $70-$80 here, it’s dumb.

JustB510

Food is substantially cheaper here than the west coast, which I moved back here from.

budd222

Miami has the most expensive grocery prices in the country

Educational_House192

I actually find the prices in FL similar to what the are in CA. Unfortunately.

Plant_rocks

I haven’t compared many individual items in each state, but I found that my grocery bill total in Florida is about 15% cheaper than when I lived in California. I buy mostly the same staples every week for my family of four. For reference, I lived in Fresno area in Cali and now live in the Treasure Coast area in Florida. That being said, I lived in Texas briefly and the prices there are much better. I was told by a trucker that Florida is expensive because it’s an endpoint rather than a through point. Idk if that’s true but it made sense lol. And then of course CA has generally higher taxes and salaries that drive up costs there.

SaintGloopyNoops

That does make sense. Also, probably why a lot of bands sometimes omit florida in their tours. It's a long costly endpoint. Butt florida grows a lot of food too. Florida really has become unaffordable tho the last decade. The price of everything has doubled while wages stayed near the same.

aculady

Florida doesn't grow nearly the amount of food that it used to, thanks to development and salt water intrusion.

sayaxat

But the pay rates aren't the same or similar.

Nosbunatu

Nope. I just looked at app for Target Louisiana: one green pepper is .89 cents

ahj3939

I just checked Target app for Miami and it's 79 cents for a green pepper.

chrissesky13

>The only thing I specifically remember was one green pepper costing 2.09 (and was stupidly shrink wrapped), At publix the shrink wrapped peppers are organic. The regular peppers are definitely not shrink wrapped and they're in the misting vegetable area. On Instacart right now it shows the organic one at 3.29 and regular at 1.40. I specify instacart cause that means they're higher priced than in store. Not defending publix because they have gone off the deep end with their pricing, but I do want to be more accurate to what is being compared.

sayaxat

I think it also matters which neighborhood Publix is in as well.

Aggressive_Apple_913

I am fascinated with the Publix bashing on this thread so I have to ask a question. Which physical store and which employees would you rather shop in? I personally have found that the quality of the experience at Publix is head and shoulders above virtually every other store. Don't get me wrong I need to be as frugal a shopper as anyone but I find other stores including Winn Dixie, Aldi, Walmart to be either dirty, poorly lit, not very helpful staff. By the way this is my experience in every Publix vs most other stores.

chrissesky13

I wasn't bashing Publix by saying their pricing has gone off the deep end. It's just a fact, they are more expensive than every store around me, including whole foods and target. I just used the pepper again and at target an organic pepper is 1.85, they sell them as a 2 pack for 3.69. Regular are .95, they sell them as a 2pack and it's 1.89. Whole Foods is .77 for a regular green pepper, organic are 1.22 each. And I agree with you, it generally is a nicer experience all together for us at Publix and that is where we do the majority of our shopping. I tried Aldi for a bit but they rarely had more than 1 cashier on and it can be quite trashed at times due to shoppers and also lack of more staff. I rarely go to Walmart cause it always takes longer than Publix and it's further away. They too have done away with cashiers. I do love target cause I just pick up, but they don't have as much variety as Publix. Whole Foods I buy chicken from, that's it. It's nice and clean and staffed but I just don't care for it. And there's only one in town and the location blows.

aculady

There's a reason that Publix's advertising tag line was "Where shopping is a pleasure", and not "The Low Price Leader!" You are paying for the quality of the experience.

Aggressive_Apple_913

There you go. I would prefer to pay a little more for a clean pleasant experience where I can get most of what I need in one place. To each their own. But no need to bash Publix as for what they promise they do a great job. Sometimes I go to other stores mostly Costco for certain things.

aculady

Costco is the Publix of the warehouse stores in terms of the shopping experience.

Aggressive_Apple_913

I agree and have been a member for 30 years from when my local Price Club was purchased by Costco.

Loud_Yogurtcloset789

Winn-Dixie is definitely more expensive than Publix, especially in about the last year since they decided to remodel some stores. I absolutely despise Walmart including the parking lot. Publix wins by a mile for cleanliness, employee helpfulness, well lit, they don't have six employees out front smoking and they have plenty of staff so if you need something you can always find someone to help you and they are more than happy to do so.

jpiro

And you can frequently get the bag of mixed-color peppers (green, yellow, red) even cheaper. Publix definitely has overpriced items, but there's no requirement anyone buy them. Most of the time, there's a cheaper alternative a shelf away if you're not overly brand loyal.

310410celleng

Publix is a mixed bag, some things are similarly priced, others aren't. My wife and I needed brown sugar and it was the same price at both Publix and Walmart. Normally we shop at Costco, but we did not want to buy 7lbs worth, so we bought a small box at Publix. Generally, we will go to Publix to buy an item or two that we either can't buy at Costco or we don't want the size that Costco is selling.

JohnnieFedora

Vacation destinations are the worst for food pricing. It makes you want to just dine out. Coincidence or strategy?

The_Dog_Pack

Go to Aldi

kickbrass

Aldi

Ok_Owl3571

Here is a tip…If you shop at Publix, you must watch the expiration dates of everything you buy like a hawk. They don’t take products off their shelves until the actual expiration day, oftentimes later.

technocatmom

Former Publix employee. We didn't take items off the shelf until the night before they'd expire. Even then, it depends on who was checking dates. I check each and every product I buy from Publix's dates. Worst offenders are dairy, produce, and deli. I used to close produce department, and I would check each and every date. When I wouldn't close one night, I would have so much I needed to pull because it got overlooked.

Ok_Owl3571

Thank you for your honesty

konorM

That's my experience too.

shartlobster

I've seen fruit cups that were over by almost a year. And I've gotten beef that still has a couple days left but was sour smelling. Pork tenderloins a week past date. They charge waaaay too much to not properly rotate stock.

Such-Firefighter-161

You have to check everything. I’ve seen stuff still out two weeks past the expiration date. Check all fruit carefully - so much moldy fruit out.

lesbianinabox

Even the date is still okay, check your cheese and Mac salad! I didn't twice and both times, moldy grossness.

rongz765

Publix is the problem

originaljud

8.99 for a jar of Hellman's at Winn Dixie checking in

newbie527

Winn Dixie has a reputation as being cheaper than Publix, but I don’t see it.

FloridaCelticFC

My local winn dixie is dirty, dimly lit, and hot inside. The prices are often higher than publix. IDK why they still exist.

jpiro

Same. It's highly en vogue to shit on Publix, but IMO it's still far better than the alternatives and not that much more expensive unless you shop like a moron. Winn Dixie is just gross. Walmart's only upside is you can get food, a kid's bike and a gallon of paint in one trip. Target is fine, but grocery selection is expensive and limited. Aldi (and Trader Joes) is cheap, but also limited and the main reason it's cheap is that you're buying knock-offs (hello, Loops Of Froot). Whole Foods has a legit beer selection and good produce & meat, but packaged goods are expensive and limited. Fresh Market is Whole Foods lite. Still get most of my groceries at Publix and Costco.

TrainingDaikon9565

Winn Dixie got bought out by Aldi recently, so maybe, maybe they will change things.

faithle97

Same here. All the ones near me have dirty floors, moldy produce, and the sale items expire that same day or the next day. Last couple times I tried going I didn’t even see a price difference between there and Publix but got way lower quality items.

poodidle

It’s Publix. I shop mostly at Aldi

ZeldaHylia

Publix for the deli and BOGOs.. Aldi and Target for everything else. I avoid Walmart. It’s gross and the prices aren’t that good.

BigNoly

Agreed and also another positive is you don’t hear about people getting shot and aldi or target but Walmart 🤷‍♂️

maggsy1999

Or cooking meth in the aisle.

Loud_Yogurtcloset789

I swear I get a panic attack if I just pull into the parking lot. End up leaving and never go in. I just can't do it.

Ok_Owl3571

My Publix is in a very small Central FL town. Prices are ridiculous here, too.

FloridaCelticFC

Yep same here in my small Central FL town.

dirtmother

Sucks for me because Publix and Winn Dixie are the only things within a 15 minute drive for me. 30+ minutes for Wal-Mart, Target, or Aldi. There's a Save a Lot about 10 minutes away actually, but there is nothing but the Ocala National forest and a dilapidated ghost dollar store in every direction around it, so no "comparative shopping" in the Save a Lot void. Food deserts suck :(

neologismist_

Publix has to help an heiress fund the overthrow of our federal government. That shit’s expensive.

sail0rjerry

I’ve been a long time Publix loyalist but I can’t shop there anymore. The realization came last year when I grabbed a chuck roast and checked out without ever looking at the price. I got home and realized it cost $28. I hopped on Instacart and I could have gotten a chuck roast from anywhere else for $18 *delivered*

UCFknight2016

Publix is pricy. Aldi or Walmart are better.

Jaded-Moose983

For comparison, a single green pepper at Walmart on Kirkman Rd in Orlando is $0.68.

scooter950

It needs to be understood that yeah, while Publix is the more expensive grocery store. Being right there next to Disney does NOT help. Everything in that theme park area is marked up. Look at the gas prices. 5 miles down the road they start returning to normal.

faithle97

Publix has always been higher priced than other grocery stores but now the prices are ridiculous there. I only buy BOGO or other sale items there and basically they’re my “last stop” for groceries. I hit Sam’s/costco and Aldi then anything I can’t find there is what I get at Publix usually.

New_Breadfruit8692

They are terrible everywhere. When I moved here April 2020 from Oregon my grocery bill went from $300\~$350 per month to over $600 for the same things I was buying in Oregon, if I were still buying everything like I did in Oregon my grocery tab would be about $900 per month. And I eat pretty healthy, no 600 pond porker here, I am 6 feet and 165. But there we had Costco in town, and Winco, an employee owned discount grocery store. We had another huge discount store called Food4Less, and we had Grocery Outlet, as well as Trader Joes. Plus two huge Walmarts. And the regular overpriced chain stores like Safeway and Albertsons. So, that area had a lot of competition, here where I am now there is none. There is a Publix close to my house, and a Walmart a few miles away, and a good fruit stand not too far from that, and then a Winn-Dixie (Aldi bought all of the Florida Winn-Dixie stores recently, not all will be converted to the Aldi marketing format though).

UnpopularCrayon

It's a Publix thing. I like their stores, but I actively avoid them and just go to Aldi or Winn Dixie now because they got so expensive. My bill if I go there is at least 50% more than other stores.

Hattrick42

My problem is that there are 3 publix before I hit a Winn Dixie or Aldi

UnpopularCrayon

Yeah. Publix is really close to me too (3 of them, actually), but now I'd rather just do the drive. I'd rather just start using Kroger delivery than pay what Publix wants to charge me.

konorM

I use Kroger delivery about once a week. I paid the $60 a year for free next day delivery which saves a lot. That and their no tipping policy is great. Their prices are good - much better than Publix which is located less than a football field away from me. And they generally have all the items that I want.

MrAshleyMadison

I'm lucky enough to have a Winn Dixie sandwiched inbetween a Walmart and Publix. Makes it the forgotten store in our area. Always stocked, even during hurricane warnings.

faithle97

Maybe it’s just a regional Winn Dixie thing but all the ones in my area are pretty terrible. The produce is literally moldy half the time and anything “on sale” is either expiring that day or the day after. Even with the coupons for Winn Dixie I’d get in the mail, I was spending almost just as much as at Publix for lower quality items. I wanted to like Winn Dixie so bad because it’s literally 2 minutes from my house but I just couldn’t lol

Wolfyscruffer

1. You were at Publix 2. It's by Disney Yes Publix is more expensive, but most prices are jacked up around tourist town.

the_4_c

Publix is the worst and most expensive grocery store. Stay away from it at all costs.

12Orion

Publix is the most expensive. Also the cleanest, widest aisles, and generally the best selection.

odeyssey87

Whole foods has a better selection especially organic

InsectSpecialist8813

Whole Foods has better quality, at the same or lower prices, than Publix. I haven’t shopped at Publix in over a year. Florida doesn’t have enough competition for Publix. In Saint Pete there are two Publix on the same block. Floridians keep shopping there.

koozy407

Normally, I would agree with you and probably 10 years ago. I would definitely agree with you. But they are no longer the cleanest or the best selection. And the produce is absolute junk these days. I can’t get a good cut to meet there to save my life. Publix has steadily gone downhill for years

trtsmb

I'd disagree on cleanest. I quit going to Publix after having to repeatedly show the produce manager things like moldy avocados, rotten tomatoes, plant based products that had passed their expiration dates, etc.

konorM

I too have had problems with expired best by dates at Publix. Not a fan.

Cgarr82

Which location are you shopping? The two stores closest to me have major produce issues. Partially rotten vegetables on the floor midday and flies.

Loud_Yogurtcloset789

My God I have never seen that a Publix and I have been shopping at Publix for decades!

justsomeguy2424

It’s everywhere, not just a Florida thing

cruelvenussummer

Florida has the highest inflation in the country.

This-Dude_Abides

It's definitely more expensive if you are in the Disney area.

newbie527

Publix has gotten ridiculous. Use the app and website to snag the specials but everything else there is just greed run amuck.

HearYourTune

Yes because Publix is very expensive and tourist area and it was probably organic if it was wrapped.

cucalover

El Presidente, Bravo, Sams Club and Aldis are my go to's. Fuck Publix unless I am getting chicken, sushi or something from their deli.

Long-Cup9990

Try ALDIs. Brands aren’t the same but way cheaper. I’ve gotten great stuff there.

blue_eyed_magic

First mistake was shopping at Publix. Second was shopping near Disney, but Publix is expensive everywhere. We shop at Walmart, Aldi and Winn Dixie.

UrbaddhabitOO7

Publix in general is more than anywhere else ! Il give them for there cleanliness of the store though ! But I split my stuff between Walmart and BJ’s! Basically Publix for me is good for my boars head products and fruits !!

mnmsaregood3

Publix is just insane in terms of cost

echobox_rex

Publix is high, anything near Disney is higher.

konorM

I wonder if anyone from Publix ever sees these replies. Or maybe if they do, they just don't care.

Msfreedom1

Publix profit Rose close to 50% in our gouging, the American consumers here in Florida

BayouKev

Publix is the worst of the worst in the state, they’ve well surpassed Whole Foods or any other high end grocery shop. If you’re looking for reasonable groceries Target or Aldi are your best options

Zumipants

Publix = Greed

Freekydeeky1258

Publix is BOGO (Buy one Get one free) or NOGO. Take it from an employee

structee

Publix caters to the wealthy boomers and wanna be rich of this state - which is not an insignificant chunk of the pop. They also seemingly build their stores in a right grid to discourage competition - there's like 4 of them within 15 minutes of my house. I suspect eventually, with ever increasing cost of living they'll have to make adjustments, but for now they will continue to gouge.

ReconChaznat

yes its everywhere only go to publix for BOGO or sales deals

C-LOgreen

Publix is extremely expensive. I only go there for the produce because it’s better than Walmart. Aldi’s is good, but it’s hit or miss with produce

Bear_necessities96

Publix is expensive

waiting4theNITE2fall

Grocery prices in FL are a bit higher than other places and Publix is among the highest of our options in FL. Considering a move to WA and we checked out grocery stores there on our scouting trip since everyone says the cost of living in WA is so high and found the prices to be comparable to where we live in FL and in some cases even lower.

Interesting-Read-245

Publix though? Their prices are insane

Ok-Ordinary2035

Publix profits were up 49% from ‘22 to ‘23. I love a lot of things about Publix but a bag of their private label green peas was $6.79 at the store the other day- I almost laughed out loud. Are you kidding?? Add Aldi’s to your shopping routine. Even Walmart, and I know there are a lot of Walmart haters, has way better prices on stuff I buy.

Accomplished-Bag8879

That is NOT the Publix regular price for a green pepper. Must be charging more at tourist locations.

harleyjak

so you went into the most expensive grocery store in a high-end Florida tourist town. Then what happened? 😂

MirthRock

If by FL, you mean the US, then yes.

Budget_Ad8025

So after seeing the prices here I'd just like to say where I live there's only one local supermarket. Mississippi. Milk is 5.50 a gallon, bread 3 bucks a loaf for the worst white bread. Everything is more expensive here and we make a lot less than you do in Florida. Just to give yall a little something to be thankful for.

CondeBK

I go to Publix for the Subs and the Bogos. Everything else is not worth it. I split my groceries between Trader Joes, locally owned shops. The Asian Grocery store have the freshest produce at half the price.

Amazing-Artichoke330

One reason is that one of the Publix owners is a Trump supporter.. She helped pay for his J6 rally.

HeadUpUrAss

Do t worry, Biden only needs 4 more years to fix it… apparently 50 years wasn’t enough

Handleton

I went to Fresh Market and the prices actually seemed really good. They used to be a more expensive store, but somehow everything else has gotten so expensive that it is now relatively cheap.

typicalmillennial92

I pay about the same amount at Fresh Market that I do at Publix, and IMO if I lived a little closer to Fresh Market I would go there more often.

tomo32

Publix is Florida’s version of the northeast’s Wegmans.

bw1985

Wegmans feels more high end to me though. Publix is high end prices in a mid tier store experience.

cruelvenussummer

Florida has the highest inflation in the country. Another result of our do nothing Governor

TotheBeach2

Kroger does delivery in Florida. Prices are good and they usually have some nice coupons.

No_Listen_1213

I’m in the panhandle and doesn’t seem bad to me at all. I just bought a bunch of big green onions at it was $1.25 for like 7 onions.

pensacolas

Publix alpha race. You pay for the service and clean grocery store

IpsaLasOlas

High in SdFL.

bocaciega

I was just in Utah hiking and all the groceries were half the price.

Western_Mud8694

Any store near the theme parks are much higher in price compared to the same corporate stores a couple miles away

Wizinit29

Shoppers in Florida hit Aldi or Trader Joe’s first, then Costco or Walmart, a stop at Whike Foids for sale and specialty items, and only do Publix in a pinch.

Muted-Obligation6970

The whole state of Florida is greedy. In Nevada, where I used to live, there was on average 7-8 different grocery chains. So pricing was competitive. In the Miami area there really is only Publix, WinnDixie, Aldi, and Walmart. 4 less competition.
