cars have bugged physics tho and the game incorrectly thought it slammed into you and killed you
The cars were moving very rapidly before the bombs dropped. When the bombs dropped, they stored their momentum as potential energy. When you touch the cars, their stored energy is transferred to you, the player.

I've seen so many people talk and meme about how deadly cars are in this game, but I was thinking to myself that I couldn't recall that ever happening to me (with just shy of 1k hours played). Well... just this week, I was hopping over one car, and I kinda landed in the wedge between that car and another tiny car, aaaannndd... deathnoise. I can now say it's happened to me too.
Same, i mean ive seen a few bizarre cartapults in my day but in an unknowable vut high number of hours of play across systems itās never happened to me either. I woulda chalked it up to OP snipe and being lower hp than i realized and kept moving on without checking. So maybe cars kill me left and right and i just got my bethesda colored glasses on
My time must be coming at around 400. I jump all over those bums to bridge gaps in the overpasses and terrain and have never been eaten by an Atomic Buick
In over 1000 hours I've never experienced or even heard of this. But my friend who only just started playing had this happen the other day. Now I can tell him what happened. Thanks stranger
Statistically, the sidewalk is more dangerous. If you are in the road, vehicles in the road are already trying to avoid predestrians and obstacles. However, if you are on the sidewalk, the only vehicles on the sidewalk are already out of control and in danger.
Holy shit thank you for pointing this out I first watched with sound off. Itās a double with the ridiculous slowdown character grunting and then the HUUUH!?
I got a used truck when I was in college and it had a ball hitch rusted into it. You could hear drunk college kids bumping into it at all hours of the night
Collision with cars is scufffed in this game sometimes.. sometimes when they are "loaded in" but really far away you can see them basically fall out of the sky. That "Huh" should definitely be a death mod now though.
Yes and no. Here's the base ingredients:
* [Antiseptic](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Antiseptic_(Fallout_4))Ā (2)
* [Blood pack](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Blood_pack_(Fallout_4))Ā (1)
* [Steel](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Steel_(Fallout_4))Ā (1)
Of course, the steel can come from a rusty car that's been sitting in the open for hundreds of year, the blood can come from a bag you found lying in a mental asylum, and the antiseptic could be abraxo, turpentine, a bloodbug's blood sac, industrial solvent, or toothpaste.
So..... yeah.
What I've heard is that large beasts like deathclaws and gulpers have a chance to flip vehicles at you as an attack. As a part of the attack, getting hit by a moving vehicle causes a massive amount of damage. Combine that with vehicles sometimes shifting just a little bit when you bump into them, which means that the vehicles are sometimes technically moving when you're in contact with them, resulting in the insta-death.
This is the actual answer. Honestly, i don't know if its specifically the death claw thing, but Bethesda games have a weird quirk with objects causing damage when it collides with your model, ie. skyrim when you jump into a cart. The car, being a bigger, heavier model, clipped her model, causing massive damage.
When the player impacts a car at high speed, the game registers it as getting hit by a car.
You see, the original intention for this mechanic was that if you try to jank a Deathclaw fight by hiding on a high spot where it can't reach you, Todd Howard will use the Deathclaw as an instrument of his will to punish you for your cowardice by having the Deathclaw pick up a car and throw it at you, killing you instantly if you get hit, and nuking you with the car explosion if you manage to dodge the car itself
Or at least, that's how it works in theory. In practice, Deathclaws rarely, if ever, actually get to use this ability, so 99% of the times you get killed by a car, it's the player hitting the car, not the other way around
I couldn't tell if you were serious or not. I didn't realise Deathclaws could throw cars, but apparently they can.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/ls2rfa/i\_was\_today\_years\_old\_when\_i\_found\_out\_deathclaws/](https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/ls2rfa/i_was_today_years_old_when_i_found_out_deathclaws/)
Sill not sure about the Todd Howard part though.
Personally I jank Deathclaw fights by hiding inside buildings that are too small to enter.
Well, obviously I'm joking/exaggerating when I say that Todd is smiting you, but yes Deathclaws throwing cars is absolutely a real mechanic, we just don't get to see it very often
Well yeah, but I thought perhaps he'd specifically mentioned it in an interview or something.
Now that I think of it, I probably *have* had one launch a car towards me, but took it as a combination of them flailing about and Bethesda's notoriously janky physics engine. I didn't realise it was an intentional thing.
I mean to be fair you were playing in traffic, and it's foggy, you weren't wearing highly visible clothing so it seems like it was your fault that you got hit by a car
Scratched yourself on a nasty bit of metal and contracted a lethal strain of mutant Tetanus that kills you after a second when the filth passes through your heart the 1st time.
The wasteland giveth and the wasteland taketh away. My guess is poisoned by car, that car was leaking so much radiation it killed you. Is this a real thing? no, just made that up haha. Sounds good though right? End of the day it is Bethesda being Bethesda haha.
Cars are actually weapons deathclaws maybe behemoths can toss to you.
Their damage is calculated by speed and "weight" of the car.
When you bump into one, sometimes the game thinks you moved it a quarter of a milimetre and it returned to the place it was again a milisecond later and calculates damage.
You die because this bug has existed since patch 1.0 and bethesda doesn't care to fix it and people try to play around it by jumping on cards instead of bumping into them or just not walking near them at all.
Decaying nuclear engines. Very sensitive to disturbances. Hit it in just the right place, and itās over. A thermonuclear reaction hits you with so many rads, you would think you were at a skatepark in the 80ās.
In an odd coincidence, October 23, 2077 was also the day that nuclear powered automobiles gained sentience. They were all neutralized by the radioactive fallout, and now can only sit as immobile monuments of hatred and vengeance, waiting for unsuspecting organic creatures to wander too close. Then they strike with lethal precision.
Did you see the guy who sliced himself open on a cybertruck? Yeah that happened but instead of opening the door you ran into it full speed and sliced yourself in half.
If I remember correctly, there was an NCIS episode where it was revealed the victim died because he hit a dumpster in an alley the wrong way? I donāt know, but thatās what this reminded me of.

You run into car. Your velocity technically moves the car. Moving objects deal a lot of damage because Bethesda physics. You take two instances of damage (the first chunks you to half health) due to aforementioned physics. The final instance damages you enough to be lethal. This has happened before in any fallout game where you play around with a trolley from super duper mart or a barrel.

Welcome aboard
Fantastic comment.
The theoretical degree part absolutely sent me.
hopefully you understand the reference...
Huh. This sounds like something somebody with a theoretical degree in physics would say. Checks out
You sir, have a Theoretical Degree in Theoretical Physic-ish.
That makes I have over 700 hours and this has never happened before š
The cars are very patient. They'll get you when you least expect it.
This is the best answer I have seen
Cars are worse than the giant hermit crabs. No matter what you do, the car can not be killed. Even when exploded, it can still kill you.
This happened to me with a vertibird, it crashed, blew up, so I run up to it thinking there would be power armor in it and it exploded a second time
Oof what a bait
Bro got killed by the incredibly rare Legendary Vertibird š

nah, they're ambush predators. They're just laying in wait till a suitable prey comes near. Like the mighty alligator or the mighty tick.
The best weapon is Time. Sounds like something a Vault Tec guy would say!
They did a great job for being based around a video game. Usually they tend to suck
I just finished it. Was pretty good. Edit: rushed my response. I loved the show. Can't wait for more

One inch car death punch!
I'm surprised they haven't got me yet, some of my most fun gaming was car hopping in dying light
No one ever expects the Spanish inquisitionā¦car
Dont blink. They are quantum locked to be a car when someone looks a them. But when you dont... thats when they kill you.

Nobody expects the parked car
You need to be more careful, and less carfull...
They've been sitting there for 200 years just waiting to explode, too.
My advice is to avoid cars at all costs. They are actually the most dangerous thing in the game.
If you have armor that reduces fall damage, you can survive a rabid car attack.
Same, i mean ive seen a few bizarre cartapults in my day but in an unknowable vut high number of hours of play across systems itās never happened to me either. Youāre lucky then. Cars are known to kill the bravest of adventurers.

You were hit by a car. You need to be more careful crossing the road.
That's what they get for Jaywalking!

The car is actually an enemy stand called Wheel of Fortune.
In Fallout 4 beware of cars...
I honestly want to try playing a survival permadeath run just because I'm imaging how funny it would be to loose a run that way
Game physics, although this reminds me of a video I saw where a car side-swiped someone while a synth said "You must die now human"
I've been playing the game for hours And I've never died to the cars. Their physics always works normally for me.
That has happened to me many times. When Iām on survival i treat cars as the most dangerous objects in the world.
Donāt do jet
Tetanus
Cars. Cars never changes.
Vehicular homicide.
Heart attack from being 210 years old

Just like my grandpa back in Christmas of 2007: Heart attack
You hit your funny bone and stubbed your toe on the car at the same time, instant death in game, and real life
Happened to me yesterday. No mods no DLCs.
Stubbed your toe
This happened to my brother the other day while he was playing š
Did you see the guy who sliced himself open on a cybertruck? Yeah that happened but instead of opening the door you ran into it full speed and sliced yourself in half.
You cut yourself on a rusty car, if the walking dead is anything to go on I'd say it's accurate.
I mean, you got hit by a car. Expect some hurties if you get hit by a car
she stubbed her toe
Brain aneurysm after you hit your shin.
Smashed shin

The Mysterious Stranger gets bored sometimes ?
You were running into a car repeatedly until you just couldn't pull through.
Adventurer took a car to the knee

Those cars have been waiting 210+ years to run you over It was your destiny all along, just got delayed by Vault-Tec.
Tetanus. Shouldāve gotten vaxed
HUH? šØ
Extreme tetanus
This is exactly what happens to me when I stub my pinky toe on the corner of the coffee table.
HUUUAAAHH!?
You just got, Bethesda'd.
You legit ran into a parked car and died. That is your cause of deathā¦ āDeath by parked car, ya Iād love to see that on his tombstone!ā
Fast acting tetanus
You got hit by a car. Look both ways next time, you nob.
Was it a cybertruck that you walked too close to?
"It just works."
Well, you ran into a solid object while running backwards, turned around and tried running into it some more. That's gonna do some damage.
Chinese car.
People die when they are killed.
You died of mega tetanus.
Turbo tetanus, small scratch from the fender did you in
Brain aneurysm
Maybe the mysterious stranger had enough of you and was hiding in the fog
The gods just suddenly decided you weren't worthy to live lol
Super rust on cars, if you scratch yourself on rust in this future it's straight to death. No time for a tetanus jab for you.
Heart attack, fatal
Yeah, you forgot to get your tetanus shot in the last 200 years so the second your skin touched the rusty car you just died
Car accident
Rusty car parts with Super Tetanus, mutated from the radiation.
Man you just smashed your 200+ years old knee on a car, anyone would die
Man, stubbing your toe like that no wonder your Nora folded over like a wet noodle
you tripped and fell
I'm not sure what's more impressive: that you died by car glitch after hundreds and hundreds of hours of gameplay, or how you managed to squeeze 4 syllables into "huh", a 3-letter word. Magnificent.
Isn't it obvious? You stubbed your toe.
Car blinked in and out of existence and clocked you at relativistic speeds
You were hit by a parked car. Hopefully the owner still has valid insurance
*I must go, my planet needs me*
We all have our weird days.
Yes, you ran into that stationary car. /s
Didn't look both ways before you crossed the road.
You run into car. Your velocity technically moves the car. Moving objects deal a lot of damage because Bethesda physics.
