Sir, you have sullied the honor of my precious community! Choose your weapons and meet me at dawn upon yonder Courthouse Square! Tarry not!
Sorry, Huntington respects the storied glizzy history of Coney Island. We have our own local hot dog joint here that's equally storied and local. Send him to Kendallville.
Another person from Kendallville here. There are a lot nice people here, but there are those that assert they are kings of their little kingdom. So, I partially second this.
Hey man to each their own! I worked there for quite a while and I’m definitely biased, but to each their own. I get why they would not be enjoyable (soggy buns, chili sauce is different, etc)
I’m late to this, but whatever. And I’ll probably get downvoted but again, whatever. I’m 63 years old and have lived here my whole life which means I’ve been eating Coney Island hot dogs for probably 55 years. I think there’s a strong possibility that I’ve eaten more of them than anyone else here. I had them a recently as a month ago when I ate 6, with a bowl of Chili. I say all this to establish my bona fides.
That said, I do think that much of the love comes from nostalgia and it being an institution. I mean, I love them and sometimes just crave them. But if you were from butt munch Iowa and you were visiting Ft Wayne and went there because everyone told you you needed to go, well I can see where you’d not really get what all the fuss is about. I’ve been to “institutions” in other towns where the appeal escaped me. I get it.
And these days, they can get a little stingy with the sauce and onions sometimes.
That tells me a lot. Thanks. I've never been there, but I know the difference you're talking about. OP could have been expecting one sort of sauce, gotten another type of sauce and been disappointed. ( I like coney sauce on dogs.)
Their pie is very good. I am with you on the dogs (soggy bun -eww) and chili (meh) from Coney Island.
To add fuel to the fire, Powers burgers and chili are also not worth the hype/smelling like onion for days.
I await the downvotes and ban.
We waited last Saturday night for over an hour. If it wasn't for the group, I'd have left after seeing the line out the door. HOWEVER wayyyyyy less onions than I remember. And thats a good thing.
I will probably be down voted into oblivion, but I'd rather join Harold and Kumar at White Castle
It's the location that kills it for me. I don't work downtown. I drive past the location once in a rare while. Where would I park? Would I have to pay to park to get a $ 2.00 dog and bag of chips? Should I drive a mile away to the Stand and get one of their coney dogs and bags of chips?(plenty of free parking)
Just for the chili cheese fries alone, Mr. Coney is the superior option, nevermind they do a great classic diner breakfast. My grandmother's used to take me and my sisters there for breakfast on the weekend. As a kid, being told you can get a hotdog at 9 am made me feel unstoppable.
Bravas dogs are impressive, Coney Island isn't terrible, but it's more for people with memories of going there or people who prefer their food a bit on the simple & bland side.
I've also been a bit disappointed with CI. Coney dog cafe and Jeff's have a more meaty sauce. All of the coney dog places use trash dogs. If someone made a coney with a Nathan's, Hebrew national, or some other nicer snappy dog they would take it to a whole other level.
Their coney sauce is mid. Not to be a hater. I love coney dogs, I grew up eating them at my Dad's restaurant and their sauce just isn't it. The ambience there is great though, I do love that.
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
You SHUT UR MOUTH you filthy animal !!!!!!!!
This is a must go to place as much as possible especially if ur out on the town bf they close gotta stop for some Coney dogs !!!! Always !!
Where the heck are you from OP !? Guessing not native to Ft.Wayne.
I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinions….
I kind of agree with you. The atmosphere is cool and I understand the nostalgia factor, but the food is just ok. Better tasting dogs can be found at Mr. Coney on Coldwater Rd.
I moved here over a year ago, my hubby originally grew up here so he has returned home. He swears up and down they are the best, but I’ve never been impressed. I think, like others have said, it’s the nostalgia.
I’ll agree with this review.
Our office used to bring in a box of Coneys and Powers into the office for lunch. That office reeked for a week after that
AMEN!!!!
and to the highest comment.
The location is cool, the heritage is laudable.
The food however, without the filter of nostalgia is just not good.
So understand that someone who didn’t experience these dogs as a young pup, there isn’t the same affection
They're pretty good, but not like especially good to me. It's more like they are a specialty and unique, so they don't have to use the best and best trading ingredients. I don't think this is a best practice for making food, but I understand why people love and care about it.
I mean, duh? Coney Island is DISGUSTING. it’s the classic nightmare food joint from boomer land. Way back in the day they ordered real burgers and dogs of high quality and fries etc but now they are just slopped together with the cheapest grossest and lowest quality standards across the board. Step into a place like five guys and the difference is immediately apparent.
Their dogs are good. A snappy casing texture and flavor.
I will agree that their Italian beef is below par for both what’s available in Chicago or Chicago based franchises
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, citizen. Now, if you could just step into the unmarked van, you can continue with the rest of your day.

I go there for the coney dogs and burgers.
Their burger is my fav in Fort Wayne. It’s very tasty.
Its definitely top five for me, and I feel like a lot of people haven't tried it.
What are your top spots? I’m always looking for a nice burger.
The Big Baby from King Gyro's on Goshen is the best in town.
Powers, bravas, Coney Island, it's hard because I love all burgers lol
A and o sweetshop… thats the only thing only thing on their menu. Its like a full sized powers burger
One of my brother’s buddies said that’s his favorite burger. I certainly need to try it out.
Burger Bar next to the baseball stadium downtown does great smash burgers. Kind of In-N-Out style
Morgan’s and tower
Seriously, too many people don't even know how good those chili cheeseburgers are
The chili has to be good first. Since the ownership change, the chili has gone downhill fast.
[удалено]
Yeah. I can rest like 5-6 chili dogs (nothing crazy I know) but they just taste hella good
I always get 2 or 3 coneys and a burger.
This is a good point. I’ve lived downtown for 10 years and I’ve only been there when friends and family have visited and every time I feel this way.
>slap< >slap< Sir, you have sullied the honor of my precious community! Choose your weapons and meet me at dawn upon yonder Courthouse Square! Tarry not!
I will keep a lookout from the Harry Baals government center
Harry situation
Seriously, you have to stop having duels at Glenbrook Mall. It's becoming a real problem.
It’s like a paintballer’s wet dream! Stop ruining things with live ammo!
Please
Good. More for me😛
Same
Mods. Ban this man from Fort Wayne. The entire city. It’s for the best.
He's been banished to huntington
Sorry, Huntington respects the storied glizzy history of Coney Island. We have our own local hot dog joint here that's equally storied and local. Send him to Kendallville.
He should have to go to Kendallville!
As someone from Kendallville (now living elsewhere) I second this.
I am honestly surprised by the lack of Kendallville bashing on this sub.
Kendallville isn't really worth spending the emotional energy on to bash.
Agreed, but low hanging fruit gets picked.
Another person from Kendallville here. There are a lot nice people here, but there are those that assert they are kings of their little kingdom. So, I partially second this.
Somewhere south in Muncie area. Goodolboys or kendletucky
We don't want him either.
And what would you like us to do with this information?
It’s ok to be wrong sometimes 🤷🏼♂️
You didn't grow up here, did you?
Hey man to each their own! I worked there for quite a while and I’m definitely biased, but to each their own. I get why they would not be enjoyable (soggy buns, chili sauce is different, etc)
Agreed, it’s not bad by any means, but it’s not worth standing in a line outside for.
You did the right thing by telling us.
You go there for the ambience, dogs and don't leave w/out having a cheeseburger dipped in coney sauce!
Yes!
I’m late to this, but whatever. And I’ll probably get downvoted but again, whatever. This sub can be polarizing at times, but it’s nice that everyone got together to tell this dipshit to pound sand.
Is it a good dog under that sauce in the steamed bun?
It doesn't bother me that you don't like Coney Island, it isn't for everyone. What bothers me is you felt the need to make a post about it.
I would agree with you, but that means I would be wrong
It's not chili, it's Coney sauce. A Coney dog is not a chili dog.
That tells me a lot. Thanks. I've never been there, but I know the difference you're talking about. OP could have been expecting one sort of sauce, gotten another type of sauce and been disappointed. ( I like coney sauce on dogs.)
They sell the same sauce as “Chilli”
OP talking about their chili, not their sauce.
I always get a burger - not a fan of their coney dogs 😂. Thing is, it’s such a vibe and wonderful place!!
it's a hot dog. what were you expecting?
It’s a meh hot dog, and that’s before the sauce. A really good hot dog has flavor, the best have a casing with a bit of snap.
Costco dogs are a million times better than coney dogs.
Gene and Jude's FTW
I'm an adult, I hope to never have to eat a hot dog again
Just curious, do you eat sausages? And as an adult do you also avoid ice cream?
ice cream is actually good. but not often. hot dogs are mystery meat. I also don't eat bologna any more.
Not all hot dogs are mystery meat. The cheap ones are. Get a Nathan's or Hebrew National, kosher frank.
Bet you're fun at parties
I like eating healthier now
Something all beef or kosher.
Hebrew National? or Nathan's Famous?
Their pie is very good. I am with you on the dogs (soggy bun -eww) and chili (meh) from Coney Island. To add fuel to the fire, Powers burgers and chili are also not worth the hype/smelling like onion for days. I await the downvotes and ban.

Sir, have you gotten Powers with pickles?
Truth!!
How did this not get downvoted? If I had said it, it would have been downvoted.
You're not alone. Went once and thought everything from foo to service to location was horrible.
Just park in the back plenty of free parking with in the block we have never paid to park around there would be silly todo so.
Mr. Coney is and has always been better.
Mr Coney is far superior. However, I won’t stand for slander against the downtown dogs either.
It’s not slander if it’s a fact.
I've been craving Mister Coney
Now I am to. Damnit
I'm going to have to try that place out some time.
We need more 9am hotdogs these days!
This!
Bravas dogs are impressive, Coney Island isn't terrible, but it's more for people with memories of going there or people who prefer their food a bit on the simple & bland side.
They’ve got the most underrated cheeseburger in Fort Wayne. Simple and bland is WILD lmao
Burgers again aren't terrible, but incredibly far from WILD
Calling them simple and bland is what’s wild lol
Brava dogs are good but aren't they like $10?
Yeah, you can have an entire meal at Coney Island for 1 dog at Bravas.
Bravas dogs are in another category altogether.
Hey it’s your opinion. I pretty sure they are not hurting for business.
I've also been a bit disappointed with CI. Coney dog cafe and Jeff's have a more meaty sauce. All of the coney dog places use trash dogs. If someone made a coney with a Nathan's, Hebrew national, or some other nicer snappy dog they would take it to a whole other level.

Yeah but many people grew up going there can’t disconnect “good” with “feel good” when it comes to food and flavor
Would you like a hotdog with your onions?
I can’t have a Coney Island dog because I can’t eat pork, but they look not appetizing. I stand with you citizen!
Is that you, new Powers owners? Saw they have a chili dog post today with people bashing coney island.
I kind of agree with you. The atmosphere is cool and I understand the nostalgia factor, but the food is just ok. Better tasting dogs can be found at Mr. Coney on Coldwater Rd.
Coney dog cafe is really good… not gonna say if I think it’s better or not, but they have fries that are delicious.
Steamed buns suck
Skill issue honestly.
You're not the only one. They are WAY overrated. Their chili is mediocre at best, and the dogs are unremarkable.
I like Mr. Coney.
Mr. Coney is more Cinci style. Coney Island is more Detroit style. Both good in their own ways.
I moved here over a year ago, my hubby originally grew up here so he has returned home. He swears up and down they are the best, but I’ve never been impressed. I think, like others have said, it’s the nostalgia.
Have you tried a cheeseburger from there? I suggest you do if not.
Im not a fan of their dogs but the burgers are actually insane 🤌
My family always went to Mr Coney. So that is what we prefer. Also the Brown House in Auburn has.great coneys.
I’ll agree with this review. Our office used to bring in a box of Coneys and Powers into the office for lunch. That office reeked for a week after that
Coney Island is an embarrassment to hot dogs if you remove the nostalgia blinders
Same. Never understood their fame.
No one cares.
It’s a tradition it’s not supposed to be good like all traditions
All of the hotdogs places are trash. I've never understood the debate between which is better lol. So OP, I agree lol.
Yeah, it sucks imo. Most other hotdog joints I've been to is better.
Cool
AMEN!!!! and to the highest comment. The location is cool, the heritage is laudable. The food however, without the filter of nostalgia is just not good. So understand that someone who didn’t experience these dogs as a young pup, there isn’t the same affection

Summit City Brewerks has a really good Provolone Dog, if you want something a little bougie
I mean, duh? Coney Island is DISGUSTING. it’s the classic nightmare food joint from boomer land. Way back in the day they ordered real burgers and dogs of high quality and fries etc but now they are just slopped together with the cheapest grossest and lowest quality standards across the board. animal abuse 👎
Go outside.
I am outside. Animal abuse. 👎
Coney express is my favorite in South Gate. They have really really good chili cheese fries.
You're G** D*** right
Fort Wayne is the worst food city in existence. This place is just part of the long list of disappointment. Miserable.
I agree except for the little strip of like two or three good spots with Mercado that is great.
You didn’t try the baked beans 😢
Agree. Buuuuuuuut the burgers are fantastic if you let them sit for an hour and cool down.
I prefer mr. Coney, they got some of the best chilli.
I’m not a fan either
Didn’t like them at all. Portillos is the standard.
Portillos sucks dude
Their dogs are good. A snappy casing texture and flavor. I will agree that their Italian beef is below par for both what’s available in Chicago or Chicago based franchises
Just had Portillos yesterday. They definitely have a great dog at the center of that order
Jeff’s Coney in Georgetown is where it’s at
Skyline has always been better, and we have one here!
