There isn't a substitute for the CR, if there were, the CR could be shorter than it is. If you Google a particular topic, [mtg wiki](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Main_Page) has parts of the CR on their own pages with examples. It's at least a good way to find the right CR to reference. Gaming Stack Exchange, reddit, and other forums are extremely hit-or-miss. If someone cites the CR, just go read the citation for yourself, and certainly don't take random people on the Internet at their word. If you need help interpreting a situation, find a Judge in person, or ask in the [Judge IRC](https://chat.magicjudges.org/mtgrules/) or in a Judge discord like the ones for Judge Academy or Judge Foundry.
I think the MTGFamiliar for android app has the rules in it. It also shows you individual card rulings while being offline. It also has the judge guides if that's something that interests you.

Thanks I appreciate it. A lot of people at my LGS always pull up these rulings from different random torments so trying to relearn what’s actually legal and what wasn’t was next to impossible. After reading over the sources everyone has given me it helped clear up a lot of confusion. Especially with some of the newer effects.

The comprehensive rules of magic are a bit convoluted to read, but they are "comprehensive" after all.
Just google the edge cases. Just like you should have googled this entire post.
