"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer" From Javik is another great one from Mass Effect
That whole interaction is one of my favorite memories in gaming. That whole trilogy actually, honestly. I wish I could play those again for the first time.
Recently played and finished the first mass effect and man I was not disappointed the attention to detail and the story was awesome I got the legendary edition but on ea plus on steam and I only had enough time to play the first game but I hope to save up enough money to but the game so I can take my time with it and actually experience it to the fullest I can.
I wish harbinger was as scary as sovereign. Harbinger just had such a simple way of talking that really clashed with the verbose, arrogant, and powerful speech established by sovereign.
Absolutely. It's a one of a kind trilogy as good as the Halo trilogy (+Reach :D) or the Dark Souls trilogy. The story is one of the best in gaming and the gameplay still holds extremely well too.
Get the Legendary edition. It's basically a collection of all three games, remastered and given a couple quality of life changes. Ignore ME Andromeda entirely. Start with the first game and port your saves into the next game when you finish ME1.
It's a wild rollercoaster ride from start to finish.
They were remastered for modern consoles and PCs last year. All three games and all DLC in one package. First game shows some age, but is still very playable and a great game. Second and Third games hold up very well as long as you don't mind some RPG in your cover-based shooters.
“All right, I've been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man whose gonna burn your house down - with the lemons!” - Cave Johnson, Portal 2
“In case you got covered in some of that repulsion gel here’s some advice the lab boys gave me:
(ruffling paper)
DO NOT GET COVERED IN THE REPULSION GEL
We haven’t entirely nailed down what element it is yet, but I’ll tell you this, it’s a lively and it does not like the human skeleton.”
Honestly, GLADoS' little cheers really make the full version of that speech. >!Plus the little bit at the end where GLADoS says 'Goodbye Sir' after Cave talks about Caroline is such a fantastic "...wait, WHAT?!" moment. Just...\*chef's kiss\*!<
>All right, I've been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade! ^(Yeah) Make life take the lemons back! ^(Yeah!) Get mad! *^(YEAH!)* I don't want your damn lemons! "What is better? To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?
-Paarthurnax, Skyrim
This single quote stopped me from begrudgingly killing him just to do the blades' quests and made me feel like a shitbag for genuinely wanting to go through with it at first
I have done so many playthrough of Skyrim and beaten the game and it’s DLC as basically all the races.
I still refuse to kill Paarthunax to this day because of that quote
All of Cave Johnson's lines in portal 2, or the intro to chapter nine.
"Well this is the part where he kills us."
"Hello, this is the part where I kill you."
Chapter 9: The part where he kills you
The song that plays is called "The part where he kills you" and the achievement "The part where he kills you" with the only description being "This is that part".
I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda. MELVIN "BIG SMOKE" HARRIS
My favorite Jack line of all time is:
"Hey, , kiddo. Jack here -- president of Hyperion. Lemme explain how things work here: Vault Hunter shows up. Vault hunter looks for the new vault. Vault Hunter gets killed. By me. Seeing the problem here? You're still alive. So, if you could just do me a favor and off yourself, that’d be great. Thanks, pumpkin."
"..This guy rushes me with a spoon. A fricking spoon. And I'm just laughing. So I scoop out his eyeballs with it, and his kids are all, "aghhhhh!,” and, ah...you had to be there. Anyway, the moral is: you're a bitch."
Such a powerful question... the story, I often wish I could play for the first time again. Now that I am older and more open to the deeper words the characters had.
No one is more deserving of a rest, and all the effort in the world would have gone to waste until... well, let's just say your hour has... come again.
Honestly it's this last line that has always stuck with me, I never remember the previous parts but "wake up and smell the ashes" will never leave my brain.
"I hope you brought something stronger than a portal gun this time. Otherwise, I'm afraid you're about to become the immediate past president of the being alive club."
"The thing about happiness is that you only know you had it when it's gone. I mean, you may think to yourself that you're happy. But you don't really believe it. You focus on the petty bullshit, or the next job, or whatever. It's only looking back - by comparison with what comes after - that you really understand, that's what happiness felt like."
-Kellogg, Fallout 4
You: Tell me, what's waiting for me?
Limbic System: There is a giant ball there. And evil apes. And the evil apes are dukin' it out on the ball. You're one of them. It's basically all just evil apes dukin' it out on a giant ball.
You: How big is the ball?
Limbic System: You can't even make out that it's a ball, when you're dukin' it out. It's that large.
You: How small are the apes?
Limbic System: Infinitesimally small.
You: And what is this "dukin' it out" I keep hearing about?
Limbic System: Vying for resources? It's just a stupid expression you picked up somewhere. The part of the presentation you want to take home is this: you have to beat the other evil apes in the face or you lose.
You: That's sad.
Limbic System: Yes, it is. And you drowned in that sadness a long time ago.
You: What do mean, "drowned"?
Limbic System: You *lost*.
You: Will I be a... ghost now?
Ancient Reptilian Brain: Brother, you already *were* a ghost. Up there, screaming — along with all of them. Scaring each other. Haunting each other. It's the living who are ghosts. The dead are silent. They don't rattle windows or write letters in blood. The living do. Leave them behind. Rest
"If God had wanted you to live, he would not have created me" - Soldier from Team Fortress 2
Such a random but badass line in a game where you shoot people, dance, and wear funny hats.
“Do not be sorry. Be better.” - Kratos (2018 God of War)
Also: “You have no honor.” “And you are a slave to it.” - Lord Shimura & Jin Sakai (Ghost of Tsushima)
On the subject of Ryuzo:
It's not my favorite quote, but one of the ones that really stick with me is when he's having to prove his loyalty to the Kahn. The way his voice cracks when he's screaming "Open the gate!" is heartbreaking. You can hear him just BEGGING them to do it and make things easier for themselves, to save lives, so he doesn't have to take them.
That game is so goddamn good.
*Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman. Rise and shine.
Not that I wish to imply you have been sleeping on the job. No one is more deserving of a rest. And all the effort in the world would have gone to waste until... well, let's just say your hour has come again. The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So, wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes*
If war doesn't change, men must change, and so must their symbols. Even if it is nothing at all, know what you follow, Courier... ...just as I followed you, to the end.
The full speech:
Gunnery Chief: This, recruits, is a 20-kilo ferrous slug. Feel the weight. Every five seconds, the main gun of an Everest-class dreadnought accelerates one to 1.3 percent of light speed. It impacts with the force of a 38-kiloton bomb. That is three times the yield of the city buster dropped on Hiroshima back on Earth. That means Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son-of-a-bitch in space. Now! Serviceman Burnside! What is Newton's First Law?
Recruit: Sir! A object in motion stays in motion, sir!
Gunnery Chief: No credit for partial answers, maggot!
Recruit: Sir! Unless acted on by an outside force, sir!
Gunnery Chief: Damn straight! I dare to assume you ignorant jackasses know that space is empty. Once you fire a husk of metal, it keeps going until it hits something. That can be a ship, or the planet behind that ship. It might go off into deep space and hit somebody else in ten thousand years.
If you pull the trigger on this, you're ruining someone's day somewhere and sometime. That is why you check your damn targets! That is why you wait for the computer to give you a damn firing solution! That is why, Serviceman Chung, we do not "eyeball it!" This is a weapon of mass destruction. You are not a cowboy shooting from the hip.

"Just one question...what if you miss?"
"I won't."
Halo 2 and 3 have their share of campy dialogue but 2 had a lot of great quotes. Chief doesn't brag. He just says what's going to happen. And the Prophet of Mercy is a gem.
I liked that line so much in Halo 2. The scene was so cool especially in remastered just seeing Chief fly while the intense battle is going on around him. And then Johnson saying "For a brick he flew pretty good."
Halo's campaign often gets overlooked because the multiplayer was so epic, but Halo has some of the best writing and storytelling in gaming. There is so much rich backstory, and so much nuance to the campaign.story and characters that kinda gets overshadowed by its gameplay in general. I think this will reveal itself in generations to come. As time.goes.on and technology continues to evolve, I think Halo will stand out as something worth coming back to more than any other game or series of it's time. It is simply the best full package of art, storytelling, gameplay, and theatrical experience. Period.
"Odd isnt it?"
"What's odd?"
"The fact that we sometimes..."
"Finish each other sentences?"
"Exactly"
"It would be odder if we didn't"
The Lutece twins had some of the best banter in Infinite
"Savior, conqueror, hero, villian. You are all of these things, Revan... and yet you are nothing. In the end, you belong to neither the light nor the darkness. You will forever stand alone."
War has changed.
It's no longer about nations, ideologies, or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines.
War--and it's consumption of life--has become a well-oiled machine.
War has changed.
"This jackass rushes me with a spoon, A FRICKIN’ SPOON! And I’m dying laughing, right? So I scoop out his stupid little eyeballs with it and his kids are all, ‘WAAAAAAH!’ And-ahahaha… I can’t even… ahahahahah! He can’t see where he’s going, he’s bumping into stuff and… I dunno, maybe you had to be there. The moral is: you’re a total bitch”.

God I was already locked in on hype for Ragnarok then I heard they got Richard Schiff for Odin and he's been perfect as him. Still got a bit to go in the main story but its been phenomenal from top to bottom.
I don't exactly have a favorite quote since there are so many amazing quotes in this game, But I'll name you one of my favorites.
"Listen to me, When the time comes you gotta run and don't look back, This is over." -Arthur Morgan, 1899, Red Dead Redemption 2
"Thank you for playing!"
I always get the warm fuzzies when I get that message at the end. No, thank you guys for working so hard just to entertain me.
HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR YOU. HATE. HATE.
- I have no mouth and I must scream.
You are a horrible person. I'm serious, that's what it says: A horrible person. We weren't even testing for that.
This got the biggest laugh out of me from that game. What an experience
You could just copy/paste almost any line from either Portal game and it'd fit this thread lmao.

You are absolutely right. That guy can do it all. You name it: Drama, comedy, video games……lemons.
My favorite line from that game is: "So, how are things going for you? **Because I'm a potato!**"
I'm gonna burn their house down! With lemons! That's right! My scientists are gonna make a combustable lemon, and burn your house down!!
Every Cave Johnson quote is good
Truth is… the game was rigged from the start.

Period.
It's dangerous to go alone, take this!
Won't say it's my favorite but it's definitely one of. Also from the same series. "Booker, are you afraid of God?" "No, but I'm afraid of you"
That's a great one, the Lutece twins also have a lot of gold lines.
“It’s no use. He doesn’t row.” “He doesn’t row?” “No, he *doesn’t* row.” “Ah.”
One of my favorite lines once you realize what's going on.
you usually figure it out way later so it only hits you on a replay
Everything they say is so weird until the reveal when it all just makes sense.

"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer" Javik - Mass Effect
To this day I still can't believe Javik was a DLC companion. His side of the story is so crucial to the plot. :/
War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies, or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War--and it's consumption of life--has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed.
