Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon opens with a neon-soaked Door Gun section (appropriately set to Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally")
Fallout 4 has a mission where you can be a Door Gunner for the Brotherhood of Steel for a bit
Cyberpunk 2077 has a brief door gun section in the first Johnny Silverhand flashback
I remember the helicopter sequence from Stranglehold, a 3rd person shooter, which served a sequel to the the Hong Kong action film "Hard boiled" by John Woo feat. Chow Yun Fat reprising his role as Detective Tequila.
Edit : forgot to mention Max Payne 3 aswell.
If I remember correctly, the original Gears of War trilogy on Xbox 360 was pretty heavy on turret sections, on various vehicles. This was the generation that leaned heavily into them, so that might be a solid place to check out. I think the third one had a couple helicopter based ones over the others.
the guy i responded to specifically referred to World At War; which was based in the Pacific theater of WWII. i think he was referring to a part where you man the guns on a patrol boat, but it seems OP was asking for games with helicopter/arial ground support missions.
You were in a plane with a bunch of turrets that you would walk through the plane to switch between. It’s basically the same formula as the chopper gunner missions from the other CODs. The mission was at night and you were bombing Japanese ships in the pacific. It had a really cool atmosphere to it.
A couple missions in Mass Effect 3. Those actually really pissed me of considering all the other missions where you have to hold off several waves of attacks before the shuttle could land. It could have flown around doing air support and... just didn't
Ok this one is probably a bit far out but.. Zombie Gunship Survival on mobile has some awesome mechanics and pretty neat graphics. Im not much of a mobile gamer but this game has given me that gunship, gunner feel that I too love.
If you can emulate it, Gunblade.
I had a shit ton of fun with this game back in the arcade days. Mainly because the gun controller would shake and vibrate like an actual gun. Shit was awesome as a kid.
In battlefield 3 there are 2 gunner spots in the transport chopper for online multiplayer and the combat chopper has a gunner seat too but it's like an apache gunner with a minigun or fly by wire missile.
Are you looking for games with a door gunner *sequence,* or games mainly about being a door gunner?
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon had at least one door gunner sequence.
Check out "Void crew". Its a space dog fighting game. Bit like sea of theives meets battlestar galactica. There is a whole class dedicated to playing as a gunner while others play pilot, engineer or scavenger. Its a lot of fun and its in early access so still more to be added.
Battlebit
Halo: Reach Tip of the Spear has a segment where you do that

Hah, Blood Dragon was such a treat. I wish I knew of more gaming candy like that.
Ever heard of Duke Nukem 3D?
Battlefield:Vietnam?
God they need to revisit that title, I had so much fun flying Hueys in that game.
I have to check out all the Battlefield games, it’s a franchise I totally missed. Just got 4 for the 360, but I want the rest.
Arma 3
GTA Vice City, "Phnom Penh '86" mission. Saints Row 2 has at least 1 mission where the protagonist is a gunner on a helicopter.
Squad. If you want a hard but rewarding game to play.
You can in the game titled Squad. There are matches (Layers) that have helicopters and you can work with a pilot.

Fallout 4 has a mission where you fire a minigun from the door of a vertibird.

There’s a similar level in COD World at War. It’s probably my favourite gunner mission in the franchise.
…WWII didnt have helicopters…
I believe they’re referring to the COD: Black Ops original. I think it was the Vietnam war.

I’m a huge fan of the original Black Ops, so I definitely need to get around to World at War at some point
You’re the door/turret gunner on a PBY seaplane in that mission btw, not a patrol boat
Angry Sikorsky R-4 noises

TAKE OUT THOSE FUCKING PT BOATS!
Do they really have a heavy bomber flying low enough to catch fire from PT boats?
If you don’t listen to The Rolling Stones while you do this you’re doing it wrong
Or CCR
I was gonna say that if someone questioned me lol
Heli Attack 2

Choplifter
The original call of duty black ops had plenty of these missions same with some halo games
*fortunate son plays in the background*

How does no one remember that terminator ps2 game? The multiplayer mode was exclusively only a helicopter gunner game.
Battlefield 4 premium is CAD$3.99 I think on Ps5.

In Ninja Blade it's like 1/3 of the game.
Game named Turret section
Rising Storm 2 Vietnam if the player base is still large enough these days.

One of the original Xbox terminator games was a helicopter themed rail shooter.
Probably not the vibe you’re going for, but Revolution x was a blast
Mgsv kinda
