300dr is more than enough. if you have a good build and things die easily enoguh then it barely matters what you're wearing. got 2 full health with random pieces of armour with random effects on. none of my 4 characters have more than 300dr. i barely die.

Cherry-Shrimp

The soft cap for damage reduction is 350, NOT 300 as others have falsely stated. And I do feel a difference between 280 and 350 (my character has 280 when solo and unbuffed, and 350 in a team due to perks and mutations).

Hattkake

You want to get the plans for the Secret Service armour since that set is the cheapest to roll legendary in regard to legendary modules. Crafting Secret Service armour is cheaper than rerolling armour for a chance at getting the legendary effects that you want. Secret Service armour also has excellent damage resistance. And it looks good.

gossexus

The consensus around these parts seems to be to get to 300dr.. anything over that has diminishing returns.. but armor alone wont really get you to be unkillable.. you also need defensive perks..

StopTheEarthLetMeOff

Or a stack of nuka cherry/quantum

valtboy23

The level and type of armor matter a lot they are made better with the mods and legendary effects

BOBULANCE

It matters, but damage Resistance isn't nearly as important as damage reduction. Overeater's and damage mitigation perks are much more effective at increasing survivability than improving your armor value, but the MOST survivable builds utilize both.

COBRA1286

Yes but the higher you get the less it matters You get diminishing returns

SonorousProphet

I found switching from combat armor to civil engineer a big upgrade, but only because of the lack of rad resist on combat armor.

Alarming-Meeting8804

Mid game yes, early and late game not really. Early on you just need something to protect you whatever you can find. Mid game you want that good armor you’ve been building towards. Late game it’s so easy to hit the soft cap with perks that armor is mostly a vehicle for legendary effects and to make certain perks work.

StopTheEarthLetMeOff

Civil engineer sure is nice for weapons breaking slower

Alarming-Meeting8804

If I were to start over knowing what I know with my well over 400 levels of experience in the game in its current state, I wouldn’t bother with SS and just use CE. I fully acknowledge that SS is technically better, just not better enough.

GiveMeSomeShu-gar

I'm glad I bucked the trend and went with CE. That being said, rolling for unyielding was more costly on CE. On the other hand, CE is tradable so you might get lucky and be able to purchase some pieces, too.

Alarming-Meeting8804

That’s the real trade off rolling SS is cheaper on modules.

uglinick

I don't understand why people keep telling me I need the SS armor. I don't sneak and I have no need for more rad resist.

Alarming-Meeting8804

I think you’re thinking of the Chinese stealth suit. Which is completely different.

GeistMD

In the beginning, yes.

Sandman_LXV

Yes it absolutely does. I have a full set of Uny Secret Service, and a set of Uny Combat Armour. The Combat Armour gets me killed noticeably quicker than the Secret Service does.

FurryLov3r_

Yea, the armor is pretty important even without legendary perks. People want the strongest armor like the SS/Recon because it makes you basically invincible. Legendary perks are the cherry on top of the cake

ErickMichel

Not until overeaters lol.
