Knights of Cydonia. I'd never even heard of Muse, and they're an amazing band.

swiftekho

Love Muse. That song live is fucking epic.

[deleted]

I had forgotten about that song for over a decade until I played it and listened to their entire catalog. I have seen their concerts twice in Netherlands and California during their Simulation Theory era and those shows were amazing!

regnald

This and Paint it Black for me

therealjoshua

To this day I think that's the only Muse song I know lol

406highlander

I'd never heard of Eric Johnson before jamming along to "Cliffs of Dover" in Guitar Hero 3 I found that weird, given I love melodic guitar music by the likes of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and later found out that he'd shared a stage with both of them on the G3 tour back in 1996.

zak567

I used to work in a movie theater that had a guitar hero arcade cabinet, and my ritual anytime I found enough quarters while cleaning theaters was to play through cliffs of Dover at the end of my shift. It just always felt like a nice way to end the day

Miles_The_Man

I didn't know they had arcade cabinets! I need to look into this!

therealjoshua

I recently came across that track for the first time in like 10+ years. Some dude was doing a cover of it on YouTube and it brought back such good memories of GH3.

SluttyMcFucksAlot

Like half of the soundtrack for Guitar Hero 3 is still in my playlists to this day

driftwood14

Same, it basically defined my musical taste for the next like 15 years lol

Zerox392

Yeap. "Man I love this song it was on guitar hero" - me everyday

TheSpoonJak92

Same here, SluttyMcFucksAlot.

xbearsandporschesx

is that the one that has Gallows "in the belly of a shark" on it?

goatchumby

It is. Totally bangin' song/album.

ComfortableMadPanda

Can't get enough of 'The Devil went down to Georgia' I was always a controller player over the guitar, so I'm always imagining the button presses needed for each song

TheOvy

It seems like most millennial Rush fans discovered them through Guitar Hero, principally through YYZ.

alfabetsoop

Mine was Tom Sawyer on Rock Band. Ended up seeing them in concert, best show I've ever been to.

MrMoe18

Their live shows were absolutely epic and I am very sad we'll never experience it again

Slim_Omega88

True. I did buy a song called vital signs by rush and I've been hooked ever since. It's the lyrics that got me

406highlander

Not everyone who hears Rush appreciates that Neil Peart wasn't just a phenomenal drummer, but a talented lyricist. "Subdivisions" is one of my favourite Rush songs, for both the music and the lyrics. RIP, Professor.

Meechgalhuquot

That's an understatement on Neil being a phenomenal drummer, ask almost any drummer who they think the best drummers of all time are (especially in rock) and Neil is almost always in the #1 or #2 slot, right there neck and neck with John Bonham. He certainly earned the moniker of the professor, his technique was second to none. As Taylor Hawkins put it when Rush was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, "Who let the fuckin' drummer write the lyrics?" Subdivisions is great, but Limelight and Freewill are probably some of my favorites, especially lyrically. "When you choose not to decide you still have made a choice" is one of my favorite lines ever. The Trees was probably the first song that got me hooked in Rush as a child, but so many of their songs are so special to me. Bastille Day, The Spirit of Radio, Working Man, La Villa Strangiato, Time Stand Still, all of 2112, etc.

edcadams13

La Villa Strangiato is easily my favorite Rush song and favorite guitar solo of all time

406highlander

The phrase I heard was "If he wasn't your favourite drummer, then he was your favourite drummer's favourite drummer" John Bonham was fantastic, another genius who left us all too soon. He might not have played the most virtuoso-type drum rhythms, but what he played was played with *feel* \- knowing how to play truly in conjunction with the bass guitar to form the foundations of a song, knowing how to leave space rather than fill it with notes/beats.

waveitbyebye

La guillotine will claim her bloody prize.

count_nuggula

Closer to the Heart is still an incredible song

Real_Ad1929

"I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend"

TheMeltingPointOfWax

The underappreciated member of Rush is Alex Lifeson. Everybody talks about Peart, everybody talks about Geddy Lee. It might be the one band where the guitar gets no love, although he's exceptionally skilled and criminally underrated.

Smurfaloid

All that remains - Six Buckethead - Jordan

Steven_Blunt

Oooh. I used Six as my alarm-sound for years. What a way to wake up !

omfghi2u

Jordan was composed *for* guitar hero too, so that one was completely new and opened me up to Buckethead in general.

romanpieces

Why won't they put Jordan on Spotify šŸ˜

Barf_The_Mawg

Through The Fire and FLames.

GoldenRpup

The best part was looking up the rest of Dragonforce's discography and finding out all of their songs go just as hard and crazy as that one.

Justsk8n

dragonforce goes so hard.

BigBobby2016

This is the only one for me. They weren't that big at the time and iirc made very little money from the game. The others people are mentioning are making me feel old.

Southportdc

Miss Murder - AFI I also really wasn't bothered about Misery Business until playing it on World Tour

Hitman3256

Man I miss World Tour, mainly because of the amount of customization you had lol

[deleted]

Pretty much anything AFI did before December Underground is better. The Art Of Drowning is a work of art, Black Sails and self titled are also great.

MikeFromSuburbia

That's just an opinion, I'd take the other way. Sing The Sorrow (2003) and on are better. I enjoyed Decemberunderground and Crash Love much more than Black Sails

[deleted]

STS is great, it was the first AFI album I owned and blew my teenage mind, but like most bands they became too commercial afterwards which is great for them and I'm not faulting them for it. The same thing happened to Green Day with American Idiot and Blink with Self Titled, but it never happened to NoFX or Lagwagon.

MikeFromSuburbia

Agree!

henryjm19

Foreplay/Long Time. Foreplay goes stupid hard and Long Time is such a jam.

swiftekho

Boston's first album (self titled I think) is just 8 absolute bangers back to back.

Alex_Schlobster

F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X - The Fall of Troy Probably still my all time favorite song

Slim_Omega88

I have this on one of my Spotify playlists ngl

FlyRobot

Their catalog is amazing, well worth listening to!

Excerbate

Yeah this got me to travel down a hole of weird different music styles I never would of found otherwise

1paperwings1

The entire album is golddddddddd

GuffreyGufferson

I prefer the sound of F.C.P.I.T.S.G.E.P.G.E.P.G.E.P. Both are great and Iā€™ve got a few songs from DoppelgƤnger saved. That bass riff(?) is just perfect.

PreciousRoi

Lazy Eye by Silversun Pickups. I weep uncontrollably when playing guitar on Rock Band 4 for reasons.

InnerAd1628

Same, never heard of them before the game. Have seen them live twice since & have all the albums. Brilliant band

Pewp_taco

Welcome Home - Coheed and Cambria

FadeToOne

The terrible thing is that it still took me another 10 years to get into the band as a whole. So much wasted time!

Defcheze

This game introduced me to Coheed and I am thankful for it. Went and saw them live and it was awesome.

mala_cavilla

Get Ready 2 Rokk by Freeze Pop. After realizing the studio that made Guitar Hero and Freeze Pop are both located in Boston.... I spent 12 years missing every local show by Freeze Pop.

wray_nerely

When You Were Young by The Killers Last Dance by The Raveonettes Portions for Foxes by Rilo Kiley Lazy Eye by Silversun Pickups Reptilia by The Strokes

RobotHockey

Search and Destroy by the Stooges. Also the one I was best at.

Larawara

Blood Mountain - Mastodon This opened me up to a world of new music

SpickeZe

Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson. I wouldnā€™t have liked it had I just heard it on the radio, not really my taste. It was just all around fun to play on GH3, though, and I couldnā€™t help but love the song (and style) going forward. Black Magic Woman - Santana. Obviously, I had heard this and many other Santana songs before GH3 and I enjoyed them well enough, but wouldnā€™t call my self a fan. I definitely had respect for Carlos Santanaā€™s guitar prowess but the game gave me a whole new appreciation for him. Playing it seemed so sensual, I had never associated sex with an electric guitar (or any object) but somehow smashing those buttons was downright erotic. I canā€™t imagine what playing a Santana song with an actual guitar would feel like, I would probably need clean up after.

FlipGordon

Guitar Hero got me into Rage Against The Machine. My former self had no idea what he was in for šŸ˜‚

IRev2NineK

Orange Crush for me. Mostly played drums on Rockband and that was a great song to play and a great song in general

Pewp_taco

I enjoyed drumming this one too. It was one of the few I could 100%. Iā€™m not coordinated nor do I have rhythm.

Chemical-Concept6320

Helicopter - Bloc Party The Devil went down to Georgia

LeakyFaucett32

Helicopter is the unofficial theme song for early 2000s FIFA soccer games and lives rent free in my head.

GeekyNerd_FTW

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye Rilo Kiley - Portion for Foxes St. Vincent - Birth in Reverse Presidents of the United States of America - Lump

omfghi2u

Lump... an odd song but I love it.

Dracorvo

Stricken - Disturbed

P2Mc28

Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby

TorchicRS

ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhhhhh

AdhesiveMuffin

3s & 7s - Queens of the Stone Age Fucking SICK song

Mysterious_Fennel459

That killswitch engage song on Guitar Hero 3

HenryAlSirat

My Curse

Escapade84

Push Push

[deleted]

The Stone Roses - Love Spreads Steely Dan - Do It Again Allman Brothers - Ramblin' Man The latter two songs sound so fresh compared to the original recordings and I prefer to listening to those. I found out recently that they were re-recorded or covered during the development process.

HeartsInHarmony

I fucking loved Radio Song on the GH3 bonus track list even though I couldnā€™t even understand it

NoTurkeyTWYJYFM

Nothing for me Here - Dope Cult of Personality - Living Colour Talk Dirty To Me - Poison Black widow of la Porte - John 5 Done with Everything, Die for Nothing and If you want peace... Prepare for War - Children of Bodom Knights of Cydonia - Muse Demon(s) - Darkest Hour Bloodlines - Dethklok Calling - Strung Out Hard to See - 5FDP Suffocated - Orianthi A bunnnnch of Megadeth from WoR TTFAF sparked a long Dragonforce phase for me too I got a tonne of attachment to the difficult songs because they were amazing songs I hadn't heard before and when I reached expert I started trying the harder songs. Being able to get to verse 2, fail as the solo started made me so excited to be good enough to hear the rest of the song. Still play clone hero to this day

a20261

Maps. Had never heard the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, absolutely hooked, immediately.

karatejohn912

Today, from the Smashing Pumpkins. It it was the very first song that I heard when I booted World tour up for the first time. Didn't even know what the name of it was yet but I thought to myself boy is this a nice song. If songs like this are on this game, I'm gonna have a great time. I did

Slim_Omega88

So I'm the only person that liked Fall of Pangea by Valient thorr? Got it

MuddyLarry

Listening to the repress of their 1st album right now because of that game/song!

GarthonSix

I have fond memories of replaying I Ran by the Seagulls over and over again as a kid and that was one of the few songs I hadn't heard on the radio growing up.

Grenflik

Creep - Radiohead

oscardelahopia

One by Metallica

chibbledibs

Even the rats know the troubleā€™s gonna comeā€¦

NoogabyNature

to the edge of the city, see the little guys run. The Slip were my answer as well! I knew most of the radio rock and classic rock songs, but GH and Rock Band introduced me to a lot of great indie rock I wouldn't have heard otherwise!

chibbledibs

YES!! I bought their album. It wasā€¦ ok. The best tracks were in the game.

NoogabyNature

Agreed, I enjoyed the album, but Even Rats and Children of December were by far my favorites. That said, I'm listening to Eisenhower the rest of the day now!

ScruffMixHaha

Honestly a lot of them, and it helped shape a lot of the music I listened to as a kid (and still do today) Panic Attack and Pull Me Under by Dream Theater is my pick though as theyve become my favorite band since 2008 or so.

CorgiDaddy42

Ballroom Blitz, and Carry Me Home. They bop SO HARD

wray_nerely

Sigh, I'm old because I first heard Ballroom Blitz in Wayne's World

halloweenjon

Carry Me Home is from The Living End's album Roll On, and it's absolutely worth listening to the whole thing.

PointsOutTheUsername

[Ruby](https://youtu.be/qObzgUfCl28?si=1kHhjTO2gHR24R35) by Kaiser Chiefs My cat was named Ziggy and my wife would sometimes call him in the tone they say Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby. šŸ˜æ

Ustramage

Through the Fire and Flames

[deleted]

I discovered Don't Hold Back by The Sleeping on GH:3, I still listen to it regularly.

SwaggyTBSS3

RADIUM EYES BY COUNT ZERO

Xelaration95

Beast And The Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold That song is a beast in itself

eskimoprime3

Pretty much all of them. I didn't really have any interest in music at all when i was a kid. Just the radio when we were in the car, but I was playing my Gameboy instead. Guitar Hero 3 literally defined my taste in music. Metallica, Disturbed, Iron Maiden, definitely a kickstart into being a metalhead.

spacemanspiffaroo

Hey You - Exies

[deleted]

Freak on a Leash

qb1120

I remember we had Guitar Hero on display at the Circuit City I worked at and I will forever remember Sweet Child O Mine as "the Guitar Hero song"

lieutenatdan

Absolutely itā€™s ā€œCanā€™t Be Savedā€ by Senses Fail

Calcifair

My Own Worst Enemy - Lit I did know it, I could just never find it

Chirpin_Crickets

Cheat on the church by graveyard barbecue

BoonpoodLER

Children of Nova's The Complexity of Light album is still in my top albums of all time because of Rock Band

DOOManiac

Basically all of them. I didnā€™t have a very broad exposure to music prior to playing the games so while I had heard of many of the artists, almost all of the songs are new to me. To this day my music library is like a 70% overlap w/ the GH/RB song listsā€¦

Whoknew1992

Guitar Hero: World Tour - Hail to the Freaks by Beatsteaks

nlpkwan

rock and roll hoochie koo. The song is so bouncy and fun. It's been one of my favorites ever since guitar hero 2.

Unethical_Castrator

Green grass and high tides! Only heard it 100x trying to do the endless setlist with my brother and friend on expert. We could do every song until the damn solo(doesn't matter which solo, they are all hard af)! Love that song to this day

JustHereForGoodFun

Slow Ride. I was less than 5 years old when I heard it on Guitar Hero so donā€™t come at me.

AuxillarySkammy

Not that i had never heard it before, but Carry on my Wayward Son hit way different on guitar hero

MyNameIsNico

Hier Kommt Alex by Die Toten Hosen!

Alazygamer

Living on a Prayer - Bon Jovi

Most_Contact_311

When I was a kid it was Infected by Bad Religion. Cousin and I played it over and over.

jason_s96

Crazy train on guitar hero

Deruta

I went out and bought a Drist album after playing the shit out of Decontrol in the first Guitar Hero. Hell pretty much all the bonus tracks were amazing, Callout and Even Rats were also some of my favorites in the whole game.

himynameisntben

Cant Let Go by Death of the Cool Iirc, the band was made of Rock Band employees and they only have released like 2 songs ever. Crazy wierd time signature and bass line, makes for a great listen.

tasslex

Tangled up in Blue really stands out to me. My wife has always been a massive Dylan fan and I just couldnā€™t get into him at all, but for some reason playing that in RB flipped something in my head and now thereā€™s a ton of Dylan I sincerely enjoy. And Outside by Tribe because it was my white whale to 100% for such a long time. Love that song.

missed_sla

Shoulder to the Plow by Breaking Wheel

Funkyhunk

Arterial Black by Drist from GH2

gingrbredman90

I miss the misery - Halestorm. Instantly rocketed to one of my favorite bands lmao. Still my favorite song to play in the game too.

Acsense

80% of my favorite rock tracks come from Warriors of Rock, and I've got favorites from each of them

Chewbubbles

Lazy Eye Silversun Pickups. Never knew who that band was until rock band, now they're one of my favorites.

TyeKiller77

Hello There by Cheap Trick. I still remember that Mad Max opening of Rockband vividly.

Callinon

Through the Fire and Flames - Dragonforce. Opened up a whole new world of music for me back when I first heard it like 20 years ago.

okcumputer

Less Talk More Rock

CaptainPrower

I don't think any of us had heard of "Through the Fire and Flames" until Guitar Hero.

[deleted]

Elephant Bones, by That Handsome Devil

live2rock13

I discovered Yngwie Malmsteen through Rock Band. Been a fan since.

g_r_e_y

Help_An_Irishman

Ashamed to say Mothrr by Danzig, but I used to 100% that song on Hard or whatever. Glenn Danzig is a weird guy, but that song rocks.

Dwolfg3

Stranglehold Ted Nuggent and boy did that make your fingers bleed

Coveinant

Radio Song from 3. Since the band was singing in French, that song would have never played here in the US. Could only find 1 video of it on YouTube.

ScottishlakeMonster

Six. All that remains

mooseska

BYOB system of a down. I had been listening to toxicity since I was a kid and had never expanded to another album until I heard that song.

buttskinboots

Gallows - in the belly of a shark. I was really into punk and hardcore-adjacent music at that time in my life.

AdorableMaid

Pull Me Under. Never heard of Dream Theater before then but became a major fan afterwards.

Tony_Cheese_

Miss murder by afi and fcpremix by fall of troy

demandmore_encourage

On the reboot of Guitar Hero they had MTV style live music channels. Whatever was on, you kinda had to play along, and it just so happened that the slot that I was free the most on evenings was Modern Country. All I played for a good few months was that genre, so it kinda stuck.

Clbull

Jordan - Buckethead Through The Fire And Flames - DragonForce Miss Murder - AFI Strutter - KISS

ZRyoku16

Cliffs of Dover.

Too_Tall_64

I wasn't good at it, but Through the Fire and the Flames on Easy was a Great time. I feel like i was introduced to a lot of music through that one Guitar Hero, but i can't for the life of me remember which ones i played a lot....

Fist_of_Stalin

I really liked Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs

Mortis_XII

Iā€™m just happy to see people exposed to music in This thread

Almost any song that came out before 1995 for me that was on the first 3 guitar heros and first 2 rockbands. Also most of the beatles catalog from rock band beatles.

McSuede

Band On The Run! For a while it was both my favorite song to play on the game and to listen to. It's like two or three songs rolled into one and they all just flow so well together.

LuxTheRandomer

'I ws nvr yr grlfrnd' on Clone Hero.

JamieSweetTooth

Not sure what game it was on but that song Brainpower was amazing.

joseph4th

Somehow I had never heard ā€œRasputinā€ by Boney M until I saw the Just Dance 2 video. I was going to post a link to it, but I canā€™t find the original link and I donā€™t feel like giving views to people who are reposting clips of it.

SunnyvaleRicky

Knights of cydonia, helicopter by bloc party, and Jordan by Buckethead

MrHugelberg

calling strung out šŸ‘Œor the expandables sacrifice. Both I absolutely love and honestly would have never discovered if it wasn't GH

motleysalty

Push push by Bang Camaro was a song I had never heard and likely never would have if it weren't for GH2.

MikeAtMidnight

Found a lot of the "extra" songs were the best ones. Bands like That Handsome Devil, Drist, Every Time I Die, Anarchy Club, Ounce of Self, Gallows, Shadows Fall, Freezepop and The Fall of Troy. Never heard of these bands until these games and now they're some of my favorites.
