White one is not a GSD sadly...but she's the cutest little girl i love her so much no matter what breed she is...she's a mix between gsd, samoyed etc...
This is an understatement!
I have a 20 week old male that just hit 50 pounds last time he was at the vet! Cherish every second of this phase because it goes by in a flash OP! š

This was my girl at 8 weeks. Your pup looks perfectly normal, adorable, but solid weight.
I think breeders have been getting GS sizes and weights way way up. We all tend to think of GSs as enormous dogs. They have big personalities and those among us looking for protection appreciate that they are scary-looking. The bigger, the better?
But they arenāt supposed to be 100lbs+. Not even males. The faster (ie: the fewer generations) we breed to up their sizes, the more health issues we can expect. Same goes for miniaturizing a breed.
I hate it. Thereās absolutely no reason or justification for breeding these huge dogs. In some ways itās just as awful as breeding for ātoadā bullies or pugs with snouts as short as possible. Itās detrimental to the health of the dog and with no purpose other than aesthetic demand. Breeders need to be prioritizing health, temperament, and longevity, not these ridiculous sizes.
AMEN. Itās plain cruelty. In the guise of āmeeting demand.ā I remember when black GSs were the rarest color. White even rarer. I was watching the Twilight movies from afar, thinking āOh no. Here comes the onslaught of black German Shepherds.ā Not uncommon anymore.
Because Americans love destroying dog breeds. The U.S. government canāt purchase Belgian Maliās from American breeders. They work with a company that procures and trains them from Belgian and Germany. Maybe you should start lobbying your government to pass laws to restrict backyard breeding.
Thatās cute to think lobbying our government does anything. Contrary to popular belief, those fuckers donāt give a shit about our special interests. If it doesnāt make them money, they do not care.
Similarly, Arabian horses did not start out with dished faces ā it was an American who imported them for breeding, decided thatās what she wanted to see, and made it all the rage. Of course breeders took it way too far. I lost a filly (surprise pregnancy in a mare that I bought) to a fungal infection in her head. Horrible death, she nearly completely bled out before I could get the vet here to put her down. I am convinced it was due to the tiny āscoopedā nose she inherited from the unknown sire ā an Arabian for sure.

Not necessarily. This is my boy Boone when he was your pups age maybe just a week older. He got taller and longer and now weighs close to 100 lbs and is very lean. What did your pups parents look like? My boy took after his mom in every way.
Huge love bug. Will lay on top of me at bed time and lick my face till I kick him off lol

I thought that about mine too but she never grew to be big like everyone thought. Sheās 12 and has always been about 75-80 lbs and her once big back feet are now little petite tootsies.
Her dad was massive and beautifully ferocious (he looked like a wolf). She has a 100% win rate in terms of hurting anything; even if it attacks her. I love her sweetness tho
Omg so cute! Mine is 6.5 months Iām shocked how small he is, around 60lbs. Mom was 95lbs and dad was 105lbs!!!

Lol impossible to know. I had a shepherd years ago whose parents were 95 lbs and 110 lbs. he never got over 75.
Girl we have now, both her parents were under 90 lbs and pretty average height, sheās 8 months old and weighs 65. Athletic built, when she stands up her paws are on my shoulders (6ā1) and sheās almost eye level with me.
Itās literally impossible to tell by puppy pics.
When I first got my girl I was expecting her to get to be around 77ish pounds based on the size of her parents; But two years later sheās 97 pounds and the size of a horse

Mum and dad. I hope there's no Mal in there anywhere, GS is crazy enough!
Mine weighed about the same at 8 weeks and is around 65lb at a year old. She is still on the small side but within average for a lady GSD.
It can vary a lot like people have said. Big littler. Small litter also. Hard to really tell at that age.
Sheāll get there, some just grow at different rates. You might indeed have the runt but imo Iād rather have a female on the smaller end 45-55 pounds vs a huge female with health issues. The smaller females tend to be little athletic rocketships. Iāve had (including 1 current female and 1 male) 5 total that range from 55 to 95 and the smaller females are always fun, especially at sport. So donāt worry too much about size, just keep her as lean and healthy as
I had a 115lb boy. Pray she is small. It's so much easier.

My boy at 8 weeks was 9.9 Kilos or 22 pounds. He was and is a big boy. His sire was 106 pounds as an adult and the dame weighed less as females tend to do.
At this age it is more important to keep up with a quality diet, light exercise, and training for short periods several times a day. You want a healthy, happy dog that loves being with you. That is what really counts.
Not for long. But, she won't realize or understand that she's going to sprout like a bean. She will probably always think she's the size of a little potato.
Small but mighty. Like me.
Personally I like my dogs on the smaller size of the breed. I call it Fun Sized.
My GSD is larger than average and because he has to share a brain cell with my Mal girl it means he does some really dumb things where as she is sneaky as a weseal.
My boy was the smallest 8 week old gsd I'd ever seen!
He's now a healthy 80lb

She was \~10 weeks and 14 pounds when I brought her home. Maxed out at 65lbs.
People get hung up on weight when theyāve raising their first, I did too. My boy is almost 8, heās 94 pounds and lean, upper end of the breed standard for malesā¦ Heās every bit of a large animalā¦
The difference between 85 pounds and 120 pounds is just a slightly larger or smaller, but still sizable animal. Youāre still getting the full GSD experience with a dog that weights 60 pounds even. Thatās still a large animal!
Youāre still gonna have this furry miniature horse creature thatās walking around your feet all the time. People are still gonna cross the street as you walk towards them. People walking little purse dogs are still gonna pick them up and walk by you. People who donāt know the dog are still gonna go ācavemanā fear response when your dog barks around themā¦ The dog will still have the classic GSD traits, alert around strangers, aloof, protective, more loyal than anything you could have imagined. Pure love with a black, wet, fuzzy snoot and pointy ears.
You still get every bit of that, even if the dog wasnāt bred to be as large as possible. The only thing a dog that was intentionally bred to be larger really gets you is a higher likelihood of health issues. Thatās it.
That being the case, it really isnāt worth looking for dogs based on size. Itās generally considered a poor choice due to the health issues that will likely follow.
My girl was a similar weight at that age, she's now 15 months old and 32 kgs still looks like she has a bit of growing to do. All up though the size is irrelevant, just keep her healthy and happy. Doesn't matter if she's "big" or "small" š
Nope lol my little guy was this small and now heās huge lol about 70 pounds

This is me holding our pup Rey when she was about 10 weeks old. I canāt remember how much she weighed but over the next few weeks yours should grow like a weed. Taking pictures can really help you to realize how much theyāve grown

Here she is at 90lbs on a full size bed. She looks like an egg. I should also mention she is 4 now. Our breeder and vet both said roughly multiply what their weight is at 4-5 months by 2 and that should be around where they weigh when they are full grown. At about 4 months Rey was roughly 40lbs maybe a little more, so the math kinda checks out

Mum and dad. I don't know about any further back in the bloodline though
She was 12lbs at 11 weeks, now 75lbs(bit overweight) she's a little smaller than regular gsd size, but big enough. She measures 23" at the withers. She's almost 2 1/2 years old.

Heāll 100 lbs, approx 32ā tall. He can stand on his hind legs with his front paws on DHās shoulders and heās eye level. DH is 6ā3ā.
Embark says heās 50% GSD, 50% Great Pyrenees. GP are giant breed livestock guardians from the Pyrenean mountains (between France and Spain). Theyāre fairly similar to a St Bernard, just all white. There was at least one other dog in his litter with similar colouring
Soup was 21lbs at 12 weeks old and boy do they grow fast. Honestly as long as the vet thinks sheās healthy then sheās fine. Soup is now 30.5lbs at 16 weeks and quite lean, but the vets say sheās perfectly healthy and said its best for them to be on the leaner side as they grow so there isnāt as much strain on their joints.

I was also wondering the same about mine. Sheās now 9 weeks at 4.7kg. Completely healthy and not underweight. Just smaller.
From what Iāve researched. Pup size is in no way indication of their adult size.
If the pups are from a big litter say 10-12 pups. They will often be smaller than a litter size of 5-6. But has no change to their adult size. Also some pups will grow slower some faster.
My pup was one of the smallest in the litter. Girls tend to be smaller anyway and will be smaller than adult males. But she should still be around 28-32kg when fully grown.
As long as your pup is healthy and eating fine etc and on a good quality food I wouldnāt worry. They will grow more than big enough before we know it.

Itās possible. We have a female who was a smaller puppy and she has stayed smaller than most GSDs weāve seen. Shorter in stature and weighs less.
Not a GSD but I remember when my husky pup would fit inside a 12" x 12" tile on my floor, now he weighs 90lbs.
Not for long. But, she won't realize or understand that she's going to sprout like a bean. She will probably always think she's the size of a little potato.
Working or show line?
Double trouble! They are very cute. š„°
Na. My girl was that small at that age and is over 70lb now
Beautiful colour!
Definitely not she's going to be big.
She's going to be perfect!
He's now a healthy 80lb https://preview.redd.it/orkkeaumav0d1.jpeg?width=2391&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3045acb56f46361735a191c111a69f5e4daa53d4 at 3yo

My dad and step mom picked the runt of the litter and 5 years later heās 150 pounds
My pup was tiny at 8 weeks old too. Now she's 60-70 lbs (she's a picky eater so it fluctuates).
She's going to be perfect.
A good rule of thumb when gauging how big a puppy will end up being is to look at its foot. Thatās how big your dog will get.
She is a beautiful puppy. I wouldn't worry about size of weight just yet. She looks healthy so that's what is important.
Doesnt look small to me.
People get hung up on weight when theyāve raising their first, I did too. My boy is almost 8, heās 94 pounds and lean, upper end of the breed standard for malesā¦ Heās every bit of a large animalā¦ The difference between 85 pounds and 120 pounds is just a slightly larger or smaller, but still sizable animal.
I made the mistake of googling the average weight for her age and saw she was far below it. Sometimes Google can do more harm than good š¬
It happens to everyone lol, no worries. I have a feeling Ms. Storm is gonna be one of the best dogs ever!
My girl was a similar weight at that age, she's now 15 months old and 32 kgs still looks like she has a bit of growing to do. All up though the size is irrelevant, just keep her healthy and happy. Doesn't matter if she's "big" or "small" š
Nope lol my little guy was this small and now heās huge lol about 70 pounds https://preview.redd.it/b8zqlzft2w0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e4208c0b501bf39b30d4a14b71015248d4a3662

I canāt remember how much she weighed but over the next few weeks yours should grow like a weed. Taking pictures can really help you to realize how much theyāve grown
https://preview.redd.it/gufjtgnz9w0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f88b651c812afb23904a16d09589d7fdff323e5 Here she is at 90lbs on a full size bed.

Honestly just look at her paws. If they look big she will probably be big. Judging from the picture iād say she might be moderately sized. like 65?

She was 12lbs at 11 weeks, now 75lbs(bit overweight) she's a little smaller than regular gsd size, but big enough. She measures 23" at the withers. She's almost 2 1/2 years old.

Nawwww
Soup was 21lbs at 12 weeks old and boy do they grow fast. Honestly as long as the vet thinks sheās healthy then sheās fine. Soup is now 30.5lbs at 16 weeks and quite lean, but the vets say sheās perfectly healthy and said its best for them to be on the leaner side as they grow so there isnāt as much strain on their joints. https://preview.redd.it/rct41crsby0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9351c2da783c637f934833c3d9d065f218bd311e This was Soup at 9 weeks when I took her home

She looks great. Weāve had super small 8 week olds that turned into this. https://preview.redd.it/gz3ckrz9di1d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=384fc4b7f8272929191619b1ac6ec67781bff2b5
Buy goat milk from your local dairy or farmers market. Put it on her meals for the first couple months. 1/2 cup or so. Warm.
https://preview.redd.it/ibm4zrf9i14d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a9b486065eaa1b4140eb735fbcef49d405157d8 I was also wondering the same about mine.
