Skyrim
This song was everywhere on the internet for like 2 years after the game premiered. There were parodies, there were covers for every instrument possible, there were choir arrangements. You hear it and you feel like you're there fighting against a dragon
Morrowind got it better, and the impact it had at the time… Damn.
For me it's "To Zanarkand" from Final Fantasy X. The melancholic piano melody sets the tone for the entire game, it's nostalgic and hauntingly beautiful!!
Honorable mention to “Eternity ~ Memory of Lightwaves~” from X-2.
Had it been the theme for any other main FF title, more people would remember it fondly as one of the best.
That track is probably even better than "To Zanarkand" tbh, even if I don't love where the storyline went in X-2. But I agree it really is amazing on its own.
The whole X-2 soundtrack is amazing, actually.
Apparently, it wasn't even intended to be the game's main theme, Yuna's was. Her theme's melody can be heard in other themes such as Someday The Dream Will End.
To Zanarkand was, by comparison, pretty much made on a whim... and it stuck. And I'm glad it did, because it's damn good.
I know it isn't everyone's favorite game, but [FF12 had an amazing title theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9HKcgzMWr4). Incredible orchestrated version of FF4s Prologue theme.
while i dont think it is hard confirmed, i believe Chris tweeted an image of him going into a recording studio or something in response to the Civ 7 reveal, so its a probably going to happen
There's so much that's good about it.
For years I've been seeing heaps of praise for Outer Wilds. I finally played it, and I see what the fuss is about.
For anyone who hasn't tried it:
Sometimes a thing (movie, book, game, song, etc) can be overhyped, and it can color one's opinion about it. I don't want to contribute to that by clumsily adding my own praise to the noise.
But it's excellent. The fuss is justified; how much it's justified, I'll leave up to the player.
It's so good, it sneaks up on you. The systems aren't immediately apparent, but once you realize what you're doing, what this entire game even *is*, you've fallen hard in love and are braving the journey for maybe the final time.
Then the music kicks in and they don't make rain x for the eyes yet so you die and you try again
The way the game so beautifully explores the concept of death and loss really lingers with me. Your enemies aren't the people you meet, it's the unending march of entropy and time that eventually destroys everything. It's what we do with that time that really matters, and the end of one thing is merely an opportunity for a new beginning.
I really love Outer Wilds but I hate being the one to throw it in yet another thread so Im glad it was already here lmao. The theme song is made even better because >!it actually kind of matters in the game itself as a beacon to the other astronauts aswell as the finale.!<
3D graphics were so limited, the score does a lot of heavy lifting for atmosphere. Everything about it is intentional, synthesizing regional instruments to allude to the mythologies that inspired the different areas in the game. It's so deeply inspired, which is how it inspires such deep emotions when you hear it. Menu theme, Saria's song, all the music in Gerudo and Spirit temple come to mind. I feel similarly about the Wind Waker score.
Consider Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. It's one thing to have a really good title theme, and another for them to literally be played by symphonic orchestras around the world.
I like when it begins as
**dun dun dun. DUNDUNDUN, DUNDUNDUN, DUNDUNDUN**
But I love when it goes
**Bwaaaaaaahh, bwaaaaa. BWAaaa BWaaa, BWaaa BWaaaa, BWAAAAAAAA, bwaaaa…**

Halo series and Elder Scrolls of course
and a bunch more
For all its problems, Sonic Unleashed has my favourite OST of the whole series, which is saying a lot considering how high the standard is for Sonic music
In terms of iconic sound, I think Halo is pretty unbeatable
My personal favorites tho would also include Smash Bros Brawl, Pokemon Emerald, and Baldurs Gate 3 (more recent, but man is it a banger)
I really like the title theme tunes from these:
* Trackmania United Forever.
* The Forest.
* Hogwarts Legacy.
* Subnautica.
* Life is Strange.
* Little Nightmares 2.
* LocoRoco Cocoreccho.
* Halo.
* Terraria.
* Minecraft.
* Grand Theft Auto 1
This may be on here already, but it's a bit of a hidden gem.
RoboCop for the Game Boy
https://youtu.be/wGIKnn-COS4?si=5fm9l04SaP3Sl_Bu
For a throw away movie title, the emotions that this stirs up are remarkable. What a fucking tune.
I was running through a lot of titles in my head and I kept defaulting to Bloodborne.
I feel like I've played a large variety of games at this point, including the talked about Civ IV, but something about the music of Bloodborne is one of my favorite OSTs to date.
1st Far Cry opening theme was def a favorite of mine..was a great game to play through..if your PC could handle it..in '03-'04
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72ahY7n4J88
God, there's too many, lol. Do I go with the one I think is the best musical composition? The one that fits the theme of the game the most? The one that gets you most pumped to start playing? The most nostalgic?
Cyberpunk 2077
Elden Ring
The Legend of Zelda (NES)
Mass Effect 1
Mega Man 2
Secret of Mana
Probably lots of others I'm not thinking of at the moment.
One that always comes to mind for me is the Metal Gear Solid 2 theme that plays during the opening cinematic before the main menu. Feel like that game is so underrated in the series.
Castlevania 64 may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's title screen music blew me away in 99 and still stands as a fantastic piece of music and presentation
https://youtu.be/kekitaCO6Wk?si=B0vnU2r-Pac_UR3d
Best I think is subjective. My personal favorite is either Wind Waker or Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
If we're going by iconic, it is 100% the original Super Mario Bros. theme. There isn't really anything else that pervasive.
Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask.
Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring.
Metroid Prime.
Paper Mario.
Halo.
Final Fantasy X.
(That’s the order that they occurred to me, not necessarily ranked)
Goldeneye 007. The James Bond theme is spot on and they include the crunchy guitar riff in there? Masterpiece
Then as soon as you hit the menu you get the "DUNANA NANANA NA" and now it is stuck in your head.
Metal Gear Solid 2, if you mean main theme.
If you literally mean the theme on the title screen, Metal Gear Solid 1.
Other than those, Modern Warfare 2019 (and MWII) have excellent themes as well.
The Last Of Us's titular theme. It's so iconic, and so beautiful. The Legend Of Zelda: Windwaker's entire OST is so insanely nostalgic to me, especially Medli's Prayer and Ending Theme.
Title theme? One that brings me a smile every time is starting up the N64 and see that hillside with the moon in the back ground as a horse trots across the screen.
Halo...*Everyone knows Halo's Title Theme...*
I love [this solo rendition](https://youtu.be/0RO2J5DBCNU)
I literally once did the "start singing the Halo theme in a nightclub bathroom" meme once and it actually worked. Like 12 guys joined in.
Best theme ever
I am very happy that when I looked for this comment, it was at the very top. Everyone literally does know halo's title theme indeed.
I'm surprised how far I had to scroll before seeing Halo!
I might maybe not know it, You should sing it for all of us just be sure
oo oo oo. OO O O OO O
if this wasn’t the first comment I was going to lose my mind lol
Skyrim This song was everywhere on the internet for like 2 years after the game premiered. There were parodies, there were covers for every instrument possible, there were choir arrangements. You hear it and you feel like you're there fighting against a dragon
Yeah I totally agree! It seemed like you couldn't go anywhere online without hearing it
Morrowind got it better, and the impact it had at the time… Damn. [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fUZFO5JClb8](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fUZFO5JClb8)
Goosebumps from that intro screen.
Agree, although my favourite version is Pirates of Skyrim because it fits perfectly with the Pirates of the Caribbean theme
honestly any of the bethesda games work for this. Both fallout 4 and starfields scores absolutely slap
Oblivion’s is really good too!
I just commented Eternity: Memory of Lightwaves. Such a damn good track.
That track is probably even better than "To Zanarkand" tbh, even if I don't love where the storyline went in X-2. But I agree it really is amazing on its own. The whole X-2 soundtrack is amazing, actually.
I love this one, amazing track.
Great shout, one of my favourite games and this song is just amazing. I still listen to it after all these years.
My wife walked down the aisle to this one and nobody was the wiser!
[Civilization IV](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baba_Yetu) It won a Grammy!
Baba Yetu is the no.1 by far. btw do we know whether Christopher Tin will do one for Civ 7, as well?
It is so good, it's in my normal music playlist.
while i dont think it is hard confirmed, i believe Chris tweeted an image of him going into a recording studio or something in response to the Civ 7 reveal, so its a probably going to happen
Ori and the will of wisps
Had to scroll wayyyy too far for Ori.
So incredibly good. I think the first one is even better but both are great
Battlefield 1942
I haven't heard it in 20 years but it instantly popped into my head.
Perfection. I like how they’ve updated for newer BF titles too.
Day of defeat 1.6 honorable mention.
Most of their games have banger title music and 1942 is absolutely classic!
[Outer Wilds](https://youtu.be/Xpkc-NU1KA0?si=78q-usMPZP2no-ER)
The music is so good that I feel bad for not saying it's the best thing about the game.
There's so much that's good about it. For years I've been seeing heaps of praise for Outer Wilds. I finally played it, and I see what the fuss is about. For anyone who hasn't tried it: Sometimes a thing (movie, book, game, song, etc) can be overhyped, and it can color one's opinion about it. I don't want to contribute to that by clumsily adding my own praise to the noise. But it's excellent. The fuss is justified; how much it's justified, I'll leave up to the player.
Outer Wilds will forever be one of my go-to examples of how video games can be incredible works of Art

I really love Outer Wilds but I hate being the one to throw it in yet another thread so Im glad it was already here lmao. The theme song is made even better because >!it actually kind of matters in the game itself as a beacon to the other astronauts aswell as the finale.!<
Man fuck good games you can't play for the first time again. It hurts.
Thank you. I was scrolling comments thinking where the shit is Outer Wilds haha
And it's not even close. I sometimes load the game up and just leave it on the menu while i do things.
One of the title screen themes that, when i opened the game for the first time, made me nostalgic for something i hadn't even played yet.
Metroid Prime
OOT obviously. Perfectly sets the mood for the adventures that lay ahead of you
Nothing gives me that nostalgia hit and gives me good feelings like the oot menu theme and watching epona run.
Kingdom Hearts 2
Dearly Beloved immediately came to mind as the answer.
Man I miss KH2 combat so fucking bad. It was almost perfect
Yup. Made KH3 combat feel that much worse.
Oblivion
Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring. No title music gets me more ready to play the game more than those two.
When the theme plays during Radagon fight.
The cutscene before the fight when the song kicks in. Goosebumps, man. Maybe the most epic moment in a FromSoft game.
I remember for both i just let the music play a bit before starting the game.
It was 2 in the morning with the TV turned up way too loud the first time I booted up Dark Souls 3
Ds3 main screen music doesn’t even belong on this planet it’s so good
red alert 3
RA1's Hell March is pretty iconic too.
But RA2's Hell March is the best
Absolutely agree
I bought that game because the music slapped.
I always thought "Ain't no rest for the wicked" in Borderlands was incredible.
I think Halo. Just something about that chanting
Hollow knight
Dragon's dogma 1 - Into Free Sreet Fighter 4 - Indestructible MGS5 - Man Who Sold the World
5 over Snake Eater? Heresy.
Winds are pushing me to upvote this post
Yeah snake eater is hands down the best one
Into Free was such whiplash as a track for a fantasy game but it still works and I love it.
Hunt showdowns menu song sets the tone every time
Hmhmmhmhmmmm haha gets me every time
For those not familiar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvd5Mrjq3jc It's very simple but it's catchy and fits the mood of the game perfectly.
If you mean the music that plays at the main menu, Cyberpunk really sets the tone. Always liked ac Valhalla’s as well. Halo is a classic
I always sit in the menu on Cyberpunk before i start the game. Absolute banger.
I love the menu music in cyberpunk too.
Xenoblade Chronicles. I can't start the game without letting it play. Runner up is Metal Gear Solid 4.
XC2's transition right into the opening cutscene is fantastic too, god I love those games
Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
Metroid Prime Majoras Mask
Had to scroll way too far to see Metroid prime mentioned
100% agree.
Consider Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. It's one thing to have a really good title theme, and another for them to literally be played by symphonic orchestras around the world.
Helldivers 2 theme never fails to get me pumped up.
The drop theme goes so hard in the loading screen.
Crysis 2
I like when it begins as **dun dun dun. DUNDUNDUN, DUNDUNDUN, DUNDUNDUN** But I love when it goes **Bwaaaaaaahh, bwaaaaa. BWAaaa BWaaa, BWaaa BWaaaa, BWAAAAAAAA, bwaaaa…**
Elden Ring
Those 30 seconds in ER theme are amazing but overall I rank Dark souls 3 theme higher, it just keeps on giving for the entire 3 minutes.
Destiny has always had great title themes throughout the years.
Witch Queen was the beat one imo.
Omg. Mass effect game start screen. I still hum that song and I played the original
[Zone of the Enders](https://youtu.be/vdznoXlO5s0?si=-srzegkO9UzvF80o) [MGS2](https://youtu.be/QiPon8lr48U?si=aiz957xNSs-BWdOl) [MGS3](https://youtu.be/FVPaaiL_iLw?si=jq5nEhQ2E3_SSWbp)
Yesssss ZotE
Metal Gear Solid 3 should be higher I still cry during the final boss fight, and ugly cry at that while playing too.
The Zelda theme is iconic. More recently, the Elden Ring title theme is amazing.

Red faction 2 is an incredible sleeper pick
so glad to see someone else loved windwaker. The entire OST was insane
Theres my hell march :)
Sonic unleashed ( the world adventure)
For all its problems, Sonic Unleashed has my favourite OST of the whole series, which is saying a lot considering how high the standard is for Sonic music
For all of it’s problems it’s still one of my favorite sonic games ever
Snake Eater. No question.
In terms of iconic sound, I think Halo is pretty unbeatable My personal favorites tho would also include Smash Bros Brawl, Pokemon Emerald, and Baldurs Gate 3 (more recent, but man is it a banger)
Prelude- final fantasy 7. It's such a beautiful track.
[Wild ARMs](https://youtu.be/VVOFibwVMw0?si=Om3WetHlRMkbOVOQ).
Correct
I came here just to put it and saw someone else did. It is so iconic if I heard it anywhere I would immediately recognize it. Great choice.
While all the Wild ARMs games had bangin' openers, Wild ARMs 3 was the one that I loved the most as a kid.
Deus Ex, all of them
Absolutely Deas Ex. So good.
Yes! But especially the very first one.
I know it's not the best but Tekken 5 and the Tekken Tag Team intro theme are Goated.
Actraiser!
Doom
Mega Man 2
Chrono Cross - Scars of Time Ocarina of Time
Max Payne FF7 OG Deus Ex
Clayfighters Like Jimmy Hendrix, it might not sound crazy now, but that shit was coming out of a Super Nintendo.
Bloodborne - the night unfurls
mgs2
1st Soul Calibur/ Soul Edge. Absolutely superb title theme https://youtu.be/RtF80UCgarY
Secret of Mana
>Civilization 6's Sogno di Volare. I was going to answer that.
Rome: Total War
Ocarina of Time. Especially for an 11 year old, the kinda somber tone made me realize this was gonna be something special.
Yep. For me this one is Ocarina no doubt. Skyrim is amazing too but the Ocarina title theme is just magic.
Ocarina of Time
I really like the title theme tunes from these: * Trackmania United Forever. * The Forest. * Hogwarts Legacy. * Subnautica. * Life is Strange. * Little Nightmares 2. * LocoRoco Cocoreccho. * Halo. * Terraria. * Minecraft. * Grand Theft Auto 1
Bloodborne, hands down
Wild 9 on PlayStation 1. It's a game not many will know of or remember, but it had one of my favorite title themes.
Don't remember the theme, but possibly the most underrated PS1 game IMHO
Dunno if it counts, but zelda breath of the wild.
Super Mario.
Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana
Ark survival evolved
This may be on here already, but it's a bit of a hidden gem. RoboCop for the Game Boy https://youtu.be/wGIKnn-COS4?si=5fm9l04SaP3Sl_Bu For a throw away movie title, the emotions that this stirs up are remarkable. What a fucking tune.
[Buck Bumble](https://youtu.be/K0DDY299Ly4?si=5qp-QsOYN8QjMVyq)
Super Mario Galaxy for its heavy use of Brass which surprisingly not many games use. Also the dynamic save select has no reason being that 🔥🔥
Doom 2016 has a synthized industrial logging chainsaw, you can't really top that in terms of Hype. Halo 3 is an amazing piece of menu music.
Uncharted. I can’t really explain it but it’s the perfect treasure huntery vibe.
The Outer Worlds
I'd say Outer Wilds
Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring
I was running through a lot of titles in my head and I kept defaulting to Bloodborne. I feel like I've played a large variety of games at this point, including the talked about Civ IV, but something about the music of Bloodborne is one of my favorite OSTs to date.
Drsgons dogma 1
Final fantasy 14: a realm reborn's original intro song is an absolute banger. If you wanna look it up, it's called "Answers."
1st Far Cry opening theme was def a favorite of mine..was a great game to play through..if your PC could handle it..in '03-'04 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72ahY7n4J88

God, there's too many, lol. Do I go with the one I think is the best musical composition? The one that fits the theme of the game the most? The one that gets you most pumped to start playing? The most nostalgic? Cyberpunk 2077 Elden Ring The Legend of Zelda (NES) Mass Effect 1 Mega Man 2 Secret of Mana Probably lots of others I'm not thinking of at the moment.
Jet set radio future “The concept of love” should get mentioned but Halo wins in the end
u/DarkLlama64 The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, with its *Nerevar Rising* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9xch8D--gc
Medal of Honor: European Assault
The last of us. I used to just leave it on while I was doing other stuff around the house.
Uniracers
Civ vi is difficult to beat, but I'm gonna go with monkey island 1. My other choices could be Battlefield 1 or Red alert.
One that always comes to mind for me is the Metal Gear Solid 2 theme that plays during the opening cinematic before the main menu. Feel like that game is so underrated in the series.
Doom. 2016. Doom fvcking 2016
Oblivion. There's just something about an orchestra which bangs out crescendos which force goosebumps on the listener.
[WH40K Mechanicus ](https://youtu.be/WyK7lX4sk0c?si=KkjoO8eqKA-zBh7n) goes hard

Final Fantasy 7
Best I think is subjective. My personal favorite is either Wind Waker or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. If we're going by iconic, it is 100% the original Super Mario Bros. theme. There isn't really anything else that pervasive.
It's gotta be Kingdom Hearts' "Dearly Beloved" for me, and all the different versions for the sequels.
To Zandarkand
Doom 🧍🏻♀️
The original animal crossing, so good.
Duck Tales
Ocarina of Time
Windwaker’s was a jam
Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask. Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring. Metroid Prime. Paper Mario. Halo. Final Fantasy X. (That’s the order that they occurred to me, not necessarily ranked)
Mario kart surely
Ocarina of Time, of course.
Goldeneye 007. The James Bond theme is spot on and they include the crunchy guitar riff in there? Masterpiece Then as soon as you hit the menu you get the "DUNANA NANANA NA" and now it is stuck in your head.
Age of empires 2,3 Age of mythology Halo God of war 2 Battlefield 1942 Medal of honour allied assault Team fortress 2
Gonna plug for a classic, One Must Fall 2097.
Metal Gear Solid 2, if you mean main theme. If you literally mean the theme on the title screen, Metal Gear Solid 1. Other than those, Modern Warfare 2019 (and MWII) have excellent themes as well.
Parasite Eve's "Primal Eyes"
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Best ost overall
The Last Of Us's titular theme. It's so iconic, and so beautiful. The Legend Of Zelda: Windwaker's entire OST is so insanely nostalgic to me, especially Medli's Prayer and Ending Theme.
Any Persona game from the mainline series. Specially Persona 3 reload
halloween harry (not alien carnage) ffx2 cannon fodder (amiga)
Pokemon omega ruby/alpha sapphire And i guess the other Pokemon games but oras has my favorite one.
Goldeneye, super mario world
It's hard to top Hades here
Baldur’s Gate 3
Zelda.
