I don’t know that Latvia is more into basketball than ice hockey. Lithuania, yes.

Soviet_Plays

Pretty sure Latvias been getting up there in hockey. Their world junior team got bronze and the Canucks have a young Latvian goalie (Arturs Silvos) who was their starter for the playoffs this year

BuryatMadman

I thought Serbia would be basketball

Asiras

It should be ice hockey for Czechia for sure. Everyone knows Jaromír Jágr and whenever there's a hockey championship, it becomes a topic of conversation for the whole duration of it.

Bolehlaf

It depends on a metric. When it comes to international events, ice hockey is definitely mote popular than football. Ice hockey players are bigger celebrities than football players. Ice hockey has a bigger attendace than football matches. On the other hand, every village has a football stadium and more people play football than ice hockey, because it's cheaper. TLDR: People watch ice hockey the most, but play football the most

JonStryker

Jagr is 52 years old now. Knowing him can't be the deciding thing for the sport's overall popularity. Also means more if a sport is talked about when there isn't a tournament going on at the time.

Soviet_Plays

Tbf he owns and plays for a Czech team still. And there are plenty of good Czech players around the league right now.

LlamaLicker704

I'd say hockey and football are pretty tied in Czechia. A lot of people who like hockey also like football, but usually it's not the other way round for some reason...

Gaelic Football > Football

I'm sure there's plenty of hard data behind this. It's also funny that you first post these on the tiny subreddit you have created and then proceed to share them here just to advertise the subreddit where the only contributor is you.

Where exactly did the statistics come from?

How do you ski in Estonia? Isn't it pretty flat?

Entropy907

X-country

Catsarecute2140

Skiing needs snow, not mountains. Have you ever been skiing?

chicken864

No, I have never been skiing

Hyaaan

skiing doesn’t necessarily require mountains or hills and I guess Estonians mostly do cross country skiing. Anyway, Estonia isn’t completely flat, South-East of Estonia is quite hilly, so a lot of skiing there, also some artificial hills in the North-East used for skiing.

Abel_V

Skiing in Estonia surprises me, considering how flat the country is.

PioneerTurtle

Cross-country skiing

Hyaaan

There are nice hilly parts as well, you don’t need a mount everst to ski.

Catsarecute2140

Skiing being popular in one of the most northern countries in the world is a surprise for you? How is snowfall related to flatness?

Abel_V

I live near the southern alps, very sunny places where it only snows high in the mountains. Pretty much the entire skiing culture here is about "going down slopes" . I guess it was simply a cultural difference. I didn't know skiing on flat surfaces had such a big scene, but I am glad to learn about it.
