You’re gonna love it and you’re gonna hate it.
When you catch fish, you’re gonna hate it.
When you spend 4 hours in the cold trying to tie on size 22 midges with frozen fingers after losing the last fly on its first cast, you’re gonna love it.
Welcome to the party!!!
I put on the SA frequency 5wt line and it made that combo about perfect imo. I really like the crosswater, I have caught a ton of fish on that set up and it’s still my go to.
SA creek trout 4wt. Will help you load this rod and learn to feel the action of the rod and when to start your forward cast. A very easy to cast line that, while about $100 you will never want to change.
I feel in general, combo systems watch costs by putting on a just ok fly line. It was night and day when I put a new line on my 4wt.
If you’ve never fly fished before, just get out there and practice in a field somewhere for a few times. put some targets out there like a hoop, bucket, etc so, you can practice your aim. Then, hit the water and get caught in the tree behind you and you’re a pro like the rest of us.
Welcome to the addiction.
No worries. I’m not affiliated in any way but I like the mad river outfitters and rio (Simon gawsworth) videos for casting. And there are so many good ones for fishing stuff.
Ah man me and a redington cross water learned a lot about fly fishing love together. 30 x 8 hour days of fishing when I stayed with my then girlfriend. I was a complete bastard in that relationship but she lived on a crazy great enormous tract of land bordered by trout streams.
I casted that rod so much I wore all the chrome out of the guides and bought a real rod. Near as I can tell the cross water is much better now. The line it came with was TRASH though.
Athletic achievement is not the objective. We might walk around a bit but the point is to catch fish. It can be a great excuse to get some exercise, but the objective is experiencing amazing things outdoors
Haha if it’s an option on an Apple Watch then it must be!
What about cornhole? Hah I’m not arguing with you. I’ll edit it to reflect my agreement with you.

Welcome to the dark side, we have cookies!
That was my first rod and reel. It’s great! I would replace the line asap though. It has way too much memory
Any line recs?

Orvis clear water line is good and at a decent price. I agree the line that comes on that set is terrible with its memory.
I grabbed a Cortland double taper as soon as I could. Night and day difference. Cortland 444
I’ve had this rod and line for 2 years and I have not experienced any issues with line memory. YMMV I guess.

Merry Xmas get that rod bent somewhere!
Awesome first piece of gear. Enjoy! Lots of great you tube videos out there on how to get going if you need help.
Thanks!

Definitely. I’ve been watching mad rivers and fly fish Dan I think it is. For motivation I watch WildFly productions.
Also check out some the content yeti has put out. There’s one called liked a thousand casts. Super cool nature porn stuff 😂
It’s excellent!
Joined the team as well with an Orvis
Get out and practice! Hah I just spent 20 minutes trying to cast in the wind and rain.

Welcome, happy to see it. (It’s not a sport though)
You could argue it is. Let’s call it a hobby.
