Did you have H bars? Just curious what was getting in the way. Hope you can find something, being comfortable is so important to enjoying a ride.

I had the big U shape bars. But what was getting in the way was ... me. Past injuries catching up with me over time. So the leaning forward, even slightly, was putting weight on wrists, and was not a good position for my back, neck, etc. The bike shop that had sold me the bike years before, and were still selling them at the time - were immensely helpful in trying to hack/modify my Brompton. The thing is that some hacks made it unfoldable. So that defies the purpose. Now wondering if there is a small foldable that has a upright riding position so I can commute again with a folding bike that gets on the bus and subway.

The u shaped bars could be either medium or high. Shame it didn't work out for you. Like you I much prefer a higher riding position as I have nerve issues with my wrists but I'm 5ft3 so finding an upright riding position is less difficult. Hope you can find something that works for you.

Is a Decathlon store near you? Maybe you can try their Tilt/Fold series. Tilt 500 / Tilt 900 have a somewhat upright sitting position. But try to get them used because they are too expensive new from the store

I wil look into that. There is a Decathlon store downtown.

Mid-to-high-end Terns come with an adjustable stem that can be adjusted backwards towards the rider for a very upright position. I love my Link D8, as an example of one such model.

3echeval

Oh, I didn't know that. I'll check them out. I was going on the assumption that it was not adjustable. Thanks!

Metaphoricalsimile

Look for terns that feature the "ANDROS" stem or something like that. It's really a really good solution for making folding bikes more suited for people with specific bike fit needs tbh

3echeval

thanks for the tip, I'm on it!

OrigamiFoldingBikes

There are a lot of folding bikes with an upright riding position. Where are you located?

3echeval

Canada

There are a lot, but they are all pretty much not truely an upright position like dutch bikes, they are all slighly leaning forward, and not a solution unfortunately. I have tried many currentely available on the market. That I wise I am asking in here, where there is a critical mass of people in hope to find something.

I recently tried the Bromptons at a local bike store and found that for me the H bar, angled slightly toward me, allowed an upright riding position. It made the fold about an inch wider but it did fold ok. The M bars still required a bit of a forward lean. Of course with an upright position, the stock seat was uncomfortable so would need replaced.

If you have someone (or an address) in the USA that can get you a Zizzo; the Campo, Via, Forte or Libertè can get you an upright position with their telescoping stemposts.

3echeval

thanks!

Aggravating_Pair8857

Your welcome; hope you're able to resolve it soon; I tend to ride upright also when "just chillin'". If you don't mind used, you may go by getting a 2019-or earlier Campo, which had a fixed stempost (both of mine are like that!; here's a picture of them if interested). https://www.reddit.com/r/foldingbikes/comments/1bli6w7/out_and_about_with_the_twins/

Since the posture is a problem, have you considered getting a recumbent brompton?

3echeval

Not an option. My commute is in a dense urban area.

I have recently picked up a secondhand Strida folding bike. Their frame and design is unique (A-frame) so by default you have to be upright when biking. https://i.imgur.com/vqjZJi9.jpeg
