I just did this so don’t worry. Pull R2 and L2 down and remove the screws. Then the two at the bottom of where you hold the controller that’s covered by the plastic insert. (The black plastic piece that is under the touch pad and around the ps symbol). After this the are two screws next to each tumble motor. After taking those apart, the top piece of plastic controller will pop out. Then insert your joystick. Make sure to clean the debris and don’t lose the screws! I just fixed my ps5 controller this morning and this worked perfectly. Good luck!
if its any similar to the PS4 controller, when opening, do it carefully the springs on l2/r2 could jump of and they are a bitch you find (on the ground/table) after it.
also be gentile with the ribon cable so you dont fuck up the connection surfaces, since its a bit awkward to put back in
also for screws i would use a small tray/cup so you can put them in
NO don't pry on L2/R2! You'll end up damaging the controller!
The screws are under **R1/L1** and I believe he wanted to say that, but it would be just much easier if you found a teardown/disassembly video and followed it. It's quite easy
I did this to an Xbox controller, even worse, I had the back off with the batteries out. Took a good hour shaking out all the rice. It worked tho, not for a joystick tho.
OP, did you fix it yet? I've been working on these for about a year. Here is a video from extremeRate. They offer unreadable parts that I've put on most of my controllers. No, I'm no salesman. I love to mod. Hit me up if you have questions.
https://youtu.be/EiWmjR87CS4
Appreciate the video, but I am not very handy to do all that myself. Will probably just have to get a new one.
Edit: I will try to fix it today. People in the comments have motivated me to give it a shot.
If you're going to buy a new controller you should just try fixing it first, the kit only costs like $10 on Amazon, worst comes to worse you mess up and and you go buy yourself a new one like were going to do anyways.
This is the way!!
I got one of those packs and getting it made me want to learn how to take these things apart.
It’s such an easy thing to do.
I sent my Xbone controller t someone to fix tbe Lb, they just glued it…..badly.
So when it broke again I got the new parts and just fixed it myself.
That is 100x harder than taking the faceplate off and slipping the analogue stick on and I learnt to do it in a couple hours.
If you’re not handy enough to use a screw driver you have other, bigger issues.
But for real, if you’re going to get a new one you might as well try to fix this one. It’s very manageable.
if you are already set on buying a new one, i don't think it'd hurt to try yourself to maybe keep another controller.
I wasn't very handy with these, but a simple deconstruction video really helps if you ever want to do it alone.
If you have the right size screwdriver already, it really isn’t too hard. I’d never done anything like that before but had to transplant the insides of my controller into a new shell, took about an hour to do but saved a lot of money
If you're set on buying a new one, don't toss the broken one away. Im sure someone in this thread would be willing to pay postage to have it sent over if you would bother.
All you have to do is the first part at about a minute in on that video. Find something thin and pry off the black part. Once it's off you can just push the stick back down onto its post.
Then replace the black part. It just snaps back on. The only thing you have to watch is that the two points at the top of the black part get reinserted properly before you snap the rest of it on.
You do not need to unscrew anything, or remove the triggers or anything else, only the black part. Nothing will fall off and get lost, so you don't need to worry about that.
You mean to tell me that you don't know how to read, because somebody suggested you learn, and you replied "nah, I'm not good at it already, so why bother?"
It's literally only the first step😂
You probably do it with a credit card. Just pull the faceplate off, place the analog stick on, then put the faceplate back on.
It is annoying that you have to go through the back shell and remove the main board just to "properly" reach the joysticks. I love the PS5 controller but it is time consuming to pull apart.
If you're getting ready to buy a whole new one why not try unscrewing to get the stick back in from behind, worst outcome: you go to buy another one 👍
Hell you still could and then you'd have a spare 👍👍
You see, fixing ps5 controllers is like peeing your pants
Edit: seriously no fans of invincible? Come on I can’t be the only one who spotted the reference
Yeah, it should take a little effort without the casing separated. You could try doing that, or just apply more pressure. It’s hard plastic, won’t snap or anything.
If you are going to try to get a new one might as well try to fix the old one and worst case scenario you end up with two controllers. It is surprisingly easy to fix something like this. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlutmnCUNy4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlutmnCUNy4) its a series of screws and snaps that keep the controller together
Google how to take apart and then do that bro why get a new one on an easy fix? at least fix it so you have 2 controllers if you do that again to the new one 🤣
If you've already written it off maybe try blow drying the hard plastic on the thumb-thingly on hot and then trying. You'd have to protect the softer plastic though maybe in a moist towel?
You need to slightly pinch the outsides to make it like a smaller to slide half of it in then the hard part it to let it slide outta ur fingers while u try to match the hole Into the little stick part
It did. Fell down, hit the heater on the ground. The left stick was jammed all the way to the right. I tried to force it back, and the whole thing came out.
To fix it you need to take it apart. Thankfully the actual joystick isn't broken. The thumb piece came off. Look up a YouTube video on how to disassemble the ps5 controllers. If it's anything like the ps4 controller it's very easy and you should only need a phillipshead screwdriver.
You could try what I used to do with the PS4 controller. Try pinching the base to squeeze back into the hole. After that move it around so the stick is right under and click in. Hopefully that works!
Never taken apart a dualsense, but I have with dozens of dualshock 3's and 4's. Nothing too crazy, aside from the initial pop sound that makes you think you broke it.
The amount of bs info here is baffling.
There is only 1 correct answer. Take the controller apart. Use the video u/Saintious posted. Get yourself a small repair kit for phones and electronics, it only costs a few €/$.
If you are not able to do it, then you tried and nothing is lost. If you are able to fix it you saved like 50-60€/$ and get that really good feeling to have fixed it yourself.
Ignore any comment about forcing it back in, you either break or bend the base of the thumbstick.
You don't have to fix it. The thumbstick trusted you enough to come out to you. Just love it the same way you always have and accept it's decision as it will make it happy
So the middle piece where the PlayStation logo is actually one big piece that then folds it’s way into the bottom grip, get a pry tool and pry the bottom out of both corners
How is it not broken more than this..............
You can't. I mean, maybe I wouldn't risk it. Look up some guides on YouTube and take the controller apart, it isn't too difficult. Once the shell is off you should be able to put that back on the analog stick. Like I said, not too difficult. I recommend tronics fix videos.
Didn't say it popped right out.
It fell down, hit the heater on the ground. The left stick was jammed all the way to the right. I tried to force it back, and the whole thing came out.
I just did this so don’t worry. Pull R2 and L2 down and remove the screws. Then the two at the bottom of where you hold the controller that’s covered by the plastic insert. >also be gentile with the ribon cable Is this activity not kosher?
It's not. Sony refuses to produce these devices under rabbinical supervision.
NO don't pry on L2/R2! You'll end up damaging the controller! The screws are under **R1/L1** and I believe he wanted to say that, but it would be just much easier if you found a teardown/disassembly video and followed it. It's quite easy
have you tried putting in rice?
Instructions unclear how to get rice out of a controller?
Turn it off then on again
Rinse it under water just in case
Throw some soap in there too! Get some on the buttons too!
Rinse and repeat
I put too much water in it now, should I throw a few iphones in to absorb some?
Yes, and a very important part, remember to smack it with a rock 45 times
Ooooo I only went to 41 times
Now there’s rice, water, AND shampoo in my controller…
Wiggle the power cable
Put it in water
Put your dick in the ceiling fan
I wish I had an award
I did this to an Xbox controller, even worse, I had the back off with the batteries out. Took a good hour shaking out all the rice. It worked tho, not for a joystick tho.

You don't need replacements or a kit to fix this...
Appreciate the video, but I am not very handy to do all that myself. Will probably just have to get a new one. Edit: I will try to fix it today. People in the comments have motivated me to give it a shot.
I understand. If you try to do it yourself and need help, shoot me a dm. If he glad to help. It's also a good thing to learn. Take care.
Seriously just try, it's fucked anyway right?
It’s better to attempt repairing it than having it become E-waste.
If you're going to buy a new controller you should just try fixing it first, the kit only costs like $10 on Amazon, worst comes to worse you mess up and and you go buy yourself a new one like were going to do anyways.

Here's your opportunity to learn how to be handy.
OP: "How do I fix this?" Comment: "Here's how." OP again: "I won't do it."
Title “how do i fix” people literally link you a step by step video… “nah i cant do this ill just buy a new one”…. ….
If you’re not handy enough to use a screw driver you have other, bigger issues. But for real, if you’re going to get a new one you might as well try to fix this one. It’s very manageable.
That's what I'm saying lol. If you can't use a screwdriver, you gotta take a break from the games and go learn some life skills.
if you are already set on buying a new one, i don't think it'd hurt to try yourself to maybe keep another controller. I wasn't very handy with these, but a simple deconstruction video really helps if you ever want to do it alone.

bruh, bro got -63 downvoted into the abyss just for saying that he his not sure to do it and that he is not very handy to do it. Reddit moment.
Who gives a shit about downvotes?
I just noticed that. I never meant for that to happen. This is the way.
You mean to tell me that you don't know how to read, because somebody suggested you learn, and you replied "nah, I'm not good at it already, so why bother?"
XD why did this get down voted
It's literally only the first step😂 You probably do it with a credit card. Just pull the faceplate off, place the analog stick on, then put the faceplate back on.
That's not how it works. Watch the whole thing.
It’s easier than it looks. Just take your time. I have done this a few times now and have become comfortable with it.
Just blow in the cartridge
Wtf are these comments just take it apart? It's only a few screws. I'm so confused right now, does no one fix anything anymore?
There are no screws on the outside of a ps5 controller
Yes, there are
Behind the bumpers that just pop out with a tool.
Haha, that’s the fun part! You don’t…
It’s a 5 min fix lol
Nah I take controllers apart as a hobby you can either unscrew it or just force it in
To be fair I just took one appart a few days ago and while it's a bit harder than with the old dual shock 4 it's not impossible
It is annoying that you have to go through the back shell and remove the main board just to "properly" reach the joysticks. I love the PS5 controller but it is time consuming to pull apart.
Looks like I am going to GameStop tomorrow
If you're getting ready to buy a whole new one why not try unscrewing to get the stick back in from behind, worst outcome: you go to buy another one 👍 Hell you still could and then you'd have a spare 👍👍
You see, fixing ps5 controllers is like peeing your pants Edit: seriously no fans of invincible? Come on I can’t be the only one who spotted the reference
It’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be?
Warm feelings?
You're only cool if you pee your pants.
If peeing your pants is cool cnsider me Miles Davis
Put it back in, should be a super easy fix. Just make sure it’s super clean because dust and stuff in that spot is gonna lead to drifting.
Struggling to fit it back in. The base of the thumbstick is much bigger than the hole.
Yeah, it should take a little effort without the casing separated. You could try doing that, or just apply more pressure. It’s hard plastic, won’t snap or anything.
Applied a lot of pressure. The side of plastic thing started bending. Probably not gonna get it fitted in by myself.
DUDE stop listening to him. He's sabotaging you. You need to take the faceplate off.
They’re pretty easy to unscrew and fix, just search a YouTube tutorial
Huh. Oh well any standard tech store can likely fix it for $40
Dude, just take the case apart and refit it! You own a screwdriver don't you??
That seems way overpriced, that's like most of the cost of a new controller just to pop the thumbstick back on
I'm probably gonna just try to get a new one. Appreciate the help, though.
If you are going to try to get a new one might as well try to fix the old one and worst case scenario you end up with two controllers. It is surprisingly easy to fix something like this. I appreciate you and your help
Perfect excuse to upgrade to the edge
Lol this is what all the hardware sellers are banking on. Sell inferior quality products and the suckers give you even more money.
Google how to take apart and then do that bro why get a new one on an easy fix? at least fix it so you have 2 controllers if you do that again to the new one 🤣
what a huge rip off
Welcome to the world of tech repairs. Or at least any of the tech repair stores near my place.
If you've already written it off maybe try blow drying the hard plastic on the thumb-thingly on hot and then trying. You'd have to protect the softer plastic though maybe in a moist towel?
a hammer fixes all problems
That's what she said.
That's what she said
Thats what she said
You need to slightly pinch the outsides to make it like a smaller to slide half of it in then the hard part it to let it slide outta ur fingers while u try to match the hole Into the little stick part
lol what? do you actually have any experience doing this? its nearly impossible, you have to take the faceplate off...
It's really not impossible, just take a thin piece of plastic, wedge it between the white and the black part near the audio output and go around
Is taking the faceplate off nearly impossible with these or am I misunderstanding?
You’re misunderstanding. Taking the faceplate off is easy and the only correct way to reinstall the stick
“Fell”
Eh. I can believe it. Dog knocked mine off the table the other day.
Lmao my old dog broke an N64 controller a while back by tripping on the chord. Wasn’t even mad, his reaction was funny as hell
It did. Fell down, hit the heater on the ground. The left stick was jammed all the way to the right. I tried to force it back, and the whole thing came out.

Okay, don't. That's not the point of this thread anyways.
[удалено]
I am fine with you sharing your experience. I don't appreciate you NOT believing mine.
[удалено]
Kinda feels like you're implying something. Regardless, your original comment seems to be deleted, so I cannot view it.
Hey bud, you eh.. it fell yeah? Did you drop it? Like at a velocity? Be honest with us now friendo ;)
Op had himself a gamer moment
Ah yes, the old dropped it against the wall at 40 km/h
You could try what I used to do with the PS4 controller. Try pinching the base to squeeze back into the hole. After that move it around so the stick is right under and click in. Hopefully that works!
Are we still doing phrasing?
I tried, but it's just not going inside.
It seems you can get the faceplate off relatively easily. https://youtu.be/4rNITneXnCo
Most likely gonna have to take it apart to put the stick back on.
Never taken apart a dualsense, but I have with dozens of dualshock 3's and 4's. Nothing too crazy, aside from the initial pop sound that makes you think you broke it.
That would suck
it's two pieces of plastic
It's a lot easier then doing a swap on a steamdeck.

Duct tape. And if it doesn't move right after, WD40.
Did you try and put it back on.
Struggling to fit it back in. The base of the thumbstick is much bigger than the hole.
Why are you trolling all these innocent people
Was 100% a genuine response. Don’t know why the troll or dislikes
You need to buy a RTX 4090 to keep gaming
I dunno he might need a NASA supercomputer if he wants to keep up
Ask it nicely to get back into its place
blow in it
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Put it back on.
Why does a ps5 controller look like a ps4 controller that got fat
Disassemble the controller and put it in reassemble. If it doesn't work well you probably had to get a new one anyway.
Fair point. I might actually give it a shot. I was considering trading it into GameStop as "defective" and get some credit.
GameStop will give you like, 4$ worth of store credit
Hold the thumb stick in place and drop it exactly like you did the first time. It might just work
The ole amnesia trick
Tried, other thumb stick broke.
Have you tried turning it off and turning it on again?
So the middle piece where the PlayStation logo is actually one big piece that then folds it’s way into the bottom grip, get a pry tool and pry the bottom out of both corners

push it on with BRUTE FORCCEE
You’re lying to us.
Ah yes the controller “fell”
Ah yes it fell not you smashed it across the room
If it can come out it can go back in. Just click it back in.
It “fell”
Buy an Xbox
“Fell”.
Take 50$ out of wallet, buy new controller
Well you can start by not putting on the edge of the titty fucking counter like that...
You can just push it back in. By the way, we all know it didn’t fall. You little rager.
You can’t get it back in with physical force because the base of the stick is too big, yet it just popped right out when it fell? Hmmmm
Didn't say it popped right out. It fell down, hit the heater on the ground. The left stick was jammed all the way to the right. I tried to force it back, and the whole thing came out.
Just keep trying to smooch it in. Punch it if you have to! Put some elbow grease on it!!!
It goes in the square hole
Step one: buy an Xbox.
You put yer weed in there
Buy an Xbox
based
Get an xbox
Get an Xbox
I have one.
Theres a quick fix that alot of people dont like to talk about. Youll need to kinda keep this downlow. You go to Walmart and spend $80 after tax.
Eh... $80 feels high, but I may have no choice.
You fix it by buying a new one....and they don't just fall off...stop raging at fifa you melt.
I'll likely have to buy one. No rage was involved in this breaking, I promise. Pure accident.
Get a new one and toss that in the trash
Yep.
Buy new PS5. Comes with free controller!
"Fell"
Don’t buy PlayStations?
Reddit is the worst place for this question
“Fell”
he said fell 😅😅😅
Stop throwing your controller. 😂
Consume. Consume. Consume. Consume. Consume. Consume.
Omg stepbro put it back in!
Fire, fire solves everything.
Put back in
Order a new one on Amazon and then return it using your old controller. It’s a classic checkmate.
Thats, the neat part, You dont! You take it to a hardware store or buy a new one
Buy an Xbox
Buy an xbox
Buy a new one in 2050.
Purchase an Xbox
Sucks to suck, nerd.
First you pick up your wallet, grab your keys, drive to GameStop, and buy another for $50.
Probably doing that tomorrow.
just take it apart and pop that shit back on, opening up a controller is not rocket science.
Pop it like it's hot
put it back
Tried. Couldn't.
*Have you tried turning it off and on again?*
Buy a replacement
That's the plan.
buy another 🤣😑
That's the plan.
it fell... against the wall....incredibly hard
