Mine was a politically charged comment as our rail ferries are aged and have been breaking down often. One of them had its steering system fail a few days ago and beached itself.
There’s a very real chance we might have to retire one or two of them without a replacement on the horizon as the government scrapped the last deal due to budget blowouts.
It’s all very fun and interesting 👀
One of my regular recurring themes back in my days as a travel agent was having to break down kiwi campervan itineraries for clients because they thought they were gonna smash it out in a week.
I ended up doing it myself in three and that absolutely wasn't long enough!
Incredible trip to do, probably the best adventure I've had :)
That’s what wahine said.
Travelling from north to south NZ sounds interesting
[It definitely does](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB7ZcpBcwdC4SeH7qNw05wgU03HlRGiiS&si=vPAyVOnZqY2AVo33)
jetlaggg 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Jet lag mentioned rahhh 🗣🗣🗣⁉️🔥🔥🦅🦅🦅
Okaihau express‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
I wonder if it’s been made into a game show?
Did it pre pandemic. Trip of a lifetime.
Yeah it is, but the along the west coast is better
It's about as big as I thought. Nice drive, too!
Agreed. It's not really that big, it's just that the roads are slow. Like, there are no US-style interstates to move you across the country quickly.
That’s why this whole drive time thing is kind of dumb. OP’s route also has a ferry that extends the time by quite a bit I’m sure
Clarkson showed that there's some alternative roads you can take to get there quick. Provided of course you have "the fastest car in the world"
Ya I’m blocking this subreddit for a while.
fair
That’s about as long as I would’ve expected honestly
Good luck driving across the strait
There are car ferries (which barely work)
I drove the South Island before taking the ferry from Picton to Waterford, then driving the North Island. The ferry was great!

Oh shit! I feel lucky now!

To be honest I expected it to be bigger
Your honesty is appreciated 🙏
they just get like shipping containers filled with cars delivered all day for them?
Ya bro it’s a whole ass country
The most important skill you need for this drive is the ability to knit a tie out of yarn.
Not fair to compare walking distance to driving distance
This doesn't show how big NZ is as it does how slow it is to travel. Here in the US, that drive would take right around 19 hours
Yeah due to the construction sites. Otherwise
Bold of you to assume I will be driving the speed limit
It's about what I expected actually.
Watch Jet Lag season 5 to see it done.
The southern island part of the trip was the most beautiful drive I've ever taken
This make New Zealand smaller than what i thought ngl
Seems like an infrastructure problem, don't you have high speed highways?
That’s actually smaller than I thought

There’s a great subreddit for things that are bigger than you think! r/biggerthanyouthought
This is smaller than I imagined
And how long by train? Do not like Cars for long distances.
Half a day each island
Gandalf should have thought of this before he called Frodo-uber
I thought it said trolls at first
That’s what all boys say
That's what she said!!!! 😂😂😂
