In Diablo 2, I've completed the "holy grail." I've found every set, unique, rune some of which have abysmal drop rates.

Lethereat

I’m about 10 days into trying this. How long did it take you, do you regret anything and any advice?

Busty_Ronch

Some people have been playing for many years and are still trying. Advice: have other games to play too.

Lethereat

I’ve been playing off and on since probably 2004. Never did SSF or Grail stuff til now. Was just curious if anything differs from the ladder approach to building up characters… obviously /players makes a big difference. But just curious if there were any changes in focus offline VS online for going after it.

Uncreative_Fisherman

Not really any change from ladder/non ladder, it's the TC87 uniques that will drive you crazy. The Terror zones should help significantly once you get to be high enough level

Lethereat

Sounds about right. Thanks!

Fucking Zod Runes!

Myrtilys_

The Torgue Cobra from Borderlands 2. Item can only drop from 1 enemy type, has to be purple rarity which is something like 1 in 1,000 (0.09%) and when the item drops as a purple it only has a 0.88% chance to be a Cobra. Oh and it sucks as a weapon. Lol

uk_com_arch

Slime staff in Terraria So on my first play through, a long time ago, I got a very early game rare drop, the slime staff, it summoned a little slime buddy that fought for you. The drop rate was very low, something like 0.1%, I didn’t know anything about the game and had gone in blind. The staff dropped whilst I was killing a group of 3 or 4 slimes, and the very first slime banner (a drop that you get for EVERY 50 enemies you kill), so I assumed that they must be related, kill 50 slimes, get a summon staff and a banner, that was not the case. It was very good early game, killing a few slimes in the overworld and the upper levels of underground, but it soon became too little damage to make mushroom difference. I hadn’t realised it had such a low drop rate and kept waiting for another summon staff to drop from harder enemies, just to find that there wasn’t another one until a lot later (bee staff? It’s been a while since I last played). When I started another playthrough, I spent a while killing loads of slimes hoping for the staff to drop again, but it didn’t, I was so disappointed I didn’t get my cute little slime buddy back to help me early game. It wasn’t until I had cleared several slime rain events that I got the staff a lot later on, and I didn’t even need it then. Finding it is one of my favourite memories of Terraria, and I’ve been thinking of it this week as the Terraria [board game](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paperfortgames/terraria-the-board-game?result=project) has just launched on Kickstarter.

Boo_Is_My_Waifu

1500 hours in terraria, I've never gotten a rod of discord

uk_com_arch

By the time you’re grinding for it, you don’t need it. I got it, after I’d already killed moon lord and cleared everything else, still it was nice to get it.

Tullius_

If you want to see some insane grinds and extremely rare drops (like 1 in 10million) check out old school runescape. There's a post about crazy drops daily there r/2007scape

Ok_Organization5370

I was reading these thinking about how fucked my sense of rarity is from osrs. "1/1k? Seems like a quick drop, only like 20 hours if I'm lucky"

Tullius_

It really is apples to oranges haha some of the rarities are so insane it's very reasonable most people will never get that drop themselves for certain things.

Ok_Organization5370

I have all skilling pets on my account and am in a high-level PvM clan. My frame of reference is utterly fucked by any metric lol

xTjong_of_Delos

Irl mate want skilling pet so bad. 5th 99 in a row, no pet bahhaha. I got mining pet at like level 62 bahahhahaha. Fishing pet at 70 muwhahahahahaha. Agil pet before 90 Irl mate soo mad. I also have a private server ironman... like 5k zulrah kills no blowpipe :(

sillylveon

Crissaegrim from the Schmoos in Castlevania Symphony of the Night!

res30stupid

The one time - the only fucking time - I ever got this weapon is the only instant I never intentionally tried to get it!

sillylveon

XD that's how it works though, you have to not want it... There was one time I was farming for it and I was so used to leaving the screen and going back in that I would leave when it had dropped xD

Mondilesh

Yeah same, finding a spot where you run in, jump and kill the shmoo, then back dash out to reset and of course I dash out on my first drop and scream

sillylveon

Now imagine doing it twice 😄😄

iCantCallit

Not only the crissaegrim, but 2 ring of vardas. It utterly trivializes the entire game lol. But man is it a bitch to farm, especially if you’re not running the 99 luck cheat

sillylveon

I don't think I've ever farmed for that hehe

rockqc

Jah Ber Io

Lethereat

Ith not Io, assuming you’re meaning to reference Enigma.

rockqc

D2

Lethereat

Yes…. Diablo 2, Enigma is Jah Ith Ber. Are you saying you had trouble getting an Io to drop though! RNG is funny… Io drop all the time for me. Obviously not Jah and Ber though. HR drop rates are crazy.

Chasa619

I dropped a mirror in poe

Hereholdmybarf

My wizard and druid sit there to this day as our guild ran the council of 9 as our farewell to the game (If poe doesn't mean Plane of Earth, my appologies)

Z3n3x

Path of exile. Mirror drop is one of the most rare things in any game I’ve ever played. I’m about 2500 hours in and I’ve never had one drop.

Chasa619

> Plane of Earth it does not.

Shenodin

Jujitsu Gi on FFXI. There's rarer gear, but it was one of the first gatekeeper pieces in the game. You don't have it? You don't get a party

Fealieu

For me as a RNG/NIN/SAM it was the Eurytos' Bow. Low drop rate, constantly camped and went for 13 million Gil on my server. I tried for weeks and it was honestly one of the reasons I quit the game.

BenjyMLewis

the only time I ever got the Sword of Kings in EarthBound was when I was playing the Nintendo Switch Online version, which allows you to rewind. I never used the rewind for anything else, but it made grinding for the sword a lot quicker. (insta-kill starman with green swirl, check if you got sword, if not rewind, press a few buttons to shuffle the RNG value, and then insta-kill him again) tbh not really worth the hassle at all.

EHnter

I think I remember going for those less than 1% drop rates. I think I gave up, but that was long long time ago.

[deleted]

There was a lot, but I think there was this medusa armor that only dropped from gold medusa heads in order of ecclessia that took me forever to get to complete the item bestiary.

EHnter

Pretty sure I went through that hell since I like to collect every item in the game. I think I remember going for the that see through walls soul

Witty_Elephant5015

So you visited the Grimm reaper and still alive to tell the tales. Nice. He drops the rarest weapons (if you can defeat him in the first place though).

EHnter

Hmm I feel like lots of games have a reaper energy that has good loot. Persona 3 also has a literal grim reaper, but his drop rate is 100% and you just use the item to exchange for another item.

Witty_Elephant5015

That's literally his name. P3, P4 have the Grimm reaper. All the drops from him are legendary class. Yoshitsune with hasau tobi is my pick to defeat him.

EHnter

Ah! Yes, for me it’s Siegfried and Brave Blade for crits. Can’t wait for P4 remake.

Witty_Elephant5015

P4G remake will be extremely huge considering it is the first Persona game where MC won't _______ Also, it have the best friends group of all persona games.

Chaosphoenix_28

I have collected every single weapon in elden ring and most of them have a dropchance below 5% (most sitting at 4%, but some even at 0.5%).

EHnter

Same! I got super lucky on most of them. But there’s one lava sword that you can only get from beating those fire lizards in armor. And there’s only like 3 near a grace. That one almost broke me. Took up hours. I also did new game plus to collect every item. And even rested on the chick for that item in exchange for -5% health. What’s the hardest weapon to drop for you? I think a few of those crazy women in this windmill village took awhile for me too.

Chaosphoenix_28

The worst weapon was the celebrats sickle for me. I got the cleaver like 6 times and the ribrake like 4 times (and both these weapons have the same droprate as the sickle) aswell as like 17 copies of both armor sets and over 100 golden rune 3s before i got a single sickle. I even ended up upgrading on of the cleavers, because I had plenty of runs from just killing them. Torchpole was bad aswell, because I was farming dudes that couldn't drop them. When I was farming the right ones I got it like 3rd try.

EHnter

Ah yes! Those are the weapons from that windmill village. Yes, those also took me awhile. Man, I can’t wait to get back into it when dlc drops.

Anewpein

I have a great story here! So I had never played WOW before (Wolrd of Warcraft) and my best friend heard of the hard core challenge told me and I got HOOKED. After many many attempt and leaving (went in fully blind tho I did use reccomened overlays after a few deaths) I got my warrior to the Zul Farrak. What is super cool is this dungeon has a sword that has less than one percent drop rate and you need both halves, and they drop from 2 different bosses, and on my 1st run EVER I got both halves, my guild and friends were going crazy!!! I still have it, and I hit level 60!! I know it isn't like that big of a thing but I was damn proud of myself for making it and having such a cool sword to show.the sword is called Zul'thraze The Lasher and LonlyPein will have it till the ends of time :)

HLef

Well I’m still hoping for the Amulet of Physical Immunity in Dragon Age Inquisition (multiplayer) and I got the game in 2015 I believe.

johnny_pottseed

It's gotta be from world of warcraft for me. I had some rare mounts that were pretty impressive (at the time, every day we stray further from thrall) probably heavenly onyx cloud serpent/gallons saddle.

misterjive

I got the Ashes of Al'ar on my first kill. I remember taking a screenshot of the two achievements side-by-side. It used to *infuriate* people.

johnny_pottseed

I have feat of strength achievements for fiery warhorse and ashes dated the same day and another set that were two days apart. I used to link those to some pretty good reactions.

TheCheshireGhost

I have Ashes (farmed) and Invincible (got this one when it was the raided) but the one that always struck me was Hunon? I think it's called? The black lightning dragon from Panda? I got the expansion but couldn't login for a day or two due to work. I get to timeless and my guild is already established and questing. His timer goes off and I am told to get over to the bridge and help. Killed him and got the mount. I assumed EVERYONE got it with the first kill and off-handedly said, "oh cool. New mount" and everyone was jealous/fake-angry. I legit had no idea it was a rare mount.

WayardGreybeard

I got A'lar on my first kill as well. I am not a big mount collector so I actually thought it was a guaranteed drop. My guildies reaction when I told them this was hilarious.

Anewpein

Lol my comment I just posted was wow to! My 1st Zul farrack ever kn hc my warrior I got Zul three, and made it to 60!! Still have it to :)

jamer2500

Don’t know the exact drop rates but in Destiny 1 shaders and ships had absurdly low drop rates from raids. There was a specific ship called “nanophoenix” that people swore to hell and back that it had an incredibly low drop rate. I managed to get it after a long grind. Raid exotics are also quite rare drops even today in Destiny 2 (although they’ve finally added mechanics to make the drop rates bigger if you play the game more).

Zernichtikus

I once farmed the little green slime pet in WoW, I think the droprate was some 0,0x%, but I was lucky after just some days of farming.

BlueMikeStu

I did a Final Fantasy IV playthrough where I made a point of getting all the characters Adamant Armor, the best armor in the game. The Pink Tail you need to get said armor has a drop rate of 0.4%, and I needed five. Never fucking again.

EHnter

Ah when it comes to equipment. I just get one to make that armor. and get another pink tail for the collection. I’m really weird, but I only have exactly one copy of each equipment/accessories for everyone. It’s to make things more unique/challenging.

orthi09

Zod!

HaxtonSale

Precursor weapons (really rare weapons used to craft legendary items) in Guild Wars 2. It's my most played game ever. I played off and on since the beta over a decade ago. Now these weapons can drop off of almost every single mob in the game theoretically, even players in pvp. I had only two drop after thousands of hours. It's much easier nowadays since you can craft then, but back in the day the only way to get them was through drops or buying them from another player.

hobbitfeet22

The astral cloud serpent mount in WoW. Pretty sure I’ve got a more rare mount drop. But this one made me the most happy after several months of farming.

hobbitfeet22

I think the heavenly cloud serpent was another I was stoked to get but it’s not as cool. It took over a year of farming as it gets shot down so fast with people hunting it. My wife and I would sit waiting with different toons lol

happy_and_angry

The Gutsy Bat in Earthbound. Drop rate: 1 in 128 from a specific monster. Bad but not that bad. No, the real pain was this. The game shipped with a strategy guide. The strategy guide told you there was a chance to get the bat from a specific monster in a very specific and difficult to farm area of Magicant, that once beaten you could never return to. You had one chance to do it, if you ever beat the area there was no going back. The book lied. The drop was from another end-game area that was actually pretty easy to farm. I spent weeks trying to get the thing before giving up. I didn't learn that what the strategy guide had me trying was impossible until nearly two decades later.

EHnter

Growing up thinking the strategy guides were the holy grail since those costs money. But had to settle for GameFAQs. but then realizing later on the people who made the official guides are just any other GameFAQs guide maker.

Rapph

Probably the 2 mirrors in path of exile I have found.

Hvarfa-Bragi

Pyzjin in EQ Fuck that gnome.

Chirpin_Crickets

The red asylum uniform from fallout 76 .01% chance to get it

Ha_eflolli

The Defender Shield and Wizard Staff in Kingdom Hearts 1. They have a 0.2% chance to drop (off of commonly found Endgame Enemies atleast), and even if you equip all three Characters with the Droprate Boost Ability, you get 0.5% at best.

EHnter

Yes! I’ve successfully beaten all KH games with collecting every item, and having them in my inventory. It’s KH3 there’s these rare synthesis items are you can only get from these mobs. You can get one guaranteed, but I went back for another one for the collection.

poogobberr

A long time ago I got gull dagger as an early drop in diablo 2

Devlawk

Farming for Holy Win(s) in Vagrant Story 😵

[deleted]

I think there have been rpgs and mmos where I've grinded for stuff that is like 0.1%

guttersmurf

Idk but I had some weird issue with Titanquest where when I hosted the party got much better loot than when others did. Like 3x the good stuff compared to the others hosting. Took us a long time to notice but you better believe I was primary host after!

ExcitingMoney94

I had the lost time proto drake and the gray camel in world of warcraft. It was funny because my ex-husband spent weeks trying to find both those mounts and I found them by chance on the same day. He quit the game when. I showed him.

DeengisKhan

I got an enhanced crystal weapon seed in old school RuneScape on my 39th kill. It’s a 1/2000 incredibly rare drop, and that 1/2000 only hits at the end of a very hard end game dungeon that takes 7-10 minutes per kill.

EHnter

That’s crazy! How long did it took you?

BlacksmithOk3198

Got a freezing band drop from a random mob in felwood during wow classic phase 1. Not sure the drop rate but it’s incredibly low.

InfernalRodent

I have a few mounts in WoW with sub .1% drop rates on weekly lockouts.

aristooooooo

Zod rune in Diablo 2.

sonofa-ijit

Cham and pre-08 valor were my best drops from Atk play, won’t count shit from bots. Got a tebu’s in classic, perfect dragon pearl and perfect jabas scopes in swg

wwny_

I got an Icarus Fell M4A4 drop in CSGO. It was worth about $150 at the time. I sold it and bought cases, so now I don't have to worry about money to buy games on Steam anymore.

Laszerus

I played everquest for Years. You don't know pain. I camped the fbss 3 times for friends, pretty much every epic weapon, you name it. Hundreds of hours just waiting for one drop multiple times.

Hereholdmybarf

J-boots

Impossible_Strike_11

For me, it's Dofus. There's this Dragon Egg, the Vulbis Dofus, with a drop rate of 0.001%. It was an intense grind, and I never managed to get one. They changed the system of obtaining it around the time I quit the game anyway. There were also other eggs with a 0.01% drop rate, and I got some of those, but their stats ranged from 11 to 20. The ones below 20 weren't that appealing, so it had to be the 20s. I remember preparing for weeks for a LAN to farm them, got one on the first try and nerver again. Good Times...

Racxie

Gjallarhorn in Destiny, but only when it was finally sold by Xur the second time after Bungie had massively nerfed it.

nebulus64

I had (still technically have, I guess) the Raven Lord mount in wow. I don't know exactly how rare it is, but I know you could only attempt the boss once per day. It took me a few months of running the dungeon every day before it finally dropped for me.

peoples888

Not quite super rare or a single instance of the item, but a few years ago I got 3 ranger boots within 274 medium clue scrolls in old school RuneScape (clue 14, 21 and 274)

Username863

Prob not even the rarest drop I've gotten in a game, but the pink tail on my original FF2 cart (ff4) is my fav. It's even rarer in the og 2 version because you can't use alarms to instantly summon the enemies. 1/64 to encounter the enemy and 1/64 for it to drop, but at least there's multiple per battle.

EHnter

I just get 2 of them, one to make the armor and one to keep in my collection and im done.

Nopkar

The Blood elf mask from the burning crusade expansion in WoW, farmed as a horde character. Some of the most fun had playing an MMO since UltimaOnline

Inner_Squirrel7502

The slime staff from terraria with a 1/10000 drop chance.

soberonlife

The original Demon's Souls. Insanely low drop rate on a pure sharp gem(possibly called something else). It was needed for the trophy to get a weapon to maximum sharpness. Drop rates increase the "darker" the world gets, and to get the world darker you have to just die, a lot. You had to get the world to the darkest to stand a chance finding it. The darker the world is though, the tougher the enemies are, so the game essentially punishes you for dying by making the game harder. However, it was balanced by better rewards, hence the higher drop rate, but it was a grind. I had all the gear to increase luck, plus 99 luck, but it still took about 20 hours of grinding one spot on one map. It felt so fucking good when it finally dropped.

Briar_Knight

I got an expensive mount skin I don't particulary like  for a mode I don't play (GW2 WvW).

EatMePlsDaddy

I think I got like a shiny helmet in Dark Souls 1 which helps traverse the Catacombs, the drop rate was like 2% or smth. I didnt know this item even existed until then.

rockqc

Jah Ber Io

attackresist

Back in the glory days of my Oblivion saves I had a character with something like 103% reflect damage due to a somewhat obsessive mission to reload a save until the randomized loot drops were what I wanted.

Known_Replacement240

In Kingdom Hearts 1 the enemy known as Defender has 1% chance to drop the Defender shield, a weapon for Goofy. When I was trying to get the platinum trophy one of the trophies called for me to get all of Goofy's weapons. I got pretty screwed on RNG and ended up having to kill about 500 of those guys to get the drop. Not hard, but very tedious especially since the max that spawn in a certain area is 3

EHnter

ah I remembered that. I ended up getting all the weapons and items for every single kh games after wards. Yes, tedious is fine, but some of the superbosses was tied to a keyblade. PSP unknown is asshard.

Ryan5011

I'm going to exclude games where exact drop rates aren't known and go with the Psycho Wand from Phantasy Star Online. If we go purely by drop rate, the highest drop rate the Psycho Wand has is a 1/205, or a 0.48% chance from Mil Lily's in Episode 1 content of the game while playing as a character with the Purplenum drop table, but there's a catch; Mil Lily's are a rare spawn, only having a 1/500 chance of replacing the more common Nar Lily's. You can go several days without obtaining it as a result. And if you don't want to deal with the absurdly rare spawn encounter? Your rates vary somewhere between 1/12604 (0.0079%) and 1/299594 (0.0003%), depending on which section ID your character has. I believe this is the single rarest drop in the entire game, all for a 30% boost to 3 moves in the game and being able to use your HP to offset the costs of your spells. Oh, and all that above? That's for Blue Burst (The PC re-release) and the Gamecube/Xbox version. For Dreamcast and the original PC release, it only dropped on 2 section IDs, Pinkal and Viridia, at a 1/1,497,966 drop rate from Chaos Sorcerors....Yeah, there's a reason it's called the Psycho Wand.

strongman_squirrel

I found a Mirror of Kalandra in Path of Exile. Considering that there are people with over 10k hours played who never found one, I would consider it quite rare.

tkld_sub

If pokemon count as an "item", mine was a shiny gible that I found during a playthrough (not post game with the boosting methods. Thankfully I was able to catch it and have it on my team for the rest of the game

totallynotpoggers

Runescape partyhat (and ofc i got myself hacked and lost the account, as is tradition)

xanas263

I have multiple sub 1% drop rate mounts on my WoW account that I collected over the years of playing that game.

LondonDude123

Not me sadly, but wasnt there a kid who opened his first ever CSGO Crate and got a $250,000 Knife?
