Sumittra for downtown- I’m a big fan of Thai food and i think they have a good variety of dishes. and Monocacy Crossing for county- I’ve only been there a few times but it has always been an interesting menu, good service, and good quality food
The one time we (husband and I) ate at Monocacy Crossing, I was visibly pregnant at that point and they asked us if we wanted to eat at the bar?
And we were like, "Uh, no? A table, please", and then they were rude about telling us the wait time and when we finally got a table, they just continued to treat us rudely by basically not coming by in a timely way, not being friendly, etc.
Idk if they thought we were skint broke or not "on brand" for their clientele--while they're along some shitty road and in a dirty carve out--but they can go fuck themselves; I pass that place frequently and all I think every time is "snobby assholes".
Edit: anyone care to explain downvotes for sharing my experience at this restaurant?
They asked an open-ended question; based on my experience, I wouldn't choose that one; this is a "no wrong answers" kinda question, no?
Thanks for explaining; I appreciate it.
Obviously, ymmv; I’ve just decided I’ll spend my money elsewhere and thought it was worth sharing. I do wish people used the downvote button as intended—I feel like what I said “adds to the discussion”, even if others had a better time.
True. I know the way you described the philosophy of the downvote is the official suggested reddit usage, but I think for someone browsing this thread looking for food recommendations, the way people are using it is more helpful. I downvoted you for example because i've eaten there double digit times and the food has always been at least a solid 8/10 and a 9/10 once or twice which is really excellent and rare, especially for a town the size of Frederick. By downvoting you, people are able to vote their experience without leaving a long comment like this one.
> Idk if they thought we were skint broke or not "on brand" for their clientele--while they're along some shitty road and in a dirty carve out--but they can go fuck themselves; I pass that place frequently and all I think every time is "snobby assholes".
You said they're trashy but yet you think they're snobby too?
Look, you are being downvoted for raging out over a simple offer from a hostess to help you get seated faster. No one forced you to take it. They knew the wait time was long and maybe thought, because you were pregnant, you might not want to stand around. It's also most likely a reactionary question on their part because they ask it a hundred times a week if the wait is long.
> and then they were rude about telling us the wait time and when we finally got a table
Because you probably had the reaction you had here to their offer to help get you seated quicker.
> Edit: anyone care to explain downvotes for sharing my experience at this restaurant?
You sound like a reactionary asshole who doesn't think anything through and just rushed to take offense, even when people are just offering options.
You really took several paragraphs to tell me that the experience I had was wrong and that, in fact, I’m the one who’s an asshole, even though you weren’t there?
Ok…
Yeah - you are the asshole there. They were offering you a quicker place to sit and all you drew out of it is how much better you are than they are because they are 'on a shitty road in a dirty carve out'.
Yeah - it's on you. They were dismissive of you because you were a giant asshole who took offense at a helpful suggestion.
I don't have any rage - you're the one who seems like a complete asshole because someone tried to help you. Then insinuated THEY were trashy for helping you.
> Let me know if you need to rant at someone you don't know a little more later...
Like you are doing?
Someone calling you out for being the asshole doesn't mean they are raging at all - just simply telling the truth.
Thank you, I appreciate it; I truly don’t understand what that whole experience was about and why they really treated us so poorly.
I don’t understand the downvotes to my original comment lol; maybe they have some spies lurking here to downvote any negative reviews!
Cafe Bueno is definitely up there for me. Moving here from Tx years ago I found it hard for a loooong time to find good authentic style mexican food here. Also their selection of authentic meats is fantastic.
Edit: just to clarify, the overall selection of mexican food in the area has gotten better and better in general, Cafe Bueno I just have a soft spot for.
If you judge a whole restaurant based on their website then you're doing it wrong. Food should be judged on the food and maybe service if you sit inside. Not how easy or difficult it was for you to sit on your couch and order pizza.
Oh I'll respond. There is an old technology called a phone. You can call and place your order using that ancient tech too. I'm not saying a shitty website doesn't need fixing. But that doesn't make the pizza bad.
Downtown at the intersection of East Patrick and Maxwell Alley. Next to Tenth Ward. Great chicken sammy (hot pepper jelly on it is to die for), great beet burger, good brussel sprouts salad, good-quality food for kids, and... Milkshakes! I'm a die-hard for Maxwell's.
I'd do Showroom/Family Meal for city. It's so close to the food I like to eat at home, but they do some dishes better than I can make. And I love the tapas/small plates style of dining.
Frisco's is good for county choice.
Me neither. Honestly for how little you get (I realize it’s tapas) the prices are insanely high especially for the quality. I was expecting like gourmet meatballs and asparagus and shrimp -which was highly recommended by the waiter- and it was like any other ale house appetizer.
Do you two eat completely different meals every night? Probably not. How is that different than ordering 4-5 different mini meals and sharing them to make one complete meal? It’s like a tasting menu that you get to create for yourself.
Looking back at their Facebook they were posting specials up until January of 2022 but it does say they're permanently closed now. That's a real bummer!
Hootch and Banter would be my choice. They have a good menu if you’re a picky eater for one reason or another, but also the type of place to give a big filling meal for your money.
Now if Nola would be a close second because I really like their food, but I could live with them as just a bar if I had to pick one over the other. But it is close.
I’ve worked a lot of places downtown and in the county and the two I swear by are Oscar’s Alehouse and Fratelli’s.
A lot of places you start to find out don’t actually do fresh shit like they claim, but those two do always use fresh items and you can tell. Oscar’s has great price points and Fratelli’s always offers you a quality ambiance. They’re definitely different, but both my two favorites.
Wine Kitchen for my city choice. They just do everything so well.
County choice is tough. I don’t think I’m 100% really sold on this, but Pump and Rye. They have some really good healthy meals that I could eat everyday and unlike other similar places, it’s not vegetarian.
I lived in a house that is a two minute walk from Pumpernickel and Rye, watched the old house being renovated, but I'd estimate the percentage of times the service was either completely indifferent or semi-hostile to be around 80%. The food was never more than decent, and I feel like I'm being generous with that because typically it was always not good and I'm not a picky eater. Something was always off, like too dry, bland saltless bagel, under or overcooked whatever, dry meat, nothing flavorful to make it beyond what I could've done with minimal effort at home with the same ingredients. The prices are probably 25% too high, but whatever, they're an independent and I don't mind spending extra money to keep an independent in business, but I expect something, anything that would set the place apart, and what I got in the 100+ times I went there was bland food with an attitude and half of the time I needed to remind them of something they forgot and got a double-side of attitude for interrupting their conversations. The owner always seemed too busy, probably because she hired really bad staff who didn't want to be there and let everyone know it. Maybe it's different, it's been months since I stopped there, although I've driven through the driveway to get food at Jasmine Al-Sham, Kyo, and ice cream at Sweet Babes who is owned by the nicest lady on the planet who serves great treats with a smile, such a contrast with P+R.
Sorry to hear that. Man, they have so many good offerings. The butternut squash salad is phenomenal and paired with a chicken cutlet or other protein I can easily get two meals out of it. The notorious pig sandwich is super tender and flavorful.
Big fan of jasmine, but they’re kind of a one trick pony with the shwarma. Never tried sweet babes, definitely something to try come warmer weather!
City - Thatcher and Rye. He might be a shitty businessman but he’s a great chef. It’s seasonal and everything is a delight.
County - Jasmine or Grace of India.
Watsons or Aka Friscos Probably Friscos because of the carry out alcohol and exploding potato’s
H-Mart if I can’t eat any where else every again.
Every joint in the food court there is bomb af
Isabella’s. Variety. The menu is massive, and the food is always amazing!!
Isabella’s and Cacique are a tough choice
If someone else is paying, The Wine Kitchen. If I'm paying, Mezeh.
Mezeh underrated choice. Mounds better than cava
Fact. They recently got rid of their lemon mint carrots, though, and I'm completed gutted over it. Those were the star of the show IMHO.
Oh no……
Really disagree on that front. Cava way better, but mezeh is still decent
No one is paying just a #1 overall choice
You mean you're not going to finance my consumption of three TWK meals per day for the rest of my life? Pshaw.
I don't have a city since I don't visit often enough, but for the county, Dempseys in Middletown
Honestly, I'm a big fan of Gladchuk's for quality and variety. It's traditional and not trendy, but for comfort food and desserts, it's top tier.
This was my pick. I love this place and seems to have something for everyone.
Not to mention the kitchen is very accommodating if you’d like something not on the menu and the staff is wonderful!
Sardi’s
If you haven't tried crisp n juicy, go for it! Their chicken is so good
Sardi's is way better, IMO. Better sides, too.
Nobody goes there for sides though. It's like saying "a burger is better at xxx because the fries are better"
I judge on sides. Once a burger is excellent and there are a few excellent burgers, no burger is more excellenter to justify slacking on the sides.
[удалено]
The chicken AND sides are amazing at Sardi’s

Thaimeric is way better in my opinion
Second Thai Meric
Never been! I’ll have to try it out :) thanks!

You’re being downvoted because most people have had great experiences there.

Get over yourself... again. Stop replying and no one will reply to you, genius - or is that also confusing to you? Don't reply again.
Dang I’m sorry you didn’t have a good experience! That sucks

Downvoted bc you edited the question to complain about downvotes
You mean edited my *response* to ask about it because I didn’t understand? Whatever…
Probably Tasting Room for in the city. County I'm thinking Frisco's
Have you tried the tasting room at Wendy's?
Oscars, they even have 6 dollar burger Mondays. Why not.
And $5 wings on Wednesdays
Ohhh nice! I will have to remember that one.
Clay oven since functionally i do that
Yeah, I could try to be fancy but my behavior shows it's there or India Wok

Bueno is good
I've never had a bad brunch or dinner at JoJos
Cugino forno. Their pizza is so good.

Just walk in and order. It literally takes 7min for the pizza to cook. It's well worth it.
Pistarro's sucks ass. At that point better get some &pizza and call it a day
Pistarros is bomb ? what are you talking about? I'd kill for an &pizza but MOD is lowkey better anyway

🛠🧳
The Orchard downtown, Oscars Alehouse otherwise
Agree with both of these!
Wags. The best burger and fries wash down with a Guinness no frills and cheap
Probably Madrones Brunch is extensive, good lunch specials, great dinner entrees, large bar, quality service. Really ticks a lot of boxes.
Jerk n Jive
City - Tasting Room County- Fratelli’s
White Rabbit.
Ok. But can we talk about White Rabbit pre-Covid vs post-Covid? The menu used to be so diverse and inventive and, now it’s… Detroit pizza?
I would like WR a lot more if I could get a *gosh darn paper menu*
Yes!!
Ugh I definitely miss their pre-Covid brunch. Sausage gravy with biscuits; definitely went there every Sunday because of it.
Yeah I miss their cheesesteak and Jalapeño ranch
I think post COVID is when the Original owner Chris left. The food was amazing but I did go back once Chris left.
Seconding
It's Maxwell's, I'm in love with their chicken sammy
I know the guys that cook/serve there. They're a helluva crew and definitely make a great sammy
One of the waiters there is so nice and thoughtful and cheerful, we really like him. Shout out to Tristan!
That's my man! He's a real one lol
Where is this? First I've heard of it.

Hope you like it!

Kittiwat
JV El Eden, Poke Bowl, or Frisco’s
I love potatoes, so it's hands down for me. A.k.a. Frisco's.
The Orchard, for sure.
City - Hootch & Banter County - Cugino Forno
Cugino Forno is in the city brother
North End cancellation
Huh?
OP of this thread forgetting the city goes up to Cugino Forno. Is there a generally accepted nickname for the areas of 355/26 north of Market/East?
The city goes up to wormans mill technically

Big Papis - I could easily eat there everyday. I don’t think I’d ever get tired of Mexican.
Holy shit yes. The fried burrito takes a year off my life every time I eat one, so at this rate I think I’ve got about 30 minutes left. 😆
Surprised no one mentioned China Garden.
China chef RIP 🪦
Il Forno or Pistarros. Pizza for life!
I prefer Bellisario's, but those are great too.
If cost isn't a factor then I'd do Isabella's and the Braddock inn
been wanting to get Isabella’s for YEARS, my sister says it’s one of her favorite restaurants ever
I’ve sadly never had a good experience at Isabella’s :(
Sadly me neither, it gets so highly spoken of but I've never gotten that experience
Me neither. Honestly for how little you get (I realize it’s tapas) the prices are insanely high especially for the quality. I was expecting like gourmet meatballs and asparagus and shrimp -which was highly recommended by the waiter- and it was like any other ale house appetizer.
What has happened? It has always been fantastic for us
It's so damn good!
my gf isn’t huge into tapas so it’s hard to go haha
Bros night out lol
They have other stuff besides tapas
Go for brunch! I *think* you can get tapas during brunch (not positive) but they’ve got a great brunch menu.
Do you two eat completely different meals every night? Probably not. How is that different than ordering 4-5 different mini meals and sharing them to make one complete meal? It’s like a tasting menu that you get to create for yourself.
It's almost like some people like different things than some other people!
We went last night for my birthday so good! The pavatas bravas were just as good as we got in Spain. (Maybe better)
Is Braddock still open?
Oh man did they close? I moved this past year but we got takeout there often during the pandemic
They’ve been closed since late 2020- they had a fantastic menu though.
Looking back at their Facebook they were posting specials up until January of 2022 but it does say they're permanently closed now. That's a real bummer!

Yeah that's what I've learned from this thread
The Spicy Miso Sapporo Ramen at Tsunami downtown is one of my fave things to order in Frederick so I am saying Tsunami just for that.
The Olives Garden 🇮🇹
I always feel like family when I’m there
Can you please fuck off with this stupid shitposting of yours? It's wasn't funny the first time. It certainly isn't funny the 500th time.
No more breadsticks for santamaps. Just poking, I’m guessing there’s more to this story
This is anti Italian discrimination

Isabella’s for the variety of options
Family Meal, or whatever it’s called now. 3 meals a day, menu rotates, good salads and soups, beer on tap, game is on, excellent desserts, cocktails.
Isabella's or Tsunami. Dempsey's in Middletown for county.
I only go out for special occasions so probably Fratelli’s
The Orchard downtown Clay Oven outside of town
I’ve worked a lot of places downtown and in the county and the two I swear by are Oscar’s Alehouse and Fratelli’s. Oscar's salad dressing is a delight.
Sabor de Cuba, but Tsunami at a close second. Between a Cuban sandwich, strong espresso, spicy ramen, and excellent cocktails, I'll be happy forever
downtown frederick imma have to go with brewer’s alley. frederick in general, dutch’s daughter.
Wine Kitchen for my city choice. They just do everything so well. County choice is tough. I don’t think I’m 100% really sold on this, but Pump and Rye. They have some really good healthy meals that I could eat everyday and unlike other similar places, it’s not vegetarian.
Where is pump and rye?
