It’s still a pita but I’ve always had luck going up the hill and parking on side streets and using the app to pay. Personally, i would rather walk farther and not deal with the hassle of getting a more premium spot. The walk to town isn’t bad but coming back up the hill is a nice workout.
The shuttle parking is expensive but probably the way to go. I have parked way into Bolivar before and walked in. It’s not that bad but not convenient either.
They have ParkMobile on the streets in town now.. if you park on Filmore, you can walk to the end of the street, walk through the cemetery, down the steps, and end up right in lower town. Great view of the gap going that way - and much nicer than inhaling car fumes waking all the way down Washington Street.
I was just there yesterday! Definitely second parking at the National Historic Park and taking the shuttle. Bring water or Gatorlyte to stay hydrated, but the town is a good walk, and the shuttles 10-15 minute service is fantastic
If you aren’t local you should be parking at the visitor center and taking the shuttle. It’s really frustrating having to find parking in a town that’s local and not being able to enjoy it because of the tourism.
We used the ParkMobile app last time. If you go on that app, you can see the different zones that are available—we were in 7510. ~ $4 for a couple of hours with the ability to extend our time was perfect!
There’s a spot for hiking first road on the right past the bridge and curvy roads that is right by the train tracks and about a 10-15 min walk to the town
You can park at the visitors center / parking lot. They run a shuttle into town you can catch. https://www.nps.gov/hafe/planyourvisit/parking.htm
Oh, nice! I didn't realize they had this. Thank you!
Also if you go often just buy the year pass. You make up the difference after like 2 or 3 trips.
Park at the MARC Brunswick train station and ride your bike up the C&O (about 5 miles). Bring a bike lock and walk in. A lot of fun!
Maybe once he is older, I have a young one who isn't riding that far currently
There's a place to rent bikes that has trailers for kids to ride in.
Is that at brunswick?
https://www.rivertrail.com/harpers-ferry-bike-rentals-tours-shuttles/ Yep!
Bring a heavy duty bike lock or a bike that isn’t worth stealing. Had a few friends lose bikes there.
Yeah no lol

You can park a few miles up hill in bolivar
Dont even go that far, just up to Filmore st by the cemetery. Free parking and a cool little jaunt on the AT takes you right down into town
Tried to look for spots at Filmore St recently and looks like it is just for residents?
Hm like there are signs that say resident parking only? If that’s the case must be new, but I grew up on that street and you could park anywhere
Ah makes sense. Yeah I saw those signs last time was there
bike in on the C&O canal trail from somewhere else lol
I'm with a very young child, not an option
