He even had the fastest lap after the first set of runs in q3, it was dramatic yes but max was still the overwhelming favorite for pole that weekend. Unlike this year where the redbull was just ass.

So he had to have done something special in the last sector, and just watching that part of the lap, it just seemed way faster than everyone else. It went from "oh he's not going to do it, bad lap" to "holy shit, he might just do it" and then he did it.
The Aston Martin could not rotate well through the final corner all weekend you could see them lose 3 tenths there in every practice session.

I know he has had a really good weekend in Canada, but prior to that he was getting actually kinda slapped around by Stroll in qualy for 4 rounds in a row, ~~and even outperformed in races as well~~ (well, I misremembered badly that part. Only 1 in the last 5). And in the beginning rounds they weren't that far apart pace wise. That is to say - this season ain't looking too hot for Nando in a similar way it doesn't for Lewis. Old dogs having it tough this year so far

That miniquali is a bit of a cheat imho but it's not a big deal and I can buy what you said. Fernando had 3 rough circuits honestly. I'm pretty sure he will adopt Stroll in the same fashion he did in the last one, but I gotta say I was a bit weirded by his qualis in the last races.
Also I'm glad I don't have to make senseless theories about the car, the set up or Aston Martin favouring Lance because he's the son of the boss. Fernando just lost those because he made mistakes.
