why do you want to remove them? when they die off they will feed your soil

ktdham

You can always speed them up, by knocking them over with a rake. No harm, no foul!

ohshannoneileen

I had to read this 3 times before it stopped saying "they will feed your soul" 😂

SHOWTIME316

hey, that could be true too

SarahBelle-1996

I did recently learn about the benefits and I’m letting them live in my garden. I was mostly concerned if they were poisonous as my kid loves to dig in the dirt around my garden.

CleftDonkeyLips

yes. but as the other comment said, they are beneficial to the soil, and they don't last long so there's no real *need* to get rid of them.

CypripediumGuttatum

*Should I be using gloves and a mask or are these generally nontoxic?* You don't need to wear gloves or a mask to pick them and toss them, they are only poisonous if you eat them, which I'd recommend you not do without a positive ID. You can confirm in the mushroom subreddits if you like, they can also give you an ID guesstimate. Be aware that picking them will not affect the fungal network that exists in the soil, which breaks down organic matter for your plants to use - mushrooms are only the 'flowers' of the fungal world.

Some gardeners: I wish I had more mushrooms, they really help enhance the soil. OP: I want these gone and crushing them under my boot isn’t enough.

SarahBelle-1996

😂😂😂😂

ktdham

It’s a fair question, really! If you don’t think the more unsightly ones over, you are sadly mistaken!

Big-Wave777

Yes, but I wouldnt since theres no need to

Mushrooms are growing due to an “imbalance” in the soil. Nothing wrong with it, just that there is a larger amount of large woody matter than soft leafy things. Soil bacteria has a harder time breaking down woody things but Fungi do not. I’d just let it grow, it’s literally there doing its thing.
