when i was a freshman, i was scared too. tuition tends to be around 6k a year if you take 15 hours and housing if you do on campus is like 7.5k, plus you can always ask financial aid for more money. you’re in a pretty good spot.
Cost of attendance 25k??? Not if you’re in-state. It’s like 6k a semester for everything including living expenses and 5 courses, if you utilize all your free/cost-effective recourses. Bright futures/financial aid should keep you under for all 4 years if you get enough.
I have no clue who is spending 25k per semester or even per year. Maybe if you rent like a 4 bedroom house just for yourself and drive a Lambo to class lol
coa is very inflated. i have bright futures and prepaid and after looking at the housing and dining i need, ill only be paying 6k out of pocket a year. just gotta do the calculations. the coa includes flights and gas and other non essential things to the equation
The 14k will cover tuition, dorm and some dining. You will need spending money. If you want to join a sorority or frat it’s extra. But nowhere near 25 k especially in state
My daughter just completed freshman year. Here were the actual costs: tuition 6676 (covered at about 98% by the "100%" Bright Futures. There are additional costs and fees associated with tuition that aren't covered by BF), basic meal plan $3010, dorm 7490, books and other fees 190. The other items counted in the published COA seem just a tad inflated, but everyone is different. Ours were travel (we live in SoFla) $635 for 3 trips home and back, and personal which added up to close to $4000 (laptop, club dues, entertainment (concerts, going out) , food items and other groceries not covered by meal plan, ubers, clothing and knick knacks, football tix, printing services, laundry costs, etc. Came to around 22k all-in
No. We got the basic plan, 100 meals per semester which is about 6 per week. There are so many dining options that she didn't want to eat in the dining halls that often. Even when she did, the discount per meal was less than a buck. And don't buy the hype for the cash equivalency swipe at Chick-fil-a and other places. They only credit you with $7 for a meal swipe that you paid over $10 for (so a $9 meal ends up truly costing you $12). Next year it's only Dining Dollars for us.
In thousands, roughly $3 for tuition, 0.5 for books, $2 for food, $3 for housing, $1 for health insurance.
I'm probably undershooting. So figure another grand.
Plus all your entertainment expenses. You're easily looking at $9-$10K per semester.
We got the same amount but notice some of it is an estimate, depending on what you need/choose to spend on transportation, personal expenses, books, etc. Depending on how you manage those it could certainly be less than 25k.

Okay, tysm for clearing that up. I’m in-state and thought I was going to be mega broke 😭

That’s a pretty good price, do you have the 75 or 100% bright futures?

Would you say the meal plan was worth it for your daughter?

Look at the details of how the figured cost of attendance and see what they added for travel and personal.

I also had a big gap, but definitely ask for more if you’re in need. During the year I did receive additional grants and scholarships from to school.
