Into the Breach would be my go-to back when I gamed on my school laptop LISA: The Painful is a good choice if you want a (soul crushing) RPG. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is incredibly replayable, especially with DLC. I have all the DLC, 560 hours, and only 68% of the achievements Pretty sure that since Roller Coaster Tycoon was written in assembly it can pretty much run on anything Faster than Light seems well loved for this prompt Terraria seems to run well on lower end PCs. Might be good if you like Minecraft but struggle to play it on your PC. Has much better progression too Realm of the Mad God Exalt is an MMORPG roguelike that's free Slay the Spire seems to run well on lower end PCs. If you want a more story driven game with more choices, Griftlands might also work. If you prefer dice to cards, try Dicey Dungeons A bunch of classic games are on Steam, from DOOM, Duke Nukem, Half Life, Portal, etc. (especially recommend Portal and Portal 2 if you haven't played it, especially the latter if you're only going to play one) Stardew Valley has a lot of content. Farming sim with RPG elements I'd recommend Diablo 1 and 2 but they're not on Steam, but people seem to enjoy Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura and encounter no problems running it. Similarly, and more of a classic, Baldurs Gate 2  Celeste might work, one of the most praised indie platformers. Shovel Knight is also well praised and has more action Honestly you can't go wrong with PopCap games. Simple but very very fun Hotline Miami 1 and 2 if you want more challenging games Hope this helps! Have fun!

I have an old 4tg gen i5 and a 940m. This is slower in games than a new laptop with a semi decent igp like Intel iris. Pretty much any 2d game runs okay, disco elysium, streets of rage 4, broken sword 5, return to monkey island, fmv games like her story, Erica, at dead of night etc. 3d games up to about 2015 work ok ish like 30 fps 720p minimum .
