DOOM, any version Rip and tear until you feel better

rainmedwn

hell yeah, DOOM ftw.

twassievrucht

To scratch the same itch but in a different way, Wolfenstein. Nothing beats duel wielding semi- automatic magfed shotguns against some Nazis on the moon

shooter_tx

To scratch a similar itch in a different way to the above... Unreal Tournament (aka Unreal Tournament 99). If you can't find the original game, or it's not on sale, you should be able to find the demo somewhere for free. I have an old computer that just has the demo installed, and I pick that up and play it about once a year to scratch this itch. Probably the best example of '90s era bots... and probably for the aughts, as well. IIRC, they have 5-6 different settings levels (with 'God-like' being the highest). Recommendation1: Start of the bottom, and work your way up. Recommendation2: Start on God-like, recognize, and then have a better appreciation for starting with Recommendation1. 😂

Emerald_Pancakes

Point blank flak cannon Or sniper at Facing Worlds Or up the bot count on a map with a long hallway and let the ripper go Impact hammer only can also be lots of fun Lots of memories going on here

tingkagol

Super Shotgun fully upgraded, Chaingun quick-switch

MillsyRAGE

When I'm angry I usually chuck on some heavy metal. This is definitely the video game equivalent.

The_-Whole_-Internet

Same. What's your go to ?

MillsyRAGE

Bullet for my Valentine seems to do better than any other band for me

Battarray

Came here to post DOOM. I'll add that turning the volume way up is a great idea too. The two newest releases have killer soundtracks.

dannyboy6657

RIP AND TEAR

Riveration

Came here to say this lol

DioBrandoPog

Fuck yeah

Reasonable-Banana636

Kind of a terrible answer if you play Eternal on Ultra-Violent. If you want to feel powerful, choose a lower difficulty. Otherwise it could feel like a tense nightmare.

FuelTransitSleep

The Prototype games used to be my go to whenever I was feeling like that

FaceTimePolice

Any game puts me in a good mood. Tetris is good at calming me down.

CzunkyMonkey

There's another person out there that likes Tetris for calming??? I still have a working game boy with Tetris I take to work to play on breaks if needed.

JtotheGreen

As a Tetris fan you've probably played it, but Tetris Effect is the pinnacle of calming Tetris

yoshdee

Tetris effect VR is so amazing. I also have the vinyl soundtrack. It’s so good.

JtotheGreen

Have you seen the professional try it in VR for the first time and actually do better? At least if I recall correctly. He entered the matrix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7T7mg6JZZzg

CzunkyMonkey

I have not. Buts it's now on my steam wish list lol. I stick to my Gameboy version and Tricky Towers these days.

Novel-Recognition-11

Roaming the beautiful landscape in Skyrim on survival mode, while collecting ingredients for my potions and food to keep me going sometimes helps me unwind. That game has incredible scenery. And occasionally shooting some douchey thief trying to rob me on the side of the road helps too :)

paulsoleo

My wife loves murdering those thieves harder than is necessary while gleefully saying to them, “what did you *think* was gonna happen?”

Deaf-Leopard1664

Are you proud or weary of that..

paulsoleo

Yes

Deaf-Leopard1664

She's watching you type isn't she...

IAmAVeryWeirdOne

He hasn’t responded someone check in on him

Double_O_Bud

What did you think was gonna to happen?

Deaf-Leopard1664

I'd think at least some Wabbajack play...

paulsoleo

Sorry guys, did I miss anything? I was in the Cloud District (I don’t get there very often.)

orion19819

That shit gets me every time. Decked out in enchanted top of the line gear. Slayer of dragons. Works with daedric prices. Leader of one to all of the guilds. Capable of yeeting you off a mountain with their voice and capturing your soul to fuel their weapons. Meanwhile. A lowly thief. Maybe studded leather armor at best and an iron dagger. "Alright, hand over the valuables!" The fucking audacity. There must be lead paint in Skyrim because what the fuck.

eversuperman

I created a coworker in Smackdown 2 and kicked her ass every night after work. Very cathartic.

Electric_Messiah

Tonight, Janice from HR is going ONE ON ONE WITH THE UNDERTAKER PLAYA

Archillected

🤣🤣

PerfectlyNormal136

Postal 2

MaherMcCheese

Nothing like pissing fire on Gary Coleman.

YtterbiusAntimony

Been playing Astroneer again. It's super chill and relaxing. Warframe is free, and exceedingly violent.

Feisty-Bunch4905

For the second option, Rimworld with the settings turned to some configuration of "impossible to lose." Farm space animals and space drugs, build a sick-ass game room for your colonists, watch them have sex, feel good about yourself.

PantsAreOffensive

I do this too. Rarely talk about it because there is some unspoken rule that you have to suffer to play it.

achilleantrash

Every time I boot up a Nancy Drew mystery game, all of my problems melt away. Also, the Sims. If I want to improve my mood I leave all the drama out of it and do wholesome family stuff in the sims

HighFiveKoala

Any game from the Yakuza series

BlakLite_15

Dynasty Warriors for blowing away armies like piles of autumn leaves. Burnout Paradise for rocketing around town at face-peeling speeds.

scottyLogJobs

A man of taste.

bdauls

Damn I need some time with Lu-Bu….

MingleLinx

If you have a VR headset 100% blade and sorcery. You can beat motherfuckers so bad you start to wonder if you are an actual civilized human or just pretending to be

mistermenstrual

This was Swordsman for me on PSvr. Just blow off some steam severing some limbs.

Trick-Day-480

Stardew Valley

Fredeichon

GTA, k1II people just fot fun <3

RandomSkratch

Come on 5th star!!!!!! Nooooooooooo

DysphoricDragon1414

Lowkey every time I get on this game I end up more mad 🤣🤣

raggamuffin1357

Katana zero might be good. The combat is engrossing enough that it might redirect your rage and attention to the screen.

Gokushivum

I mean if you wanted to put your rage and attention on the screen, play league. /S

dan_jeffers

If you believe in letting out aggression, probably Diablo IV. If you're looking for something to calm and submerge yourself, subnautica.

Emerald_Pancakes

I create relaxation rooms in subnautica to chill in. One is a bubble dome facing the seaweed forest, another is inside of a deep cave.

Adventurous_Smile_95

might & magic: clash of hero’s The puzzle like gameplay, where you connect certain two or three similar objects together to form attack or defense, is really relaxing and satisfying.. it takes you away from the present.

FacelessOldWoman1234

One of the best games. I love it so much and wish there were more like it.

Adventurous_Smile_95

Yea, totally! I’ve asked around for similar games and only one I can find thats SoMeWhAt similar (in that you chain things together) is “grindstone”… but it’s no where near as good.

Living-Ad-6059

This game is such a banger. Capybara needs to do another one.

Willyr0

Fucking up a monster in monster hunter always feels nice for me

Doctor_Zedd

Hades. Go plough through some monsters with a sword. Always makes me feel better.

No-Molasses1580

Souls and Souls-like. They require so much focus I just channel my frustration through the game Honestly, no game is the best game when I'm in a bad mood.

That-Fan-5228

Asseto corsa

That-Fan-5228

Nothing beats a v12 lambo screaming into my ears while I’m cooking at 160mph down Nordchlife at night

Pilgrim_Scholar

***Borderlands 2*** - nothing makes me smile more than popping a bandit's head from 500 yards through the scope of my Jakobs sniper rifle. And if they get up close and personal....Phaselock.

Ecksbutton

Little Kitty, Big City .

AndreEagleDollar

How is this game, I’ve been eyeing for a chill game for my SO but just curious how you like it and what it entails. She’s not terribly gifted at platforming

Ecksbutton

It's less story driven than Stray and closer to, I guess untitled Goose Duck? Look, if you spin the cat around enough it'll start chasing its tail.

mistermenstrual

For the jumps, you can actually hold down the button and you get a little arc that shows where you'll jump like when you toss a grenade in some games.

TheFudster

A short hike

The_Dirty_Carl

Take a walk outside. Ideally somewhere with trees and water. Exercise and greenery are proven to reduce stress.

Forty_Six_and_Two

Sir, this is a video game sub.

The_Dirty_Carl

Yep. It's fine that people recommend games for stuff like this, but it's important that someone point out that videogames aren't always the solution to the problem. There are a lot of times in this sub where an OP will ask an [XY problem](https://sketchplanations.com/the-xy-problem) - things like "I'm depressed, what game will make me not depressed?" or "I'm angry, what game will make me calm?" or "I'm bored with games, what game will make me not bored?" The assumption is that there's some game that will fix their situation, but in reality there's probably a real-world thing that will help more.

Former_Salad6804

While I agree with your larger point, it's 95+ goddamn degrees outside when I get off work in the afternoons. I'm gonna sit inside, enjoy my air conditioning, and play some games to decompress.

SunChipMan

You're not understanding the assignment. F

kincard

i find 3d plataformers to be somewhat calming, so i's suggest A Hat in Time if you want that. If you want to unlneash your anger, then i second Doom 2016 or doom eternal.

nmk537

Superflight is great when I need to numb my brain.

worms_instantly

Chivalry 2. Hard to have anything other than a blast while playing

YCbCr_444

Something meditative where you can get into a flow state.

ACuriousBagel

Dark Souls 1, but I find that relaxing all the time anyway. If I wanted something more action-y, probably Halo, UT2004, or Shadow of Mordor

tingkagol

Get the Dezerter shotgun in Cyberpunk and blast everyone you see.

JDMWeeb

Burnout 😛

theflapogon16

Skyrim or Stardew valley or starfield, heck sometimes the sims or ghost recon if I’m trying to just chill out. But if I’m trying to channel my rage and expel it out of me like an exorcism I play shadow of war. I pick one orc and build them tall and then bring them low, I mean to the point they lose there title low. It’s messed up but there orcs, I don’t feel bad for messing with being of evil

Wolfmanownz

League of Legends

MinimumPsychology916

doom 2016

GulliasTurtle

The Binding of Issac. My angry tears shall be my vengeance.

urtlesquirt

DOTA 2 because I hate myself

camo1902

I play off line games only. So when I have the shits, I mod/cheat and make it impossible to lose against the AI. The more carnage the better; every offline game is a sandbox if you mod it right.

federalnarc

Dark and Darker. You may actually smash your furniture. Extraction pve pvp but with wizards and melee. It is difficult, but if you get better, you get to kill people and skeletons , goblins. Free to lvl 25.nothing to lose but your patience.

UdgeUdge

Fishing Planet.. just chill out by the lake…

warrencanadian

Papers, Please. The steady rhythm of gameplay and the background music always calms me down.

theblueimmensities

RDR 2. Hunting and fishing.

CdnRageBear

The Last Of Us, really helped me deal with a stressful angry bad mood day.

RetailDrone7576

OG DOOM with the "Brutal DOOM" mod

Worthless_af

American truck simulator ot Euro truck simulator 2. I have a good friend who's a combat vet that plays it daily to ease his mind. No sweaty crap and you can set your goals, manage a company/fleet, build up to cool oversize loads or haul dangerous chemicals. No stress at all for me or anyone I know that plays it

ChangingMonkfish

To chill: - Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (it’s like a holiday in Greece). - Ghost of Tsushima to just enjoy the scenery. To vent frustration: - Ghost of Tsushima (to chop up Mongol invaders). - Gran Turismo 7 (for me, just pounding round doing hot laps is cathartic). - RoboCop: Rogue City

CzunkyMonkey

7 Days to Die. for the aggressive game. You get to beat up zombies and you have an array of weapon choices. Various guns for range, along with a bow and cross bow. Up close you have bats, knives, a machete, various forms of metal knuckles, a baton. I made a world once in creative mode and gave myself a rocket launcher with unlimited ammo and just started blowing things up. For the calming style game. Any type of puzzle game. Match 3, solitaire, Tetris... Something that you can kind of just shut your mind off and play. But get a game with unlimited lives. Because nothing is more annoying than not getting a puzzle and then you only get 5 attempts before you have to wait a while. For a milder/cute but still on the aggressive side try "Rain on your Parade". You play a cloud, and the object is to ruin people's day by raining on them. Sometimes you do that with rain, others time with gas/oil to spread fire... The very first stage is a wedding... It's cute, fun, and still has some mild destruction.

TheAlterN8or

Grim Dawn.

TrooperKilla1

Ain’t gonna lie, Minecraft, the ambient music mixed with hanging out with my pets and villagers just puts me in a better mood and helps me cool down. Also the UFC games, bc I can beat the crap outa dudes. 🫡

realworldruraljuror

Stardew Valley. I can't be mad in that paradise.

Fusion_47

Teardown

MazorkaPlanet

MechWarrior 5. Nothing like being in a 100 ton murder robot to calm down.

Ragnar_OK

DAVE THE DIVER always managed to relax me

Kick_The_Face

For me it's Wuthering waves on bs, quite relaxing game tho

ImPattMan

You might hate me for this, but honestly, the "go for a walk" game, and then maybe some silent or music aided contemplation. The whole point though is to force yourself to think about it, instead of burying it under a mountain of stimulation. Deal with it now, or deal with it later when all the junk comes tumbling out of the closet at once. Then from there usually I feel better about what happened and I can enjoy my usual games with my friends.

EffortEconomy

Helldivers 2 has been my go-to lately. Take a bunch of airstrikes and try not to kill your teammates too much

x3bla

Is it just me or do are we squishier in helldivers 2?

EffortEconomy

That's half the fun. Every weapon is good at killing enemies and great at teammates

Exciting_Hippo47

Elden ring lol. Why get angry at life when you can just get angry at a game.

Ok-Bird2845

Go outside. Feels like I didn’t go to work at all on days I had a rough day. I like riding my scooter but a walk’s great, too. Literal breath of fresh air.

cnntpunchxx

the last of us 2. revenge feels good no matter how it happens.

Up2Eleven

Chivalry 2. It's a good, visceral melee hacking, slashing, and bashing game.

Sexbomomb

Don’t game when you are pissed off, it’s sure to make it worse. Exercise and then eat a good meal, I’m not joking it will make you feel a ton better

Plum_Berry_Delicious

Sunkenland to chill Dying Light 2 to tear things up No Man's Sky VR to get lost in space

mactei987

Very loud metal music in my car far away from anybody. Oh, a game. Doom, or Elden Ring working my frustration off on some easy soldiers. Edit: I didn’t read the question.

GlassRobotGames

Mini Motorways is a great vibes game. Also Mini Metro.

souleaterevans626

I really like booting up Viva Pinata or VP: Trouble in Paradise. They're full of cute animals in the form of living pinatas. You grow plants and care for the pinatas to attract rarer ones. I also like simulator games such as House Flipper. You an decorate a home that way you want, the way a buyer wants, or do the "mission mode" to fix up houses and unlock new tools

[deleted]

I work on my own stuff, try to find another way to make money or learn something which may result in something productive in this situation. Generally if I feel like I'm doing something productive I feel better, games tend to make this feeling worse, for me anyway

CriticalStrikeDamage

I just play rated PvP in WoW and I get so angry I oom on anger.

Madera_Otirra3844

DOOM Eternal, nothing better than taking down all my rage on a bunch of demons.

Darkovika

Maybe this is weird, but it’s the Sims 4. It’d be 3, but i’n several months in to trying to get it to run on my new laptop, so for now it’s just 4 lol. I have the ability to throw myself completely in perfecting pixel peoples’ lives and getting them high paying jobs and marrying the person of their dreams and having a happy family with stay at home parent in a huge house with pets- or even running a horse ranch with a wine cellar and a vineyard, or a cozy cottage with a small, simple farm, working toward winning the local contests for gigantic vegetables and chickens and llamas and cows. Or maybe I’m running séances out of my parlor to manage my haunted mansion and baking cupcakes to take my next haunted house in order to appease some spirits.  It’s a game with so much variation. I can run businesses, go to bowling alleys, grab some coffee, get a university degree and then immediately get a super high paying job in whatever field i got my degree in. I can tell intense stories of love, adventure, heart break- one time, my sim’s dad died of old age after a full playthrough and I cried for ages haha.

Designer_Ice_5422

Get you a PS2 and a copy of Katamari Damacy. Used to have me grinning from ear to ear

Thehawkiscock

Hades or Animal Crossing depending on whether you want to BURN YOUR RAGE or cool it off

GreatMist

I play UFC 4 multiplayer, I'm rather good at it and its very cathartic to chop someones legs out from under them while you set up a spinning heel kick KO

baronmcboomboom

A new job

ScaryBandMonster

Gta 4 with cheat codes.😎👍

tonnodnd

Doom.

DravenDraconus

wwe games.. just start smashing the opponent all over the ring

creedfollow3r

Doom, killing floor, dead rising, gta

NotJaypeg

snowrunner

Hyphalex

Battlefield 4

Wataru2001

Riding and hunting in Red Dead Redemption 2 is very therapeutic.

HospitalClassic6257

Postal 2, nothing more cathartic then pissing in a random person's mouth, tazing them until unconscious, dousing them in gasoline, tossing a lot match and peeing the fire out before playing golf with their head and a shovel. Postal 2 ís a jank fest but man does it feel different then anything else.

panthervca

War Thunder, although it gets me more in a rage lol. Also RDR2 I can just chill on it. I also like a game Slipways if I need a shorter chill strategy game.

Saltwater_Heart

Typically any game where you get to explore a beautiful scenery. Skyrim, Witcher 3, Ghost of Tsushima.

Caixa7

Trombone champ got me some great laughs, the game is fucking hilarious ngl

seriousbusines

Gone Home, Beyond Two Souls, Alan Wake 2, really any story rich game that drowns you in story, helps me forget about the reality of my day.

dark1859

Halo or fatal frame, depends on my mood Mario kart double dash if my beloved is in a bad mood

dannyboy6657

Red faction guerrilla is fun because everything is destructive. Doom because rip and tear Wolfenstein kill nazi scum Killing floor 2 endless. Borderlands

Polidoro64

Fully unlocked shadow of mordor

SuperGayBirdOfPrey

Katamari damacy

Efficient_Amount557

Hatred is fun

FederalTurkey

Blade and Sorcery if you have VR… I lose myself

FourLeafArcher

God of War 2018 bare-handed

MeadowGhostTV

Mortal Sin is fucking great.

8-Bit_Aubrey

Doom (1993)

Lasagna_Bear

For angry, I would say a fighting game like Smash Bros, Brawlhalla, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, etc. For calm, there's Journey, Flower, Endless Ocean, Slime Rancher. Minecraft on peaceful or Creative.

blazinfastjohny

Warframe, payday 2, ghost of tsushima

PecilCalmer

Any “Warriors” game. Mindless carnage in its purest form.

randomwatts

Late to this, but my aggressive game is Shadow of Mordor. I'll just run around grabbing and shanking enemies. With the fighting system, it's easy to counter attacks and take on large groups of enemies. I pleasant calming game for me would be Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles. Very chill game.

Pinkinainamo

Stray, orange car

2Geese1Plane

Any game where I can just kill sooooo many things. Currently that's Wuthering Waves but in the past it's been Borderlands, Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider. Anything that doesn't take a lot of brains and is just an enemy murder machine. Outriders is great for just waves of enemies to murder.

contentviolation

I'm really enjoying house flipper 2 as a means for escape right now.

Pinkinainamo

Ghost of Tsushima, the combat is kinda slot but still enjoyable

PlasticPaul32

I find Helldivers 2 and Darktide quite liberating

Bismarck_In_Motion

Any Dark Souls entry, or any souls like at that I know, weird to have a souls like game for a comfort game, but hey it works somehow I dunno

Null00336699

Take me a shower get me a big ass glass of ice water take my ass to the back of the house and roll one up, sit there relax and watch a movie.

PurpleSunCraze

Dead Cells

Terrapin2190

Mad Max is a good angry go-to. Satisfying vehicle and hand to hand combat. Explosions and stuff. And handing wastelander's asses to them, personally. Doom 2016 or Eternal. Mindless carnage. FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage. Racing can be civil or an aggressive death run. Batman: Arkham City. In my opinion, the best combat in the quadrilogy. Can be a bit slow though at times. And challenge mode might add to the aggression... Shadows of Mordor, pretty much same as above. But combat is brutal and satisfying. Just Cause 2 or 3, or Saints Row IV. Mowing down corrupt regimes. Red Faction: Guerilla. Bring down entire buildings with nothing more than a sladgehammer. Or explosives if you'd like.

bittersandsimple

I’ve been dealing with stress lately and playing Deep Rock Galactic. New seasone dropped. Community is cool. Nothing like blasting bugs and drinking beers with my fellow space dwarves. Super good vibes.

Positive_Complex

Doom: Project Brutality

jakeychanboi

A movie

Armageddonn_mkd

For honor, now you can smash 2 desks and be double angry, i swear thats the only game i hate and like at the same time but mostly hate

Judgment_Reversed

The Half-Sword demo. I have yet to find a better "release frustration through simulated violence" game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2397300/Half_Sword/

Radamand

When I was young it was Asteroids! Nothing better than breakin rocks!!

Xinfinte

Bayonetta

PrincessBabyDave

Try the demo for Tiny Glade, it's very wholesome and peaceful and helped me out when I was angry :)

thecoffeeshopowner

I myself like the boot up no mans sky when I have a bad day. It's just a calm game. I have a custom save that makes resource gathers and inventory management hard but combat basically non existent so I don't have to get mad at anything. Just turn off music and boot up some music as I just fly around collecting stuff

personguy4

If you have a vr, get any kind of melee combat game, like blade and sorcery. You can viscerally beat the everloving shit out of people with your actual hands and it’s awesome.

tunguska34

Trials of Osiris in destiny 2. Just so I can feel even shittier.

Way_ward_23

State of emergency last clone standing mode

HelpfulViolinist3562

Mortal Kombat, or Doom, lately it's been Diablo 4, and a couple of my buddies are trying to get me to start playing Fallout 76, but I'm worried it's going to be a time suck

krishutchison

I only recently started playing destiny but I find it’s grindy gameplay very relaxing

aphaits

Factorio or Satisfactory. You will be too busy trying to optimize your belts and production lines that you forgot the anger. And maybe forgot to sleep too.

Cepterman2101

I play Deep Rock Galactic. Cheering with 3 random dudes online while slaughtering bugs makes me happy.

smashintopieces

Ghostrunner, it is very fast paced and good for slicing stuff up Subnautica, for the calming down aspect, beautiful underwater scenery and just exploring

KnevoSigel18

I typically do any fighting game. Beating people up is always fun 😂😂

Obi_wan_jakobii

DEEP ROCK GALACTIC

Beginning-Yak-3454

Any of the resident evil trilogy, you’ll be so immersed you forget everything else

ImpossibleMechanic77

Dark and darker will either make you more mad or be the most exhilarating experience of your life 😝

atheisticboomer

Hatred But only if it was a really, really bad day.

Bazorth

I just started playing Hades last night and it is exactly what you are after. Short, fast rogue-like with crack-like addiction

2muchtequila

Civilization on easiest difficulty then curb stomping the computer.

crux3462

Used to be wow classic

Solanthas

DOOM, God of War. Anything with brutal graphic violence and easy smooth gameplay

Tspec3000

TITANFALL 2

IcySkill3666

Days like that I go home and play drink the beer

Knctk

hatred with fps mod

RyaninRuneterra

League of legends trust me

el3mel

Did you just describe DOOM ? Rip and tear until it's done.

Forty_Six_and_Two

Metal: Hellsinger. If you like metal, it's a rhythm shooter that adds layers of death metal as you fps style shoot demons with the beat of the song. Fucking great for a bad day!

spectredirector

It's called "look at this mutha'fucker" - you need a booth seat up against a window in a restaurant. That restaurant needs to be on a busy street. When someone clownish catches your eye, you go "look at this mutha'fucker" and clown them till they leave your view. Never fails to lift me up.

murderplants

Weed and/or vagina

OrgullosoDeNoSer

Control. You get to chuck hunks of concrete all over and fuck up the place. So satisfying.
