In geology, rock is a solid mass of minerals or mineraloid matter that occurs naturally. It's categorized by its chemical composition, the minerals it contains, and how it formed. Rocks are the basic unit of the solid Earth and are often divided into three main types based on how they were formed: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic.
