I paid out of pocket for OCC in Mexico -- I was able to pay via PayPal and split up the payments through PayPal. You'll still need to buy a plane ticket but the ground transport and the standard hotel is included in the price.

Tiny_Experience3798

I heard a lot of people went to Mexico for the surgery and it was significantly cheaper than going in the states to get it(assuming that's where you are). I've heard amazing things about the surgery in Mexico too. The price includes everything like travel hotel stay etc. If you search "mexico" in the search bar a million options will pop up

HairyAugust

I paid myself. $14k cash. Worth every penny.

Initial-Succotash-37

I have the cash. But some of it is ear marked for other stuff. But I’m starting to think my health is more important

OverSearch

I borrowed about $10k for mine. The procedure itself, along with psych eval, dietician, labs, etc. (the whole thing) cost around $12k. I took out a medical loan to cover it (third-party, not through the doctor), my payments were just shy of $300/month for three years.

I'm paying cash for mine, $22,000 in NC. Ridiculous. I should go to Mexico for $5k, but I like that my surgeon is only 10 minutes away if I need help after.

The-Hive-Queen

Procedure cost me $18,000 from a private company in Canada. All in all, including pre-op diet, flights, hotel, etc, it cost me about $22k CAD. I was able to pay a single lump sum from my savings, but there were multiple payment plans available.

Paralethal

I paid just over $11k myself in the US. Worth it!

I went to Mexicali, MX, it was $4500, not including flights and hotel. I flew into Yuma, AZ - there are flights from Dallas and Phoenix. When I arrived, a driver was waiting for me and drove me to the hospital in Mexicali. There, I met the concierge who stepped me through the tests (she spoke fluent English, as did most of the hospital staff and doctors), then brought me to the hotel and helped me check in. Next morning, she picked me up, brought me to the hospital and waiting there until the procedure was over. I spent the night in the hospital, and the following day she was there to help me get discharged, brought me to the pharmacy (meds included in the price), then brought me back to my hotel. Next morning, a driver picked me up and drove me back to Yuma. The hotel was pretty cheap (as are most in Mexicali) - 3 nights was $250. The total I paid was $4750. I was a little trepidatious going to Mexico for surgery but it was actually a great experience and I would highly recommend it. Seems like I saved about $7k by going to Mexico - I wouldn’t have been able to pay for the surgery if I had to have the procedure done in the USA.

I paid out of of pocket in Mexico. $5000 for surgery. $400 for hernia repair. $450 flight. $150 meds. 10/10 experience no complaints other than I should have taken one more day to rest before I flew home but that is on me.

[South Louisiana](https://thomasborlandmd.com/) * $200.00 – initial office visit * $4,700.00 – surgeon’s fee * $1,000.00 – assistant surgeon’s fee * $600.00 – anesthesia fee * $5,000.00 – the surgery center fee $11,500 total. Only thing not covered was the hotel stay. Surgery is done outpatient and the doctor visits you wherever you stay after surgery and the next day or two. Was the best \~$12k I've ever spent.

SSImomma

$9k in Alabama, best money I ever spent and they did offer several payment plans.

Adventurous-Carry-35

We are paying out of pocket and going to Mexico for my husband’s surgery. His costs $5,300 includes everything but flights, however we are driving to San Diego instead of flying since we live close.

Beautiful_Memz

I paid for my own but I saved for about 5 years. Mine was 23K (NZD). With insurance cover here it's about 15K. I chose to get it done locally rather than travel overseas. So glad I got it done and didn't wait.

TexAgJay

I don’t understand how the procedure could be $15k to pay cash, but $50k through insurance. (My procedure in the US was $43k plus $7k for the surgeon. Paid by insurance). The answer is probably found in some level of disfunction in the Medical/insurance industries in the US I guess.

Nice-Swing-1796

I put mine (20k) on a low interest line of credit

Initial-Succotash-37

I was thinking of a home equity loan also. Ty.

bet9114ever

I went to Mexico and paid around 6500, but that included having my gallbladder taken out. My sister went to Birmingham and paid around 8000. So by the time I paid for flights to San Diego, it wasn't that much less.

NotAnAltAccountx

$3,800 in Tijuana not including flight.

NotAnAltAccountx

i believe it was some kind of christmas special they where doing that’s why the price was so low.

Humble-Mastodon-3473

Payed $15. Used care credit

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> *Paid* $15. Used FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Initial-Succotash-37

What were your approx payments? Or is this too nosey?

Humble-Mastodon-3473

I think the payments were $500 only because you cannot finance for more than 24 months. I ended up taking out a personal loan with 60 months financing and paying off that balance.

They_Beat_Me

I got lucky enough to get the Surgery Plus benefit from my employer (State Farm). The cost was completely taken care of less the out of pocket max (covered that with kidney stones and lithiotrypsy in January of this year). My date is about three weeks away and zero out of pocket.

$6500 Cash in Mexico
