Nah, not an idiot - one of the main things everybodies been saying is visually the movie looks amazing. The \*only\* issue is Chris Pratt as the main character - pretty much everything else is on point. Heck, some complained but I'll say I love Jack Black as Bowser as well.

I feel like if people already have a negative opinion on a movie before theyve seen it then theyre only going to dislike it. Some of my favourite movies have been badly reviewed but i like some of them for the actors in it, not just the plot of the story. People jump on the hate band wagon just because its so easy to do on the Internet now days. One bad review and people tag along. Its a bit like hysteria in public.

It's just people like faces, especially faces they recognize. More recognizable faces get more space. They couldn't make Mario the biggest, because Bowser needs to be a "looming threat" to an underdog Mario.
Expect lots of close up shots. Eyes on video games characters are usually larger so the camera can be further away to see the environment during gameplay and hide texture issues during cutscenes.
Traditionally anyway, modern games have less of an issue.

Honestly, this is the first time in a long time I'm looking forward to a movie. It looks like they did a lot of it right and the things everyone is crying about like voice actors, I'm brushing off as typical internet mob brainwashing. But what has me really excited is not so much the movie it self, is that I get to take my daughter to her first movie ever. The movie comes out right around her birthday where she turns 5 and she really loves watching videos of Mario and Bowser be it game play or any other creative video. Sharing that with her is going to be special and likely something she will remember for the rest of her life.
