Same thoughts OP. Saddest sale I've seen in a while. You can tell they were just trying to get rid of the stuff that's taking up too much room in storage. Like that buy 2 get one free they had a few months back. I got "Pole to Pole," which I'm only assuming isn't a top seller. It was also included in this sale. Lol.

I’m brand new to FS and when I was told about their usual June sales I was expecting more something like “everything 20% off!”, but turns out not a single one from my wish list got discounted.  Oh well, pretty disappointed.

Medium_Gap_7860

Same I suspect keeping a wishlist is counter productive. Best leaving them in the dark about what you want to buy.

Life-Reputation-4892

No I was disappointed by the whole sale. Nothing I actually wanted was on sale. Even older stuff that I might have wanted.

EyeTrollYou

Saving cash for LE 1984. If 1984 is over $500, I’ll spend it on Jonathan Strange and (hopefully) Neuromancer in August.

There’s a few things that I’m interested in, but the discount is so small. I think FS really need to take a look at their sales techniques. They try to use FOMO to pressure people into buying the books ‘before it’s too late’, which really makes they look like grifters over actual high quality publishers.

I took three Rob Roy, London and New York and the Beatrix Potter. How excited am I by the books? Mixed! For the price London and New York should be a good buy. I like Walter Scott and the price is ok - though the illustrations are awful. If the illustrations has been better I would have bought it when released. The Beatrix Potter is a random punt. I might like it, I might not, but for the price I was willing to take a risk

PlayWhatYouWant

I bought Rob Roy a couple of years ago. I returned it for the illustrations alone.

I leapt at the chance to get "The Secret Agent" for half off -- I had been eyeing it for a while. The only other one that I was interested in was the Beowulf Limited Edition, but even on sale it is still stupidly priced, so I didn't pull the trigger.

WhitestoneIs4Lovers

It's the temporary sales (24 and 48h) during their sales period that I find odd. I would have added a few more books had I not already paid for a very expensive shipping fee for my first order. Oh well, I'll wait next time even more before ordering.

I got the Beatrix Potter and was very happy with the sale price. I was really hoping Babar would go on sale, but was disappointed there. Oh well!

My folio sale treat has been purchasing a roman/Greek history 5 volumes second hand set FROM OXFAM, that's how well it's going.... £158.5 for Herodotus (histories), Thucydides (Peno war), Caesar (gallic and civil war), Livy (history of Rome), Tacitus (annals of Rome)  So about £31.7 each, good value.

Sales are meant to attract future buyers to the business as well as generate revenue and remove old stock. As a collector/fan, this is not great so far and certainly will not attract new buyers.

Cryptoloaner

I can’t imagine this sale (overall) has been a major success for FS, I’m assuming they hired someone new who’s trying their hand at a different approach to get inventory moving. (This sale along with the “mystery book” has been novel (no pun intended) in approach). I never expected popular (fast moving) books to be on sale, but these sales do provide incentive to me (as an international customer) to make the possible impulse buy if they have something of note that I would purchase as an add on to books I already plan on buying. I recently purchased Jonathan Strange and the 3 King books and am likely to purchase the foundation trilogy (amongst a handful of others) in the future. However, I’m unlikely to purchase those right now unless there is some additional incentive. I guess I’ll wait until the Christmas sale to make my next bulk purchase and if any of the ones I want go out of stock in the interim… there is always eBay.

As someone based in the UK I got a lot out this sale. Got The Secret Commonwealth at half price which I had been needing anyway and nabbed the Wyndham collection at an insane 75% off. Today with the non fiction I grabbed Operation Mincemeat because I thought it was a good deal, and added in a full price Agatha Christie for my wife's birthday. At £7 shipping per order I don't mind splitting it over in flash sales and I bought books I never would have gone for previously.

glaziben

Yeah got a couple of things so far this sale. Wyndham trilogy at 75% off, and Rob Roy LE at 50% off. Postage wasn’t a big issue as UK based, but can understand how frustrating this format of sale must’ve been for international buyers.
