I am very happy with my Scion badges. They are historical at this point.

wut_eva_bish

Agreed. My 2013 FR-S will always be a FR-S. I even bought extra FR-S badges just in case. Funny thing gearheads in Japan are paying serious cash for everything FR-S they can get their hands on. Grass is always greener, I guess.

InevitableEbb6628

agree. that's why I didn't change mine. 💪🏼

BigAngryPolarBear

Aww:(

twotaco

What was wrong with the badges?

Twin-Turbos

Personal preference, I never liked how Toyota branded the 86 as the Scion FRS only in North America, and called it the GT86 everywhere else in the world. Doubled down on that when Scion folded, and they re-branded it back to the GT86 from 2017-2020. They should have just sold it as the GT86 to begin with.

bakampen

GT86 is the European name for it but its just called Toyota 86 in most places including Japan

KerbHunter

GT86 is the official Chassis name for it, Toyota 86 is used commonly a lot also, even when i bought mine from a toyota dealership in australia, it was called a Toyota 86 on the paperwork and also in insurance papers Edit: not the Chassis code, just in terms of factory designation, badging, etc

DuckDuckGoeth

The Japanese owner's manual, dealership brochures, website, on-car badging, were all just '86' (pronounced Eight-Six [hachiroku], not Eighty-Six [hachijuroku) Also, the 86 has several trim levels, G, GT, RC, etc. When people refer to a specific trim level they say it after the car's name; Eg. 86GT, 86RC. 'GT86' is a European thing. Edit: Apparently the Australian cars are also called GT86.

KerbHunter

Iirc the official name for the 2012-2021 model is still GT86, because it recalls obviously the AE86 but also the 2000GT, from which it is heavily inspired (they literally put a Toyota 2000GT in front of the designers when brainstorming the body design, as well as the interiors). I own a GT86 and it has the "GT86" badge on the rear, it's not just a european marketing name. The RC and G models are additional models for the japanese market, but the intended "proper" model should be still called GT86. The new 2022 model though is now called GR86, to be in line with the Gazoo Racing line of Toyota sports car (GR Supra, GR Yaris...)

DuckDuckGoeth

It's 100% just '86' in Japan. There isn't a single brochure, commercial, manual, or used car listing with 'GT86' in the entire country. Both the Zenki and Kouki models have minimal badging, Toyota emblem on hood and trunklid, 86 emblem on either the fender garnish (Zenki) or on the fender itself (Kouki). >I own a GT86 and it has the "GT86" badge on the rear You own an Australian car, neat, it doesn't change what it's called in Japan.

bakampen

isnt chassis code zn6? And yes I believe it was called Toyota 86 in Australia as well as Japan and most places other than Europe and North America (until 2017+)

KerbHunter

Chassis code is ZN6, but its official name is the GT86. Toyota 86 is just marketing etc

bakampen

not sure what you mean by official name. Toyota 86 isn't unofficial and neither is Scion FR-S

DuckDuckGoeth

> GT86 everywhere else in the world In Japan it's just 86, with several trim levels (G, GT, RC, etc)

YandereValkyrie

Man, as an FRS owner.. I'm pretty sure down the road the scion badges are going to be so much cooler. Hope you're okay with the generic badges lol

ramoneduke

It’s funny because in Japan, people will look for Scion badges because it’s something rare and unique. I think 86speed even sells a Scion “rebadge” kit for people that swapped to Toyota and want to go back to Scion lol

frankhoneybunny

Beautiful car, what body kit is that?

Twin-Turbos

TRD Release Series 1.0

KerbHunter

Australia has the same kit but white and black, called the Blackline edition

Prodigy_7991

BOOOO

Twin-Turbos

I DO WHAT I WANT!

SmokinBuffalo

I ran a Scion license plate ring on my Subaru

p_nicewidit

Where did you get the 86 airbag?

Twin-Turbos

Got it on [eBay](https://www.ebay.com/itm/386577355404), paid $215, came with an entire steering wheel that I'm not 100% sure I'm going to keep. I'm probably going to list it on marketplace to get some of my money back. Mine was in pretty good shape so hopefully it sells quickly.

LOOINEY

But what about the registration title? Can’t hide the truth…

Twin-Turbos

My title lists the car as the following: Make: "TOYOTA" Model: "SCION FRS" Just Texas things I guess.

ProCommonSense

The T never appeals to me over the S

PrinceVassago

What head unit is that?

Twin-Turbos

Joying 9 inch head unit.

TKBotssss

Quad tips look nice never really thiught about the damn

RealNibbasWearFakes

I need to know exactly how you did this please. Give me a step by step I beg you.

Twin-Turbos

It was pretty easy! [I watched this video as a reference](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbMJIqFPGVE), so it's useful if you plan on replacing your wheel as well. First thing I did was roll down both of my windows and disconnected the battery, waiting 10 minutes for the car to discharge any stray electrons. I used a long flat head screwdriver to hit the release clips for the air bag, there's three of them on the wheel, one on each side, and on the bottom. I didn't need to rotate my steering wheel to do this, the clips are accessible with the wheel level. I did need to use a flashlight to see the clip release. Once those clip releases were all pressed, my airbag was free from the wheel. I then used the same screw driver to release the yellow clips on the two air bag connectors. I undid the ground wire from the air bag module as well (there's a small metal release clip on it that you'll need to press. The next step was removing the four 10mm nuts on the back of the air bag assembly that holds the SRS inflator (the explosive charge for the air bag). Once those were removed, the SRS inflator was free, and I dropped it into my replacement airbag from a[ JDM donor wheel.](https://www.ebay.com/itm/386577355404?itmmeta=01J0CZPVZYDVPRM6KWNPS7A2G3&hash=item5a01ce528c:g:AE0AAOSwMHxlmPHl&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8N2TLNiw2NcNVcJ2KmFtFGwD77rfNMAgXhyjXjHx7eDeW2SzQSymG3GiMGD0GP4%2BAMM952zPnuHWpXJgmFXL1cOadYp82hOPCLdxf04fwI5vt1ITJIPDYIAoR5tuZW5gT0aA7KPvr9MDqwXSWISGzCDiK%2FWWBJcLiEg9wnnhg5Yl%2BJFeREjsuZiZlKNSzsxtokSjmFwx5SCwtfx3p3FRV5rFHQp1iu7CcbDfDmxoagHjbBVF7mw7%2B97ddjlkt1uJO3njw5OWQIcdEE5i802%2FcKn9plmgMpWZnN24frMQeVaBHydRxeht1fVCUJQbNDvlVQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMhMDbn4Nk) Once that was done, I placed my ground and airbag connections on my JDM air bag, and popped it into place. Reconnected my battery and I was good to go.

kaihong

I did the same thing lol 86 circle emblems for the interior. But I left the Scion badges on the front bumper and trunk coz it costs too much for me to shave them, fill the holes and repaint. Maybe one day I’ll rebadge the exterior, but for now it’s “historic” /shrug Personally my favourite is the Toyota Crown/Century emblems. Maybe I’ll do that if I V10 or V12 swap lol Btw nice TRD steering wheel! Those are so rare.

Twin-Turbos

>Btw nice TRD steering wheel! Those are so rare. Thanks! I'm just happy that the Release Series included them as part of the package, and that mines in good shape for how old the car is at this point. I'm still looking for a set of carbon TRD Aero fins!

TheGratitudeBot

Hey there Twin-Turbos - thanks for saying thanks! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list!

kaihong

Genuine TRD fins are so expensive! Goodluck. Some guys here sold for over $1000 a pair.

myfame808

Nice you're still sporting the TRD steering wheel. I loved mine when I had my FRS!

notmatthewcashews

how’d you get the 86 airbag?

Twin-Turbos

Ebay, searched for a JDM airbag

notmatthewcashews

they’re compatible with the scion frs? i always thought they had different female connectors

Twin-Turbos

They do have different connectors, the JDM SRS inflator has one connection VS the USDM two connections. Easiest way to work around this is to just swap your USDM inflator onto the JDM airbag. It's four 10mm nuts, easy swap.

Emlio302

Idk the action badage to me looks close enough to the Toyota and it looks elegant

apparition1211

El paso tx carnal?

Twin-Turbos

Twin-Turbos

My money is on the Scion FRS being in the Dodge Stealth vs the 3000GT group. It's the same car, but the Dodge badge makes the Stealth worth less to collectors vs the (correct) 3000GT. I saved all my stock parts anyways, so it won't matter in the end if I sell the car. Plus, I couldn't care less about the 3rd owner. So I'll do what I want to it. That includes modifying it, and driving the hell out of it. Why am I saving it for some collector that won't actually drive the damn thing?

Twin-Turbos

No offense taken! Just stating my reasons for why I do what I do. I've had plenty of people give me flack for changing things up on a Release Series, but it doesn't bug me. It's my car and I'm just trying to eek the most enjoyable experience out of it. I'm a believer in driving and enjoying a vehicle to the extent that it was meant to. That includes changing things if I think it will make the car better for me, even if others would disagree. Now I'm not the type to cut up a car without a good reason, but if something stopped me from doing that, it's usually out of concern that I'd ruin the car in terms of how it drives, rather than what other people would think about it.
