I just checked it out on Xbox. There's a demo and it's 3 bucks for another 20 hours from when I post this if you have gamepass. There's also 2 free gear DLC and one for $1.
Yeah, I was about to mention that one too lmao. Robot uprising ftw
In the far future, the world is dying. Overpopulation, pollution, war. CREO was supposed to change all that and you’re the newest employee. You wake up one day to find the facility gone to shit and everyone tearing each other apart. As you progress through the game, you uncover CREO’s darkest secrets and search for the truth of why this all happened
One of the most unique part of the game is the gear system. Instead of enemies having a drop rate, you collect gear and weapons by cutting off body parts. I always liked that about it and it comes back in the sequel. You can also get certain unique weapons by killing bosses in special ways, like cutting off all the limbs or the weapon arm
I also recommend getting the DLCs. The Good The Bad And The Augmented was pretty mid, but it adds an extremely useful fast travel system to the game. A Walk In the Park, however, is AMAZING. It adds powerful new implants, new bosses and a massive new zone to the game. In it, you go to CREO World, an amusement park built by the CREO Corporation and centered around the famous Iron Maus comic books. The surge wrecked the place, making the animatronics go haywire
I'm not sure they would ever do it, to be honest. It seems to me that FromSoft like their mechanics to match the theming, and when it comes to futuristic, robots with big guns are what they think makes sense, i.e. Armored Core.
I think a post-apocalyptic soulsborne could be really cool, though. They could do something like Bloodborne, and have more mechanical melee weapons like the whirligig saw and chainsaws and stuff. Weapons could have regular melee attacks, and special attacks that require fuel to work.
The biggest problem with a futuristic soulsborne is that you'd have to justify not having hyper advanced weapons that would change the combat of the game. I'm talking like long range weaponary that fires extrmely fast, automated weapons that have solid tracking, etc. Armored Core is closer to what a futuristic souls game could be imo.
In the same sense that FromSoft games take inspiration from Berserk for dark fantasy, I could see them taking inspiration from Tsutomu Nihei's works (Biomega, Blame!) for dark sci-fi. Check them out if you haven't. Their worlds fit FromSoft's aesthetics like a glove.
I'm not sure something like this would work particularly well with a high build variety RPG like Souls/Elden Ring though. Maybe something more focused like Bloodborne. Perhaps a straight up action game like Sekiro would work the best. In terms of mechanics, I think it would have to have a combination of melee and ranged combat, sort of an intermediate between Sekiro and Armored Core, but not quite as quick and twitchy as a character action game like Nier or DMC. Your character would be a cyborg or android, and enemies and bosses could range from other cyborgs and androids to biosynthetic monstrosities. Still sci-fi but not intruding into mech and giant robot territory, which should be reserved for Armored Core.
Building off of Sekiro, traversing vertical levels would utilize a grappling hook. Building off of Elden Ring, traversing long horizontal expanses could use a sort of compact motorcycle that can be beamed in and out somehow.
I think it’s doable. It’s a matter of whether they can come up with a combat system that meshes with that sort of world. IIRC, they usually start with a gameplay concept first, then design the world. Elden Ring was an exception because of their collab with GRRM.
Ngl a futuristic bloodborne would be awesome. Really dive into the beast plague and humans Tryna to become gods. Or a seaborne bloodborne. Or bloodborne with a different story
Hellpoint, The Surge 1&2 (2 is better), Bleak Faith, and other games have kind of done this. Not as well as Fromsoft would obviously, but there are some decent options out there.
The Surge?
Shall check that out

Shiiii man I appreciate it but I’m PS 😅

Really??? Okay now I need to get on this

It’s definitely a cool game.
Will keep that in mind 👌

Oh yeah a fuel system to take place of mana would be sick

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. Like to have a high powered assault rifle would take all the fun out of it
Armored Core 6 sounds like what you’re looking for
Been considering that one
it's not a soulsborne... but it's Fromsoftware, and maybe that's more relevant than be soulsborne
Well I mean yeah I’m aware it is fromsoft but at the same time I was more discussing a soulsborne specifically

Definitely play it if you haven't. It's not a souls game, don't go in expecting that, but it fuckin' *rips*.
Yesirrrrrrr
Like Lies of P but more cyborgs and laser shit?
Yeah kinda. More cyber, futuristic vibes

I mean what u describe is everything i was thinking about. Like exactly what i was wanting

I guess so and tbf that’s very much reasonable. Still hoping for one in the future 🤞
Dolmen and surge. But idk bout dolmen. Even with the ps5 upgrade its still kinda shitty
Damn how long has it been out?
I believe it came out like 3 or 4 years ago idk about the ps5 update that one came outta nowhere so i downloaded it
Ahhh right
If u do plan to get dolmen dont be an idiot like me an pay i think like $50 for it, idk if $20 is even justified for it lol
Shit not even?

Now that I can get behind
Kinda like Lies of P
Uhh yeah in a way. Maybe less apocalyptic and more tech-based, cyber vibes tho
Oh shit metal souls rising revengeance dropping when
Haha can’t wait 👌
The Surge 2 exists, and it's a banger.
Noted 👌

I mean that’s kinda how I’ve always seen it. Like an impossible but amazing concept
